There are a few ways to speak to someone far away. You can call from your phone, which means paying long-distance costs, or you could send a letter. Even though it's fun to get mail in your mailbox at home, it sometimes can take a long time to get an answer back from your friend. Most people use email these days since it's quick, and pretty cheap.

With email, you write a message on your computer, click "send," and your words are halfway across the planet in a flash! Plus, a few minutes later, you get an answer from Vancouver or Beijing or wherever! Pretty cool!
