An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom playing with rings. As he moves them around, the rings would magically hook and unhook from one another.

Eric says NICE.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S A
WAY TO DO THIS TRICK, THE
AMAZING LINKING RINGS, AND
ALL YOU NEED IS JUST ONE
STRIP OF PAPER?
YOU SEE, THERE'S SOMETHING
CALLED A MOBIUS STRIP.

A caption on screen reads "Möbius Strip."

Eric continues
AND KNOWING HOW TO MAKE AND
USE THEM IS SURE TO AMAZE
YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

(music plays)

He manages to unhook the rings and says MAGIC.

(music plays)

Next, Eric is ready to start a new project. He unfolds a large strip of brown paper.

He says TO DO THIS TRICK, YOU'RE
GOING TO NEED ONE LONG
STRIP OF PAPER.
NOW, PUT A 180-DEGREE TWIST,
THAT'S HALF A TURN, IN YOUR
STRIP OF PAPER, AND
TAPE IT TOGETHER.
MOBIUS STRIPS ARE ALSO
CALLED MAGIC CIRCLES BECAUSE
THEY ARE NEVER ENDING.
THEY'RE ONE-SIDED SHAPE.
ONE-SIDED SHAPE,
PRETTY COOL.

He folds the paper and puts together both ends of the strip, flipping the paper once.

He says OKAY, TIME TO MAKE THE LINKING
RINGS FROM A MOBIUS STRIP.
HERE'S WHAT YOU DO:
WATCH CAREFULLY.
YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE TWO
CUTS IN YOUR PIECE OF PAPER
JUST LIKE SO.

He uses scissors to cut fringes in one end.

He says YOU SEE HOW IT
MAKES THREE FRINGES?
GREAT.
LET'S LABEL THEM...
A, B, C.

He writes letters in the fringes.

He says NOW, I'LL MAKE THIS STRIP
INTO A MOBIUS STRIP.
TWIST IT 180 DEGREES
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.
LIKE THIS.
AND YOUR FRINGES
GO ON TOP.

He folds the paper and puts the two ends together. The fringes are now on top.

He says HERE'S WHERE THE FUN
BEGINS, AND THIS IS TRICKY.
TAKE THE MIDDLE FRINGE,
THAT'S B, AND TAPE IT TO
THE END OF YOUR MOBIUS
STRIP, LIKE THIS.
I'M GOING TO SECURE THE
BACK, MAKE IT EXTRA TIGHT.
PERFECT.

He secures the ends with tape and continues.

He says NEXT, TAKE FRINGES A AND C,
AND CRISS-CROSS THEM UNDER
AND TAPE THEM TO THE TOP.
I'LL START WITH A UNDER
B, AND OVER LIKE THIS.
SECURE THE END.

He crosses the fringes as if it was a braid and secures them with tape.

He says NEXT, YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE
YOUR C FRINGE, GO UNDER
EVERYTHING AND BACK ON TOP
INTO THE FIRST POSITION.
SO RIGHT HERE.

He finishes with the last fringe and secures it, too.

Eric continues
NOW, WE HAVE A MOBIUS
STRIP WITH TWO CUTS IN IT.
SEE THAT?
GREAT.
I'M GOING TO FOLLOW THE
FIRST CUT ALL THE WAY AROUND.
CHECK IT OUT.

Now that the tips of the fringes are secured, he continues the line of each fringe with the scissors and cuts it all the way to the other side.

Eric says HEY, LOOK, MY FIRST RING.
NICE!
NOW, I GO BACK TO THE SECOND
CUT AND CUT ALL THE WAY
AROUND IT AGAIN.

(music plays)

Now that all lines are cut, he ends up with three different circles, all hooked to one another.

Eric says HA!
BEHOLD, THREE LINKING RINGS!
AREN'T THEY BEAUTIFUL?

(music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The clip shows a series of Mobius Strips in different objects such as bottles, containers and waste bins.

Eric says MOBIUS STRIPS ARE SEEN ALL
OVER THE PLACE, EVEN IN THE
RECYCLING LOGO, SYMBOLIZING
THE NEVER-ENDING NATURE
OF RECYCLING.
BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT.

Back in the workroom, Eric says SO THERE YOU HAVE IT.
I'VE SHARED YET ANOTHER
AMAZING SECRET, HOW TO
CREATE LINKING RINGS WITH A
VERY SPECIAL MOBIUS STRIP,
SOME SCISSORS,
AND SOME TAPE.
YOUR VERY OWN
LINKING RING TRICK.
OH, AND REMEMBER, IT'S
NOT MAGIC, IT'S MATH.
SO COOL.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
