(Upbeat theme music)

Children in split screens wearing colorful aprons use pots, pans, bowls, spoons, and other kitchen items as musical instruments. Food is prepared in some of the screens.
Photographs of prepared food dishes appear.

A title in colourful text between an animated fork and knife reads, “My World Kitchen”

A narrator says, WHOSE KITCHEN ARE
WE GOING TO TODAY?

A boy with short black hair wearing a grey sweater with horizontal white stripes opens a white front door with large grey panels.

The boy says, HELLO, WELCOME TO MY HOUSE.
MY NAME'S RYAN, COME IN.

A narrator says, HI, RYAN.

Ryan approaches a woman with long black hair standing in a hallway with light yellow walls. The woman wears an open blue shirt over a red shirt.

Ryan says, THIS IS MY MUM.

Ryan’s mum says, HI.

The narrator says, HI, MUM!

Ryan enters his kitchen. He stands in front of a table covered with a lime green tablecloth with white polka dots. A grey plate with green onions, and a glass jar sit on the table.

Ryan says, TODAY WE ARE MAKING PORK
PRAWN CHA!

The narrator says, RYAN'S MUM HAS SHOWN HIM A
VERY SPECIAL WAY TO MAKE PORK
AND PRAWN CHA, WHICH TASTES
AMAZING.

Ryan places a pepper mill on the table.

The narrator continues,
RYAN'S MUM IS VIETNAMESE, AND
COMES FROM VIETNAM.

A colourful map of the world is shown. A green arrow points at Vietnam.

The narrator continues, VIETNAM IS A COUNTRY IN
SOUTHEAST ASIA.
IT HAS WONDERFUL SUNNY BEACHES…

Waves lap gently onto a white sand beach.

The narrator continues, AND SOME OF THE WORLD'S MOST
BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS AND
WATERFALLS.

A mountainside and valley are covered with lush green foliage. Several small waterfalls flow into a river.

The narrator says, THE CAPITAL CITY OF VIETNAM IS
HANOI AND IT HAS MANY STREETS
WHERE LOTS OF DELICIOUS FRESH
FOOD IS SOLD.

People mill about in an outdoor market. Colourful canoes sit along the shore of a white sand beach.

The narrator continues, THE WEATHER IN VIETNAM CAN BE
VERY HOT, AND VERY WET.

People walk down a street in a rainstorm.

The narrator continues, THIS MAKES IT THE IDEAL PLACE
TO GROW LOTS OF DIFFERENT
CROPS, LIKE RICE, BLACK PEPPER,
CASHEW NUTS AND ONE OF RYAN'S
PORK AND PRAWN CHA INGREDIENTS,
FRESH MINT.

Ryan pumps liquid soap into his hand.

The narrator says, RYAN'S WASHED HIS HANDS, PUT ON
HIS APRON AND HE'S READY TO
COOK.

Ryan says, TODAY I'M MAKING VIETNAMESE
PORK AND PRAWN CHA.

The narrator says, AND HE'S INVITED SUMMER…

A girl with long blonde hair wears blue jean overalls over a white shirt. She waves.

The narrator continues, JAMES…

A boy with short red hair wears a white polo shirt with horizontal blue stripes. He waves.

The narrator continues, AND ROSE…

A girl with long wavy strawberry blonde hair wears wire-rimmed glasses, a blue and white floral shirt, and a yellow and white bow in her hair. She waves.

The narrator continues, TO TASTE ONE OF
THE INGREDIENTS BEFORE THEY
COME ROUND FOR A VIETNAMESE
MEAL LATER.

A mint leaf sits in a small cardboard box.

The narrator says, WHAT'S THAT?

Summer says, I THINK IT'S A HERB.

James says, I THINK IT'S A LEAF.

Summer says, IT SMELLS A BIT FUNNY.

Rose says, IT FEELS ALL SLIPPERY.

James says, SMELLS LIKE MINT.

The narrator says, HA!
IT'S A FRESH MINT LEAF!

The kids take a bite of mint leaves.

James says, I DON'T LIKE IT.

Summer says, I DON'T REALLY LIKE IT.

The narrator says, UH-OH.

Rose says, I LIKE THE SMELL OF IT, BUT I
DON'T REALLY LIKE THE TASTE OF
IT BECAUSE IT TASTES LIKE
TOOTHPASTE.

The narrator says, OHH, NO.
LET'S SEE IF RYAN CAN CHANGE
THEIR MINDS, BECAUSE FRESH MINT
IS ONE OF THE INGREDIENTS IN
HIS PORK AND PRAWN CHA.
YOU'LL ALSO NEED AN EGG, SOY
SAUCE, FISH SAUCE, GARLIC
PUREE, COOKED PORK MINCE,
COOKED SHELLED PRAWNS, SPRING
ONIONS, BLACK PEPPER, PLAIN
FLOUR AND OLIVE OIL.

The ingredients are spread out on a grey counter.

Ryan says, I'M GOING TO DO ONE SPOON OF
SOY SAUCE INTO THIS BOWL.

The narrator says, THEN ADD FISH SAUCE AND
GARLIC PUREE.
CAREFULLY TOP AND TAIL SPRING
ONIONS, AND CHOP THEM INTO
SMALL PIECES.

Ryan cuts the onions with safety scissors.

The narrator says, ADD THEM TO THE BOWL.

Ryan says, NOW WE CAN GET THE PORK.

Ryan opens a refrigerator.

The narrator says, RYAN'S MUM COOKED THIS
EARLIER.
ADD IT TO A PLASTIC FOOD BAG.

Ryan says, I THINK MY FRIENDS WILL
REALLY, REALLY LIKE THIS SO
MUCH.

The narrator says, BASH IT WITH A ROLLING PIN.

Ryan says, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S DONE NOW.

The narrator says, YEAH, ALL DONE.

Ryan says, NOW I'M GOING TO PUT IT INTO
THIS BOWL.

Ryan opens the refrigerator.

The narrator says, THEN GET COOKED PRAWNS FROM
THE FRIDGE.

Ryan says, I'M GOING TO DO THE SAME
THING WITH THE PRAWNS WHAT WE
JUST DID WITH THE PORK.

The narrator says, THAT'S RIGHT, JUST SPOON THEM
INTO YOUR BAG AND GIVE THEM A
BASH.
NOW REMEMBER, YOU HAVE TO BE
VERY CAREFUL WHEN COOKING WITH
PRAWNS, SO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T
USE THIS BAG AGAIN.
ADD THEM TO THE BOWL.

Ryan says, IT'S TIME FOR MY SPECIAL
INGREDIENT.

The narrator says, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS,
DON'T YOU?
FRESH MINT.

An animated mint plant grows in front of a grey background.

The narrator continues, FRESH MINT IS A HERB THAT GROWS
ON A PLANT THAT HAS A STRONG
MINTY TASTE AND SMELL.
THE LEAVES OF THE MINT PLANT
CAN BE DARK GREEN, GREY-GREEN
OR EVEN PURPLE IN COLOUR, AND
THIS IS THE PART OF THE PLANT
THAT WE EAT.
MINT HAS BEEN GROWN FOR A VERY
LONG TIME.

An animation of a man wearing a toga and a red sash is shown. He stands behind a wooden table with a wooden chair beside it.

The narrator continues, MANY YEARS AGO, PEOPLE WHO
LIVED IN ANCIENT GREECE WOULD
RUB IT INTO THEIR TABLES AND
AROUND THEIR HOMES TO MAKE IT
SMELL NICE.
THESE DAYS, MINT CAN BE USED AS
A PERFUME IN THINGS LIKE
SHAMPOO, AN INGREDIENT IN
MEDICINES, AS A REFRESHING
DRINK, AND EVEN AS A FLAVOURING
IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT FOODS,
JUST LIKE IN RYAN'S VIETNAMESE
PORK AND PRAWN CHA.

Ryan says, I'M PULLING THE LEAVES OUT OF
THE MINT.

The narrator says, THAT'S RIGHT, RYAN, PULL OFF
ALL THE LEAVES.

Ryan puts the leaves into a clear glass mug.

Ryan says, IT SMELLS LIKE TOOTHPASTE.

The narrator says, AND CAREFULLY CHOP THEM IN
A MUG.
THEN ADD TO THE DISH.

Ryan empties the mug full of chopped mint into a white bowl containing the pork and prawns.

Ryan says, NEXT, I'M GOING TO PUT TWO
SCOOPS OF THE FLOUR ON HERE.

Ryan sprinkles flour over the bowl.

The narrator says, MMM.
AND SOME BLACK PEPPER, AND THEN
GIVE IT A GOOD STIR.
WHAT'S NEXT?

Ryan says, I'M GOING TO TELL YOU HOW TO
SAY EGG IN VIETNAM-- IT'S CALLED
"TRUNG".
CAN YOU SAY TRUNG?

The narrator says, TRUNG.
NOW CRACK AN EGG INTO A MUG AND
MAKE SURE YOU WIPE YOUR HANDS
AFTER TOUCHING RAW EGG.

Ryan says, THEN WE'RE GOING TO WHISK IT
UP WITH THE FORK.

(Clinking)

The narrator says, WHISK AWAY.

Ryan says, WE ARE GOING TO PUT IT IN
THE BOWL AND MIX.

The narrator says, MIX IT, MIX IT!
AND YOU'LL NEED SOME CUPCAKE
CASES AND A BAKING TRAY.

Ryan says, NOW I'M OILING THE
CUPCAKE CASES.

The narrator says, CAREFULLY SPOON THE MIXTURE
INTO EACH CASE.

Ryan spoons the mixture into blue cupcake wrappers.

Ryan says, I'M GOING TO PAT THEM WITH
THE SPOON.

The narrator says, THIS SQUASHES THEM ALL
TOGETHER, BUT DON'T THEY LOOK
GOOD?
AND DAB THE TOP OF EACH ONE
WITH A LITTLE BIT OF OIL.

Ryan says, MUM, CAN YOU PUT THIS IN THE
OVEN FOR ME, PLEASE?

Ryan’s mum wears red oven mitts. She put a baking sheet with cupcake wrappers full of cha into an oven.

The narrator says, NOW, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE
RYAN'S PORK AND PRAWN CHA AT
HOME, ADD SOY SAUCE TO A LARGE
BOWL, ALONG WITH SOME FISH
SAUCE, AND GARLIC PUREE.
GIVE THEM A MIX, THEN TOP AND
TAIL SPRING ONIONS AND
CAREFULLY CHOP THEM INTO SMALL
PIECES, AND ADD TO YOUR BOWL.
ASK A GROWN-UP TO COOK AND COOL
PORK MINCE FOR YOU.
SPOON IT INTO A PLASTIC FOOD
BAG AND THEN BASH IT WITH A
ROLLING PIN.
AND ADD IT TO THE BOWL.
THEN TAKE YOUR COOKED PRAWNS
FROM THE FRIDGE, ADD THEM TO
THE BAG AND GIVE THEM A BASH
TOO.
REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE TO BE
VERY CAREFUL WHEN COOKING WITH
PRAWNS, SO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T
USE THIS BAG AGAIN.
ADD THE BASHED PRAWNS TO THE
BOWL THEN PICK THE LEAVES OFF
FRESH MINT, POP THEM INTO A MUG
AND CAREFULLY CUT INTO SMALL
PIECES.
THEN TIP INTO THE BOWL AS WELL,
ADD PLAIN FLOUR--
SPRINKLE-SPRINKLE-SPRINKLE, AND
GIVE IT ALL A MIX.
NEXT, A FEW TWISTS OF BLACK
PEPPER, CRACK AN EGG INTO A
MUG, CHECK IT FOR SHELL AND
DON'T FORGET TO WIPE YOUR HANDS
AFTER TOUCHING RAW EGG.
WHISK IT WITH A FORK, THEN POUR
OVER THE OTHER INGREDIENTS, AND
MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER.
THEN OIL CAKE CASES ON A BAKING
TRAY WITH OLIVE OIL.
SPOON THE MIXTURE INTO THE CAKE
CASES, PRESSING DOWN THE TOP OF
EACH ONE WITH THE BACK OF A
SPOON TO SQUASH IT ALL
TOGETHER.
DAB WITH MORE OLIVE OIL AND ASK
A GROWN-UP TO PUT IT IN THE
OVEN FOR YOU.
NOW THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR RYAN TO GET THE TABLE READY
FOR HIS DELICIOUS VIETNAMESE
MEAL.

Ryan puts a white tray containing red and white fruit onto a dining room table.

Ryan says, THESE ARE MANGOSTEENS, AND
THEY'RE VERY YUMMY.

The narrator says, IN VIETNAM, GUESTS ARE
SOMETIMES OFFERED FRUIT WHEN
THEY'RE VISITING.

Ryan places a tall clear blue glass jug on the table. He puts a wooden serving spoon and fork on the table beside a wooden tray covered by a large green leaf.

Ryan says, THAT LOOKS PERFECT.

(Doorbell ringing)

Ryan says, OOH, MY FRIENDS ARE HERE.

Branches with small yellow flowers and a small brass lantern decorate the middle of the dining room table.

The narrator says, WELL DONE, RYAN.
YOUR VIETNAMESE STYLE TABLE
LOOKS INCREDIBLE.

Ryan opens his front door.

Ryan says, HI!

Tyan’s friends say, HI, HELLO, RYAN!

Ryan says, COME IN.

The kids enter Ryan’s house. He closes the door and runs inside excitedly.

The narrator says, NOW EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR
HANDS AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.

Rose leads the kids into Ryan’s dining room.

Rose says, WOW, THAT IS AMAZING.
RYAN, WHAT ARE THOSE FRUITS?

Ryan says, THOSE ARE MANGOSTEEN.

Rose says, THEY LOOK VERY NICE.

Ryan’s mum enters the dining room carrying two plates of food.

The narrator says, AND HERE'S MUM WITH THE
COOKED FOOD.

Ryan’s mum says, HEY, GUYS.

Ryan’s mum puts a plate on a place setting with the wooden tray and leaf.

The narrator says, THE PORK AND PRAWN CHAS
TURNED GOLDEN BROWN IN THE
OVEN, AND MUM'S ADDED FRESH
MINT LEAVES AND LETTUCE.

Ryan’s mum spoons white noodles onto Rose’s plate.

The narrator says, IT GOES REALLY WELL WITH RICE
NOODLES.

James says, IT SMELLS A BIT LIKE MINT
WITH... WITH A BIT OF SAUSAGE
MEAT.

Rose says, IT LOOKS VERY COLOURFUL AND
NICE.

The narrator says, EARLIER ON, RYAN'S FRIENDS
WEREN'T AT ALL SURE ABOUT THE
TASTE OF FRESH MINT.
WILL THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS
WHEN THEY TRY IT COOKED IN HIS
RECIPE?
LET'S HOPE SO.

The kids eat the food.

Ryan asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY FOOD?

James says, THE MEAT TASTES REALLY NICE.

Summer says, IT'S REALLY NICE.

Rose says, I REALLY LIKE YOUR FOOD AND I
REALLY LIKE THE NOODLES AND THE
SHAPE YOU PUT YOUR FOOD IN.

Ryan asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK'S MY
SPECIAL INGREDIENT?

Rose says, I THINK IT'S MINT.

James says, A MINT LEAF.

Summer says, I THINK IT'S A MINT LEAF.

The narrator says, IT IS MINT.

Ryan asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE MINT
NOW IT'S COOKED?

James says, I CAN'T TASTE THE MINT IN
THIS FOOD.

The narrator says, IT LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE LIKES
THE TASTE OF FRESH MINT AFTER
ALL.

Ryan says, WILL YOU WANT TO EAT A
MANGOSTEEN?
THESE FRUITS GROW IN VIETNAM.

Rose digs a spoon into a halved mangosteen.

The narrator says, I WONDER WHAT THEY'RE GOING
TO SAY, RYAN.

Summer eats a spoonful of mangosteen.

Rose says, I REALLY LIKE IT, IT'S SO
SWEET.

The narrator says, AND THE MANGOSTEENS ARE
POPULAR TOO.
WELL DONE, RYAN.

Ryan says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO
MY WORLD KITCHEN.
