An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric entering the workroom dressed as a pirate and holding a map.

Eric says DID YOU KNOW THAT
YOU CAN FIND OR HIDE
ALMOST ANYTHING ALMOST
ANYWHERE, IF YOU KNOW
HOW TO USE A GRID?

He shows the map with a grid on it.

He continues
SEE THOSE LINES?
THEY SHOW US WHERE
THERE MIGHT BE TREASURE!

A Parrot says AWWK!
DID SOMEBODY
SAY TREASURE?

Eric lowers his voice to speak like a pirate and says YAARR, THERE'S TREASURE
HUNTERS EVERYWHERE!
BUT ONLY THOSE WITH
GRID READING SKILLS
WILL BE ABLE TO
FIND THE TREASURE.
AH HA HA!
FOR REAL, I'LL SHOW
YOU HOW TO USE A GRID
TO FIND A HIDDEN TREASURE
WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.

He changes his voice again and raises his hand.

Next. he shouts
TO THE TREASURE!

Eric is ready to start a new project. Dressed as a pirate, he appears now in a park, in the sandpit.

He says ARRR!
HERE'S A COOL WAY TO MAKE A
MAP TO LOCATE A TREASURE
OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D
WANT SOMEONE TO LOCATE.
FOUND A DIGITAL MAP
AND MADE THIS ONE.
I PUT A GRID
ON TOP OF IT.
THIS IS THE
HORIZONTAL AXIS,
AND THIS IS THE
VERTICAL AXIS.

He unrolls the map and shows the grid.

He continues
NOTICE THAT I'VE LABELLED
THE HORIZONTAL ACCESS
WITH LETTERS FROM
THE ALPHABET:
A, B, C, D,
AND SO ON.
THE VERTICAL ONE
HOLDS NUMBERS.
SO, HERE'S WHERE
I'M AT RIGHT NOW.
A LITTLE RED HOUSE, WHICH
IS AT THE INTERSECTION
OF F, 4.

He uses his hands to check on the position. While doing so, the screen shows magic lines that follow the traces and meet in the precise position.

He continues
NOTICE HOW I'M READING
THE HORIZONTAL AXIS FIRST,
THE LETTERS, FOLLOWED
BY THE VERTICAL ONE,
THE NUMBERS.
THE TREASURE IS RIGHT
HERE, BY THE TIRE,
AT L, 7.

The grid has the drawing of a treasure. The magic lines follow Eric’s hands to the right position as the intersection from the vertical and horizontal axis.

He says SO, THAT MEANS WITH
MY SHARP SENSES AND
THIS AMAZING GRID, I HAVE TO
GO PAST THE TWO SWINGS,
AROUND THE BLUE WHALE,
AND THE TREASURE
SHOULD BE RIGHT HERE,
NEXT TO THE TIRE.
WE'LL CHECK IT OUT.

(music plays)

Fast clips show Eric moving around the sandpit trying to find the right position. Next, it looks like he found it. He uses a small blue shovel to dig in the sand.

He says OH!
HA!
AH HA!
HERE WE ARE AT L, 7,
JUST LIKE WE SAW
ON THE GRID.
I THINK WE SHOULD
START DIGGIN'!

(music plays)

He digs until he finds a jewelry box.

He gasps and says OH!
FOUND SOMETHING!
ARRRR!
OHH - TREASURE!

(music plays)

He opens the small box and finds a banana.

He says A BANANA!
I LOVE BANANAS!
DOESN'T GET MUCH
BETTER THAN THAT.
SO, REMEMBER, IF YOU
WANT TO HIDE MORE TREASURE,
OR IF SOMEBODY GIVES YOU
A MAP TO FIND A TREASURE,
A GRID IS THE PERFECT
WAY TO SHOW
THE RELATIVE DISTANCE
BETWEEN THE OBJECTS.
I LOVE BANANAS!

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. A series of dynamic images show a drawing of Eric in different locations moving around a grid map according to the locations indicated by the axis.

Eric says GRIDS AREN'T JUST
USED FOR TREASURE MAPS.
THEY'RE USED FOR MANY
OTHER MAPS, TOO,
SUCH AS DINO DIGS,
FINDING ANCIENT OBJECTS
IN EGYPTIAN
ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES,
AND THEY CAN BE USED BY
SCIENTISTS TO FIND OUT
HOW MANY POLAR BEARS ARE
IN A PARTICULAR SECTION
OF THE ARCTIC.

Now Eric is back in the workroom eating a banana.

He lowers his voice and says SO, THERE
YOU HAVE IT.
I'VE SHARED YET ANOTHER
AMAZING SECRET.
GRIDS: YOU CAN USE
THEM TO FIND TREASURE
OR ANYTHING ELSE
YOU'D LIKE.
AND REMEMBER,
IT'S NOT MAGIC.
IT'S MATH!

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

The end credits roll.
