Teacher Winnie stands in front of a smart board. A picture of two horses by a tipi appears.

Teacher Winnie is in her twenties, with long straight brown hair. She wears glasses and a blue Homework Zone T-shirt.

As she draws a rose, a poem on the board reads "Roses are red, violets are blue, I make my bed because I love you."

She says HI, I'M TEACHER WINNY
AND WELCOME TO HOMEWORK ZONE.
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT
POEMS SO LET ME JUST CLEAR THIS
OFF.
NOW WHEN WE WRITE POEMS IT'S
REALLY NOT ALL THAT HARD SO
HERE'S A SIMPLE WAY TO WRITE A
POEM.
NOW I HAVE A POEM HERE THAT'S
PERFECT FOR MOTHER'S DAY AND IT
GOES, "ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS
ARE BLUE.
I MAKE MY BED BECAUSE I LOVE
YOU."
NOW WE BREAK IT DOWN WE CAN SEE
THAT SOME OF THE WORDS IN THIS
POEM, THEY RHYME.
SO THE WORD LIKE RED AND BED,
THEY KIND OF SOUND THE SAME SO
WE'RE GOING TO PUT UNDERLINE
THEM IN RED.
NOW THESE TWO LINES, VIOLETS ARE
BLUE AND BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, THE
LAST WORD SOUNDS A LIKE AS WELL.
SO I'M GOING TO UNDERLINE THIS
BLUE AND YOU.
AND WHEN WE PUT LETTERS ON THEM
WE CAN SEE HOW THEY RHYME.
SO I'M GONNA CALL THIS THE
LETTER A AND IT KIND OF MAKES A
PATTERN.

She writes "A" next to "red" and "bed" and "B" next to "blue" and "you."

She says B.
A.
B.
SO THIS IS WHAT WE CALL RHYMING
PATTERN BECAUSE IT GOES, A, B,
A, B AND WHEN YOU READ IT YOU
CAN SEE THAT THE RED AND BED GO
TOGETHER AND BLUE AND YOU GO
TOGETHER SO WHEN WE READ IT,
ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE.
I MAKE MY BED BECAUSE I LOVE
YOU.
SEE IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO MAKE A
POEM SO HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP
YOU ON YOUR NEXT POEM WHEN YOU
HAVE TO WRITE IT.
THANKS FOR WATCHING, I'M TEACHER
WINNY.
