(Upbeat music playing)

Animated aliens are in a spaceship. Live-action children smile and wave.

Singing, BLYNK AND AAZOO, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU.

A diamond-shaped spaceship orbits a planet. Blynk, a spiky-haired green alien, works on a birdhouse. Aazoo, a tall red alien with three eyes, watches.

(Blynk and Aazoo noises)

Aazoo giggles and holds up a birdhouse roof.

(Blynk and Aazoo noises)

Blynk tries to get the roof, but Aazoo holds it out of reach.

M.A.V.I.S says, WELCOME TO DANCING WITH THE STAR SHIP. INCOMING INQUIRY, INQUIRY IS TRANSMITTING.

Blynk and Aazoo run to a screen. A live-action child with short black hair and glasses appears onscreen.

The black-haired child says, HI BLINK AND AZOO, MY NAME'S RUSHI.

Blynk and Aazoo wave.

Rushi asks, I WAS WONDERING, WHERE DO BIRDS SLEEP AT NIGHT?

(Blink and Aazoo chattering)

M.A.V.I.S says, BLINK AND AZOO ARE FORMULATING AN ANSWER. OR NOT. OH, THIS IS HAWKWARD. GET IT? HAWKWARD?

(Rushi laughs)

M.A.V.I.S says, INTERSTELLAR SCIENCE COUNCIL CALLING, CAPTAIN.

An adult with dark brown hair appears on a second screen and waves.

The brown-haired person says, HI BLINK AND AAZOO. HI RUSHI. I'M AARON, AND THAT'S A REALLY GREAT QUESTION.

Rushi says, THANKS!

Aaron says, MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT BIRDS JUST SLEEP IN THEIR NESTS AT NIGHT. BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE AT ALL. BLYNK? BRING UP THE BIRD FILES PLEASE. SUBCATEGORY: NEST MESS.

(Computer beeps)

A video shows baby birds in a nest.

Aaron narrates, NESTS ARE TEMPORARY AND USED ONLY FOR LAYING EGGS AND HATCHING THEM. BIRDS DON'T SLEEP IN THEM ONCE THEIR BABIES HAVE LEFT BECAUSE, BY THEN IT'S FALLING APART AND COVERED IN BIRD WASTE.

Rushi says, EW, NOW I GET WHY THEY WOULDN'T WANT TO SLEEP THERE. SO WHERE DO BIRDS SLEEP?

(Cawing)

A crow flies at night to a dead tree.

M.A.V.I.S says, BIRDS CHOOSE WHERE TO SPEND THE NIGHT BASED ON SAFETY.

Aaron says, THAT'S RIGHT, THEY NEED A PLACE THAT PROTECTS THEM, NOT JUST FROM BAD WEATHER BUT ALSO FROM PREDATORS.

A cat creeps over snow. A flock of crows take flight.

(Cawing)

M.A.V.I.S says, I HAVE LOCATED THREE EXAMPLES OF SAFE SLEEPING LOCATIONS.

Aaron says, A BIRDHOUSE, A CHIMNEY, AND A VERY HIGH BRANCH. YUP, THOSE WILL DO.

Rushi says, I UNDERSTAND THE BIRDHOUSE AND THE CHIMNEY, BUT HOW DOES A BIRD SLEEP ON A VERY HIGH BRANCH WITHOUT FALLING OFF?

(Blynk and Aazoo noises)

Aaron says, PERCHING BIRDS HAVE SPECIAL FEET THAT HELP WITH THAT. BLYNK?

(Typing noises)

M.A.V.I.S says, THESE BIRDS ARE CALLED PASSERINES.

Rushi says, PASSERINES.

M.A.V.I.S says, THEY MAKE UP ABOUT HALF OF ALL BIRD SPECIES.

Aaron says, YOU PROBABLY KNOW A BUNCH OF PERCHING BIRDS. LIKE CARDINALS, SPARROWS, AND JAYS.

Pictures of different birds appear.

Rushi says, OH YEAH, I LOVE BLUE JAYS. SO THEY HAVE SPECIAL FEET?

Aaron says, THEY DO! PASSERINES HAVE FOUR TOES ON EACH FOOT TO GRIP THE BRANCH. THREE TOES POINT FORWARD AND THE FOURTH TOE POINTS BACKWARDS.

M.A.V.I.S says, THEY ALSO HAVE A TENDON THAT LOCKS THE FOOT IN PLACE WHILE THEY SLEEP.

An illustration shows a bird’s foot with tendons.

Rushi says, SO THEY CAN'T FALL OFF! BUT YOU SAID THAT'S JUST FOR PERCHING BIRDS. WHERE DO OTHER KINDS OF BIRDS SLEEP?

Aaron says, WELL, BIGGER BIRDS CAN SLEEP ON THE GROUND UNDER THICK BUSHES AND EVEN IN THE WATER.

Rushi asks, HOW DO YOU SLEEP IN WATER?

M.A.V.I.S says, YES, WAT-ER THEY THINKING?

Aaron says, IT'S ACTUALLY VERY SMART. IF A PREDATOR APPROACHES, THE SPLASHING SOUNDS AND WAVE VIBRATIONS IN THE WATER WILL ACT AS AN INSTANT ALARM SYSTEM.

Rushi says, I'VE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT.

Aaron says, BUT THE MOST INTERESTING PLACE THAT BIRDS SLEEP IS UP IN THE AIR!

Swallows swoop across the sky.

Rushi asks, WHAT? HOW?

Aaron says, SWIFTS AND FRIGATES SLEEP IN THE AIR BY KEEPING ONE PART OF THEIR BRAIN AWAKE WHILE THE OTHER PART IS SLEEPING.

(Blynk and Aazoo noises)

Aazoo closes two eyes.

Rushi says, I THINK AAZOO IS TRYING TO HALF SLEEP.

Aaron says, NOT A GOOD IDEA, AAZOO. BETTER TO GET A FULL NIGHT'S SLEEP IN A SAFE PLACE.

(Blynk and Aazoo noises)

Rushi says, FLYING WHILE SLEEPING IS SO WEIRD. HEY! DO ANY OTHER ANIMALS SLEEP IN WEIRD WAYS?

Aaron says, LET'S SEE! BLYNK, ANIMAL FILES PLEASE. SUBCATEGORY: NAP, NAP, WHO'S THERE?

Bats hang from trees.

Aaron says, BATS SLEEP UPSIDE DOWN HANGING ON THEIR TALONS. SO THEY CAN FLY AWAY INSTANTLY WHENEVER THEY NEED TO.

M.A.V.I.S says, AAZOO ONCE ATTEMPTED TO DO THAT. IT DID NOT WORK OUT VERY WELL.

(Rushi laughing)

Two otters float together.

Aaron says, SEA OTTERS SLEEP FLOATING ON THEIR BACKS IN WATER, WHERE THE LAND-BASED PREDATORS CAN'T REACH THEM.

Rushi says, AWW, THEY'RE HOLDING HANDS.

Aaron says, GIRAFFES ARE SO TALL THEY CAN'T KEEP HIDDEN FROM PREDATORS. SO THEY DON'T SLEEP. INSTEAD, THEY NAP. SOMETIMES SITTING DOWN WITH THEIR HEADS RESTING ON THEIR BACKS, BUT OFTEN THEY SLEEP STANDING UP AND READY TO RUN.

Rushi asks, WAIT, DO HORSES SLEEP STANDING UP, TOO?

Aaron says, THEY DO! HORSES, ZEBRAS, AND COWS CAN ALL LOCK THEIR LEGS IN A STRAIGHT STANDING POSITION.

Rushi says, LIKE HOW BIRDS LOCK THEIR TENDONS. SO THEY DON'T FALL OFF BRANCHES!

Aaron says, EXACTLY!

Aazoo sways from side to side. Blynk catches Aazoo.

Rushi says, I WISH I COULD SLEEP STANDING UP.

Aaron says, WELL THEN, YOU MIGHT FIND THESE WAYS TO SLEEP FUN! BLYNK?

Blynk types.

Aaron says, IN JAPAN, YOU CAN SLEEP IN CAPSULE HOTELS. IN ROOMS SO TINY YOU CAN'T STAND UP.

People climb into beds built into walls.

Rushi says, WOW! THAT'S PRETTY SMALL.

Aaron asks, HOW ABOUT INSIDE A GIANT BIRD'S NEST THEN?

A bed is shaped like a round nest.

Rushi says, OH! THAT LOOKS COZY.

Aaron asks, OR HOW ABOUT SUSPENDED OFF THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN?

Enclosed pod beds are on a cliff face.

Rushi says, THAT'D BE SCARY. BUT EXCITING TOO!

M.A.V.I.S says, HUMANS ARE A VERY STRANGE SPECIES.

Aaron says, NOW HERE'S A COOL PLACE TO SLEEP: SPACE!

An astronaut moves through the air inside a space station.

Rushi says, THAT LOOKS LIKE THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION.

Aaron says, EXACTLY! THE ASTRONAUTS ARE WEIGHTLESS AND FLOAT INSIDE SPECIAL SLEEPING BAGS THAT KEEP THEM IN ONE SPOT.

Rushi says, WHOA! I COULD TOTALLY SLEEP THERE.

Blynk says, AHA!

M.A.V.I.S says, INSPIRATION DETECTED. INVENTION STATION IS READY, CAPTAIN.

(Upbeat music)

Blynk runs and pulls a lever.

(Machine noises)

Machinery turns. Blynk runs to Aazoo and drops a large fluffy pillow.

(Alien noises)

Aazoo jumps on the pillow, and it floats.

Rushi says, WHOA! BLINK MADE A CLOUD BED.

The cloud bed floats above Blynk. Lightning flashes and rain falls from the cloud bed.

Rushi says, UH OH! THE CLOUD IS RAINING ON BLYNK.

(Aazoo laughing)

M.A.V.I.S says, INVENTION ANALYSIS. FLOATING CLOUD BED: UNSUCCESSFUL. PORTABLE SHOWER: SUCCESSFUL.

Aazoo tosses soap to Blynk.

Rushi says, A PORTABLE SHOWER IS PRETTY COOL, BLYNK.

(Alien humming)

Blynk uses the soap to wash under the rain.

(Laughing)

Aaron and Rushi laugh.

Aaron says, BYE!

M.A.V.I.S says, THE QUEST FOR ANSWERS CONTINUES. ALL SYSTEMS ENGAGED.
