(Upbeat theme music)

Children in split screens wearing colorful aprons use pots, pans, bowls, spoons and other kitchen items as musical instruments. Food is prepared in some of the screens.
Photographs of prepared food dishes appear.

A title in colourful text between an animated fork and knife reads, “My World Kitchen”

A narrator says, WHOSE KITCHEN ARE
WE GOING TO TODAY?

A girl with short black hair wearing a purple dress opens a white front door to her house.

The girl says, HELLO, MY NAME IS HANNA.
WELCOME TO MY HOUSE, COME IN.
THIS IS MY MUM.

A black-haired woman wearing a colourful floral-patterned dress waves inside a brightly lit kitchen.

Hanna’s mum says, HELLO.

The narrator says, HI, MUM.

Hanna says, AND THIS IS MY KITCHEN.
TODAY I'M MAKING JAPANESE SUSHI
BECAUSE I LOVE IT.

Hanna stands behind a table topped with bowls, measuring cups and other food preparation items.

The narrator says, HANNA'S MUM HAS SHOWN HER A
SPECIAL WAY TO MAKE SUSHI
THAT'S GREAT FUN TO DO.

Hanna puts a plastic container of six eggs on the table and picks up a wooden spoon.

The narrator says, HANNA'S MUM'S JAPANESE AND
ORIGINALLY COMES FROM JAPAN.

A green arrow on a colourful map of the world points at Japan.

The narrator continues, JAPAN'S A COUNTRY IN ASIA WHICH
IS MADE UP OF LOTS OF ISLANDS.

A large city skyline is shown.

The narrator continues, IT HAS BUSY CITIES, AND
MOUNTAINOUS AREAS OF FLAT
FIELDS WHERE RICE IS GROWN.

Several small houses stand in the distance beyond a large wet rice field.

The narrator continues, RICE IS ONE OF THE MAIN CROPS
GROWN THERE, AND IT'S AN
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT IN ONE OF
THE MOST POPULAR DISHES IN
JAPAN, SUSHI, AND SOMETIMES
SPECIAL SUSHI RICE IS WRAPPED
IN A SHEET OF SEAWEED CALLED
NORI.

A woman rolls a long piece of sushi. Hanna washes her hands.

The narrator says, HANNA'S WASHED HER HANDS, PUT
ON HER APRON AND SHE'S READY TO
COOK.

Hanna says, I'M MAKING JAPANESE SUSHI FOR
MY FRIENDS.

The narrator says, AND SHE'S INVITED EVA,

A girl with long blonde hair, wearing an orange coat waves.

The narrator continues, AMEER,

A boy with short black hair, wearing a purple sweater waves.

The narrator continues, AND SOPHIE.

A girl with long brown hair, wearing a jean jacket waves.

The narrator continues, TO TASTE AN
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT BEFORE
THEY COME ROUND FOR A VERY
SPECIAL JAPANESE MEAL LATER.
WHAT'S THAT?

Eva sniffs a small square of seaweed.

Sophie says, IT SMELLS LIKE FISH.

Eva says, FEELS LIKE PAPER.

Ameer says, IT LOOKS LIKE A SNAKESKIN.

The narrator says, OH, IT'S DEFINITELY NOT SNAKE
SKIN.
COME ON, HAVE A GUESS.

The kids bite the seaweed.

Eva says, IT TASTES SALTY.

Sophie says, I THINK IT'S SEAWEED.

The narrator says, THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S NORI
SEAWEED.

Ameer says, I DON'T REALLY LIKE IT.

Sophie says, I DON'T LIKE IT.

The narrator says, OH, DEAR, BUT LET'S SEE IF
HANNA CAN CHANGE THEIR MINDS,
BECAUSE SEAWEED IS ONE OF THE
MAIN INGREDIENTS IN HER SUSHI.
YOU'LL ALSO NEED A CARROT,
MAYONNAISE, A RED PEPPER, EGGS,
SALT, HOT WATER, CUCUMBER, RICE
VINEGAR, SUSHI RICE, TINNED
TUNA, AND CASTER SUGAR.

The ingredients are shown on a table.

Hanna says, FIRST I NEED TO MEASURE THE
RICE THEN WASH IT.

The narrator says, JUST SCOOP SUSHI RICE INTO A
SIEVE OR RICE RINSER LIKE
HANNA'S, THEN RINSE IT TWICE IN
COLD WATER.

Hanna rinses rice over her kitchen sink.

Hanna says, NEXT I'M GOING TO POUR THE
RICE INTO THE BOWL.

The narrator says, AND ADD SOME COLD WATER.

Hanna says, MUM, CAN YOU PUT THIS IN THE
RICE COOKER?

Hanna’s mum puts a bowl of rice into a rice cooker.

The narrator says, HANNA'S MUM IS USING A
SPECIAL RICE COOKER TO COOK THE
SUSHI RICE, BUT YOU COULD COOK
IT AT HOME IN A NORMAL OVEN.
NOW CRACK AN EGG, CHECK FOR
SHELL, TIP INTO A BOWL, THEN DO
THE SAME WITH ANOTHER EGG.

Hanna cracks eggs into a small glass bowl.

The narrator says, AND DON'T FORGET TO WIPE YOUR
HANDS AFTER TOUCHING RAW EGG.
GIVE YOUR EGGS A MIX…

Hanna stirs the eggs with two chopsticks.

The narrator continues, AND POUR
INTO AN OILED LOAF TIN.

Hanna pours the eggs into a loaf tin.

Hanna says, MUM, CAN YOU GO AND PUT THIS
IN THE OVEN?

Hanna’s mum says, OH, WELL DONE, HANNA.

Hanna says, THANK YOU.

Hanna’s mum puts the eggs into an oven.

The narrator says, NOW FOR THE REST OF THE SUSHI
FILLINGS.

Hanna stirs mayonnaise into a bowl of tuna.

Hanna says, NOW, I'M GOING TO GET ONE
SPOONFUL OF MAYONNAISE AND STIR
IT IN THE TUNA.
THE MAIN DIFFERENCE ABOUT
JAPANESE FOOD AND ENGLISH FOOD
IS THAT JAPANESE FOOD HAS MORE
RICE AND FISH AND I THINK IT'S
TASTY.

The narrator says, TO MAKE YOUR RICE DRESSING
SPOON RICE VINEGAR, CASTER
SUGAR, AND A PINCH OF SALT INTO
A JUG, AND THEN GIVE IT ALL A
GOOD MIX.

Hanna mixes the ingredients in a measuring cup, then takes a red and white tea towel off a wooden bowl containing cooked rice.

The narrator says, THEN WHEN THE RICE IS COOKED
AND SLIGHTLY COOLED, POUR THE
VINEGAR DRESSING ALL OVER IT
AND STIR IT WITH A SPOON OR A
RICE PADDLE.

Hanna stirs the rice.

The narrator says, NOW, COVER THE RICE WITH A DAMP
TEA TOWEL FOR A WHILE.
WHEN THE EGGS ARE COOKED AND
COOLED CAREFULLY CUT THEM INTO
THIN STRIPS TO MAKE ONE OF YOUR
SUSHI FILLINGS.
HANNA'S GOING TO USE SLICED
CUCUMBER, PEPPER STRIPS, AND
GRATED CARROT AS WELL.

Hanna says, NOW, IT'S TIME FOR MY VERY
SPECIAL INGREDIENT.

The narrator says, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS,
DON'T YOU?
IT'S NORI SEAWEED.
SEAWEED IS A TYPE OF PLANT THAT
GROWS IN OCEANS ALL OVER THE
WORLD.

An animated scene shows a crab crawling past seaweed plants along a sandy ocean floor.

The narrator continues, THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT
TYPES OF SEAWEED AND THEY COME
IN ALL SORTS OF SHAPES AND
SIZES.
SOME WE CAN EAT, AND OTHERS WE
CAN'T.
NORI IS USUALLY MADE FROM RED
SEAWEED, WHICH IS SAFE TO EAT
AND VERY GOOD FOR US.

An animated girl with short black hair wearing a Japanese schoolgirl outfit of a white and blue dress with a large blue bow, smiles and holds a piece of nori.

The narrator says, WHEN IT'S CLEANED, DRIED, AND
MADE INTO NORI SHEETS IT TURNS
FROM RED TO GREEN, AND LOTS OF
PEOPLE USE IT TO MAKE SUSHI.

Animated sushi is shown over a grey background.

Hanna says, NOW, WE'RE GOING TO GET THE
SUSHI MAT AND PUT THE NORI ON.

The narrator says, AND MAKE SURE IT'S SHINY SIDE
DOWN.

Hanna says, TAKE THE DAMP TEA TOWEL OFF
AND DIP YOUR HANDS IN THE WATER.

The narrator says, THE WATER WILL STOP THE SUSHI
RICE STICKING TO YOUR FINGERS.
TAKE TWO HANDFULS AND PRESS IT
ONTO THE NORI SHEET, LEAVING A
GAP AT THE TOP.

Hanna spreads rice over a nori sheet. She puts thin strips of cucumber onto the rice.

The narrator says, FILL YOUR SUSHI WITH WHATEVER
YOU WANT.
HANNA'S USING SLICED CUCUMBER
AND TUNA MAYONNAISE FIRST.
DAB WATER ALONG THE TOP EDGE,
THEN ROLL UP YOUR MAT FROM THE
BOTTOM, SQUEEZING GENTLY AS YOU
GO.
GIVE IT ONE LAST SQUEEZE, AND
THERE IT IS.

Hanna says, AND NOW IT'S DONE, PUT IT AT
THE SIDE.

The narrator says, AH, LOOK AT THAT.
HANNA'S MAKING MORE, THIS TIME
SHE'S USING THE SLICED EGG,
GRATED CARROT, AND PEPPER.
BRILLIANT.

Hanna rolls a piece of sushi on a sushi mat.

The narrator says, JUST ROLL AND SQUEEZE AGAIN AND
MAKE AS MUCH SUSHI AS YOU'D
LIKE.

Hanna says, MUM, CAN YOU HELP ME?

The narrator says, AND WHEN YOU'RE DONE ASK A
GROWNUP TO CAREFULLY CUT THE
SUSHI FOR YOU.

Hanna’s mum cuts the long rolls of sushi into smaller bite-sized pieces.

The narrator says, SO, TO MAKE HANNA'S JAPANESE
SUSHI IN YOUR HOME, RINSE SUSHI
RICE WITH COLD WATER TWICE, AND
TIP THE DAMP RICE INTO A
CASSEROLE DISH.
ASK A GROWNUP TO POUR OVER HOT
WATER, COVER IN FOIL IN A TIGHT
FITTING LID, THEN PUT IT IN THE
OVEN.

A person wearing blue over mitts picks up a red casserole dish.

The narrator continues, CRACK AN EGG INTO A MUG,
CHECK IT FOR SHELL, TIP INTO A
BOWL, AND DO THE SAME WITH
ANOTHER EGG AND DON'T FORGET
TO WIPE YOUR HANDS AFTER
TOUCHING RAW EGG.

Raw eggs are stirred in a glass bowl.

The narrator continues,
BEAT THEM TOGETHER AND POUR
INTO AN OILED LOAF TIN, THEN
ASK A GROWNUP TO PUT THE EGGS
IN THE OVEN, TOO.
SPOON MAYONNAISE INTO A BOWL
OF TINNED TUNA AND GIVE IT A
MIX.

Mayonnaise is stirred into a bowl of tuna.

The narrator continues, NEXT ADD RICE VINEGAR,
CASTER SUGAR, THEN A PINCH
OF SALT TO A JUG AND GIVE IT A
GOOD MIX.
WHEN THE RICE IS COOKED AND
COOLED, POUR THE VINEGAR
DRESSING ALL OVER IT AND STIR,
THEN COVER WITH A DAMP TEA
TOWEL AND PUT TO ONE SIDE.

A piece of cooked eggs is cut into strips with scissors.

The narrator continues, CAREFULLY CUT THE COOKED AND
COOLED EGG INTO STRIPS, THEN
USE ANY FILLING YOU LIKE,
SLICED PEPPERS, CUCUMBER, AND
GRATED CARROT WORKS WELL.
NOW WET YOUR FINGERS AND PRESS
ABOUT TWO HANDFULS OF RICE
ONTO A NORI SEAWEED SHEET, LIKE
THIS, MAKING SURE THAT YOU
LEAVE A GAP AT THE TOP.

Rice is pressed onto a nori sheet.

The narrator continues, THEN ADD YOUR SUSHI FILLINGS.
FIRST CUCUMBER STRIPS AND TUNA
MAYONNAISE.
ROLL UP THE MAT AND SQUEEZE IT
TOGETHER.
DAB THE TOP EDGE WITH WATER AND
FINISH ROLLING AND SQUEEZING.

A rolled-up piece of sushi is removed from a sushi mat.

The narrator continues, WHY NOT TRY THE EGG, GRATED
CARROT, AND SLICED PEPPER?
AND JUST ROLL THEM UP IN
EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.
MAKE AS MANY SUSHI ROLLS AS YOU
WANT AND ASK A GROWN-UP TO CUT
THEM INTO PIECES FOR YOU.
NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR HANNA TO GET THE TABLE
READY FOR HER VERY SPECIAL
JAPANESE SUSHI MEAL.

Hanna says, IN JAPAN PEOPLE PUT HOT
TOWELS ON THE TABLE.

Hanna places three small white towels beside a banzai tree in the middle of a dining room table.

(Doorbell ringing)

The narrator says, AH, THAT'S HANNA'S FRIENDS.
WELL DONE, HANNA, YOUR JAPANESE
THEMED TABLE LOOKS FANTASTIC.

Yellow and orange paper balls hang over the dining room table, which is set with white plates on bamboo placemats with orange cups and napkins.
Hanna opens her front door.

Hanna’s friends wave and say, HI, HANNA!

Hanna bows and says, KONNICHIWA.

The narrator says, KONNICHIWA.
THAT MEANS HELLO IN JAPANESE.
NOW, EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR
HANDS AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.

Hanna draws back a curtain over a doorway leading to the dining room. The kids enter.

Sophie says, WOW!

Ameer says, WOW, THIS IS COOL.

The narrator says, I THINK THEY'RE IMPRESSED.

Hanna asks, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Sophie says, I LIKE THESE ORANGE CUPS,
THEY LOOK LIKE CRYSTALS ON THE
CUPS.

Ameer asks, HANNA, WHAT ARE THESE?

Hanna says, THEY'RE WARM TOWELS TO CLEAN
YOUR HANDS BEFORE EATING.
TAKE ONE.

The narrator says, AND THAT'S VERY TRADITIONAL
IN JAPAN.

The kids wipe their hands.

Hanna asks, GUYS, ARE YOU READY TO EAT?

Sophie and Ameer say, YEAH!

Hanna’s mum enters the dining room with sushi rolls on a round wooden tray.

The narrator says, OOH, AND HERE COMES MUM WITH
THE LOVELY JAPANESE SUSHI.

Sophie says, MM, THAT LOOKS NICE.

The narrator says, WELL DONE, HANNA!
YOUR SUSHI LOOKS WONDERFUL, AND
ALL THOSE TASTY FILLINGS MAKE
IT EXTRA COLOURFUL.
YUM.

Hanna says, LET'S EAT.

The narrator says, IS THIS MAKING YOU FEEL
HUNGRY?

The kids pick up sushi rolls from the tray.

The narrator says, EARLIER TODAY HANNA'S FRIENDS
WEREN'T SURE ABOUT THE TASTE OF
NORI SEAWEED.
DO YOU THINK THEY'LL CHANGE
THEIR MINDS WHEN THEY TRY IT IN
HER JAPANESE SUSHI?

A sushi roll is dipped into a small green bowl of soy sauce.

The narrator says, OH, LOOK.
SOY, THE PERFECT SAUCE TO GO
WITH HANNA'S SUSHI.

Hanna asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Sophie says, THIS IS GOOD SUSHI.

Ameer says, I REALLY LIKE THE CARROT
BECAUSE CARROTS ARE MY
FAVOURITE.

Eva says, I LOVE IT.
I LIKE THE SEAWEED AND THE RICE
TOGETHER.

Hanna asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SPECIAL
INGREDIENT IS?

Sophie says, STICKY RICE.

Ameer says, I THINK IT'S SEAWEED.

Eva says, SEAWEED AS WELL.

Hanna says, IT'S THE SEAWEED.

Eva bites a sushi roll.

Hanna asks, DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE OF
SEAWEED IN MY SUSHI?

Ameer says, IT TASTES NICE.

Sophie says, I LIKE IT A LITTLE BIT BETTER
THAN LAST TIME.

Ameer says, TASTES EVEN BETTER THAN
BEFORE.

The narrator says, WELL DONE, HANNA.
IT LOOKS LIKE THEY DO LIKE THE
TASTE OF NORI SEAWEED AFTER
ALL.

Hanna says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO
MY WORLD KITCHEN.
