(music plays)

Against a white screen, the TVOKids and FifthGround Entertainment logos appear.

(giggling)

A caption reads "Original."

(theme music plays)

An animated blue sign that reads "FishHeads" falls into the sea.

Leo is an animated blue and orange catfish.

Leo says WE ARE THE FISHHEADS
EXPLORER CLUB,
SAYAT, CHRISTIAN,
AND ME, LEO.

Sayat and Christian are about 12 years old. Sayat has curly black hair and wears a blue sweater and a green lifejacket. Christian has short brown hair and wears glasses, an orange jacket and a blue T-shirt.

Leo continues TOGETHER, WE'RE GETTING WET
AND MUCKY
WORKING WITH EXPERTS AND
HELPING OUR AQUATIC FRIENDS.
EACH DAY WE'RE ON A NEW MISSION
EXPLORING WHAT'S GOING ON
ALONG THE SHORELINES
AND UNDER THE WAVES.
SPLISH, SPLASH, GRAB YOUR BOOTS
AND YOU CAN BE A FISHHEAD TOO.

Fast clips in split screens show Sayat and Christian sailing, exploring river eco-systems and learning about their creatures.

(water burbles)
The title of the show reads "FishHeads, Explorer Club."

Leo swims near two tablets showing fish swimming and the title of the show at the bottom of a lake.

Wearing a woollen hat, Leo sings WE ARE STOCKING THE LAKE
WITH A FISH CALLED SPLAKE
DOO-DAH, DOO-DAH
SPLAKE GROW TO ABOUT
46 CENTIMETRES LONG
She says OOH, THAT'S WAY TOO LONG
FOR THIS SONG
ALL THE DOO-DAH DAY
THE SPLAKE ARE AT THE TOP OF
OUR FISH FINDER LIST TODAY.
THEY ARE A HYBRID,
ALSO KNOWN AS A CROSS BREED
OF TWO TYPES OF FISH,
JUST LIKE HOW A LABRADOODLE
IS A COMBINATION OF A LABRADOR
RETRIEVER AND A POODLE.
OR, A PITSKY,
A PIT BULL AND A HUSKY.
OR... AGH... WAIT.
ENOUGH WITH THE FURRY
CROSSBREEDS.
SPLAKE ARE A MIX OF SPECKLED
TROUT,
ALSO KNOWN AS BROOK TROUT
OR BROOKIES AMONGST FRIENDS,
AND LAKE TROUT,
ALSO KNOWN AS LAKERS.
BASICALLY YOU TAKE A MAMA
LAKER AND A BROOKIE DAD
AND... TA-DA!
YOU'VE GOT A SPLAKE.
SPLAKE PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE
IN THE LAKES.
THEY ARE A FAVOURITE AMONG
FISHERMEN.
TODAY THE FISHHEADS ARE HEADED
OUT ON THE ICE
WITH A TEAM FROM THE MINISTRY
OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND
FORESTRY
TO STOCK A NEARBY LAKE
WITH SPLAKE.
WHY DO THIS IN THE MIDDLE
OF WINTER YOU ASK?
'CAUSE IT'S JUST WAY EASIER
FOR THE TEAM
TO ACCESS THE MIDDLE
OF THE LAKE
WITH HUNDREDS OF SPLAKE
WHEN IT'S FROZEN.

A team drives snowmobiles up to a frozen lake.

She sings OH THE DOO-DAH DAY
(humming)

A sign on a center reads "North Bay Fish Culture Station, Ontario."

A caption reads "Guy Hamilton. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry."

Guy says WELCOME FISHHEADS.
COME ON IN OUT OF THE COLD.

Christian says DON'T WORRY,
WE LOVE THE COLD.

Guy says WELL, WE'VE GOT LOTS TO DO
WITH THE SPLAKE TODAY
TO GET THEM READY FOR TRANSPORT.
AND WE'LL BE ON THE ICE
IN NO TIME.

In a clip, Christian stands next to a green board and says DID YOU KNOW THAT A HATCHERY
IS A PLACE
THAT RAISES FISH FROM EGGS.
IT CAN HELP FISH POPULATIONS
BECAUSE THE YOUNG ARE ABLE TO
GET STRONG
BEFORE BEING RELEASED
BACK INTO THE WILD.
AND WHAT'S EXTRA COOL IS THAT
FISH THAT MAY HAVE DISAPPEARED
FROM A LAKE COULD BE
REINTRODUCED WITH YOUNG FISH
FROM A HATCHERY AND HOPE
THAT THEY WILL START
TO POPULATE THE LAKE AGAIN.
IT'S A GREAT WAY THAT HUMANS
ARE HELPING OUT
OUR AQUATIC FRIENDS.
NOW YOU KNOW.

Guy is in his early fifties, clean-shaven with short hair. He wears a cap, and a green jacket over a blue zip sweater.

Guy says FISH COME FROM EGGS THAT
WE KEEP IN THE INCUBATORS
AT OUR FISH HATCHERY.
ONCE THOSE FISH HATCH,
THEY'RE CALLED YOLK SAC FRY.

Guy shows them small fish inside a jar.

Sayat says AH, THEY'RE SO SMALL.

Christian says WHAT IS SAC FRY?

The caption changes to "The yolk sac is the food the young fry absorb before they start to eat."

Guy says WELL, A SAC FRY IS THE LIFE
STAGE OF THE FISH.
WHEN IT FIRST HATCHES
OUT OF THE EGG
IT'S GOT A YOLK SAC
ON ITS BELLY.

Sayat says HOW MANY ARE IN THERE?

Guy says HOW MANY DO YOU THINK
ARE IN THERE?

Christian says I'M GONNA SAY 50?

Sayat says 35?

Guy says HOW ABOUT NOW
WHEN I STIR THEM UP
AND YOU GET A LITTLE BETTER
LOOK AT THEM.

The kids say WHOA!

Guy says THERE'S ABOUT 75 IN THERE.

Sayat says WHOA, THAT'S A LOT.

Christian says COOL.
HOW OLD ARE THEY UNTIL THEY
CAN EAT REAL FISH FOOD?

Guy says IT TAKES ABOUT SIX TO EIGHT
WEEKS FOR THEM
TO ABSORB THEIR YOLK SAC.
ONCE THEY'VE ABSORBED ALL THEIR
YOLK SAC
WE CALL THEM SWIM UP FRY.
THE REASON WE CALL THEM
SWIM UP FRY
IS BECAUSE THEY'RE ACTUALLY
SWIMMING UP TO THE SURFACE
OF THE WATER TO LOOK FOR FOOD.
ONCE THEY START TO EAT REAL
FEED,
THEY'RE ON THEIR WAY TO GROW
AND GROW AND GROW
AND BECOME YEARLINGS. WOULD YOU
LIKE TO SEE SOME YEARLINGS?

Sayat says SURE.

Christian says YEAH.

Guy says GOOD, LET'S GO TAKE A LOOK.
THESE ARE THE YEARLING SPLAKE.
THEY'RE ABOUT 14 MONTHS OLD.

Sayat says COOL.

Guy says THEY MIGHT SPLASH YOU A
LITTLE BIT.

Sayat chuckles.

Christian says THEY'RE BARELY THE LENGTH
OF MY HAND.
I CAN START TO SEE THE MARKINGS
APPEAR ON THEIR SKIN.
LOOK, SAYAT.

Sayat says YEAH, LOOK AT THE COLOURS.
THEY REALLY ARE A MIX
OF THEIR MOM AND DAD.
JUST LIKE I HAVE MY MOM'S CURLY
HAIR AND DAD'S NOSE.

Guy says YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT,
THEY ARE A MIX.
THEY'RE A MIX OF A BROOK TROUT
AND A LAKE TROUT.
AND RIGHT NOW THEY ALL LOOK
QUITE SIMILAR.
BUT AS THEY GET A LITTLE BIT
OLDER THEY'LL START
TO TAKE ON THE APPEARANCE
OF THEIR PARENTS
A LITTLE BIT MORE.

Christian says I WONDER WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE.
DO THEY LOOK LIKE MORE BROOKIE
OR A LAKER?

Guy says WELL, THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE
ON FAIRLY EQUAL CHARACTERISTICS
OF BOTH.

Sayat says SO WHAT DO THEY EAT?

Guy says THIS IS WHAT WE FEED OUR
SPLAKE. IT'S A PELLETED FEED,
NOT A LOT DIFFERENT THAN DOG
FOOD.
BUT FOR FISH IT'S JUST
A DIFFERENT SIZE.

Christian says HAVE THERE ALWAYS BEEN SPLAKE
IN LAKES?

Guy says YOU KNOW, THAT'S A GREAT
QUESTION.
THERE HASN'T ALWAYS BEEN SPLAKE
IN LAKES.
SPLAKE WERE STARTED IN FISH
HATCHERIES FOR A COUPLE
OF DIFFERENT REASONS,
ONE OF THE MAIN ONES BEING
THEY SURVIVE REALLY WELL
IN THE WILD.
AND IN SOME CASES THEY SURVIVE
BETTER THAN LAKE TROUT
OR BROOK TROUT WOULD IN CERTAIN
LAKES.
SO BECAUSE OF THAT WE STARTED
TO STOCK SPLAKE.
ALSO, IT GIVES ANGLERS AN
OPPORTUNITY TO CATCH SOME FISH.

The caption changes to "Angler equals fisherman."

Sayat says IF THEY SURVIVE SO MUCH
BETTER IN THE WILD,
WHY ARE YOU STOCKING THEM?

Guy says ANOTHER GREAT QUESTION.
IT'S HIGHLY UNLIKELY
THAT THE SPLAKE
WILL HAVE THEIR OWN BABIES.
THAT'S WHAT MAKES FISH
HATCHERIES LIKE THIS VERY
IMPORTANT.

Sayat says AND IF THE FISHERMEN CATCH
THE SPLAKE THAT MEANS
THERE'S MORE TIME
FOR THE LAKE TROUT
AND THE SPECKLE TROUT TO GO
AND HAVE BABIES.

Guy says YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
YOU FISHHEADS HAVE DONE YOUR
HOMEWORK.

Standing by a pool, Guy says THIS IS THE SIZE OF FISH
WE'RE GONNA BE PLANTING
LATER ON TODAY.

Sayat says PLANTING?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PLANTING?

Guy says WELL, PLANTING IS JUST ANOTHER
WORD FOR STOCKING THE FISH.
AND WHAT THAT MEANS
IS WE'LL TAKE THE FISH OUT
OF THIS BUILDING AND WE'LL GO
AND PUT THEM IN A LAKE TODAY.

Christian says ALL OF THESE?

Guy says NOT ALL OF THE FISH.
THERE'S ABOUT 1500
IN THIS UNIT.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE
ABOUT 600 TODAY.

Sayat says WHOA!

Guy says ARE YOU GUYS READY?

Sayat says WE FISHHEADS ARE ALWAYS READY.
HIGH FIN!

They high five.

The kids put fish in a bucket and later into a silver container.

Leo says AND AWAY THEY GO!
THOSE SPLAKE NOT ONLY
GET TO RIDE IN A TRUCK,
THEY ARE ABOUT TO BE LOADED
INTO COOLERS
AND THEN DRIVEN BY SNOWMOBILE
ON TO THE FROZEN LAKE
TO THEIR NEW HOME.
AHH, SUCH AN EXCITING LIFE.
SPEAKING OF ICE, SAFETY CHECK.
JUST BECAUSE THE LAKE LOOKS
FROZEN,
YOU MAY THINK IT MAY BE SAFE
TO WALK ON,
BUT IT MAY NOT BE.
SO YOU HAVE TO BE SUPER CAREFUL.
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.
TAKE IT FROM THE EXPERT.

Now, Guy and the kids stand near a frozen lake.

Guy says NO KIDS SHOULD EVER GO OUT ON
THE LAKE WITHOUT THEIR PARENTS.
SOMEBODY HAS TO CHECK THAT ICE
AND MAKE SURE THAT IT'S SAFE.
EVEN GOOD LOOKING ICE
HAS TO BE CHECKED
TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S SAFE.

Leo says SO AS GUY SAYS, MAKE SURE YOU
NEVER GO OUT ON THE ICE
UNTIL AN ADULT HAS CHECKED IT.

Guy says HEY GUYS, CAN WE DOUBLE CHECK
THAT THERE'S BUBBLES IN EVERY
COOLER?
THAT'S THE OXYGEN THAT
THE FISH NEED TO BREATHE.

Christian says I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW FISH
BREATHE. I BET LEO KNOWS.

Leo says HOW DO FISH BREATHE?
SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
AS THE FISH SWIM, IT OPENS
ITS MOUTH TO SUCK IN WATER.
THE FISH THEN PUSHES THE WATER
OUT THROUGH ITS GILLS.
AS THE WATER MOVES THROUGH
THE GILLS,
THE OXYGEN IS TAKEN FROM
THE WATER SO THE FISH'S BODY
CAN USE IT TO STAY ALIVE.
THINK OF GILLS THE SAME AS
CHRISTIAN AND SAYAT'S LUNGS,
BREATHING AIR TO STAY ALIVE.
AHH, ISN'T NATURE WONDERFUL.

Guy says WE ONLY HAVE ABOUT A HALF AN
HOUR TO GET THEM TO THE LAKE,
SO LET'S GET MOVIN'.

Leo says SPLISH SPLASH, FISHHEADS.
GUY'S RIGHT. THOSE SPLAKE CAN'T
SURVIVE IN THOSE COOLERS LONG.
THEY NEED TO GET INTO
THE LAKE LICKETY-SPLIT.

They travel in snowmobiles. Then, Sayat and Christian carry the fish in nets and put them in water holes in the snow.

Christian says HOW DO WE KNOW THE SPLAKE
WILL BE OKAY?

Sayat says YEAH.

Christian says ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY'RE USED
TO BEING FED EVERYDAY.

Guy says DON'T WORRY, THESE FISH ARE
GOING TO BE ABSOLUTELY FINE.
FIRST OF ALL, WE TOOK THEM OFF
THEIR FEED FOR 48 HOURS,
TWO DAYS. AND THAT'S TO GET
THESE FISH NICE AND HUNGRY.
THE LAKES THAT WE STOCK OUR
FISH IN HAVE EVERYTHING
THAT THE FISH THAT WE STOCK
NEED TO LIVE.
SO EVERYTHING IS IN THIS LAKE.
AND WHAT THOSE FISH ARE GOING
TO EAT NOW,
REMEMBER THESE ARE TWO YEAR OLD
SPLAKE.
THEY'RE PRETTY BIG. THEY'RE
GOING TO BE EATING THINGS
LIKE CRAYFISH AND MINNOWS,
THINGS LIKE THAT.
THEY'RE MEAT EATERS ALREADY.
THEY'LL BE JUST FINE.

Sayat says OH COOL. THAT'S AWESOME!

Christian says YEAH.

Sayat says THANKS FOR LETTING US HELP
PLANTING THE SPLAKE.

Guy says YOU GUYS ARE VERY WELCOME.
IT WAS GREAT SPENDING THE DAY
WITH YOUS,
AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH
FOR YOUR HELP.

Guy chuckles as he and Christian do the special handshake .

Christian says FISHHEADS!

Guy says ALRIGHT!

Guy and Sayat say FISHHEADS!

Leo says WAY TO GO, FISHHEADS!
I'M SURE THOSE SPLAKE ARE GONNA
BE VERY HAPPY
IN THEIR NEW HOME.
ATTENTION, FELLOW FISHHEADS!
A GREAT WAY TO MAKE SURE
THERE'S LOTS OF SPLAKE
IN THE LAKE IS TO PURCHASE
A FISHING LICENSE.
WEIRD, HUH?
GOING FISH TO HELP THE FISH?
BUT IT'S TRUE.
THE FEES FROM YOUR FISHING
LICENSE GO TO THE HATCHERIES
SO THEY CAN KEEP RAISING SPLAKE
AND OTHER FISH
SO THEY CAN GET THEM BACK IN
THE LAKE WHERE THEY BELONG.

Christian says YOU KNOW WHAT, I STILL THINK
THEY SHOULD BE CALLED BLAKE.

Sayat says I HAVE A COUSIN NAMED BLAKE.
IT'S JUST WEIRD THINKING
OF HIM AS A FISH.

Christian says YOU'D RATHER WE CALL HIM
SPLAKE?

Sayat says GOOD POINT.

Leo says HMM, CHRISTIAN MAY HAVE
A POINT.
BUT YOU KNOW,
A BLAKE WOULDN'T BE NEARLY
AS YUMMY AS A SPLAKE.

(theme music plays)

The end credits roll.
