An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, next to a large table with bottles and jars.

Eric says DID YOU KNOW THAT IT MIGHT
BE HARDER THAN YOU THINK TO
GUESS HOW MUCH A CONTAINER
HOLDS JUST BY LOOKING AT IT?
ILLUSIONS ARE ALL AROUND US.
OFTEN WHERE WE
DON'T EXPECT THEM.
LIKE IN PACKAGING.
BEHOLD, TWO ORDINARY
CYLINDER-SHAPED CONTAINERS.
WHICH DO YOU
THINK HOLDS MORE?
THE TALLER ONE OR
THE SHORTER ONE?

Eric shows the two cylinder-shaped containers on the table next to other colourful tubes.

He says YOU CAN'T ALWAYS
BELIEVE YOUR EYES.

(music plays)

He takes two cups and mixes some red and white beans.

He puts both cups behind his back and when putting them out, he says AND DONE.
PRETTY COOL.

(music plays)

Next, Eric shows a plastic and transparent sheet.

He says THIS, MY FRIENDS, IS NO
ORDINARY SHEET OF PLASTIC.
OKAY, IT IS KIND OF
ORDINARY, BUT I CAN TURN IT
INTO A CYLINDER.
BAM!
CYLINDERS.

He rolls the plastic sheet in and makes two cylinders. Next, he puts them in a larger bowl, standing. The taller one is inside the shorter one.

He says BEHOLD, THEY LOOK DIFFERENT,
BUT WILL THESE TWO
CYLINDERS MADE FROM PLASTIC
SHEETS THAT ARE EXACTLY THE
SAME SIZE, ALSO HAVE
EXACTLY THE SAME CAPACITY?
LET'S SEE.

(music plays)

He uses a funnel to put the beans inside the cylinder. He fills it all the way to the top.

He says ABOUT 5 MEASURING
CUPS IN THE TALL ONE.

He removes the tall one and the beans get inside the shorter cylinder. The top of it has some empty space.

He says INTERESTING.
LOOK AT THAT LEFT OVER
SPACE HERE AT THE TOP.

(music plays)

He completes the remaining space with some additional beans.

Next, he says WOW, THE SHORTER TUBE HOLDS
ABOUT 1 MEASURING CUP MORE
THAN THE TALLER TUBE.
IT NEEDS MORE
BEADS TO BE FULL.
THAT'S THE MAGIC OF
CAPACITY FOR YOU.

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The video on screen shows a series of containers in all sizes and shapes. The dynamic containers get filled and with different liquids to show their capacity.

He says YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY
ITS COVER, OR A CONTAINER
BY ITS HEIGHT.
A TALL SHAMPOO OR BEVERAGE
CONTAINER MIGHT NOT HOLD
MORE, OR BE A BETTER
DEAL, THAN A SHORTER ONE.
THE TALL ONE MIGHT HOLD
LESS THAN YOU THINK.
EVEN WHEN TWO CONTAINERS
HAVE THE SAME SURFACE AREA,
THEY CAN HAVE
DIFFERENT CAPACITIES.
AND THAT'S WHAT COUNTS.
REMEMBER TO READ THE LABEL.

Eric appears back in the workroom.

He says AMAZE YOUR FAMILY AND
FRIENDS BY ASKING THEM TO
STEP RIGHT UP AND GUESS
WHICH HOLDS MORE, THE TALL,
NARROW CONTAINER, OR
THE SHORT, WIDE ONE.
YOU'VE GOT TO MEASURE
IT TO KNOW IT.
CAPACITY, IT'S NOT
MAGIC, IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
