An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, he plays the triangle.

Eric says OH, HEY!
DID YOU KNOW THAT
TRIANGLES ARE SO STRONG
THAT YOU CAN SIT ON
A CHAIR MADE FROM
NOTHING MORE
THAN PAPER,
IF THE CHAIR'S DESIGN
USES LOTS OF TRIANGLES?
IT'S TRUE.
BEHOLD AS I TURN THIS
ORDINARY NEWSPAPER
INTO FURNITURE!
OH, BUT FIRST, I GOTTA
GET RID OF THIS TRIANGLE.
HERE WE GO.

(music plays)

He wraps the triangle with newspaper and blows. Next, he smashes the whole thing and the triangle is gone.

He throws the newspaper ball out and says AH, PERFECT.
GONE.

(music plays)

Next, Eric appears back in the workroom ready to start a new project. On the table, he has a large pile of newspaper sheets.

He says SO, WOULD YOU SIT IN A
CHAIR MADE WITH ONLY TAPE
AND A WHOLE
LOT OF PAPER?
IT CAN BE DONE.
HERE'S HOW.
NEWSPAPER PAGES ARE
THE BUILDING BLOCKS
OF THIS CHAIR.
ROLL THE PAGES TIGHTLY,
ABOUT 30 CENTIMETRES
IN LENGTH.
THEN, DO IT AGAIN
AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

(music plays)

He makes a series of rolls with the newspaper.

He continues
NEXT, ARRANGE FOUR
ROLLED NEWSPAPERS
INTO A SQUARE SHAPE:
ONE FOR THE TOP,
ONE FOR THE BOTTOM,
AND ONE FOR EACH SIDE.
TAPE THEM TOGETHER
WITH LOTS OF TAPE,
AND BE SURE TO LET
THE ENDS EXTEND PAST
THE CORNERS A BIT.
THIS SQUARE WILL FORM ONE
SIDE OF THE CHAIR BASE.
BUT WAIT, WHERE
ARE THE TRIANGLES?
BRACE YOURSELVES!
THE TRIANGLES
ARE INCOMING!

He forms a triangle using the rolls of newspaper. He secures the structure with tape and next adds a fifth roll connecting two of the opposite corners of the square. The structure is now divided into two triangles.

He says NOW, WE ADD A BRACE THAT
FORMS TWO TRIANGLES.
IT MAKES THE SQUARE
MORE STABLE.

(music plays)

Next, Eric makes some additional structures and secures them all together using tape.

He says NOW, MAKE THREE MORE
SQUARES JUST LIKE IT.
SO, FOUR
IN TOTAL.
TRIANGLE POWER!
NOW, TAPE ALL FOUR SQUARES
TOGETHER LIKE A CUBE.
ADDING A THIRD PAPER
ROLL IN EACH CORNER
MAKES IT EVEN
STRONGER.

(music plays)

He comes up with a cubical structure. He looks pleased.

Eric continues
THIS IS THE
BASE OF THE CHAIR.
NEXT, CROSS TWO ROLLED
NEWSPAPERS DIAGONALLY
ACROSS THE TOP
TO MAKE THE SEAT.
ADD A ROLLED UP PAPER
UNDER THE SEAT TOO,
RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE,
FOR EXTRA SUPPORT.
NEXT, MAKE TWO
LONGER ROLLS,
JUST LIKE THIS.
AND ATTACH THEM
TO MAKE THE BACK,
SO IT'S A CHAIR
AND NOT A STOOL.
FINALLY, ADD THE TOP,
THE CROSS BRACES,
AND PRESTO
CHAIR-O!

He continues to add new rolls to the structure until completed. He came up with a chair.

He says WELL, THERE
YOU HAVE IT!
FULL OF
TRIANGLES!
AND NOW, THE MOMENT YOU'VE
ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
HA HA!
(Drum roll plays)

He moves to a larger space and sits on the new chair.

He says OKAY.
AH!
OH, WHOA!
GOOD THING
I DO YOGA!
THIS IS COOL.

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The clip shows a series of building structures such as museums and bridges where the entire construction was based on the use of triangles.

He says A GEODESIC STRUCTURE IS AN
AWESOMELY STRONG STRUCTURE
MADE WITH TRIANGLES.
THIS SHAPE WON'T COLLAPSE,
EVEN IN HURRICANE WINDS.
THE POWER OF
TRIANGLES IN ACTION.
YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY MAKE
YOUR OWN PAPER CHAIR.
YOU COULD EVEN PAINT
IT AND REINFORCE IT
WITH PAPIER-MACHE GLUE
TO MAKE IT STRONGER.
REMEMBER, IT'S
NOT MAGIC.
IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
