Transcript: How to: Paper Bag Zebra Puppet
A paper bag fox hops onto show host Mandisa’s hand. Mandisa has black hair held back by a headband and wears denim overalls over a peach t-shirt. She stands against an animated background. A cardboard robot lands beside Mandisa. Mandisa holds the robot and smiles.
A title reads, Curious Crafting.
Mandisa sits at a table in a playroom. She wears a green headband and a brown shirt under denim overalls. Children sit at the table on either side of Mandisa. One has long brown hair in braided pigtails and the other has short brown hair. Mandisa wears a paper bag zebra on her left hand.
Mandisa says, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU.
WHAT LOOKS LIKE A HORSE
BUT HAS BLACK AND WHITE STRIPES?
The long haired child says, A ZEBRA!
The short haired child says, ZEBRA!
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.
KIND OF LIKE THIS ONE.
Craft supplies are laid out on a table.
Mandisa narrates, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THIS CRAFT
GRAB YOUR SPONGE AND DIP IT INTO
Mandisa makes horizontal lines on a white paper bag with a sponge and black paint.
She narrates, DAB IT ALL OVER YOUR PAPER BAG
TO MAKE THE ZEBRA STRIPES.
Mandisa draws a white zebra nose and smile on oval black construction paper cut out glued to the paper bag.
Mandisa narrates, GLUE ON A BLACK OVAL
AND DRAW A NOSE AND MOUTH
WITH THE WHITE CHALK.
Mandisa glues googly eyes onto the paper bag above the zebra’s nose.
She narrates, GLUE ON TWO GOOGLY EYES.
GLUE ON THE PINK PART OF THE
Mandisa glues smaller pink zebra ear cut outs onto the larger cut outs painted with black stripes. She spreads glue onto the back of the ears.
She narrates, AND GLUE THOSE TO
YOUR PAPER BAG.
Mandisa glues the ears to each corner of the top of the paper bag.
She narrates, CUT THE MANE WITH A
PAIR OF SCISSORS.
Mandisa carefully makes small, short cuts into a strip of black paper while not completely cutting off pieces. She spreads glue onto the strip of paper with no cuts made, then glues the strip the back of the paper.
Mandisa narrates, AND GLUE THAT TO THE BACK
OF YOUR ZEBRA'S HEAD.
She glues the strip to the bag between the zebra’s ears. Mandisa ruffles the small strips cut into the paper to look more like a zebra’s mane. Mandisa holds up the completed craft.
She says, HI THERE ZEBRA, NICE TO MEET
The long haired child wears a zebra puppet.
The child says, HI, I HAVE PINK EYES.
The short haired child wears the paper bag on their hand. Mandisa wears hers.
She asks, DO YOU THINK OUR ZEBRAS
CAN BE FRIENDS?
Both children say, YEAH.
Mandisa wears her puppet.
She says, HI.
The short haired child says, HI.
The long haired child says, I'M MARIA.
