(Music plays)

An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom next to a large table.

Eric says HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED
AT WORDS AND LETTERS
IN A MIRROR?

He puts a paper sheet with the logo of the show next to a mirror. The reflection makes the writing look backwards.

He says THEY CAN BE PRETTY
HARD TO READ BECAUSE
THE REFLECTION SHOWS
THEM IN REVERSE.
AND DID YOU KNOW THAT
IF YOU WRITE WORDS
IN REVERSE, YOU CAN
READ THEM IN A MIRROR?

(music plays)

He tries it now with a reverse printing whose reflection makes it perfectly normal.

Eric says PRETTY COOL, HUH?
NOT ONLY IS REVERSE
WRITING FUN TO LEARN,
BUT IT'S ALSO A GREAT WAY
TO SEND SECRET MESSAGES.
IT TAKES PRACTICE, BUT
GETTING STARTED IS
PRETTY EASY.
OH, BUT FIRST,
CHECK THIS OUT.

He tries a new trick with a small card with the logo of the show. He puts it in front of a small mirror. When sliding the mirror, a new magic card appears from behind with the letters in reverse.

(music plays)

Eric smiles and says NOW, THAT'S SOME MAGICAL
REVERSE WRITING.

(music plays)

Eric is now ready to start a new project.

He says REVERSE WRITING MEANS
WRITING IN THE OPPOSITE
DIRECTION COMPARED TO
HOW YOU USUALLY WRITE.
AND THE SHAPES OF LETTERS
FACE IN THE OPPOSITE
DIRECTION COMPARED TO
HOW THEY USUALLY LOOK.
IF A REGULAR B
LOOKS LIKE THIS,
THEN A REVERSE
B WOULD LOOK...
LIKE THIS.

He uses a paper sheet with the letters of the alphabet to exemplify. Below letter B he writes a reverse B.

He continues
TO START, TRY WRITING THE
ALPHABET ONE REVERSE LETTER
AT A TIME.

(music plays)

He completes the reverse writing for all the letters.

Next, he says HA!
IF YOU USUALLY WRITE
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT,
REVERSE WORDS START ON
THE RIGHT SIDE AND MOVE
TO THE LEFT.

Next, he tries writing some new text normally and in reverse.

He says IT MIGHT BE EASIER TO
DO YOUR REVERSE WRITING
BENEATH WORDS WRITTEN
THE REGULAR WAY,
SO YOU CAN COMPARE.
"I CAN WRITE
IN REVERSE."
WHEN YOU SEE REVERSE
WRITING IN A MIRROR,
THE WORDS MAGICALLY
MAKE SENSE.

(music plays)

He puts the paper sheet next to the mirror and it looks like normal writing in the reflection.

Eric exclaims
COOL.

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The video shows a blackboard with colourful letters and numbers written in normal and reverse senses. Next. the letters I and O and number 8 are highlighted. The reflection doesn’t change when put in front of a mirror.

Eric says THIS IS COOL.
AS YOU PRACTICE
REVERSE WRITING,
YOU MIGHT NOTICE THAT
SOME LETTERS AND NUMBERS
LIKE THE LETTERS I AND O
AND THE NUMBER 8
DON'T CHANGE WHEN YOU
SEE THEM IN THE MIRROR.
THAT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE
SYMMETRICAL - EXACTLY THE
SAME ON BOTH SIDES -
SO THEY LOOK THE SAME
WHEN THEY ARE
REFLECTED.

Eric appears back in the workroom.

He says WELL, THERE
YOU HAVE IT.
NOW YOU CAN SURPRISE
AND BAFFLE YOUR FRIENDS
BY WRITING IN REVERSE

IN BIRTHDAY CARDS
OR BY SENDING THEM
SECRET MESSAGES.
ALL YOU NEED IS
SOMETHING TO WRITE ON,
SOMETHING TO WRITE WITH,
AND YOUR TRUSTY MIRROR.
HA!
REVERSE WRITING:
IT'S NOT MAGIC.
IT'S MATH.

A song plays and the lyrics go
MATH, MATH,
MATH, MATH-MATH
MATH, MATH, MATH,
MATH, MATH-MATH
MATH, MATH...

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
