As music plays, we fly past Earth and the rest of the planets in the Solar System. A title reads "TVOKids presents... Space Kids. Is the Milky Way made of milk? Created by Eric Hogan and Tara Hungerford."

A song says
I LIVE ON EARTH
I LOOK TO THE SKY
SO MUCH WONDER
FILLS MY MIND
WE ARE SPACE KIDS
SPACE KIDS.

A child's voice says IS THE MILKY WAY
MADE OF MILK?

A time-lapse clip shows the night sky moving. Fast clips show stars and galaxies.

A boy says IF YOU'RE OUTSIDE AT NIGHT,
AND YOU'RE FAR AWAY FROM THE
LIGHTS OF BUILDINGS AND CITIES,
LOOK UP AT THE SKY.
YOU MAY JUST SEE A FAINT
BAND OF LIGHT
THAT LOOKS KIND OF LIKE MILK
SPILLED ACROSS THE SKY.

A girl says IT'S NOT ACTUALLY MILK,
IT'S A GALAXY.

The boy says A GALAXY IS MADE UP
OF BILLIONS OF STARS,
GAS AND DUST ALL HELD
TOGETHER BY GRAVITY.
OUR PLANET EARTH IS IN A GALAXY
CALLED THE MILKY WAY.
WHEN YOU LOOK UP
AT THE NIGHT SKY,
YOU'RE SEEING ALL THE OTHER
STARS IN THE MILKY WAY.

The girl says WOW!

The boy says THE MILKY WAY IS NOT
THE ONLY GALAXY.
TO GET AN IDEA OF HOW MANY
GALAXIES THERE ARE
IN THE UNIVERSE, SCIENTISTS
USED A TELESCOPE
ORBITING THE EARTH CALLED
THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE.

A picture shows the telescope orbiting the Earth. It is cylindrical in shape, with large solar panels on each side.

The boy says THEY COLLECTED LIGHT TO CREATE
A PICTURE OF A TINY PATCH
OF NIGHT SKY.

The girl says THE RESULTING IMAGE SHOWS
10,000 GALAXIES.

The boy says DATA FROM THIS IMAGE SUGGESTS
THERE COULD BE AS MANY
AS TWO TRILLION GALAXIES
IN THE UNIVERSE.

As pictures of different galaxies flash by, the girl says THAT'S A LOT OF GALAXIES.
GALAXIES COME IN LOTS OF
DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES.
THE MILKY WAY IS SPIRAL SHAPED,
LIKE A PINWHEEL.

The boy says THERE ARE ALSO GALAXIES
CALLED IRREGULARS.
SCIENTISTS BELIEVE THAT
THEIR CHAOTIC SHAPES
WERE CAUSED BY COLLISIONS
WITH OTHER GALAXIES.
4.5 BILLION YEARS FROM NOW
THE MILKY WAY WILL COLLIDE
WITH ITS NEIGHBOUR,
THE ANDROMEDA GALAXY.
THIS WILL CREATE A BIG
NEW IRREGULAR GALAXY.

A computer animation shows two galaxies merging into one.

The girl says WHAT WOULD WE CALL
THIS NEW GALAXY?

The boy says HOW ABOUT MILKDROMEDA?

End credits roll as a song says
I'M ON MY WAY,
ON MY WAY
TO OUTER SPACE.
WE ARE SPACE KIDS.
