Transcript: Uranus
Polkaroo skips down the porch steps of his house into the garden. It's nighttime. The lights are on inside the house and there is a cozy sofa on the porch. Polkaroo looks at the night sky using his telescope.
He says POLKAROO...
Polkaroo is a tall, green kangaroo, and wears a mended, yellow and multi-coloured polka dot costume. He cups his hands over his long green ears and says POLKAROO...
(music plays)
His yellow hair moves as he jumps up and flies to outer space. He passes planet Earth and continues flying way up like a rocket.
He yells POLKAROO!
As the hot, blazing Sun and Mercury appear, a female voice says
IF YOU GO WAY UP, PAST
THE CLOUDS INTO SPACE,
YOU'LL FIND EIGHT PLANETS,
EACH IN THEIR PLACE.
The planets appear on screen as the voice names them. Mercury is small and red.
The voice says THE FIRST IS MERCURY,
SECOND IS VENUS,
Venus is brownish with stripes.
The voice continues THIRD IS THE EARTH WITH THE
MOON FLYING BETWEEN US.
The Earth is blue and brown, which shows the surface of the oceans and the land. The moon appears between Earth and Mars.
The voice says MARS IS FOURTH,
Mars is red.
The voice says JUPITER'S FIFTH.
Jupiter is enormous and red with off white stripes and a stain shaped like an eye.
The voice says SATURN'S THE SIXTH WITH
RINGS THAT GO SWISH.
Saturn is greyish and has rings around it.
The voice says SEVENTH IS URANUS,
THEN AT THE END,
NEPTUNE IS EIGHTH NEAR
PLUTO THEIR FRIEND.
Polkaroo flies around the planets and yells POLKAROO!
(music plays)
Then, he flies up to a completely blue planet. Several small moons spin around the blue planet, which also has rings around it.
The voice says URANUS IS BLUE AND
IT'S MADE OUT OF GAS.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY
MOONS THAT IT HAS?
Polkaroo tries to count the moons and writes in a notepad.
The voice says THERE'S ARIEL, MAB,
CUPID AND CORDELIA,
PUCK AND OBERON,
MIRANDA AND OPHELIA.
TRY TO COUNT THEM.
YOU'LL FIND 27.
EARTH ONLY HAS ONE MOON.
TWENTY-SEVEN,
GOOD HEAVENS!
Now Polkaroo sits on the rings and spins as Uranus spins.
The voice says URANUS HAS RINGS LIKE
A MERRY-GO-ROUND RIDE.
BUT ONE THING IS DIFFERENT
IT SPINS ON ITS SIDE.
Uranus turns sideways, and Polkaroo falls back into space.
The voice says ALL OF THE OTHER PLANETS
SPIN LIKE A TOP
URANUS ROLLS LIKE A BARREL
OR A CAN OF POP.
Polkaroo rolls away with a can of pop.
Then, he plays with planet Uranus and its rings.
The voice says NOW, POLKAROO,
SAY GOODBYE TO SPACE.
HELP PUT THE PLANETS
BACK INTO PLACE.
Polkaroo returns Uranus to its place, seventh from the Sun.
The voice says BYE-BYE, PLANETS,
BYE-BYE POLKAROO.
POLKAROO SAYS
BYE-BYE TO YOU, TOO.
Polkaroo floats away as he waves his hand.
