(An upbeat synthesizer theme song plays)

Text reads, TVO Kids presents.

Animated images of the planets in the solar system appear.

A woman sings,
I LIVE ON EARTH
I LOOK TO THE SKY
SO MUCH WONDER
FILLS MY MIND
WE ARE SPACE KIDS
SPACE KIDS.

A title reads, Space Kids – Roving Mars.

A young girl says, ROVING MARS.

A young boy narrator says, ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO, NASA
SENT A ROVER TO THE PLANET MARS. THE ROVER WAS NAMED OPPORTUNITY.
OPPORTUNITY'S MISSION WAS TO
SEARCH FOR CLUES TO MARS' PAST.

An animation shows a small spacecraft landing on Mars and opening.
The rover, Opportunity travels out of the spacecraft. It is metallic and rolls across the Martian surface on small wheels.

The narrator continues, THE MISSION WAS MEANT
TO LAST THREE MONTHS.
THE ROVER STRUCK OUT ACROSS
THE MARTIAN DESERT
HEADED FOR A MASSIVE CRATER,
CALLED ENDURANCE.

A red line appears on an animation of Mars.
The line stretches between an area labelled ‘Landing Site’ and a crater labelled, ‘Endurance Crater’

The narrator continues, THERE, IN THE LAYERS OF ROCK
LINING THE CRATER RIM,
OPPORTUNITY FOUND EVIDENCE
THAT MARS
WAS ONCE A WARM
AND WET PLANET.

The young girl says, WOW!

The narrator says, NEXT, THE ROVER FOUND
A METEORITE,
THE FIRST SPOTTED
ON AN ALIEN WORLD.

A black and white image of the meteorite is shown.

The narrator continues, LATER IT NARROWLY ESCAPED
GETTING STUCK IN A SAND DUNE.

The young girl says, AND SURVIVED A DUST STORM.

Black and white footage of Opportunity travelling across Mars is shown.

The narrator says, ABOUT TWO AND A HALF YEARS
AFTER LANDING ON MARS,
THE ROVER REACHED
ANOTHER HUGE CRATER,
CALLED VICTORIA.

A red line on the animation leads from Endurance Crater to a crater labelled, ‘Victoria Crater’.

The narrator says, IT HAD ALREADY OUTLIVED
ITS ORIGINAL MISSION
BY ABOUT TWO YEARS.

The girl asks, BUT WHERE COULD IT GO NEXT?

The narrator says, FROM VICTORIA CRATER, IT TREKKED 20 KM ACROSS OPEN DESERT
TO THE GIGANTIC
ENDEAVOUR CRATER.

A line on the animation appears, leading to a crater labelled, ‘Endeavor Crater’.

The narrator continues, OPPORTUNITY HAD TRAVELLED
45 KILOMETRES
AND TAUGHT US A LOT ABOUT MARS.
BUT FINALLY, A MASSIVE DUST
STORM BLOTTED OUT THE SUN,
AND DUST COVERED UP
THE ROVER'S SOLAR PANELS.

Red dust from the surface of Mars covers large reflective solar panels on Opportunity.

The narrator says, ON JUNE 10TH, 2018,
WITH LITTLE POWER REMAINING,
OPPORTUNITY SENT ITS FINAL
MESSAGE TO EARTH.

A black and white image of outer space is shown.

The narrator continues, THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED
BEFORE THE FULL IMAGE WAS SENT,
LEAVING THE BOTTOM OF
THE IMAGE INCOMPLETE.
AND WITH THAT, OPPORTUNITY
WENT TO SLEEP, FOREVER.
IT'S MISSION OVER.
SLEEP TIGHT, OPPORTUNITY!

A woman sings,
I'M ON MY WAY,
ON MY WAY
TO OUTER SPACE.
