An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, he holds star made out of yellow paper. The blackboard behind him shows the drawing of the same star.

Eric says DID YOU KNOW THAT I
CAN MAKE A PERFECT
FIVE-POINT STAR
APPEAR USING ONLY
THIS AND THESE?
A BIT OF FOLDING,
JUST ONE LITTLE SNIP,
AND PRESTO!
PERFECT
FIVE-POINT STAR.
NO RULER, NO PENCIL,
NO PROTRACTOR NEEDED.
IT'S AS EASY AS,
WELL... FOLDING.
WATCH THIS.

(music plays)

He holds the star up. He snaps his fingers and, magically, when flipping it around, the big stars pours loads of ministars.

He says NICE!

(music plays)

Now Eric is ready to start.

He says SO, I HAVE ONE OF THESE
AND ONE OF THESE.
OH, AND NO RULER OR
PENCIL UP MY SLEEVE.

He shows colourful paper sheet and scissors.

He says NUMBER ONE, TAKE A PLAIN,
ORDINARY SHEET OF PAPER,
THOUGH IT WORKS WITH
OTHER SIZES, TOO.
YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT
A STAR BY FOLDING IT
IN HALF, LIKE THIS.
MAKE SURE THE FOLD
IS ON THE LEFT SIDE,
LIKE A BOOK.

He folds the first paper as if it was a greeting card.

Next, he says NUMBER TWO, FOLD THE
UPPER LEFT CORNER DOWN
TO THE CENTRE
BOTTOM EDGE.

(music plays)

He folds again and continues
THREE: FOLD UP THE
LOWER LEFT CORNER ALONG
THE NEW DIAGONAL
EDGE YOU JUST MADE,
LIKE THIS.
NUMBER FOUR,
FLIP IT OVER.
FIVE: FOLD IT IN HALF
SO IT LOOKS LIKE
AN ICE CREAM CONE.
NOW, THE MAGIC
HAPPENS.

The final folded paper has a cone-shape.

He says HOLD IT LIKE THIS AND CUT
ACROSS ON AN ANGLE HERE.
THE ANGLE OF THE CUT
AFFECTS HOW POINTY
THE STAR IS.
CUTTING AT THIS ANGLE
WILL MAKE IT POINTIER.

(music plays)

He cuts the lower portion of the folded paper and spreads it out.

He says NICE!
FIVE-POINT STAR.
HMM.
FOLDING PAPER HELPS US
UNDERSTAND MATH CONCEPTS
LIKE ANGLES
AND SYMMETRY.
IT'S SIMPLY PERFECT, AND
SIMPLE TO MAKE, TOO.
IN FACT, I WANT TO
MAKE SOME MORE.

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The video shows the picture of a man in a suit. Next. a group of men and women meet in a room holding a flag. Next, a picture shows a flag sticked to a fence.

Eric says MAGICIAN HARRY HOUDINI
WROTE ABOUT A LEGEND
EXPLAINING WHY THE
FIRST AMERICAN FLAG HAD
FIVE-SIDED STARS INSTEAD
OF SIX-SIDED STARS.
LEGEND HAS IT THAT A FLAG
MAKER NAMED BETSY ROSS
CONVINCED GENERAL GEORGE
WASHINGTON THAT FIVE-SIDED
STARS WERE A BETTER
CHOICE AND EASY TO MAKE.
ACCORDING TO THE STORY,
BETSY ROSS CONVINCED HIM
BY SHOWING HIM A PAPER
FOLDING TECHNIQUE,
LIKE THE ONE
WE JUST USED.

Eric appears back in the workroom. The large table is now full of paper stars.

He says NOW YOU CAN MAKE A
PERFECT FIVE-POINT STAR
IN RECORD TIME.
ALL IT TAKES IS A FEW
FOLDS AND A SNIP OF
YOUR TRUSTY
SCISSORS.
REMEMBER, IT'S
NOT MAGIC.
IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

The end credits roll.
