EVERYBODY READY?

The three children cheer, GO WOLF JOE!

Text reads, Created by Alexander Bar

A title reads, Little Bear Chief.

(Playful flute music)

Joe and Nina run through a forest. Joe carries a box.

Nina says, CAN'T YOU RUN FASTER THAN THAT?!

Joe says, I HAVE TO KEEP
CHIEF MADWE'S TRAIL BARS
FROM BOUNCING AROUND.

Smudge runs past Joe.

(Smudge barks)

Nina says, SORRY CAN'T HEAR YOU!
I'M TOO FAR AHEAD!

Nina runs up to a yellow and blue community centre building.

Nina says, I WIN!
BUT YOU DID HAVE TO
CARRY THAT BOX.

The kids enter the building. Nina opens an office door.

Nina waves and says, BONJOUR CHIEF MADWE.

Joe says, HI BUDDY.

Chief Madwe sits behind a desk. Buddy stands beside the desk.

Buddy waves and says, HI, YOU GUYS.

Chief Madwe says, HELLO, KIDS.
WHAT HAVE YOU GOT THERE?

Joe says, KOOKUM SENT US TO DELIVER
YOUR BOX OF TRAIL BARS.

Chief Madwe says, THANKS, KIDS MMM.
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE
KOOKUM'S TRAIL BARS.
ONE MORE PAPER TO SIGN...

Chief Madwe holds a large black feather.

Nina says, THAT'S A COOL FEATHER,
CHIEF MADWE.

Chief Madwe says, I EARNED THIS CROW FEATHER
WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE.

Buddy asks, REALLY, HOW?

Chief Madwe says, IT WAS QUITE AN ADVENTURE.
BUDDY YOU CAN BE THE CROW
IN MY STORY.

Chief Madwe hands the feather to Buddy.

Buddy says, A CROW!

(Buddy caws)

Buddy flaps his arms and says, I LIKE CROWS

(Buddy caws)

Chief Madwe says, I TRACKED A CROW ALL DAY LONG
HOPING IT WOULD
DROP A FEATHER...

(Buddy caws and screeches)

Chief Madwe says, THE CROW LANDED ON
THE BRANCH OF A TREE,
FLAPPING ITS WINGS.

Joe says, HEY WE CAN BE THE TREE
C'MON NINA!

Joe and Nina extend their arms like tree branches.

(Buddy screeches and caws)

Chief Madwe says, THE CROW FEATHER REPRESENTS
SKILL AND THOUGHTFULNESS.
AND I WANTED TO SHOW EVERYONE
THAT I WAS WORTHY OF IT.
FINALLY, THE CROW
FLAPPED ITS WINGS
AND A FEATHER
DROPPED ONTO A BRANCH
THAT FEATHER WAS MINE
FOR SURE NOW
BUT WHEN I CLIMBED
ONTO THE BRANCH
CRACK IT BROKE AND I FELL, OOF

Chief Madwe falls onto the floor.

(The kids laugh)

Chief Madwe says, SO YOU CAN SEE THAT YEP
I HAD PLENTY OF SKILL,
BUT THOUGHTFULNESS, THAT TOOK ME
MUCH LONGER TO LEARN.

(Chief Madwe laughs)

Buddy says, MAYBE I COULD EARN
A CROW FEATHER TOO.

Joe says, GREAT IDEA, BUDDY.

Nina says, AND WE CAN HELP.

Chief Madwe says, YOU KNOW BUDDY EARNING A FEATHER
IS HARDER THAN YOU THINK.
TELL YOU WHAT, SON
I'LL LET YOU BORROW
MY CROW FEATHER
SO YOU CAN COMPARE IT
TO ANY FEATHERS YOU FIND.
BUT YOU MUST PROMISE
TO BE CAREFUL WITH IT.

Buddy says, I'LL KEEP IT SAFE AND
LEAD THE WAY.
JUST LIKE YOU WOULD.

Chief Madwe says, OKAY. BUT A GOOD LEADER
ALSO REMEMBERS
THE HUMILITY OF THE WOLF
BY RESPECTING THE CONTRIBUTION
OF OTHERS.

(Smudge barks)

Chief Madwe says, GOTTA RUN.
LOTS TO DO TODAY.
GOOD LUCK, KIDS!

Chief Madwe leaves his office.

The kids say, BYE CHIEF!

Buddy says, BYE DAD!

Smudge leaps in front of the feather, which Buddy holds.

Nina says, CAREFUL, SMUDGE.
THAT'S NOT A CHEW TOY.

Joe says, I KNEW FEATHERS WERE SPECIAL.
BUT I DIDN'T KNOW HOW SPECIAL.

Buddy says, ME NEITHER JOE.
WHEN I GROW UP,
I'M GOING TO EARN
LOTS OF FEATHERS.

Nina says, MAYBE ONE DAY
YOU'LL BE CHIEF BUDDY.

Buddy says, CHIEF BUDDY? WHOA.
I LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT.
CHIEF BUDDY SAYS EVERYONE
GETS TO GO FISHING EVERY DAY.
AND EAT BANNOCK EVERY NIGHT.

Joe and Nina cheer, HOORAY FOR CHIEF BUDDY!

Buddy holds the feather aloft and says, TIME TO EARN MY FIRST FEATHER.
LET'S GET CROWING!

The kids search outside the community centre. Buddy pops out of a bush.

Buddy says, NO CROW FEATHER HERE.

Smudge sniffs around a barrel.

(Birds chirping)

Joe sits on the barrel.

(Smudge barks)

Joe peeks inside the barrel. Smudge pounces on him.

(The kids laugh)

The kids stand atop a hill looking down at the community centre. Smudge carries a stick.

Buddy says, NO SMUDGE THAT'S NOT A FEATHER.

(Smudge barks)

The kids walk past a store in a town. A grey feather blows down a street between buildings.

Nina says, THERE'S A FEATHER! SEE IT?

Joe and Buddy say, YEAH!

(Wind blowing)

The feather blows off the roof of a building.

Buddy says, WE HAVE TO CATCH IT.
GOT IT!

Buddy compares the feather to the crow feather.

Buddy says, AWW, I THINK IT'S
A PIGEON FEATHER.
NOT A CROW FEATHER.
SORRY PIGEON.

A pigeon flies off the roof.

(The pigeon coos)

A chicken pecks at seed on the grass between a large blue house and a chicken coop.

(The chicken clucks)

Joe says, ANY LUCK?

Buddy says, NOT YET

(The chicken clucks)

Smudge chases the chicken. A feather falls off the chicken and lands on Smudge’s nose.

(Smudge sneezes)

Inside the chicken coop, Nina says, GOT ONE!

Joe and Buddy cheer YES!

Buddy and Nina hold up their feathers.

Buddy says, NOOO, IT'S A CHICKEN FEATHER.

(The chicken clucks)

Nina puts the feather in the chicken’s beak.

Nina says, SORRY, CHICKEN.

Joe says, IT'S NO USE, GUYS.
THERE'S NO
CROW FEATHER ANYWHERE.

Buddy says, I CAN'T GIVE UP NOW.
MY DAD DIDN'T.

(A crow caws in the distance)

Joe says, DID YOU HEAR THAT?

Nina says, SOUNDS LIKE A
CROW TO ME.

Buddy says, ME TOO.

The kids yell, LET'S GO!

The kids run with Smudge up a hill and into a forest.

(A crow caws)

The kids and Smudge peek out from trees, bushes, and rocks.

Joe says, NOT HERE!

Nina says, MAYBE OVER HERE?

(Birds singing)

(Smudge barks)

Buddy says, OH MR. CROW... WHERE ARE YOU?

The kids bump into each other and fall on a dirt path.

The kids say, OOF!

(The kids giggle)

(A crow caws)

The kids get up off the path.

Buddy says, WE CAN'T TELL WHAT DIRECTION
THE CROW CAWS ARE COMING FROM.
MAYBE WE'RE
BEING TOO LOUD?

Joe says, NINA'S RIGHT.
LET'S BE REALLY QUIET AND SEE IF
WE CAN TRACK THE SOUND.

(The crow caws)

Joe points and says, IT'S COMING FROM OVER THERE.
FOLLOW ME.

The kids run down a hill on the path. They hurdle a log lying across the path.

Buddy points up and says, THERE'S THE CROW!

(The crow caws)

The crow flies through a blue sky then lands in a nest.

Buddy whispers, I MEAN, THERE'S THE CROW.

Nina whispers, CHECK IF IT DROPPED A FEATHER.

The kids search a grassy area under the tree that the crow’s nest sits in.

Joe says, NO FEATHER.
HMM, MAYBE WE CAN TEMPT THE CROW
DOWN WITH SOMETHING.
HMM I'VE ONLY GOT BUTTONS
IN MY POCKET.

Buddy says, ALL I'VE GOT ARE MARBLES.

Smudge hops between Joe and Buddy with a stick in his mouth.

(Smudge barks)

(The kids laugh)

Nina holds a strand of blue yarn.

Nina says, THIS YARN
MIGHT WORK.
IT SURE WOULD MAKE THE
CROW'S NEST WARM AND COZY.

Buddy says, YEAH! AND IF THE CROW
FLIES DOWN TO GET IT,
MAYBE IT'LL DROP A FEATHER.

(Buddy chuckles)

Buddy says, NO BIRD IS GONNA OUTSMART
BUDDY THE BEAR.

The kids hide behind a bush watching the crow’s nest.

Joe says, ALL WE HAVE TO DO
IS HIDE AND WAIT.
COME AND GET IT CROW.

A skunk approaches the kids.

Nina whispers, SKUNK!

Buddy says, DON'T MOVE OR WE'LL GET SKUNKED.

(Nina gasps)

Smudge watches the crow’s nest. The crow flies away.

(Crow cawing)

(Smudge barks)

The kids whisper, SMUDGE NO!

The skunk turns its tail toward the kids, then walks away.

(The kids gasp)

Smudge barks happily and starts to run after the skunk. Joe picks him up.

Joe says, SMUDGE NO!
THAT'S ONE ANIMAL
YOU DON'T WANT TO CATCH.

Smudge licks Joe’s face.

Buddy says, NO FAIR.
THE CROW TOOK THE YARN
BUT IT DIDN'T
LEAVE ME A FEATHER.

Nina says, YES IT DID!
LOOK, BUDDY!

The crow adds the yarn to its nest. A black crow feather flutters down toward Buddy.

Buddy says, I GOT IT!

(Wind blows)

A gust of wind blows the feather away from Buddy.

Buddy says, NOPE!
THE WIND'S GOT IT.

Smudge chases the feather.

Nina says, AND IF SMUDGE GETS IT,
HE'LL CHEW IT UP!

Joe says, WE HAVE TO GET THAT
FEATHER BEFORE SMUDGE.
IT'S TIME FOR
SPIRIT POWER!!

Joe pulls up the hood on his blue hoodie. The hood has wolf ears.

Joe says, HOOD UP
I'M JOE
WOLF SPIRIT
LETS GO!

Nina puts on a yellow and white headband with glowing ears.

Nina says, LYNX EARS
NINA LEAP
LYNX SPIRIT
SO NEAT!

Buddy pulls up the green bear head hood of his hoodie.

Buddy says, BUDDY'S HERE I'M BRAVE
BEAR SPIRIT
READY TO SAVE!

Joe cheers, SPIRIT POWER!!
NOW LET'S
GET THAT FEATHER!

Smudge runs down the dirt path chasing the feather. He runs under the log. The kids hurdle the log.

The kids say, AHHH!
WHOAH
ARRGH

Nina runs behind Smudge and says, LYNX LEAP!

Nina dives toward the feather and falls.

Nina says, RAWRR WA OOF!

(Smudge barks)

Nina says, I MISSED IT!

Buddy says, SMUDGE NO!
BEAR PAWS!

Buddy dives toward the feather and misses it.

Buddy says, THAT'S ONE TRICKY FEATHER.

Smudge leaps toward the feather.

Joe says, OH NO!
WOLF SPEED!

Joe grabs the feather.

Joe says, GOTCHA!

Joe tumbles onto the path and says, OOOMMPH
YES!
GOTTA WORK ON MY LANDINGS.

Buddy cheers, YAAAY!

Nina says, WOAH.

Smudge licks Joe’s face.

Joe giggles and says, THANKS, SMUDGE! COULDN'T
HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU.

(Smudge barks)

Joe yells, SKUNK!

Buddy says, AGAIN!

The kids yell, AAAAHHHH!!!

The kids grab Smudge and dive into a bush.

(The skunk sniffs the bush)

The skunk turns and walks away from the bush.

Nina wipes her brow and says, WHOA,
THAT WAS CLOSE.

Joe says, BUT WE GOT
THE FEATHER.

Buddy compares the feather to his dad’s. They are identical.

The kids cheer, YES!

Buddy runs into his dad’s office carrying his feather.

Buddy says, DAD! DAD!
I EARNED MY VERY FIRST FEATHER!

Chief Madwe says, YOU DID? WELL DONE BUDDY.

Joe says, WE USED YOUR FEATHER TO
COMPARE IT TO THE NEW ONE.

Nina says, AND BUDDY WAS
SUPER CAREFUL WITH IT.

Buddy says, BUT I COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT
WITHOUT JOE AND NINA.
The feathers sit on Chief Madwe’s desk.

Chief Madwe says, THIS IS A FINE FEATHER INDEED.
SO UH WHERE DID YOU FIND IT?

Buddy says, AT FIRST WE COULDN'T FIND
A CROW ANYWHERE.
THEN WE HEARD ONE IN THE WOODS.
BUT IT WOULDN'T COME DOWN
FROM ITS TREE.

Nina says, SO BUDDY HAD TO
USE SKILL TO GET IT,

Joe says, AND SMARTS!

Chief Madwe says, THE CROW DOESN'T GIVE UP
A FEATHER TO JUST ANYONE.
AS YOUR CHIEF, AND YOUR DAD,
I'M PROUD OF YOU SON.

A colorful wheel spins. A golden wolf drawing glows over a blue sky.

Chief Madwe continues, THAT'S WHY YOU'VE EARNED THE
TEACHING OF THE WOLF
FROM THE SEVEN TEACHINGS WHEEL
YOU SHOWED HUMILITY BY
ACKNOWLEDGING
THE OTHERS WHO HELPED YOU
IN EARNING YOUR
VERY FIRST CROW FEATHER.
BUDDY, THIS IS JUST THE FIRST OF
MANY FEATHERS YOU'LL EARN
AS YOU GROW UP, JUST LIKE I DID.

Buddy says, HEAR THAT, GUYS?
I'M LIKE MY DAD!

Chief Madwe says, NOW, WHY DON'T YOU KIDS
TELL ME ALL ABOUT THE
ADVENTURE OF THE CROW FEATHER?

Joe says, WE ALMOST GOT SKUNKED!

Nina says, AND THEN THE CROW
STOLE OUR YARN.

(Chief Madwe chuckles)

Chief Madwe says, IT TAKES REAL HEROES
TO OUTSMART A SKUNK.
AND A CROW!

Smudge paws at Buddy’s feather.

Buddy says, AND A PUPPY!

(Everyone laughs)
