RUBBER STRETCHES?

Now Kevin Donker appears on screen. Kevin is a perimeter scientist.

Kevin says THAT'S A REALLY GREAT
QUESTION, EDEN.
RUBBER IS A LITTLE BIT OF
A FANCY KIND OF MATERIAL.

He stretches a rubber band.

He says RUBBER IS MADE OF THESE
REALLY LONG MOLECULES.

Kevin says AND WHEN THEY'RE
UNSTRETCHED,
THEY'RE KIND OF ALL
BOUND UP AND
CURLED UP ON
ONE ANOTHER.
WHEN WE STRETCH A
PIECE OF RUBBER,
ALL OF A SUDDEN THE
MOLECULES BECOME ALIGNED,
AND THEY STRETCH OUT
BETWEEN MY FINGERS.
NOW THE THING IS, NATURE
DOESN'T LIKE THINGS
THAT ARE ORDERLY.
IT WOULD RATHER
HAVE DISORDER.
