An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric in a workroom, sitting on a chair to tie his shoelaces. He’s surrounded by all sorts of shoes.

Eric says OH, HEY.
DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE
OVER 43,000 WAYS TO TIE
YOUR SHOELACES?
43,000 WAYS.
I KNOW THAT IT MIGHT SEEM
THAT THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY,
BUT BECAUSE OF SOME MAGICAL
PATTERNS, THE POSSIBILITIES
FOR FUNKY LACES ARE
BASICALLY ENDLESS.

(music plays)

He stands up and shakes his right foot. Magically, the shoelace ties by itself.

Eric says BUT YOU ACTUALLY DON'T HAVE
TO BE A MAGICIAN TO DO THAT.
COME WITH ME,
I'LL SHOW YOU.
LET'S GO.

(music plays)

Eric appears skating in a park. He now wears a protective helmet.

He says LACING YOUR SHOES IS
ALL ABOUT PATTERNS.

(music plays)

Me sits on a bench next to a variety of colourful shoes in all sizes.

He says OH!
UGH!
GOOD THING WE DON'T
HAVE SMELLOVISION YET.
UGH!
HEY, CHECK THIS OUT.
THIS PATTERN IS CALLED
THE CHECKERBOARD.
IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE,
BUT IT LOOKS AMAZING.

(music plays)

In a fast twist, a shoe appears on screen with the laces as a green and red pattern. Next. he gets ready to do that to one of his shoes.

He says ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TAKE
ONE COLOUR OF SHOE LACE AND
THREAD IT THROUGH THE
EYELETS HORIZONTALLY.
LET ME SHOW YOU.

He first works with a blue lace.

Eric says OVER, UNDER, IN AND OUT.
OVER, UNDER, IN AND OUT.
OKAY, SO ONCE YOU'VE DONE
THAT, TAKE ANOTHER COLOUR OF
SHOE LACE AND THREAD IT
THROUGH THE HORIZONTAL
LACING, BUT VERTICALLY, SO
THAT THE LACES ARE WOVEN
OVER AND UNDER UNTIL YOU
GET TO THE TOP OF THE SHOE.
Next, he takes a green lace and completes the pattern.

Eric says ONCE YOU'RE DONE, JUST TUCK
YOUR LACES INSIDE HERE.
NOW, YOU'RE READY TO SHOW
OFF YOUR PATTERNS AND
FANTASTIC LACING.
TA DA!
THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT WAYS
TO GET AWESOME LACE PATTERNS.
YOU CAN PLAY WITH COLOUR,
TYPE OF LACES, OVER, UNDER,
IN AND OUT, PUT THEM ALL
TOGETHER, AND YOU CAN SEE
THERE ARE LOTS
OF GREAT OPTIONS.
YEAH.

(music plays)

He puts his shoe back on and gets ready to skate again.

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The video shows a series of windows displaying shoes and patterns.

Eric says CHECK THIS OUT.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF
THE COOLEST PATTERNS EVER.
WITH MORE THAN 43,000 WAYS
TO TIE YOUR SHOES,
YOU COULD HAVE DIFFERENT LACES
EVERY DAY FOR THE REST
OF YOUR LIFE.

Eric goes back to the workroom.

He says WELL, THERE YOU HAVE IT
MY FAITHFUL APPRENTICES,
I HAVE SHARED YET
ANOTHER AMAZING SECRET.
YOU KNOW, FOLLOWING PATTERNS
CAN LEAD TO SOME PRETTY
AWESOME THINGS.
TRY IT OUT
YOURSELVES AT HOME.
OVER, UNDER, IN AND OUT.
OVER, UNDER, IN AND OUT.
AND REMEMBER, IT'S
NOT MAGIC, IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
