(Music plays)

An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom. On the table next to him he has cards and boards with animals.

Eric says OH, HEY, DID YOU KNOW
THAT I CAN TURN
FOLDED PAPER
FROM THIS...
INTO THIS?

He shows a card that’s orange on the outside, but has the face of a penguin on the inside.

He says NO HOCUS POCUS
REQUIRED.
ALL YOU DO IS CUT AND
THEN FOLD THE PAPER
A VERY SPECIAL WAY.
IT'S CALLED PAPER
ENGINEERING.
YOU TOO CAN SEE A
TWO-DIMENSIONAL SHAPE
INTO A
THREE-DIMENSIONAL ONE
RIGHT BEFORE
YOUR VERY EYES.
STICK WITH ME AND
I'LL SHOW YOU HOW.

Eric’s stomach rumbles so he grabs his belly.

He says OOOH!

Next, he takes a triptych from the table, folds it to make it a bottomless box and puts his hand inside it. When pulling it out, he has a sandwich in his hand.

Eric says AHHH!

Now eric gets ready to start a new project.

He says SO FIRST, YOU WANT TO
CHOOSE AN ANIMAL
TO BRING TO LIFE.
ABRACADABRA, HOCUS
POCUS, BOOM!
CHICKEN.

He shows a finished card that looks like a chicken. He flips both sides to pretend like it is flying.

He says OKAY, YOU DON'T NEED
MAGIC TO DO THIS,
JUST MARKERS AND SCISSORS
TO BRING IT TO LIFE.

Now he takes a paper sheet and folds it in half. Next, he makes a small cut on the top part of the junction and proceeds to draw a chicken on the inside.

He says FIRST, FOLD YOUR
PAPER IN HALF,
LIKE A GREETING CARD,
JUST LIKE THIS.
MAKE SURE YOUR
CREASE IS CRISP.
LET'S MAKE THE
MOUTH FIRST.
WE'LL PUT A SHORT
CUT RIGHT HERE,
ABOUT 1-3 OF THE WAY
DOWN THE CREASE.
OPEN UP YOUR CARD
AND DRAW THE HEAD.
TRY TO MAKE IT
SYMMETRICAL,
WHICH MEANS BOTH
SIDES ARE THE SAME.
DO THE SAME FOR THE
BODY AND THE EYES.
THAT'S A FUNKY
LOOKING CHICKEN.
NEXT, I'M GOING TO
ADD SOME WINGS.
NEXT, WE FOLD THE CARD
BACK ALONG THE CREASE
SO WE CAN SEE
THE CHICKEN -
WELL, HALF A
CHICKEN.

He folds the card in the opposite sense and gets half of the drawing up and half down.

He says SEE HOW THE BEAK
HAS TWO PARTS?
THIS PART AND
THIS PART.
YOU WANT TO SEPARATE THE
UPPER AND LOWER PART.

He takes the small cut that would be the beak and talks like a chicken while moving it.

He says BAWK, BAWK, BAWK,
BAWK, BAWK, BAWK...
BAWK.
SORRY.

He folds the bottom back and forth.

Eric continues
FOLD THE BOTTOM PART BACK
AND FORTH LIKE THIS.
FOLD IT ONE WAY, THEN
THE REVERSE WAY.
DO THE SAME
WITH THE TOP.
THAT'S CALLED A
REVERSE FOLD.
WITH YOUR FINGER, PUSH THE
BEAK FROM THE BACK.
THIS MAKES IT
POPOUT.

He gives it a try. The beak moves while he opens and closes the card. It works!

He says HMM.
NOW WATCH YOUR
DRAWING COME TO LIFE
IN THREE DIMENSIONS.
CLOSE THE CARD AND THE
MOUTH LIES FLAT,
WELL, MOST OF
THE TIME.

He talks like a chicken again.

He says BAWK, BAWK, BAWK.
YOU GOT ANY CORN?
YES, I'VE GOT
SOME CORN.
NOW, YOU CAN ADD WHATEVER
DETAILS YOU WANT.
I THINK I'M GOING TO PUT
MY CHICKEN IN A TUXEDO.

(music plays)

He continues the drawing to complete it. Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. Origami figures appear on screen. Following, a series of amazing building made out of paper slide.

He says YOU MIGHT HAVE
HEARD OF ORIGAMI,
THE JAPANESE ART
OF PAPER FOLDING.
PAPER ENGINEERING IS
MORE LIKE KIRIGAMI.
A DIFFERENT
JAPANESE TECHNIQUE.
BOTH FOLD PAPER,
BUT KIRIGAMI
LETS YOU CUT
THE PAPER TOO.
WITH PAPER ENGINEERING,
IT'S OKAY TO CUT,
FOLD AND USE GLUE OR TAPE
TO MAKE THE PAPER
SHAPES THAT
REALLY POP.

Eric appears back in the workroom with the card finished.

He says SO SHOW OFF YOUR
PAPER FOLDING MOVES
WITH YOUR OWN POP-UP
GREETING CARDS AND
OTHER POP-UP PAPER
ENGINEERING.
PAPER FOLDING.
IT'S NOT MAGIC;
IT'S MATH.
MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
