An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, he’s having a drink.

Eric says DID YOU KNOW THAT I
CAN READ YOUR MIND?
I BET I CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY
WHAT YOU'RE THINKING JUST
BY ASKING A FEW QUESTIONS.
THERE'S AN AMAZING TRICK I'LL
TEACH YOU WHERE WITH A LITTLE
SUBSTITUTION, YOU CAN
LEARN TO READ MINDS, TOO.

(music plays)

He tries to grab the straw with his mouth, but fails everytime.

Next, he’s ready to start a new project.

Eric says OKAY, SO GRAB A PIECE
OF PAPER AND A PENCIL.
THIS IS A GREAT TRICK TO TRY
OUT ON YOUR FRIENDS, SO I'M
GOING TO TRY IT OUT
ON YOU, MY FRIENDS.
I WANT YOU TO THINK OF A
SUPER SECRET NUMBER BETWEEN
1 AND 9.

The blackboard behind him turns into a screen and numbers from 1 to 9 appear.

He says HAVE YOU GOT ONE?
THINK ABOUT IT,
BUT DON'T TELL ME.
GREAT.
NOW, WRITE IT DOWN.
NOW DOUBLE IT.
WRITE DOWN YOUR ANSWER.
THEN, ADD 8.
AGAIN, WRITE
DOWN YOUR ANSWER.

As he speaks, the captions on screen read "Pick a secret number. Double it. Add 8. Divide by 2. Subtract secret number."

Eric covers his face with both hands and says DON'T WORRY, I
CAN'T SEE ANYTHING.
CAN'T PEEK.
GOT IT?
COOL.
NEXT, DIVIDE BY 2.
NOW, SUBTRACT THE ORIGINAL
SECRET NUMBER, THE FIRST
NUMBER YOU THOUGHT
OF IN THE BEGINNING.
GOT IT?
GREAT.
REMEMBER, KEEP WRITING THE
ANSWERS DOWN ON YOUR PIECE
OF PAPER.
NOW, I WANT YOU TO THINK OF
THE LETTER OF THE ALPHABET
THAT CORRESPONDS WITH
THE NUMBER YOU HAVE.
SO:

The screen shows the correspondence between letters and numbers. It reads "A equals 1, B equals 2, C equals 3" and continues to "Z equals 26."

Eric continues
HAVE YOU GOT YOUR LETTER?
WRITE THAT DOWN.
MAGNIFICENT!
NOW, THINK OF A COUNTRY THAT
STARTS WITH YOUR LETTER.

The caption changes to "Country that starts with your letter."

He continues
TAKE YOUR TIME, YOU CAN
WRITE IT OUT IF YOU WANT,
BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
GOT IT?
PERFECTO.
NEXT, THINK OF AN ANIMAL
THAT STARTS WITH THE SECOND
LETTER OF THE
COUNTRY YOU CHOSE.
GOT YOUR ANIMAL?
AWESOME.
AND, FINALLY, THINK OF THE
COLOUR OF YOUR ANIMAL.
READY?
LOOK AT ME.

The captions change now to "Animal that starts with the second letter of your country. Colour of your animal."

Eric says ARE YOU THINKING OF A GREY
ELEPHANT FROM DENMARK?

The caption changes to "Grey elephant Denmark" along with a picture of the animal and a map of Denmark.

He says YOU PROBABLY ARE.
HOW'D I KNOW?
NO MATTER WHAT NUMBER A
PERSON STARTS WITH, THEY
WILL ALWAYS END UP WITH
FOUR, IF THEY FOLLOW YOUR
INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTLY.
THE NUMBER FOUR IS THE
LETTER D, AND DENMARK IS
THE FIRST COUNTRY MOST
PEOPLE THINK THAT STARTS
WITH THE LETTER D.

As he explains the trick, the captions appear on screen corresponding to the letter D and number 4.

Eric continues
THEN YOU TELL THEM TO THINK
ABOUT AN ANIMAL THAT STARTS
WITH THE SECOND
LETTER OF DENMARK.
SO IN THIS CASE, AN E.
AND MOST PEOPLE
THINK OF ELEPHANTS.
AND, OF COURSE,
ELEPHANTS ARE GREY...
LAST TIME I CHECKED.
I'LL TELL YOU, IT'S WORKED
FOR ME EVERY SINGLE TIME.
GOOD LUCK.

(music plays)

Eric appears back in the workroom playing with a little elephant bear.

He says IT'S BECAUSE, WAIT, SO THERE
YOU HAVE IT, I'VE SHARED
YET ANOTHER AMAZING SECRET
ON HOW TO READ MINDS WITH
SIMPLE CALCULATIONS
AND SUBSTITUTIONS.
NOW, ALL YOU APPRENTICES
HAVE TO DO IS TRY IT OUT
WITH YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER, IT'S NOT
MAGIC, IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
