(The small green dragon laughs happily)

Zog smiles and gazes at the gold star. He flicks it with his finger.

(The star dings)

Zog says, UH-HUH.

The narrator says, JUST THEN, A LITTLE GIRL

Zog hides behind the tree.

Pearl says, OH, PLEASE DON'T CRY...

The narrator says,
...SHE SAID.

Pearl empties the contents of a doctor’s bag.

Pearl says, PERHAPS YOU'D LIKE A NICE
STICKY PLASTER FOR YOUR HEAD?

AND HIS WING TIP CAUGHT ALIGHT.

The tip of Zog’s wing burns. He frowns and falls from the sky.

BANDAGE FLAPPING WILDLY AS HE
ZIGZAGGED THROUGH THE BLUE.

The narrator says, ALL THE YEAR-FOUR DRAGONS
WERE LEARNING...

Madam Dragon says, CAN YOU GUESS?
YES?
YES?

The dragons look eager.

HOW TO CAPTURE A PRINCESS.

A stick figure in the distance is adorned with a small pink dress with a small smiling face wearing a crown.

The dragons smile and fly toward the princess stick figure. The red dragon picks up the stick figure, then flies back in the opposite direction of the other dragons. He bumps into Zog and falls unconscious. Zog flies away with the stick figure. He flies back to Madam Dragon and happily plants the stick figure into the ground.

Zog says, HA-HA, WOO!

Zog grabs the Princess. She punches and kicks him, then stuffs her crown over a horn in the middle of his head.

(Zog shouts)

Zog says, UGH.
OWWW.
I'M NO GOOD AT THIS...

The narrator says,
...HE CRIED.

(Knocking on a door)

The stern-looking woman knocks on a door and says, PEARL, PEARL?
PEARL!

Pearl stands in front of a mirror holding a frilly pink ad white dress against herself.

(Pearl sighs)

Pearl says, I'M NO GOOD AT THIS.

Pearl throws down the dress. It bumps a vase full of flowers on a pedestal. The vase wobbles.

(Pearl gasps)

(Glass breaks)

The vase lies shattered on the floor. Pink roses are strewn amidst the glass. A stream of water from the vase flows under a purple rug.

Zog gazes at his reflection in the fountain. An acorn splashes into his reflection.

The narrator says,
JUST THEN, HE SAW THE GIRL.

Zog pulls an iron gate off the front of a wooden door on the tower.

(Zog grunts)

The red dragon lies inside the tower looking ill. He sneezes and accidentally breathes fire. Pearl ducks. Pearl pours water from a watering can onto a small fire. Pearl puts on a rubber glove and reaches into the red dragon’s nose. She pulls out a squirrel.

The small green dragon hits a metal shield with a bone.

(The shield clangs)

The narrator says, A YEAR WENT BY, AND IN YEAR
FIVE, THE DRAGONS LEARNED TO
FIGHT.

(The yellow dragon screams)

Zog stands amidst the other dragons who all lie on the ground.

(Madam dragon applauds tepidly)

MY NAME IS GADABOUT.
SIR GADABOUT THE GREAT.

Gadabout presses the base of his lance onto a squirrel’s tail.

(The squirrel squeaks in pain)

The squirrel climbs up the lance and scurries inside Gadabout’s armor.

Gadabout says, I'VE COME TO, UM, RESCUE
PRINCESS PEARL.
I HOPE I'M NOT TOO LATE.
HMM.

Gadabout gently pokes his lance into Zog’s white belly.

The narrator says,
THEN PRINCESS PEARL STEPPED
FORWARD, CRYING...

Pearl says, STOP!

Zog breathes fire over Gadabout’s head. Pearl kneels between them.

Pearl says, YOU SILLY CHUMPS.
THE WORLD IS ALREADY FAR TOO
FULL OF CUTS AND BURNS AND
BUMPS.

Zog nuzzles his nose into Pearl. She pushes him away.

The other dragons look embarrassed.

Gadabout laughs, HA-HA!

Pearl says, DON'T RESCUE ME!
I WON'T GO BACK TO BEING A
PRINCESS AND PRANCING ROUND THE
PALACE IN A SILLY FRILLY DRESS.

Pearl tosses her crown onto the ground. Zog looks stunned.

Pearl says, I WANT TO BE A DOCTOR AND TRAVEL
HERE AND THERE, LISTENING TO
PEOPLE'S CHESTS AND GIVING THEM
MY CARE.

Pearl listens to Gadabout’s armor chest plate with her stethoscope.

(The squirrel squeaks)

(Pearl gasps)

Gadabout opens his armor. The squirrel scurries away.

(Gadabout chuckles)

Pearl bandages Zog’s arm.

Gadabout pulls off his helmet and says, ME, TOO...
