(Music plays)

An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, he folds clothes and it looks like he’s packing.

Eric says OH, HEY.
DID YOU KNOW THAT
IF YOU TELL ME
HOW MANY PAIRS OF PANTS
AND SHIRTS YOU HAVE,
I CAN TELL YOU HOW
MANY DIFFERENT WAYS
YOU CAN COMBINE THEM
WITHOUT WEARING
THE SAME
COMBINATION TWICE.
BUT, SHOULD YOU WEAR ALL
OF THESE COMBINATIONS?
WELL, THIS IS A
GOOD TRICK.
BUT GOOD TASTE?
THAT'S A WHOLE
DIFFERENT SHOW.

(music plays)

He disappears for a moment and comes back dresses with a floral shirt, a matching large hat, sunglasses and a drink in his hand.

He says AHH!

(Festive music plays)

Next, Eric is ready for a new project.

He says PACKING FOR A VACATION,
EVERYONE WONDERS
HOW MANY CLOTHES
TO BRING.
THE GOOD NEWS IS, MAYBE
NOT AS MANY AS YOU THINK.
YOU SEE, YOU CAN COMBINE
THE SAME CLOTHES
IN DIFFERENT WAYS WITHOUT
REPEATING A COMBINATION
BECAUSE THERE'S MORE
THAN ONE WAY TO WEAR
AND PAIR PANTS
AND SHIRTS.
IN FACT, THERE
ARE MANY WAYS.
I HAVE THREE PAIRS OF
PANTS AND FIVE SHIRTS.
OH, I'LL START WITH
THESE PURPLE PANTS.
HERE WE GO.

(music plays)

He spins and magically gets changed. He’s now wearing a striped pair of trousers in black and violet.

He says HEY!
OKAY, HERE WE GO.
YOU CAN WEAR ONE
SHIRT, LIKE THIS.
OR THIS ONE,
THAT'S TWO.
OR THIS ONE,
THAT'S THREE.
HOW ABOUT THIS ONE?
THAT'S FOUR.
OR THIS ONE,
THAT'S FIVE.

As he speaks, he drags five different shirts hanging. As they shirts appear, a caption with a number for each of them appears on screen.

He says NOT TOO SURE ABOUT THIS
CRAZY PATTERNED SHIRT,
BUT FIVE SHIRTS CAN GO WITH
THESE SAME PURPLE PANTS.
THAT'S FIVE COMBINATIONS.
NOW, DO THE SAME WITH
THE OTHER PANTS.

(music plays)

The shirts hang from a string. He puts them over his chest without taking them out and see if they fit with the trousers he has on.

He says SAME IDEA.
YOU CAN WEAR THE GREY
PLAID PANTS WITH
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR,
FIVE DIFFERENT SHIRTS.

(music plays)

Now he spins again and changes into a different pair of trousers. These are black.

He says WHOO.
OR BE STYLIN' WITH
THE ORANGE PANTS.
AND ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR,
AND FIVE SHIRTS.
TOGETHER, FIVE SHIRTS AND
THREE PAIRS OF PANTS
I CAN GET 15 COMBINATIONS
15 OUTFITS.

A caption on screen reads "5 plus 5 plus 5 equals 15."

Next, he says ON SECOND THOUGHT I
MIGHT WANT TO HAVE
FEWER COMBINATIONS.

(music plays)

He continues to change trousers and see if they match with the shirts hanging. Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. The video shows ice cream scoops on the top and the same amount of cups in the bottom.

He says THIS TRICK WORKS
WITH, WELL, ANYTHING.
ALL YOU NEED IS TWO OR
MORE TYPES OF THINGS
AND YOU CAN PREDICT THE
NUMBER OF COMBINATIONS.
MULTIPLY THE FIRST
NUMBER OF ITEMS
BY THE SECOND NUMBER
OF ITEMS AND, TA-DA!
10 SINGLE-SCOOP
ICE CREAM FLAVOURS,
8 ICE CREAM
CONTAINERS.
80 COMBINATIONS.

The caption on screen changes to "10 times 8 equals 80." The scoops land on the cups and they get multiplied. Now the screen shows 80 combinations of the ice cream.

He says UGH, I FEEL FULL.
YOU CAN SHOW THIS
COMBINATION TRICK
TO YOUR FAMILY
AND FRIENDS
WHEN THEY'RE PICKING
OUT CLOTHES,
ICE CREAM FLAVOURS,
OR ANYTIME, REALLY.
NEVER COMBINING SETS OF
THINGS THE SAME WAY TWICE.
IT'S NOT MAGIC;

He puts on a hat and Spanish music plays.

He says IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.

(music plays)

The end credits roll.
