Text reads “A Sky Original.”

[Pencil scribbles]

[Energetic music plays]

A stick drawing of a boy with black hair sits at a desk. A band plays instruments.

A boy sings, MAKE IT, SING IT,
DRAW IT, SAY IT
THIS HOW DOG ZOMBIES
PLAY IT.

DOODLE MONSTER,
FURRY CREATURE,
DRAW A PICTURE
OF MY TEACHER.

I LIKE WAFERS
THEY RE THE BEST!
MARCUS MELDREW’S
NOT IMPRESSED.

A boy with curly hair crosses his arms.

Tom sings, GRANNIE’S CUSTARD'S
VERY LUMPY,
DELIA IS ALWAYS GRUMPY.

Tom holds up a bowl of lumpy custard. A girl with long dark hair and sunglasses looks uphappy.

Tom sings, I‘M TOM GATES,
THAT’S MY NAME
SO JOIN IN WITH
MY FAVOURITE GAMES.

Tom runs on a long blue path.

He sings, GET READY BECAUSE
HERE WE GO.
WELCOME TO MY
BRILLIANT SHOW.

Text reads “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. Created by Liz Pichon.”

Tom says, IN THIS BRILLIANT SHOW...
PLAY THE DOODLE GAME WITH ME
AND MY BEST FRIEND DEREK,
CHECK OUT MY TOP FIVE
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS,
AND SING ALONG TO A SONG
ABOUT A PESKY CAT!

Voices sing, WELCOME TO MY
BRILLIANT SHOW!

Text reads “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. Created by Liz Pichon.”

[Chimes]

Tom stands in front of a red background. He has short black hair.

Tom says, HI, I’M TOM GATES,
AND THIS IS MY BEST FRIEND DEREK.

[Drum rimshot]

A boy with short hair slides on his knees, then stands beside Tom.

Derek says, HELLO!

Derek and Tom high five.

[Hands slap]

Tom says, WE GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL
BUT WE RE NOT IN THE SAME CLASS.

[Children shout]

A red arrow points to a purple school with large yellow doors.

[Guitar music plays]

Tom says, BUT THAT S OK,
BECAUSE DEREK PLAYS
KEYBOARD IN MY BAND:
DOG ZOMBIES!

Text reads “Dog Zombies.”

[Dog howl]

Tom smiles as he plays a guitar. Derek plays a keyboard. He and Tom wear sunglasses as they play.

A fence stretches between two two-story houses.

Tom says, WE'RE PRETTY CLOSE,
I MEAN LITERALLY.
LOOK...

Tom and Derek stand by windows and wave to each other.

[Pop]

Tom says, WE LIKE TO PLAY GAMES AND TRY
TO MAKE EACH OTHER LAUGH.
MOSTLY WHEN WE SHOULD BE IN BED.

[Upbeat music plays]

Tom says, THERE’S DEREK NOW.

Derek smiles as he pretends to walk down stairs.

[Chuckle]

Tom says, SEE WHAT I MEAN?
YEAH, HE S REALLY GOOD AT THAT
WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS THING.

Derek knocks over a lamps and catches it. He smiles.

Tom says, AND WE HAVE A GREAT DOODLE GAME.
LET’S PLAY IT!

Text reads “Play-it!”

Tom holds a piece of paper and a pencil as he stands by the window.

He says, OK.
DEREK TRIES TO GUESS
WHAT I’M DRAWING
BEFORE I VE FINISHED.
SEE IF YOU CAN GUESS
WHAT IT IS TOO.

[Funky music plays]

[Pencil scribbles]

Tom draws a circle and adds a frowning face. He draws freckles on each side
of the nose.

Tom asks, HAVE YOU GUESSED WHO IT IS YET?
HERE’S A CLUE: HE’S IN MY CLASS
AND HE’S PRETTY GRUMPY.

Derek says, I KNOW WHO THIS IS, UM,
IT'S MARCUS MELDREW!

Tom says, MARCUS MELDREW,
THAT'S RIGHT!

[Chime]

Tom says, THAT WAS A BIT EASY
WITH THE GRUMPY FACE.
LET'S DO ANOTHER ONE.

[Funky music plays]

[Pencil scribbles]

Tom says, YOU'LL NEVER GET THIS.
NEITHER WILL DEREK.

Derek mumbles, UM, ER, THAT UM...

[Pencil scribbles]

Steam rises from a rectangle on a fork.

[Chime]

Tom says, YEP. IT’S A CHIP ON A FORK.

Derek says, IT’S A CHIP ON A FORK!
IT'S A CHIP ON A FORK!

Tom puts his hand beside his ear and leans towards the shut window.

Tom says, I THINK HE SAID CHIP
ON A FORK, IT S HARD TO TELL.
WE CAN'T REALLY HEAR EACH OTHER.

SEE YOU TOMORROW!

Tom waves.

Derek replies, I VE GOT BLUE SOCKS ON!

Derek walks away from the window. Tom shrugs.

[Crickets chirp]

Tom says, NOPE. NO IDEA.

Tom jumps into bed.

He says, TIME FOR BED.

[Bed squeaks, Tom yawns, snoring]

[Funky music plays]

A cat walks between the two houses.

[Snoring]

The cat meows. It jumps up on the fence and clears its throat.

[Cat wails]

[Violin plays]

Tom says, OH NO.

The cat uses its tail as a microphone as it sings.

[Cat wails]

[Violin plays]

The hands on a clock spin quickly.

[Funky music, ringing bell]

[Children cheer]

Tom rests his head on his hand. He looks sleepy.

Mr. Fullerman says, MORNING CLASS.
IF YOU TURN YOUR TEXTBOOKS
TO PAGE ONE OR TWO…

[Tom yawns, snoring]

Tom says, NORMALLY, MR FULLERMAN
HAS TO BE TALKING
A BIT LONGER THAN THIS
TO SEND ME TO SLEEP,
BUT I M JUST SO TIRED TODAY.
THANKS TO THAT
PESKY SINGING CAT.

[Cat wails]

A girl with long hair parted in pigtails sits beside Tom. She notices as he
drools in his sleep.

Amy says, URRR.
PSST - WAKE UP TOM.
PSST - TOM. WAKE UP!

Marcus sits on Tom’s left. He notices a puddle of drool beneath Tom’s face. Marcus raises his hand.

[Whoosh]

Marcus says, SIR! SIR!
TOM’S ASLEEP AND DRIBBLING.

[Keyboard notes play]

A bug holds an arrow sign pointing at the drool.

The bug giggles, HEHE.

Tom says, AWW, SO EMBARRASSING.
AMY SEEN ME DROOLING.

Tom rubs the puddle of drool with his elbow.

[Squeaking]

He says, THIS COULD EASILY MAKE ITS WAY
INTO MY MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENTS.

The number five appears.

Tom says, HERE'S THE CURRENT TOP FIVE:

AT NUMBER FIVE,
SMILING AT AMY
WITH FOOD IN MY TEETH.

[Slide whistle]

The number four appears.

Tom says, AT FOUR,
DOING AN IMPRESSION
OF MR FULLERMAN...
AND BEING CAUGHT
BY MR FULLERMAN!

IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD
IMPRESSION... UNFORTUNATELY.

Mr. Fullerman looks angry.

[Slide whistle]

The number three appears.

Tom says, AT THREE,
THAT TIME I HAD INK BLOBS
ON MY FACE ALL DAY
AND NOBODY TOLD ME!
I SHOULD HAVE REALISED.

Fingers point at Tom.

[Plop]

The number two appears.

Tom’s mother holds a backpack and waves.

Tom says, AT NUMBER TWO,
THAT TIME MY MUM
BROUGHT MY P.E. KIT IN,
AND IT WAS ANNOUNCED
TO THE ENTIRE SCHOOL
BY MRS. MUMBLE!

[Static]

Mrs. Mumble says, WILL TOM GATES
COME TO THE OFFICE?
HIS MUM IS HERE
WITH HIS SHORTS FOR P.E.

[Slide whistle]

Tom says, AND AT NUMBER ONE,
ACCIDENTALLY CALLING
MRS WORTHINGTON "MUM"
IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS!

In a flashback, Tom blushes.

Tom says, MUM…I MEAN MRS WORTHINGTON!

THANKS TO THAT PESKY CAT,
I M PRETTY SURE
FALLING ASLEEP IN CLASS
WILL BE GOING STRAIGHT IN
AT THE TOP.

Mr. Fullerman says, NOW CLASS,
ARE YOU READY
FOR SOMETHING FUN?

Tom says, DON’T GET TOO EXCITED,
MR FULLERMAN THINKS
HOMEWORK IS FUN!

Mr. Fullerman says, IT’S TIME FOR
MAKE IT!

[Pop]

Tom says, I TAKE IT BACK. BRILLIANT!
MAKE IT!

[Pop]

Text reads “Make-it”

Animated arrows point to a grey clay cat.

Tom says, THIS IS HOW TO MAKE YOUR
VERY OWN PESKY CAT!

[Funky music plays]

Tom says, YOU WILL NEED...
SOME AIR DRYING CLAY,
SOME TOOTHPICKS,

[Pop, pop, pop]

Animated arrows point at three toothpicks and grey clay.

A doodle says, BE CAREFUL
WITH TOOTHPICKS!

Text on a sign reads “Be careful with toothpicks!”

A pen appears.

Tom says, AND A PEN.

A bug asks, AND A GLUE STICK?

Tom says, SORRY. MAYBE NEXT TIME.

The bug says, ALRIGHT...

[Squeaking as the bug drags the glue stick]

Tom says, THERE WE GO.
THAT S EVERYTHING YOU NEED.

A green monster holds a timer.

[tick, tick]

Tom asks, GOT ALL OF THAT YET?

[Bell rings]

Tom says, GREAT. TAKE YOUR CLAY,
CUT IT IN HALF.

[Whoosh]

Tom says, TAKE A SMALL PIECE OFF ONE SIDE
AND SAVE IT FOR LATER.

USE YOUR HANDS TO ROLL
EACH SIDE INTO A BALL.

USE THE SMALLER BALL
TO MAKE... A HEAD!
PINCH THE CLAY BETWEEN
YOUR FINGERS TO MAKE THE EARS.

[Squeak, squeak]

Tom says, PINCH OFF A SMALL PIECE
OF THE CLAY TO MAKE THE NOSE.

[Whoosh, whoop, whoop, squeak]

Tom says, GRAB A TOOTHPICK,

The doodle says, BE CAREFUL
WITH TOOTHPICKS!

The text on a sign reads “Be careful with toothpicks.”

[Pop, woo woo woo]

Tom says, AND DRAW A MOUTH.
BRING BACK THE OTHER BALL,
YEP, THAT S THE BODY!

The clay cat turns.

[Squeak]

Tom asks, REMEMBER THE CLAY
YOU SAVED FOR LATER?

An animated arrow points to the clay.

[Pop]

Tom says, ROLL IT UP
AND YOU VE GOT A TAIL.

The tail attaches to the body.

[Pop, whoosh]

Tom says, OK. NOW IT S TIME
TO LET YOUR CAT DRY.

CHECK THE CLAY INSTRUCTIONS
TO SEE HOW LONG IT NEEDS.
USUALLY OVERNIGHT
OR A FEW HOURS.

Hands move on a clock.

[Tick, tick, ring]

Tom says, RIGHT. TAKE YOUR PEN,
COLOUR IN THE NOSE.

[Pop, pop, pop, whoosh]

DRAW A LITTLE LINE TO HIS MOUTH,
TWO EYES, EYEBROWS, EARS,
AND OF COURSE, SOME WHISKERS.
AWESOME! I LOVE IT!

AND IF YOUR CAT
IS FEELING LONELY,
YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE
SOME CAT FRIENDS.

Red, blue, yellow, purple, white, green, black and orange clay cats appear.

[Cats meow]

Tom says, OR EVEN TRY A CLAY MONSTER!

[Growling]

Voices sing, WELCOME TO MY
BRILLIANT SHOW!

Text reads “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates.”

GOT HOME FROM SCHOOL,
DID NOT DO MY HOMEWORK.
ATE FISH FINGERS,
SOME OF DAD’S BISCUITS,
AND WENT TO MY ROOM.

Tom lies on his bed, reading.

[Cat wails]

Tom says, OH NO.
THAT PESKY CAT IS BACK
FOR ANOTHER PAW-FORMANCE.

[Cat wails]

[Dog barks]

A dog chases the cat.

Tom says, THAT’S DEREK S DOG, ROOSTER.

[Energetic music plays]

[Dog barks]

Tom says, WHAT A CHAMP.

[Dog barks]

Tom says, GOOD BOY ROOSTER. GOOD BOY.

[Energetic music plays]

Text reads “Draw it.”

Tom says, IF YOU LIKE ROOSTER
THEN YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THIS!

A woman with long brown hair holds a marker.

Liz says, HI, I’M LIZ,
AND I WRITE AND DRAW
ALL OF THE TOM GATES BOOKS.
AND TODAY I M GOING TO SHOW YOU
HOW TO DRAW ROOSTER.

NOW ROOSTER IS DEREK'S DOG,
AND DEREK IS TOM'S BEST MATE.

[Chimes]

Liz says, FIRST OF ALL TAKE YOUR PEN
AND LET'S DRAW A CIRCLE.

[Marker scratches]

She says, HIS EARS LOOK A BIT LIKE CLOUDS.

[Funky music plays, marker scratches]

Liz draws Rooster the dog.

Liz says, I'M NOT ENTIRELY SURE WHAT KIND
OF DOG ROOSTER ACTUALLY IS.
I JUST SORT OF MADE HIM UP.

[Marker scratches]

Tom says, WOW, THAT'S COOL!

Liz says, NOW I'M GOING TO
DRAW THE CAT.

SO AGAIN START OFF
WITH A CIRCLE,
TWO EARS...

[Funky music plays, marker scratches]

Liz says, AND LET'S DRAW HIS TAIL.
NOW I'M GOING TO DRAW
THE CAT'S EYES.

[Funky music plays, marker scratches]

Liz draws a cat.

Liz says, THE CAT'S GOT REALLY BIG EYES
AND HE'S LOOKING AT ROOSTER.

SO WHAT I'M GOING TO DO...
I'M GOING TO DRAW THE INSIDE
OF HIS EYES WITH A DOT,
AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE
LOOKING AT ROOSTER.

[Funky music plays, marker scratches]

Liz says, I'M GOING TO SWAP...

AND I'M GOING TO USE A PENCIL,
AND THEN I'M GOING TO ADD
SOME SHADOWS UNDERNEATH.
LIKE THAT.

Liz creates small shadows beneath the paws of the dog and cat.

[Funky music plays, marker scratches]

She says, AND THEN I'M GOING TO DRAW
SOME MOVEMENT LINES.

Tom says, GREAT STUFF.

Liz says, SO IT LOOKS A BIT LIKE
ROOSTER'S REALLY CHASING
THE CAT THERE.

[Pencil scratches]

Liz says, YEAH, I THINK
THAT'S FINISHED NOW.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT.
THERE'S ROOSTER AND THE CAT.

Rooster chases the cat.

[Dog barks, cat meows]

Voices sing, WELCOME TO MY
BRILLIANT SHOW!

Text reads “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates.”

Tom says, THAT PESKY CAT
IS BACK AGAIN.

The cat taunts Rooster from the top of the fence.

[Cat meowing]

Tom says, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR SING-IT.

Text reads “Sing-it.”

[Upbeat music plays]

Tom sings, I'M AS QUIET AS A MOUSE.
I MAKE MY HOME IN
SOMEONE ELSE'S HOUSE.

I'M NOT FUSSY
ANY PLACE WILL DO.

IF IT'S WARM
I LIKE A PLACE WITH FOOD.

YOU WON'T HEAR ME
TAKING A STROLL,

STRAIGHT THROUGH THE FLOWERS
JUMP ON A WALL.

OVER THE GRASS,
HEY I DON'T CARE.

I'M AWAKE IN THE DARK
AND ASLEEP IN THE DAY.

WHERE I LEAVE MY FUR,
I'LL MAKE A HOME THERE.

CAUSE HEY! I'M A CAT.
I'M A CAT, KITTY CAT

I HAVE FUR, I LIKE MILK
AND I LIKE TO PURR.

HEY! DON'T MESS WITH ME.
I'M A CAT, KITTY CAT.

I'M ON THE PROWL,
I'LL SIT OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE
AND I'LL YOWL.

I CAN PICK A FIGHT,
WITH ANY CAT,
WHO STRAYS AT NIGHT,
AND GIVES IT ALL THAT.

AND IF I'M HUNGRY,
HAVE YOU HEARD?
A CAT LIKE ME,
WOULD EAT A BIRD

[Bird tweets]

Tom sings, OR MAYBE I MIGHT
EAT SOME MEAT,
I LIKE A TASTY LITTLE TREAT.

A RAT IS NICE,
I LIKE MICE TOO.
IT'S ONE FOR ME,
AND TWO FOR YOU

Text reads “One for me, two for you. Hey.”

Tom says, HEY! I'M A CAT.
I'M A CAT, KITTY CAT.

WITH JUST A FEW FLEAS,
I DRINK MILK
AND DO WHAT I PLEASE.

Text reads “Hey.”

Tom sings, HEY! I'LL BE
YOUR BEST FRIEND.
I'M A CAT, KITTY CAT

IF THERE'S FOOD IN THE POT,
ONCE IT'S GONE
I'LL BE OFF LIKE A SHOT.

[Gun ricochet sound]

Tom sings, AND IF I GO MISSING,
JUST DO ME A BIG FAVOUR.
DON'T MAKE A BIG SCENE,
CAUSE' NOW I LIVE
WITH YOUR NEIGHBOUR!

Tom says, NOW I CAN GET SOME SLEEP!
THAT SINGING CAT HAS
FINALLY MOVED ON.

[Cat wails]

Tom says, TO THE TREE IN DEREK'S GARDEN!

[Cat wails]
