(Soft music plays)

A young boy stands in a winter landscape.

A narrator says, SAY HELLO TO AKOBI.
HE'S LEARNING ABOUT TRADITIONAL
TRAPPING FROM HIS UNCLE.
KNOWS HOW TO MAKE DELICIOUS
SMOKED MOOSE MEAT.
AND PLAYS A SOLID DEFENCE.

Akobi plays hockey.

The narrator cheers, LET'S GO!

The sun rises over an animated landscape of hills and mountains. Pictures of different kids and raven’s hang on laundry lines. A raven on one of the lines caws and flies off toward the mountains. The raven spreads it’s wings across the sun and reveals the title, “Raven’s Quest.” The raven winks and caws.

Akobi stands in a winter landscape.

He says, KEW, HELLO.

He waves.

Akobi says, MY NAME IS AKOBI AND I'M 9 YEARS
OLD AND I'M FROM KITIGAN ZIBI.

A map of Canada shows the Canadian provinces. Kitigan Zibi is marked on the map in Quebec. Akobi walks through a snowy forest with three others.

He says, RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN THE FOREST
AND I'M GOING TO CHECK OTTER AND
BEAVER TRAPS WITH MY DAD, MY
UNCLE AND MY COUSIN KATSTE.

Akobi runs to catch up with his family members. On an “Akobi Cam” a man wears a plaid coat.

Akobi says, THAT'S MY DAD.

Akobi’s dad says, HI.

A man wears a brown coat.

Akobi says, THIS IS MY UNCLE PAUL.

Paul says, WHAT'S UP?

Akobi says, THIS IS THE LITTLE POND CREEK.
THIS IS GONNA BE SO COOL.
I'M GOING DOWN THE BEAVER SLIDE.

Akobi slides down a snowy hill.

He says, WHOA!

Snow covers parts of a trap.

Akobi says, THESE ARE OTTER TRAPS AND THEY
COME FROM THAT PART OF THE CREEK.

Akobi gestures behind him.

He says, AND THEN THEY SWIM HERE AND THEY
GO UNDER THERE.
THEN THEY'LL CLIMB UP HERE AND
THEY'LL GET TRAPPED THERE.

Akobi points to the trap.

He says, YOU COULD ALSO CATCH OTHER
THINGS OTHER THAN OTTERS LIKE
BEAVERS OR MINKS
OR MUSKRATS AND STUFF.

Water runs through the trap.

Paul says, IF THE WATER STOPS RUNNING
IT'LL FREEZE RIGHT UP.
AS LONG AS THAT KEEPS COMING
LIKE THAT THE OTTERS CAN SWIM
FROM ALL OVER.
SHOULD WE GO CHECK
THE OTHER SPOTS?

Akobi says, LET’S GO.

Paul says, OKAY.

Akobi says, MY UNCLE PAUL IS A TRAPPER.
I LIKE THAT HE'S TEACHING
ME HOW TO TRAP.
THAT'S A NEW SKILL FOR ME TO
LEARN AND PASS DOWN.
THERE'S A BEAVER DAM RIGHT THERE.

Akobi points behind him.

He says, AND THERE'S A TRAP ON IT AND
WE'RE GONNA GO CHECK THAT.
SEE IF IT'S SET.

Akobi kneels beside his uncle.

Akobi says, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT
YOU'RE ALWAYS WITH A GROWNUP
WHEN YOU'RE IN THE
WOODS OR NEAR WATER.

Paul separates some ice with an ax.

He says, TRY TO POKE THE STICK RIGHT
DOWN AND SEE IF YOU FEEL A
BEAVER IN
THERE.

He pushes a stick into a hole in the ice.

Akobi says, I CAN'T BELIEVE WE
GOT A BEAVER.
THIS IS REALLY AWESOME.

The raven appears and gives a thumbs up.

Akobi says, WITH THE FUR, HE DRIES IT AND
THEN MAKES A PELT.

Akobi’s dad says, HERE IT COMES, HERE IT COMES PUT
THIS RIGHT ON YOUR FOREHEAD.

He helps Akobi carry a bag with a strap on Akobi’s head. Akobi and his cousin stand in front of a hockey net.

Akobi says, THIS IS MY COUSIN KATSTE AND
HE'S ALSO MY BEST FRIEND.

Akobi puts his arm around his cousin and laughs. Katste gives two thumbs up.

Katste says, HI.
I'VE KNOWN AKOBI FOR
HALF MY LIFE.

Akobi says, MORE LIKE THREE QUARTERS AND
HALF OF A QUARTER OF YOUR LIFE.

Katste says, YEAH.

The cousins play hockey.

Akobi says, I LIKE TO HANG OUT WITH KATSTE
BECAUSE HE'S MY FRIEND AND WE
HAVE A LOT OF FUN TOGETHER.
WE PLAY HOCKEY.
WE RUN AROUND OUTSIDE.
WE HAVE SNOWBALL FIGHTS IN THE
WINTER.

On the “Akobi Cam”, Aboki scores on Katste. Akobi laughs. The cousins run to a covering beside a house.

Akobi says, I'M MAKING SMOKED
MOOSE MEAT RIGHT NOW.

He smokes meat over a fire.

Akobi says, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE, WEAR GLOVES
LIKE THIS AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE
ADULT SUPERVISION.

Akobi wears black gloves. His dad holds a bowl of meat.

Akobi says, THIS IS THE MOOSE MEAT AND.....

Katste says, THIS IS RAW.

Akobi gestures to the bowl of meat.

He says, YEAH.
THAT'S RAW.
THIS IS HALFWAY.

He gestures to the meat cooking over the fire.

Akobi says, WHEN THE MEAT STARTS SWEATING,
TURN IT OVER LIKE THAT.

He turns over the pieces of meat with a pair of tongs.

Akobi says, THIS ONE IS COOKED SO I'M GONNA
PUT THE COOKED ONE INSIDE THIS
BLACK POT.

A black pot holds pieces of smoked meat.

Akobi says, THIS IS ALL FINISHED.

He places a lid over the pot. He takes a bite of a piece of meat.

Akobi says, THIS ONE'S PRETTY GOOD.

He takes another bite. Text reads, yummm. Inside on a kitchen counter is a wooden beaver. Akobi pops up from beneath the counter.

He says, HELLO.
WELCOME TO MY HOME.

Akobi holds a piece of paper that reads, Amik (Beaver).

He says, I'M GONNA TEACH YOU HOW TO SAY
BEAVER IN MY LANGUAGE.

He holds up the paper.

Akobi says, AMIK.
AMIK.
BEAVER.

Akobi looks focused. He bites his tongue.

He says, RIGHT NOW, I'M MAKING GIFTS FOR
A SPECIAL OCCASION.
I'M MAKING TOBACCO TIES.

Text reads, Tobacco is a sacred medicine for the Anishinaabe.

Akobi says, I'M GETTING READY FOR MY COMING
OF AGE CEREMONY IN A FEW YEARS.

He prepares tobacco ties.

Akobi says, ALONG THAT TIME YOU NEED TO PICK
UP AND CREATE LITTLE GIFTS FOR
THE END OF THAT CEREMONY.
WE DO A FASTING CEREMONY TO
TRANSITION FROM BEING A TEENAGER
TO BEING A MAN.
WHEN YOU'RE DOING YOUR FAST YOU
CAN'T BRING ANY FOOD OR WATER.

Akobi wraps tobacco in a black cloth.

He says, YOU HAVE TO STAY ON AN ISLAND
FOR THREE DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS.
THE GIFTS ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO
HELP ME DURING THE FAST.

Akobi ties the wrapped tobacco with a white ribbon. Text reads, Tobacco is often given as a gift.

Akobi says, I FEEL EXCITED FOR THE CEREMONY.
ALL RIGHT.
THIS IS A TOBACCO TIE.

He holds up his tobacco tie. Akobi carries a kitten.

He says, SO THIS IS MY KITTEN LARRY AND
THIS IS MY BROTHER WISHÉ.

Wishé has short black hair. He smiles and waves.

Akobi says, THIS IS MY SISTER SAGIYA.

Sagiya has long brown hair. She smiles and waves.

Akobi says, THIS IS MY STEP-MOM ANNA.

Anna has long dark brown hair. She smiles and waves.

Akobi says, THIS IS MY DAD MIKE.

Mike has short hair and a goatee. He smiles and waves.

Akobi says, AND THAT'S MY FAMILY.

He and his family laugh. The raven appears and laughs.

Akobi says, HEY, COME ON,
THIS IS MY ROOM.
I'LL SHOW YOU SOME STUFF.

He steps inside his room. He grabs a jersey off his bed.

Akobi says, THIS IS THE JERSEY THAT I USE.
THE NAME OF THE TEAM IS THE
MANIWAKI MUSTANGS AND I'M THE
RIGHT DEFENSEMAN AND I REALLY
LOVE TO PLAY HOCKEY.

Akobi points to a hockey stick and wooden swords on his wall.

He says, THESE ARE SWORDS CARVED BY MY
UNCLE A LONG TIME AGO BEFORE I
WAS EVEN BORN.
THIS HOCKEY STICK I FOUND IN MY
BASEMENT.
THE HOCKEY STICK LOOKS PRETTY
OLD.

A medal hands from one of the swords.

Akobi says, THIS MEDAL I EARNED FOR DOING
THE ANCESTORS CHALLENGE WHICH IS
AN OBSTACLE COURSE AND THEY GO
TO MULTIPLE INDIGENOUS
COMMUNITIES.
THESE ARE MY BOOKS AND I REALLY
LOVE TO READ.

Akobi says, MY COACH IS FUN BUT HE'S SERIOUS
AND HE PUSHES MY WHOLE TEAM
HARD.

A person yells, GET ON IT AKOBI! GO, GO, GO!

Akobi says, I PLAY DEFENCE AND I LIKE IT
BECAUSE A DEFENCE CAN GO IN AND
SHOOT ON THE NET BUT WHEN YOU'RE
ON YOUR ZONE YOU COULD LIKE
BLOCK SHOTS WITH THE GOALIE SO
THAT IT HAS A LESS CHANCE OF
GOING IN.

The raven appear and flexes their muscles.

Akobi says, I LIKE TO BE A PART OF THE TEAM.
MY TEAMMATES ARE PRETTY FUN.
