An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom with a thin string passing through the center of his head. He pulls both sides of the string coming out of each ear and makes it swing.

Eric says WHOA!
DID YOU KNOW THAT JUST BY
USING STRING AND SOME COOL
RULES ABOUT THE HUMAN BODY,
I CAN FIGURE OUT THE SIZE
AND PROPORTIONS OF
DIFFERENT PARTS OF MY FACE?
THESE COOL RULES PREDICT
BODY PROPORTIONS, AND
STRING IS WAY BETTER THAN
RULERS FOR MEASURING THINGS
THAT AREN'T STRAIGHT.
AS FOR MY ARTISTIC TALENT,
WELL, THERE'S NO TRICK
TO HELP ME WITH THAT.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS.

(music plays)

Eric gets ready to work on a new project.

He says OKAY, SO EVERY PERSON IN THE
WORLD IS UNIQUE, BUT WE DO
HAVE A LOT IN COMMON, TOO.
FOR EXAMPLE, BODY
PROPORTIONS ARE SIMILAR
FROM ONE PERSON
TO THE OTHER.
THAT MEANS WE CAN PREDICT
SOME MEASUREMENTS WITHOUT
ACTUALLY MEASURING.
USING STRING TO COMPARE
THE SIZE OF ONE THING WITH
ANOTHER, AND COMPARING ONE
BODY PART WITH ANOTHER,
ARE BOTH NONSTANDARD
MEASUREMENT.

The blackboard in the back turns into a screen and it shows the drawing of a man’s face. Horizontal striped divide the face in sections.

Eric says OKAY, IT WORKS LIKE THIS:
WE'RE COVERED BY BODY RULES.
EVERY PART OF US HAS THEM,
INCLUDING OUR FACES.
DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR
EYES ARE IN THE MIDDLE
OF YOUR FACE?
STRANGE, BUT TRUE.
THE DISTANCE FROM OUR
HAIRLINE TO OUR EYEBROWS IS
ABOUT ONE-THIRD THE
LENGTH OF OUR FACE.

(music plays)

He uses a string to measure the distance from the hairline to the eyebrows. The graphic in the screen shows the same.

He continues
THE BOTTOM OF OUR CHIN TO
OUR NOSE IS ANOTHER THIRD.
HERE'S ANOTHER, THE DISTANCE
BETWEEN OUR EYES IS THE
WIDTH OF ONE EYE.
HA!
THAT MEANS THERE'S ROOM
FOR AN EXTRA EYE IN THERE.

He continues to measure all parts of the face using the same string.

He continues
KIND OF WEIRD.
CHECK THIS OUT.
THE BASE OF YOUR
NOSE IS ONE EYE WIDE.
WHAT?
YUP.
ONE EYE WIDE.
THE DISTANCE FROM THE BOTTOM
OF MY NOSE TO THE CORNER OF
MY EYE IS THE
LENGTH OF MY EAR.

As he measures the screen shows the lines in the graphic according to the distances.

He says WHAT?
OH, YEAH.
MY EAR IS ONE-THIRD
THE LENGTH OF MY FACE.
MY FACE IS THE
LENGTH OF MY HAND.
HA!
COOL RULES, BODY
PROPORTIONS, AND STRING.
IT'S HARD TO STOP.

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. It features the different creations by Leonardo Da Vinci as well as close up to a statue with his face.

Eric says PEOPLE HAVE KNOWN ABOUT COOL
BODY RULES FOR A LONG TIME.
MORE THAN 500 YEARS AGO,
ITALIAN ARTIST AND INVENTOR
LEONARDO DA VINCI, MADE THIS
DRAWING OF THE PROPORTIONS
OF THE HUMAN BODY.
IT'S CALLED VITRUVIAN MAN,
NAMED FOR AN ANCIENT ROMAN
AUTHOR AND ARCHITECT FROM
MORE THAN 2,000 YEARS AGO,
NAMED VITRUVIUS.
HE BELIEVED THAT ARCHITECTURE
SHOULD BE INSPIRED BY THE
PROPORTIONS OF THE HUMAN
BODY BECAUSE OUR BODIES
HAVE SUCH A
BRILLIANT DESIGN.

(music plays)

Back in the workroom, Eric works with the string.

He says SO GRAB SOME STRING AND
CHECK OUT HOW THESE BODY
RULES WORK ON YOU.
COOL BODY RULES AND
NONSTANDARD MEASUREMENT.
IT'S NOT MAGIC,
IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
