(Cheerful acoustic music plays)

Nonnie, Leia and Leeann prepare food at a table in a fenced yard. Nonnie has glasses and wears a blue sweater. Leia wears a black hoodie. Leeann wears a dark and light blue jacket. They all have long black hair they wear in braids. In the distance, birds chirp.

Nonnie says, AND NOW WE LAY THE
LEMON SLICES ON THE PLANK
AND PLACE THE SALMON ON TOP.

Leeann asks, NONNIE, WHY WOULD YOU PUT
THE SALMON ON A CEDAR PLANK?

Leia asks, WON'T IT START ON FIRE?

Nonnie says, TO ANSWER YOUR
QUESTION FIRST, LEEANN,
THE CEDAR INFUSES THE SALMON
WITH LUSH, SMOKY,
AROMATIC FLAVORS.
LEIA, WE CAN MIST
THE CEDAR WITH WATER
IF ANY FLAMES DO APPEAR.

Nonnie places a spray bottle on the table.

She says, REMEMBER THE CEDAR
BOX WITH THE ROCKS?
THIS IS ANOTHER WAY THE
HAIDAS USED TO COOK SALMON.
WE WERE THE FIRST
PEOPLE TO DISCOVER
THE DIFFERENT USES OF CEDAR.

Leia rolls her eyes and sighs.

She asks, CAN WE JUST EAT
ONCE WITHOUT A LESSON?

Nonnie grabs the spray bottle. She sprays both the girls with water. The girls grin.

Nonnie says, WHILE WE WAIT FOR LUNCH,
I WILL TELL YOU A
STORY ABOUT RAVEN
STEALING THE
SECRETS OF MAGIC CEDAR
AND BRINGING THEM BACK.

Nonnie sprays more water.

She narrates, RAVEN HAD
FLOWN THROUGH THE EVENING
FROM HIS BIG ISLAND
ENCOUNTER WITH NOOTKA,
THE GREAT GOLDEN
GRIZZLY BEAR FROM UCLUELET.

In a flashback, Raven carries a salmon.

He says, THANKS FOR LUNCH!
SORRY, I CAN'T STAY!

Nootka smacks the salmon away from Raven.

Raven says, GAH!!

Nootka says, IF I SEE YOU AGAIN,
YOU ARE DEAD, LITTLE BLACK BIRD!
AND IT'S NOOTKA!

Noonie narrates, IT WAS NOW SOARING
IN THE EARLY MORNING LIGHT
AS THE SUN PEEKED
OVER THE HORIZON.
IT WAS A WONDROUS,
MAGICAL SUNRISE.
RAVEN WAS STILL VERY HUNGRY,
AND HIS STOMACH GRUMBLED LOUDLY.

(Stomach grumbling)

Dolphins leap through the water under Raven.

Raven says, CAW! I'M SO HUNGRY.
GOOD THING I'M ALMOST
BACK HOME TO THE HAIDAS.

A dolphin pops up under Raven.

The dolphin says, HEY, RAVEN.
I AM MAKAH.
WHY DON'T YOU COME PLAY WITH US?

Raven flies amongst the dolphins playing in the water.

Nonnie narrates, RAVEN WAS
HAVING SO MUCH FUN,
HE LOST HIMSELF IN THE MOMENT
AND THE DAY QUICKLY DISAPPEARED.

The sun begins to set. Raven lands on a rock.

He says, LOOKS LIKE HOME BUT
SURE DOESN'T FEEL LIKE HOME.

Makah says, WELL, YOU'RE HERE NOW, RAVEN.
MIGHT AS WELL EXPLORE
AND HAVE AN ADVENTURE.
IT WAS NICE PLAYING WITH YOU.

Raven flies away as Makah and the dolphins leave. Raven squawks.

He says, I'M NEVER GOING TO
GET HOME AT THIS RATE.

Raven flies through a forest and groans.

He says, I MIGHT STARVE TO DEATH, TOO.
LET'S SEE WHAT'S HERE.

Raven squawks. He flies over two people carrying sticks.

One of them says, PEACE, BROTHER.
I'M DUSK AND THIS IS DESTINY.

Raven says, I AM RAVEN AND HAVE
TRAVELED MANY MILES
WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER.

Destiny retrieves a lily pad from a river. She rolls the lily pad and offers it to Raven.

Raven says, EGH.
WHAT THE HECK AM I
SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS?

Destiny chuckles.

She says, YOU EAT IT, DUDE.

Raven takes a bite of the lily pad. He chokes and splutters. Raven spits out the leaf. Dusk and Destiny laugh. Raven chuckles.

Destiny says, YEAH, THEY ARE KIND OF GNARLY
BUT DUSK AND I LOVE THEM.
ONLY VEGGIES FOR US.
ONE WITH THE EARTH, MAN.

Dusk says, IT'S ALL GOOD, BROTHER.
WHY DON'T YOU COME
BACK TO OUR PAD FOR A FARM
AND WE'LL SEE WHAT
WE CAN DIG UP FOR YOU.

Raven flies above his new friends as they walk down a path. Raven looks behind him as howling is heard in the distance. Dusk and Destiny glance at each other.

Nonnie narrates, IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS
NO WAY TO ENTER THE LODGE,
BUT AN OPENING
MAGICALLY APPEARED
AND CLOSED BEHIND THEM.

Dusk, Destiny and Raven enter a lodge that looks like a beaver’s dam. They rest by a fire in the lodge. Dusk hums to himself as he nudges the fire with a stick. Destiny pours a cup of water.

Dusk says, I BET YOU'RE STILL
STARVING, HEY, BROTHER?
PROBABLY MORE TO
YOUR LIKING THAN
LILY PADS AND WILLOW.

Dusk offers Raven a fish on a lily pad. Raven struggles to eat the fish. Only to discover it’s made of wood. Dusk and Destiny laugh.

Raven says, REAL FUNNY, YOU LITTLE –

Dusk says, JUST A SMALL JOKE, BROTHER.

Dusk nudges the fire. Destiny enters a magical wall in the lodge. She returns with a fish on a lily pad.

Raven says, HUH, I WONDER HOW SHE DID THAT.

Destiny tosses the fish in the fire.

Nonnie says, DESTINY SOON BROUGHT THE
COOKED SALMON OVER TO RAVEN.

Destiny delivers the fish to Raven.

She says, EAT YOUR FILL, DUDE.
WE ARE WISE ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND
THAT EVERYONE
HAS DIFFERENT NEEDS.

(Distant howling)

Dusk looks at Destiny.

Nonnie narrates, RAVEN'S
STOMACH GRUMBLED,
WAKING HIM UP.
HE WAS STILL HUNGRY.

Raven grumbles. He looks around the lodge at night.

He says, DUSK?
DESTINY?

Raven looks at the magical wall.

He says, HMM.
LET'S SEE HOW MANY
SALMON I CAN PULL OUT OF HERE.
HOW HARD COULD IT BE?

Raven flies toward the wall but bounces off.

He says, OOF.

Raven groans as stars spin around his head. He tries again but hits the wall.

He says, OOF!
AH!

Raven faces the wall.

He says, HMM.

Raven takes a closer look at the carvings on the which include two fish and beavers standing by a river.

Raven says, A-HA!

Nonnie narrates, HE
EXAMINED THE TWO BEAVERS
THAT WERE THE
FOCUS OF THE CARVING
AND SUDDENLY HAD AN IDEA.

A light bulb brightens above Raven’s head. He transforms into a beaver and runs into the wall.

Raven says, OOF.
UGH.

Raven slams into the wall.

He says, NOT MY DAY.

(Howling)

The lodge shakes.

Raven hears, COME OUT, LITTLE MAKERS.
I'M HUNGRY AND
THAT MEANS EAT NOW.

Raven says, NO ONE'S HOME RIGHT NOW.
CAN YOU COME BACK LATER?
MAYBE FOR... BREAKFAST?

(Snarling)

A coyote breaks through the lodge ceiling.

Raven says, UH OH.

The coyote says, THERE YOU ARE.
I'M IN THE MOOD
FOR A LITTLE BEAVER.

Raven says, WOAH! OOF!

Raven tries to run away. He trips.

He says, UGH.

Raven’s fall causes the fire to spread. He struggles to escape.

Raven says, WOAH, WOAH, WAH!

Raven falls through the magical wall.

He says, WOAH, WOAH!

Raven falls into water.

He says, OOF.

In the sky above Raven is magical wall making warping noises. A bird fishes in the water. Other animals move through a forest. Raven pants as he struggles to swim toward two beavers working on a dam.

Raven says, YOU HAVE TO HELP ME.
THERE'S A REALLY
HUNGRY COYOTE AFTER ME.

One of the beavers says, SO, YOU FIGURED
OUT HOW TO GET THROUGH
THE SCREEN, HEY, BROTHER?

The beavers are revealed to be Dusk and Destiny.

Destiny says, AND USE A LITTLE RAVEN
MAGIC TO BECOME ONE OF US.
PRETTY NIFTY, DUDE.

Destiny climbs off the dam after Dusty. Raven climbs up.

He says, PLEASE, DESTINY.
THE COYOTE IS ALMOST HERE.

Dusty nibbles a tree.

Destiny says, WE ARE STEWARDS
OF THE LAND, DUDE.
JUST LIKE COYOTE IS A
PREDATOR OF THE LAND.
WE EACH HAVE A ROLE TO
PLAY IN THE CIRCLE OF LIFE.

(Warping noises)

Raven says, WHAT THE HECK IS
THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
HE'S GOING TO EAT US.

The coyote tries to break through the magical wall.

Dusty says, WHAT WILL BE WILL BE, BROTHER.

Dusk, Destiny and Raven look up at the magical wall as the coyote squeezes out. The coyote yelps and lands in the water with a splash. The coyote growls and swims through the water. Raven gasps. He and the beavers climb down the beaver dam and into the water.

Raven says, THERE IS NO WAY I AM
LETTING COYOTE EAT ME OR,
OR ANYONE ELSE!

Raven admires the land around him

He says, HMM...
A-HA!
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.
I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN
IF I GRABBED A CORNER
OF IT AND ROLLED IT UP
AND TOOK IT BACK
HOME TO THE HAIDAS.

Raven transforms back to his raven form. He flies over the land until he reaches a point in the land that he pulls back with his beak only to reveal darkness. He struggles as he rips the land and rolls it together.

He says, THERE WE GO.
A-HA!

Coyote growls and jumps in front of Raven.

Coyote says, THERE YOU ARE, MY
FINE FEATHERED FRIEND.
I ENJOY BEAVER,
BUT I'LL EAT CROW TODAY.
TIME FOR LUNCH.

Raven says, SORRY I CAN'T STAY TO
JOIN YOU FOR LUNCH, COYOTE.
RAIN CHECK?

Coyote growls and leaps toward Raven. Raven escapes coyote with the roll of land. He flies into the magical wall in the sky. He returns to the lodge but knocks a jug of water into the fire. The fire goes out and the magical wall returns to wood.

Raven says, HMM, TIME TO GO HOME.

Nonnie narrates, WHEN RAVEN REACHED
THE HAIDA ISLANDS AT LAST,
HE WAS VERY TIRED,
DROPPED THE ROLL,
AND LEFT THE LAKES AND
STREAMS FALL WHERE THEY MAY.
THIS IS WHY
ALMOST ALL THE HAIDAS
ARE SPATTERED WITH LAKES,
PONDS AND STREAMS TODAY,
TEEMING WITH WILDLIFE
AND SPAWNING SALMON.

The wildlife from the roll continue their life among the lakes and streams. Raven lands on a tree branch beside a flowing river.

Dusk says, PEACE, BROTHER.

He and Destiny swim up to Raven in their beaver form.

Destiny says, RIGHTEOUS JOB
GETTING AWAY FROM THE COYOTE
AND SAVING THE LAND.
AND THANK YOU FOR SAVING US.

A tear drops from Destiny’s eye. Raven wipes his own eyes.

Destiny says, DUUUDE.
I DID WHAT I HAD TO.
IT REALLY WAS ABOUT
HAVING ALL THE SALMON
BEHIND THE SCREEN TO MYSELF.

Dusk and Destiny dive back into the river with a splash. Back in the fenced yard, Nonnie serves salmon to Leia and Leeann as birds chirp in the distance. The girls start to eat. Nonnie takes a seat at the table with the girls.

Leia asks, NONNIE, HOW COME WE DON'T
SEE ANY BEAVERS AROUND HERE?

Nonnie lowers her eyes.

She says, THANK YOU, GREAT CREATOR
FOR THIS MEAL.

The girls put down their forks and lowers their eyes. Nonnie glances at them. She shakes her head and picks up her fork.

She says, THERE WERE CLOSE TO
60 MILLION BEAVERS
IN NORTH AMERICA
BEFORE THE SETTLERS
CAME OVER FROM EUROPE.
THEY TREASURED
THE BEAVERS COATS,
BUT THEY DIDN'T LIKE
WHAT THE BEAVERS DAMS
WERE DOING TO THE
FARMLANDS AND VILLAGES.

Nonnie eats her salmon.

Leeann asks, SO, WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?

Nonnie says, SO, THEY HUNTED THEM.
A LOT OF THEM.
IT IS ESTIMATED THAT ONLY
2 MILLION BEAVERS ARE LEFT.

Leia says, THAT'S HORRIBLE!

She looks shocked.

She asks, HOW DID OUR PEOPLE
HANDLE THE BEAVERS?

Nonnie says, WE HAVE A SACRED
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE BEAVERS.
WE CONSIDER THEM LITTLE
PEOPLE OR LITTLE MAKERS.
THEY HAVE SMALL HANDS LIKE OURS
AND THEY LOVE TO BUILD THINGS.
THEY'RE SMART,
SOCIAL, GENTLE CREATURES.

Leeann shows Leia her chewed salmon.

Leia says, THAT'S GROSS.
NONNIE!

Nonnie clears her throat and grabs the spray bottle. She sprays Leia.

Nonnie says, BEAVERS HAVE AN
INNATE SENSE OF HUMOR
AND LIKE TO PLAY
PRACTICAL JOKES.
RAVEN WAS ON THE
RECEIVING END OF THESE JOKES
A COUPLE OF TIMES IN THE STORY.

Leia and Leeann swat their hands at each other. Nonnie grabs the spray bottle. She sprays both the girls.

Nonnie says, NOW, FINISH YOUR LUNCH.
ALTHOUGH BEAVERS
ARE VEGETARIANS,
YOU ARE OMNIVORES, LIKE RAVEN,
AND EAT A VARIETY OF FOODS.

Nonnie and the girls continue their lunch.

(Coyote howling)

In the distance, Coyote chases Raven. Raven winks.
