Marine life navigates the ocean.
[Upbeat music plays]
A singer sings, OVER THE OCEAN
AND OVER THE REEF.
THERE'S A SUNNY LITTLE PLACE
CALLED KANGAROO BEACH.
The sun shines brightly over the Kangaroo Beach Lifeguard Headquarters. Text reads, Screen Australia and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation presents, A Cheeky Little Media production. Created by Tim Bain.
The singer sings, FRIZZY, GEMMA,
NEVILLE AND POUNCE.
Frizzy, a koala with blue fur, balances sunglasses on her head. Gemma, a platypus, wears goggles strapped over her head. Neville, a wombat, wears a bucket hat. Pounce, a kangaroo, hops over his friends and down a slide. All the friends wear a red and blue uniform.
The singer and others sing, CADETS IN THE CLUB,
SO COME ON, LET'S BOUNCE.
Gemma, Frizzy and Neville follow Pounce down the slide.
The singer sings, GOOD FRIENDS SURFIN'
SWIMMIN', LEARNIN’.
Pounce surfs down the slide. Gemma slides down on her stomach. Fizzy follows with her hands in the air. Neville spins down the slide.
He screams, AAH!
Outside, on the Kangaroo Beach dock, he blows a whistle and points to the water.
[Whistle blaring]
The singer sings, BONDI, SANDY,
BIG TREV TOO.
Bondi and Sandy, kangaroos, speed across the water on a boat. Underwater, Frizzy travels in a submarine with Big Trev, a bearded koala with green fur.
The singer sings, TRAININ' WITH THE VERY BEST
LIFEGUARD CREW.
STAYIN' SAFE, BEING BRAVE,
RIDE A WAVE, MAKE A SAVE.
Gemma rides in a helicopter. Pounce rides in a boat with Bondi. The life guards and junior cadets return to the beach. The cadets surf a big wave.
The singer sings, WE'RE HERE ALL SUMMER,
IT JUST GETS FUNNER.
LET'S HOP DOWN TO...
A large wave crashes into the lifeguards and cadets on the beach.
The singer sings, …KANGAROO BEACH!

Gemma says, HERE COMES THE AMAZING YOUNG
LIFEGUARD, SPEEDING INTO FIRST
PLACE!
Sandy watches Gemma run across the beach.
Sandy says, LIFT THOSE FEET!
COME ON, GEMMA.
DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE.
WHOA, WATCH OUT FOR PANDAS!
Gemma dodges a young and adult panda by flipping over them.
Gemma says, WHOA!
She crashes onto the beach.
[Gemma grunting]
The two pandas look worried.
Sandy says, OH, NEVER MIND .
On the water, Bondi kneels on a surfboard. Pounce does the front stroke.
Bondi says, KICK, STROKE.
KICK, STROKE.
KNOW WHAT'LL SPEED YOU UP?
Pounce looks up at Bondi.
Pounce asks, A SPEED BOAT?
[Bondi laughing]
Bondi says, NO, A WAVE.
CATCH THIS ONE.
He points to a wave that starts to lift Pounce. Pounce nervously paddles with the wave.
He says, WHOA!
The wave crashes over Pounce. Bondi slaps his forehead. On the beach, Neville rest on towels underneath an umbrella.
Neville asks, WHAT'S WITH ALL THE RUNNING
AND SWIMMING AND SWEATING AND
STUFF?
Frizzy says, THEY'RE TRAINING FOR THE BIG
SWIM RIDE AND RUNNING RACE THIS
ARVO.
GEMMA IS A PLATYPUS, SO SHE'LL
WIN THE SWIM, BUT NEEDS HELP
RUNNING.
Gemma copies Sandy’s running motions.
Frizzy says, AND POUNCE IS A ROO, SO HE'LL
WIN THE RUN, BUT NEEDS HELP
SWIMMING.
[Neville gasping]
Neville says, THE RACE IS TODAY?!
Gemma runs past Frizzy and Neville.
Gemma says, AND THE CHAMPION CADET BLAZES
ACROSS THE FINISH LINE IN FIRST
PLACE.
THE CROWD GOES WILD!
She celebrates on the sand. She glances at Neville and Frizzy.
Gemma says, THAT'S YOUR CUE, NEVILLE!
Neville says, OH.
GO, GEMMA, WE LOVE YOU, YAY!
He jumps up and down.
[Grunting]
Pounce lies at the edge of the water with his feet over his head.
He says, CRUSHING IT!
Pounce gets up on his feet.
He cheers, WHOO!
On the sand, Gemma has lines drawn and rocks and sea shells lined up.
She says, AS THE RACE STARTS, I'LL RUN
AS FAST AS I CAN TO THE WATER.
Gemma moves a yellow rock onto wiggly lines drawn in the sand.
She adds, HOT ON THE HEELS OF POUNCE.
She moves a blue shell.
Gemma continues, THEN, I'LL OVERTAKE HIM IN THE
SEA.
She drags the blue shell through the sand.
Gemma says, SWIM STRAIGHT FOR THE BUOY, GET
AS FAR OUT IN FRONT FOR THE REST
OF THE RACE, THEN DASH ACROSS
THE FINISH LINE, FIRST, AND DO A
CROWD-PLEASING VICTORY DANCE!
She holds a square shaped rock.
Neville says, COOL.
AND WHAT'S THAT?
Gemma says, THAT'S YOU...
She shows Neville the square rock.
[Gemma giggling]
Gemma continues, ...GETTING MY AUTOGRAPH.
Pounce joins Gemma and Neville.
He says, AWESOME PLAN, GEMMA.
EXCEPT FOR ONE TINY LITTLE
DETAIL.
Pounce grabs the yellow rock.
He says, THE RESCUE SQUAD SUPERSTAR'S
GONNA WIN.
He drags the yellow rock through Gemma’s finish line in the sand.
Pounce says, ME.
Gemma says, IN YOUR DREAMS, POUNCE.
Big Trev says, EXCUSE ME, KIDS.
COMING THROUGH.
He walks by the three friends with a trophy.
[The friends gasping]
Gemma says, WOW!
Pounce says, SWEET!
GONNA LOOK GREAT ON MY SHELF.
CAREFUL WITH THAT, TREV.
DON'T DING IT!
He follows Big Trev.
Neville asks, RECKON YOU CAN BEAT POUNCE?
Gemma says, DEFINITELY.
I'VE WANTED TO WIN A BEACH
CONTEST EVER SINCE I WAS LITTLE,
JUST LIKE MY HERO.
She pulls out a picture of a Sandy with medals around her neck holding two trophies.
Sandy’s voice echoes, OH, YEAH, THESE ARE MY
FAVOURITES .
PLENTY MORE AT HOME.
Gemma says, WHAT A LEGEND.
[Gemma giggling]
Gemma says, LOOK OUT, NEVILLE.
YOU JUST TROD ON YOURSELF.
Neville lifts his foot off the square rock.
[Neville yelling]
Neville picks up the rock.
He says, SORRY, LITTLE NEVILLE.
An aerial view shows the beach.
[Microphone feedback whining]
From inside a food truck, a bird with blue feathers, and an otter with red hair each hold a microphone.
The bird announcer says, WELCOME, SPORTS FANS...
The otter announcer says, AND HUNGRY CUSTOMERS!
The bird continues, ...TO THE KANGAROO BEACH
ANNUAL BEACH RACE, WITH THREE
BIG EVENTS - SWIMMING,
BIKE-RIDING AND—
The otter announcer says, POGO STICK JUMPING, YEAH?
The bird announcer says, —RUNNING.
The otter frowns.
[Whistle blaring]
Big Trev lowers his whistle.
He says, RACERS TO THE STARTING LINE.
Pounce hops up to a starting line.
The bird announcer says, HERE COMES UNBEATABLE RUNNER
POUNCE AND STAR SWIMMER GEMMA!
Gemma stands beside Pounce. The pair stretch their arms.
Pounce says, HOPE YOU LIKE SANDWICHES
'CAUSE YOU'LL BE EATING MY
SAND…UH... SAND...
WHICH IS COMING FROM BEHIND ME.
Gemma says, SAVE YOUR BREATH, POUNCE.
YOU'LL NEED IT.
Frizzy looks in a handheld mirror.
The bird announcer says, THEY'RE JOINED BY FRIZZY,
REEF, AND ROADIE,
AND…
Reef, a sea lion, and Roadie, a quokka, stretch. Neville anxiously approaches the starting line.
The otter announcer says, …A CUTE LITTLE TEDDY
BEAR!
Neville stands at the starting line beside Big Trev.
Neville says, BIG TREV, DO I HAVE TO RACE?
I'VE GOT A COLD!
I'M ALLERGIC TO EXERCISE!
ACHOO!
Big Trev says, AH, YOU'LL DO GREAT, TYKE.
NOW, COME ON.
WE'RE ABOUT TO START.
He raises his hand.
He says, ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO!
He lowers his hands and the athletes take off down the beach.
The otter announcer says, OFF THEY HOP,
FOLKS.
POUNCE TAKES THE LEAD, BUT
GEMMA'S CLOSE BEHIND.
Neville takes a step back from the starting line.
[Neville groaning]
Big Trev says, TRUST ME.
YOU CAN DO IT, NEVILLE.
He nudges Neville across the starting line.
Big Trev adds, YOU'LL BE FINE.
A short distance from the starting line, a lizard films the racers. Frizzy poses.
She says, OH, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
YOU'RE TOO KIND.
OH, STOP IT.
Neville runs between Frizzy and the lizard.
Frizzy yells, HEY, WAIT FOR ME!
She hurriers after the racers.
The bird announcer says, POUNCE ROUNDS THE
CORNER OUT IN FRONT, BUT
GEMMA'S ON HIS TAIL!
Pounce hops around a sign.
The bird announcer adds, HE MAKES A DASH FOR THE WATER.
LOOK AT THAT SPEED!
Pounce dives into the ocean.
The otter announcer says, LOOK AT THAT SPLASH!
On the beach, Sandy cheers, COME ON!
Bondi cheers, COME ON, YOU'RE DOING WELL,
BUDDY; COME ON, POUNCE!
Sandy cheer, YOU CAN DO IT!
GO, GEMMA, GO!
Bondi cheers, STICK IN THERE!
Sandy cheers, COME ON!
A map shows pictures of the racers on the water.
The bird announcer says, POUNCE MIGHT BE
FAST ON THE SAND, BUT THE
PLUCKY PLATYPUS SWIMS HARD AND
OVERTAKES HIM IN THE SEA!
In the water, Gemma says, HERE COMES THE CHAMPION CADET
SPEEDING BACK TO THE BEACH.
In the food truck, the bird announcer looks through binoculars.
He says, WHOA.
SHE MUST BE PRETTY KEEN TO WIN.
SHE'S SWIMMING STRAIGHT INTO...
Gemma says, A RIP?
AWW!
She paddles in the water, but doesn’t move.
Gemma groans, COME ON!
THIS ISN'T PART OF MY PLAN!
Pounce swims beside Gamma.
He asks, YOU OKAY, GEMMA?
Gemma says, YEP, TOTALLY FINE.
She’s pulled backward in the water. The map shows Gemma being pulled away from the beach in a rip current.
The bird announcer says, AS GEMMA STARTS TO
STRUGGLE, POUNCE SWINGS BACK
INTO THE LEAD!
On the beach, Bondi and Sandy hop toward the water.
Bondi says, YOU'RE DOING WELL, BUDDY.
COME ON, POUNCE!
He claps. In the water, a wave curls and starts to life Pounce.
Pounce yelps, WHOA!
He crashes with the wave. He rolls onto shore.
Bondi says, ONYA, POUNCE, YOU LITTLE
RIPPER.
Sandy looks worried. In the water, Gemma continues paddling without moving.
The bird announcer says, OH, I THINK GEM IS
GONNA NEED HELP.
Sandy says, HANG TIGHT, GEMMA.
I'M COMING IN.
She joins Gemma in the ocean on a rescue surfboard.
Sandy asks, HOW YOU GOING?
YOU OKAY, CHAMP?
Gemma says, ALL GOOD, THANKS, SANDY.
Sandy says, YEAH, DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT
FROM THIS ANGLE.
STOP TRYING TO SWIM AGAINST THE
RIP CURRENT.
YOU CAN'T WIN THAT WAY.
YOU HAVE TO STAY CALM AND FLOAT.
Gemma floats in the water.
Sandy continues, THEN, LET THE RIP CURRENT PUSH
YOU BACK TO THE WAVES.
Gemma floats across the water with the rip current.
Sandy says, THAT'S IT.
GOOD GIRL.
The bird announcer says, OH, GOLLY!
POUNCE IS GOING HARD!
Gemma groans, I'LL NEVER CATCH UP NOW.
Sandy says, YOU KNOW GEMMA, WITH THESE
BEACH COMPS, IT'S NOT ALWAYS
ABOUT THE TROPHY.
Gemma says, EASY FOR YOU TO SAY.
YOU'VE GOT 37 OF THEM.
Sandy says, ACTUALLY, IT'S 38.
BUT HEY, THERE ARE MORE
IMPORTANT THINGS THAN WINNING.
Gemma says, THANKS, SANDY.
Free from the rip current, she turns away from Sandy and starts to swim toward shore.
Gemma says, BYE.
Sandy cheers, ATTA GIRL!
YOU GO GET 'EM!
The map shows the other racers on the beach. Pounce’s picture approaches a bicycle icon.
The bird announcer says, GEMMA, SHE'S IN
LAST PLACE, BUT WILL SHE GIVE
UP?
The otter announcer says, MMM, MAYBE.
The bird announcer says, NO WAY!
On the beach, Pounce sits on a bike. He puts on a helmet.
The bird announcer continues, SHE RUNS PAST AND SOARS INTO
SECOND PLACE, HOT ON THE HEELS
OF POUNCE!
Gemma, on a bike, puts on her helmet.
[Bike bell ringing)
Gemma says, LOOK OUT, POUNCE!
YOU CAN RIDE, BUT YOU CAN'T
HIDE!
She races after Pounce on the bike trail Pounce looks over his shoulder.
He says, JUMPING JOEYS!
WHERE'D YOU COME FROM?
The bird announcer says, LOOK AT THAT
PLATYPUS!
IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!
Gemma looks determined as she speeds after Pounce.
The otter announcer says, YEAH, A DUCK'S BILL
AND A BEAVER TAIL - SO WEIRD.
The bird announcer says, NO.
GEMMA'S INCREDIBLE COMEBACK!
Pounce looks worried as Gemma starts to catch up to him. On the beach, Reef and Roadie sneak up to the lifeguard’s rescue golf cart.
[Reef cackling]
Reef says, FOUR WHEELS ARE BETTER THAN
TWO.
Reef hops into the seat beside Roadie.
Roadie says, YEAH!
ESPECIALLY FOUR WHEELS WITH AN
ENGINE!
HA-HA!
Reef says, GOLD TROPHY FOR REEF AND
ROADIE THIS WAY!
Reef drives the golf cart down the bike trail.
[Engine rumbling]
The map shows racers on the trail.
The bird announcer says, LOOKS LIKE REEF
AND ROADIE ARE TAKING A
DIFFERENT SET OF WHEELS.
The otter announcer says, SO, CHEATY, BUT SO SPEEDY.
On the beach, Neville runs up to a bike.
[Neville breathing heavily]
Neville looks up a cliff at signs directing the race.
He says, UH-UH, NO WAY!
He digs into the sand.
The bird announcer says, OH, WACKY WOMBAT!
NEVILLE'S TRYING TO DIG HIS WAY
OUT OF THE RACE.
Big Trev taps Neville. He looks at Neville with a frown.
Neville says, UH-OH.
Big Trev says, ON YOUR BIKE, NEVILLE.
He drops Neville onto the bike.
[Big Trev grunting]
Big Trev swaps Neville’s hat out for a helmet.
[Neville moaning]
Neville groans, AWW...
Big Trev clicks together Neville’s helmet strap. He gives Neville’s bike a push and smiles. Up the trail, Frizzy bikes slowly as she passes the lizard filming the race. She blows kisses to the camera. Neville bikes past Frizzy.
Neville says, HI, FRIZZY!
The lizard follows Neville with the camera.
Surprised, Frizzy says, WHAT?
Further up the trail, Gemma follows Pounce closely. Pounce looks nervous.
The bird announcer says, THEY'RE NECK AND
NECK.
AND…
Pounce looks over his shoulder at Gemma.
The bird announcer says, WHOO-HOO-HOO!
NOW, GEMMA IS AHEAD BY A NOSE!
Gemma pulls ahead of Pounce
The otter announcer says, YEAH, WHICH IS SO
CRAZY BECAUSE A PLATYPUS
DOESN'T HAVE A NOSE!
Gemma bikes down a curve in the trail. Sandy and Bondi stand to the side.
Sandy cheers, COME ON, GEMMA!
Bondi cheers, COME ON, POUNCE, DIG, DIG, DIG!
Sandy cheers, WHOO!
YOU'RE ON FIRE, GEMMA!
Gemma races down a hill. Elsewhere on the trail, Reef clings to the golf cart dash board.
Reef says, STEP ON IT, ROADIE!
FINISH LINE'S THAT WAY!
Roadie races past Sandy and Bondi. The cart tilts onto two wheels.
Reef yells, WHOA!
NO, NO, NO, TOO FAST!
HIT THE BRAKES!
Roadie’s feet dangle over the breaks.
Roadie says, I CAN'T REACH!
[Reef and Roadie yelling]
Roadie swerves down the trail. Pounce dodges the cart and skids to a stop.
Pounce says, HEY, WATCH IT!
[Reef and Roadie yelling]
Roadie races past Gemma.
Reef yells, BRAKE!
[Reef and Roadie screaming]
Reef and Roadie speed toward the water.
They yell, WHOA!
Roadie swerves, and drives onto the Kangaroo Beach dock. Reef and Roadie look scared.
Reef says, THIS IS WHY QUOKKAS AREN'T
ALLOWED TO DRIVE!
Reef slams on the breaks and the golf cart slows. It hits a sign at the end of the dock.
[Screaming]
Reef and Roadie are thrown out of their seats and into the ocean.
[Grunting]
[Splashing]
By the Kangaroo Beach lifeguard headquarters, Big Trev’s eyes widen. In the water, roadie clings to Reef.
They both yell, HELP!
Big Trev says, GREAT GUMNUTS!
He speaks into his radio.
He says, BONDI, SANDY.
AN EMERGENCY.
On the bike trail, Bondi looks through binoculars. He speaks into his radio.
He says, OH, YEAH, WE SEE IT, TREV.
Sandy speaks into her radio.
She says, BUT WE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT DOWN
IN TIME.
The two lifeguards head down the trail. At the bottom, Gemma rides her bike alongside the ocean. She glances at the water.
Roadie yells, HELP!
Gemma stops her bike.
Roadie yells, WE'RE CAUGHT IN A RIP!
[Gemma gasping]
Gemma says, OH, NO!
She looks ahead, at the nearby finish line. She looks back at the water. In the ocean, Reef and Roadie sway with the waves.
Roadie says, THIS IS YOUR FAULT, REEF!
Reef says, YOU WERE THE ONE DRIVING!
Gemma looks thoughtful.
She says, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE
TROPHY.
Gemma gets off her bike.
She says, CADET TO THE RESCUE!
The Kangaroo Beach logo spins appears, then reveals a flashing red light.
[Alarm blaring]
[Upbeat music plays]
In a montage, the Kangaroo Beach lifeguards prepare for rescue with radios, first aid kits, and rescue boards. The travel in their rescue vehicles, a helicopter, boat, submarine and golf cart. The junior cadets gather, ready for action, and pose.
On the beach, Gemma rides her bike onto the dock. In the food truck, the bird announcer uses binoculars.
He says, OH, I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
GEMMA'S LEAVING THE COURSE TO
HELP REEF AND ROADIE.
[Reef and Roadie screaming]
Gemma jumps off her bike and down onto a lower boarding dock.
She warns, DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE
CURRENT.
STAY CALM AND FLOAT.
Reef yells, WE ARE CALM!
[Reef and Roadie yelping]
On the beach, Pounce leaves his helmet on his bike. He glances toward the dock.
He says, GEMMA?
He looks surprised.
Gemma says, NOW, LET THE CURRENT PUSH YOU
BACK TO THE WAVES.
Pounce looks at the nearby finish line.
[Yelling in the distance]
Pounce looks uncertain. He looks back toward Reef and Roadie.
He says, UHH…
Pounce gets a determined look on his face. He turns around and heads toward the dock as Big Trev walks down the headquarters staircase.
Big Trev says, GOOD ON YOU, POUNCE.
Pounce grabs a rescue buoy and continues to the dock.
He calls out, GEMMA, CATCH!
He throws Gemma the rescue buoy.
Gemma says, NICE ONE, POUNCE!
She tosses the rescue buoy toward Reef and Roadie.
Reef says, OH, A FLOATY THINGY!
SWEET.
Reef and Roadie grab onto the rescue buoy.
Roadie says, OH, THANKS A BUNCH!
On the beach, Neville slowly rolls up beside Pounce’s bike. Neville starts to wobble on his bike.
He says, WHOA!
He falls off his bike and tumbles onto the beach.
Neville angrily says, THAT'S IT!
I QUIT.
I'M NOT RACING ANYMORE!
He crosses his arms. Behind him, Bondi and Sandy catch up with Big Trev.
Big Trev says, THAT WAY.
He points toward the dock. Neville looks over his shoulder at Big Trev.
Neville says, NO, YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!
He runs away from Big Trev toward the finish line.
Neville wails, NO!
[Distant cheering]
On the water, Bondi paddles over to Reef and Roadie on a rescue board. He pulls Reef onto the board as Sandy arrives on a similar board. Bondi leaves the riff with Reef as Sandy pulls Roadie onto her board.
Roadie says, WHOA!
[Roadie grunting]
Sandy pulls the rescue buoy onto her board. On the boarding dock, Gemma turns to Pounce beside her.
Gemma says, AMAZING RESCUE, POUNCE!
Pounce says, YOU, TOO, GEMMA.
GIVING UP THE RACE TO DO A
RESCUE?
JUST WOW!
The friends smile at each other.
[Both gasping]
Together, Gemma and Pounce say, THE RACE!
They run down the dock back to the beach.
[Distant cheering]
Gemma follows Pounce down the beach. Near the finish line, Frizzy looks at the lizard’s camera. Pounce spots her, and pauses. He joins her in front of the camera.
Frizzy says, I'D LIKE TO THANK ALL OF MY
FANS FOR THEIR SUPPORT–
Gemma runs up behind them
She says, HOPE YOU LIKE SANDWICHES!
She runs past Pounce and Frizzy.
Pounce says, HEY!
He hops after Gemma.
Frizzy says, HEY, WAIT FOR ME!
She runs after her friends. Pounce and Gemma look determined as they race to the finish line side by side. In the food truck, the bird announcer covers his eyes.
He says, OH, I DON'T BELIEVE MY EYES!
IN FIRST PLACE, IT'S…
The otter announcer says, THE CUTE LITTLE TEDDY BEAR!
Neville crosses the finish line ahead of Pounce and Gemma, who cross it together.
[Crowd cheering]
Neville keeps running. Pounce and Gemma stop. They look exhausted.
[Pounce and Gemma panting]
Neville runs up to Bondi, Sandy and Big Trev.
[Big Trev chuckling]
Big Trev says, I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT, TYKE!
YOU WON!
[Sandy and Bondi clapping]
He shows Neville a medal.
[Neville sighing heavily]
Big Trev puts the medal on Neville.
Neville says, I DID WHAT?
He looks shocked.
Big Trev says, AND AS A BONUS PRIZE, YOU'VE
WON A YEAR OF TRAINING FOR THE
NEXT RACE WITH ME AS YOUR COACH!
Neville’s eyes widen. Big Trev hands him a trophy twice his size and he falls onto the sand.
[Neville grunting]
Big Trev says, HOW 'BOUT THAT?
Sandy joins Gemma and Pounce with two medals.
She says, AW, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU TWO.
She hands Gemma and Pounce each a medal.
Sandy says, WHAT A RESCUE!
Gemma and Pounce wear their medals. They smile.
Sandy says, SEE, THIS IS WHAT THESE COMPS
ARE ALL ABOUT - TRAINING FOR
THE REAL DEAL.

Frizzy, a koala with blue fur, balances sunglasses on her head. Gemma, a platypus, wears goggles strapped over her head. Neville, a wombat, wears a bucket hat. Pounce, a kangaroo, hops over his friends and down a slide. All the friends wear a red and blue uniform.

Gemma, Frizzy and Neville follow Pounce down the slide.

Pounce surfs down the slide. Gemma slides down on her stomach. Fizzy follows with her hands in the air. Neville spins down the slide.
He screams, AAH!
Outside, on the Kangaroo Beach dock, he blows a whistle and points to the water.

Bondi and Sandy, kangaroos, speed across the water on a boat. Underwater, Frizzy travels in a submarine with Big Trev, a bearded koala with green fur.

Gemma rides in a helicopter. Pounce rides in a boat with Bondi. The life guards and junior cadets return to the beach. The cadets surf a big wave.

Gemma dodges a young and adult panda by flipping over them.

She crashes onto the beach.
[Gemma grunting]
The two pandas look worried.

On the water, Bondi kneels on a surfboard. Pounce does the front stroke.
Bondi says, KICK, STROKE.

Pounce looks up at Bondi.
Pounce asks, A SPEED BOAT?
[Bondi laughing]
Bondi says, NO, A WAVE.
CATCH THIS ONE.
He points to a wave that starts to lift Pounce. Pounce nervously paddles with the wave.
He says, WHOA!
The wave crashes over Pounce. Bondi slaps his forehead. On the beach, Neville rest on towels underneath an umbrella.
Neville asks, WHAT'S WITH ALL THE RUNNING
AND SWIMMING AND SWEATING AND
STUFF?
Frizzy says, THEY'RE TRAINING FOR THE BIG
SWIM RIDE AND RUNNING RACE THIS
ARVO.
GEMMA IS A PLATYPUS, SO SHE'LL
WIN THE SWIM, BUT NEEDS HELP
RUNNING.
Gemma copies Sandy’s running motions.
Frizzy says, AND POUNCE IS A ROO, SO HE'LL

[Neville gasping]
Neville says, THE RACE IS TODAY?!
Gemma runs past Frizzy and Neville.
Gemma says, AND THE CHAMPION CADET BLAZES

THE CROWD GOES WILD!
She celebrates on the sand. She glances at Neville and Frizzy.
Gemma says, THAT'S YOUR CUE, NEVILLE!
Neville says, OH.
GO, GEMMA, WE LOVE YOU, YAY!
He jumps up and down.
[Grunting]
Pounce lies at the edge of the water with his feet over his head.
He says, CRUSHING IT!
Pounce gets up on his feet.
He cheers, WHOO!
On the sand, Gemma has lines drawn and rocks and sea shells lined up.
She says, AS THE RACE STARTS, I'LL RUN
AS FAST AS I CAN TO THE WATER.
Gemma moves a yellow rock onto wiggly lines drawn in the sand.
She adds, HOT ON THE HEELS OF POUNCE.
She moves a blue shell.
Gemma continues, THEN, I'LL OVERTAKE HIM IN THE
SEA.
She drags the blue shell through the sand.
Gemma says, SWIM STRAIGHT FOR THE BUOY, GET
AS FAR OUT IN FRONT FOR THE REST
OF THE RACE, THEN DASH ACROSS

Neville says, COOL.

Gemma stands beside Pounce. The pair stretch their arms.

He raises his hand.

He lowers his hands and the athletes take off down the beach.
The otter announcer says, OFF THEY HOP,

POUNCE TAKES THE LEAD, BUT

Neville takes a step back from the starting line.
[Neville groaning]
Big Trev says, TRUST ME.
YOU CAN DO IT, NEVILLE.
He nudges Neville across the starting line.

A short distance from the starting line, a lizard films the racers. Frizzy poses.

She’s pulled backward in the water. The map shows Gemma being pulled away from the beach in a rip current.
The bird announcer says, AS GEMMA STARTS TO
STRUGGLE, POUNCE SWINGS BACK
INTO THE LEAD!
On the beach, Bondi and Sandy hop toward the water.
Bondi says, YOU'RE DOING WELL, BUDDY.
COME ON, POUNCE!
He claps. In the water, a wave curls and starts to life Pounce.
Pounce yelps, WHOA!
He crashes with the wave. He rolls onto shore.
Bondi says, ONYA, POUNCE, YOU LITTLE
RIPPER.
Sandy looks worried. In the water, Gemma continues paddling without moving.
The bird announcer says, OH, I THINK GEM IS
GONNA NEED HELP.
Sandy says, HANG TIGHT, GEMMA.

She joins Gemma in the ocean on a rescue surfboard.
Sandy asks, HOW YOU GOING?

On the beach, Pounce sits on a bike. He puts on a helmet.

Gemma, on a bike, puts on her helmet.
[Bike bell ringing)
Gemma says, LOOK OUT, POUNCE!

She races after Pounce on the bike trail Pounce looks over his shoulder.
He says, JUMPING JOEYS!

The bird announcer says, LOOK AT THAT

IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!
Gemma looks determined as she speeds after Pounce.
The otter announcer says, YEAH, A DUCK'S BILL

Pounce looks worried as Gemma starts to catch up to him. On the beach, Reef and Roadie sneak up to the lifeguard’s rescue golf cart.
[Reef cackling]
Reef says, FOUR WHEELS ARE BETTER THAN
TWO.
Reef hops into the seat beside Roadie.
Roadie says, YEAH!
ESPECIALLY FOUR WHEELS WITH AN
ENGINE!
HA-HA!
Reef says, GOLD TROPHY FOR REEF AND
ROADIE THIS WAY!
Reef drives the golf cart down the bike trail.
[Engine rumbling]
The map shows racers on the trail.
The bird announcer says, LOOKS LIKE REEF
AND ROADIE ARE TAKING A
DIFFERENT SET OF WHEELS.
The otter announcer says, SO, CHEATY, BUT SO SPEEDY.
On the beach, Neville runs up to a bike.
[Neville breathing heavily]
Neville looks up a cliff at signs directing the race.
He says, UH-UH, NO WAY!
He digs into the sand.
The bird announcer says, OH, WACKY WOMBAT!
NEVILLE'S TRYING TO DIG HIS WAY
OUT OF THE RACE.
Big Trev taps Neville. He looks at Neville with a frown.
Neville says, UH-OH.
Big Trev says, ON YOUR BIKE, NEVILLE.
He drops Neville onto the bike.
[Big Trev grunting]
Big Trev swaps Neville’s hat out for a helmet.
[Neville moaning]
Neville groans, AWW...
Big Trev clicks together Neville’s helmet strap. He gives Neville’s bike a push and smiles. Up the trail, Frizzy bikes slowly as she passes the lizard filming the race. She blows kisses to the camera. Neville bikes past Frizzy.
Neville says, HI, FRIZZY!
The lizard follows Neville with the camera.
Surprised, Frizzy says, WHAT?
Further up the trail, Gemma follows Pounce closely. Pounce looks nervous.
The bird announcer says, THEY'RE NECK AND
NECK.
AND…
Pounce looks over his shoulder at Gemma.
The bird announcer says, WHOO-HOO-HOO!
NOW, GEMMA IS AHEAD BY A NOSE!
Gemma pulls ahead of Pounce
The otter announcer says, YEAH, WHICH IS SO
CRAZY BECAUSE A PLATYPUS
DOESN'T HAVE A NOSE!
Gemma bikes down a curve in the trail. Sandy and Bondi stand to the side.
Sandy cheers, COME ON, GEMMA!
Bondi cheers, COME ON, POUNCE, DIG, DIG, DIG!
Sandy cheers, WHOO!
YOU'RE ON FIRE, GEMMA!
Gemma races down a hill. Elsewhere on the trail, Reef clings to the golf cart dash board.
Reef says, STEP ON IT, ROADIE!
FINISH LINE'S THAT WAY!
Roadie races past Sandy and Bondi. The cart tilts onto two wheels.
Reef yells, WHOA!
NO, NO, NO, TOO FAST!
HIT THE BRAKES!
Roadie’s feet dangle over the breaks.
Roadie says, I CAN'T REACH!
[Reef and Roadie yelling]
Roadie swerves down the trail. Pounce dodges the cart and skids to a stop.
Pounce says, HEY, WATCH IT!
[Reef and Roadie yelling]
Roadie races past Gemma.
Reef yells, BRAKE!
[Reef and Roadie screaming]
Reef and Roadie speed toward the water.
They yell, WHOA!
Roadie swerves, and drives onto the Kangaroo Beach dock. Reef and Roadie look scared.
Reef says, THIS IS WHY QUOKKAS AREN'T
ALLOWED TO DRIVE!
Reef slams on the breaks and the golf cart slows. It hits a sign at the end of the dock.
[Screaming]
Reef and Roadie are thrown out of their seats and into the ocean.
[Grunting]
[Splashing]
By the Kangaroo Beach lifeguard headquarters, Big Trev’s eyes widen. In the water, roadie clings to Reef.
They both yell, HELP!
Big Trev says, GREAT GUMNUTS!
He speaks into his radio.
He says, BONDI, SANDY.
AN EMERGENCY.
On the bike trail, Bondi looks through binoculars. He speaks into his radio.
He says, OH, YEAH, WE SEE IT, TREV.
Sandy speaks into her radio.
She says, BUT WE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT DOWN
IN TIME.
The two lifeguards head down the trail. At the bottom, Gemma rides her bike alongside the ocean. She glances at the water.
Roadie yells, HELP!
Gemma stops her bike.
Roadie yells, WE'RE CAUGHT IN A RIP!
[Gemma gasping]
Gemma says, OH, NO!
She looks ahead, at the nearby finish line. She looks back at the water. In the ocean, Reef and Roadie sway with the waves.
Roadie says, THIS IS YOUR FAULT, REEF!
Reef says, YOU WERE THE ONE DRIVING!
Gemma looks thoughtful.
She says, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE
TROPHY.
Gemma gets off her bike.
She says, CADET TO THE RESCUE!
The Kangaroo Beach logo spins appears, then reveals a flashing red light.
[Alarm blaring]
[Upbeat music plays]
In a montage, the Kangaroo Beach lifeguards prepare for rescue with radios, first aid kits, and rescue boards. The travel in their rescue vehicles, a helicopter, boat, submarine and golf cart. The junior cadets gather, ready for action, and pose.
On the beach, Gemma rides her bike onto the dock. In the food truck, the bird announcer uses binoculars.
He says, OH, I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
GEMMA'S LEAVING THE COURSE TO
HELP REEF AND ROADIE.
[Reef and Roadie screaming]
Gemma jumps off her bike and down onto a lower boarding dock.
She warns, DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE
CURRENT.
STAY CALM AND FLOAT.
Reef yells, WE ARE CALM!
[Reef and Roadie yelping]
On the beach, Pounce leaves his helmet on his bike. He glances toward the dock.
He says, GEMMA?
He looks surprised.
Gemma says, NOW, LET THE CURRENT PUSH YOU
BACK TO THE WAVES.
Pounce looks at the nearby finish line.
[Yelling in the distance]
Pounce looks uncertain. He looks back toward Reef and Roadie.
He says, UHH…
Pounce gets a determined look on his face. He turns around and heads toward the dock as Big Trev walks down the headquarters staircase.
Big Trev says, GOOD ON YOU, POUNCE.
Pounce grabs a rescue buoy and continues to the dock.
He calls out, GEMMA, CATCH!
He throws Gemma the rescue buoy.
Gemma says, NICE ONE, POUNCE!
She tosses the rescue buoy toward Reef and Roadie.
Reef says, OH, A FLOATY THINGY!
SWEET.
Reef and Roadie grab onto the rescue buoy.
Roadie says, OH, THANKS A BUNCH!
On the beach, Neville slowly rolls up beside Pounce’s bike. Neville starts to wobble on his bike.
He says, WHOA!
He falls off his bike and tumbles onto the beach.
Neville angrily says, THAT'S IT!
I QUIT.
I'M NOT RACING ANYMORE!
He crosses his arms. Behind him, Bondi and Sandy catch up with Big Trev.
Big Trev says, THAT WAY.
He points toward the dock. Neville looks over his shoulder at Big Trev.
Neville says, NO, YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!
He runs away from Big Trev toward the finish line.
Neville wails, NO!
[Distant cheering]
On the water, Bondi paddles over to Reef and Roadie on a rescue board. He pulls Reef onto the board as Sandy arrives on a similar board. Bondi leaves the riff with Reef as Sandy pulls Roadie onto her board.
Roadie says, WHOA!
[Roadie grunting]
Sandy pulls the rescue buoy onto her board. On the boarding dock, Gemma turns to Pounce beside her.
Gemma says, AMAZING RESCUE, POUNCE!
Pounce says, YOU, TOO, GEMMA.
GIVING UP THE RACE TO DO A
RESCUE?
JUST WOW!
The friends smile at each other.
[Both gasping]
Together, Gemma and Pounce say, THE RACE!
They run down the dock back to the beach.
[Distant cheering]
Gemma follows Pounce down the beach. Near the finish line, Frizzy looks at the lizard’s camera. Pounce spots her, and pauses. He joins her in front of the camera.
Frizzy says, I'D LIKE TO THANK ALL OF MY
FANS FOR THEIR SUPPORT–
Gemma runs up behind them
She says, HOPE YOU LIKE SANDWICHES!
She runs past Pounce and Frizzy.
Pounce says, HEY!
He hops after Gemma.
Frizzy says, HEY, WAIT FOR ME!
She runs after her friends. Pounce and Gemma look determined as they race to the finish line side by side. In the food truck, the bird announcer covers his eyes.

Neville crosses the finish line ahead of Pounce and Gemma, who cross it together.
[Crowd cheering]
Neville keeps running. Pounce and Gemma stop. They look exhausted.
[Pounce and Gemma panting]
Neville runs up to Bondi, Sandy and Big Trev.
[Big Trev chuckling]
Big Trev says, I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT, TYKE!
YOU WON!
[Sandy and Bondi clapping]
He shows Neville a medal.
[Neville sighing heavily]
Big Trev puts the medal on Neville.
Neville says, I DID WHAT?
He looks shocked.
Big Trev says, AND AS A BONUS PRIZE, YOU'VE
WON A YEAR OF TRAINING FOR THE
NEXT RACE WITH ME AS YOUR COACH!
Neville’s eyes widen. Big Trev hands him a trophy twice his size and he falls onto the sand.
[Neville grunting]
Big Trev says, HOW 'BOUT THAT?
Sandy joins Gemma and Pounce with two medals.
She says, AW, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU TWO.
She hands Gemma and Pounce each a medal.
Sandy says, WHAT A RESCUE!
Gemma and Pounce wear their medals. They smile.
Sandy says, SEE, THIS IS WHAT THESE COMPS
ARE ALL ABOUT - TRAINING FOR
THE REAL DEAL.
Gemma looks proud. At the finish line, Big Trev smiles at Frizzy as she runs across.
[Crowd cheering]
Big Trev puts a medal on Frizzy. Frizzy takes a dramatic bow.
With Gemma, Pounce says, GREAT RACE, GEMMA.
Gemma says, says, RIGHT BACK AT YOU!
Pounce says, TOO BAD YOU DIDN'T GET TO DO
YOUR VICTORY DANCE.
Gemma says, BUT IF I DID, IT'D DEFINITELY
BE BETTER THAN YOURS.
Pounce says, OH, YEAH?
Gemma says, YEAH!
The two friends dance enthusiastically. Frizzy watches from her seat on the beach.
She says, PHEW.
IT'S EXHAUSTING JUST WATCHING
THEM.
[Soft snoring]
Neville sleeps against his trophy.
[Upbeat music plays]
