Leetia

Leetia is an 8-yr old Inuk girl who lives in Ottawa, Ontario. She has two older sisters - Hera and Lisa - and two pets - Tuko the cat and Kiki the rescue dog! Leetia loves all kinds of animals, including whales... In her room she shows us a painting of a beluga whale, a carving of a killer whale and even a whale tooth - but it doesn't look anything like ours! She and her mom look at an old picture of her great-grandmother, who she was named after. In the Inuit culture, this is called an ,ATIQ,, and it means they share a spirit name. Leetia also shows us how to write her name in syllabics, the symbols used to write in Inuktitut. Leetia makes the coolest cardboard creations and crafts a special rocket to take her stuffies to Mars, then she and her sister make a traditional Inuit snack called ,Palauga,, which is the Inuit version of bannock. Finally, we check out Leetia practicing on the ice - playing hockey makes her feel happy and brace! Leetia's special word is ,kuku,, which means ,chocolate, in Inuktitut.
