Animated versions of the sun and the planets spin and smile.

Singing, TO THE MOON AND BACK.

Little Malabar says, HA-HA!

Singing, I JUMP ON EVERY PLANET AND EVERY STAR. C'MON, LET'S GO FAR EXPLORE THE WHOLE UNIVERSE, LITTLE MALABAR.

A title reads: Little Malabar. Directed by Patrick Volve.

Text reads: Chimneys at the bottom of the ocean. Written by Valerie Magis and Jean Duprat. Storyboard by Geoffrey Triacca.

A narrator says, CHIMNEYS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN.

Little Malabar sits on a beach, putting on swim fins. He has blonde hair and wears blue shorts. A mole in swim goggles pops out of the sand.

Little Malabar says, HM? OH, HELLO LITTLE MOLE. DO YOU WANT TO SWIM UNDER THE WATER WITH ME?

Little Malabar and the mole jump in the water.

Little Malabar says, AND HERE WE GO!

(Music playing)

Little Malabar says, WOW! YOU SEE THAT, LITTLE MOLE, ALL THE FISH AND THE TURTLES?

Little Malabar and the mole follow a crab.

Little Malabar says, LOOK THERE, LOTS OF SHELLS AND CORAL.

The crab crawls down a cliff.

Little Malabar says, WHOA, LOOKS LIKE IT'S SUPER DEEP DOWN THERE!

A whale swims by.

(Whale moaning)

Little Malabar says, HELLO, SPERM WHALE. CAN YOU TAKE US TO SEE THE ANIMALS THAT LIVE DOWN THERE?

(Whale moaning)

Little Malabar and the mole sit on the whale’s back. The whale dives deeper in the water.

Little Malabar says, HELLO, OCTOPUSES! WOO-HOO!

It grows darker.

Little Malabar says, OH WOW, IT'S DARK. IT'S LIKE SOMEONE TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF HERE. HUH?

A fish glows.

(Giggles)

Little Malabar says, THAT FISH IS CLEVER. LET'S DO THE SAME THING!

Little Malabar and the mole put flashlights on their heads.

Little Malabar says, AH, THAT'S BETTER! THERE'S NO ONE DOWN HERE, NOT EVEN ONE FISH. NOBODY. LET'S GO UP, MR. WHALE.

The whale changes direction and Little Malabar and the mole tumble off its back. The mole’s flashlight falls off and slowly sinks.

Little Malabar says, WHOA! DON'T YOU WORRY, LITTLE MOLE. WE'LL FIND YOUR FLASHLIGHT!

Little Malabar swims to the ocean floor. He picks up the flashlight and puts it back on the mole.

Little Malabar says, THERE YOU GO!

Little Malabar turns.

Little Malabar says, WHOA! IT'S LIKE A DESERT IN THE DARK.

(Shivers)

Little Malabar says, IT'S VERY COLD.

(Chuckling)

A voice says, COME OVER THIS WAY.

Two voices say, IT'S NICE AND WARM NEAR US.

Little Malabar asks, DID YOU HEAR THAT, LITTLE MOLE? THERE'S SOMEONE OVER THERE.

Rock formations rise up from the ocean’s floor.

A rock vent says, HELLO, THERE. WELCOME TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN, IN THE ABYSS. WE ARE HYDROTHERMAL VENTS.

Little Malabar says, WOW! THERE ARE CHIMNEYS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN?

A large vent says, YES. WE SPIT OUT THE HEAT THAT RISES FROM EARTH'S DEEPEST INSIDES. SO COME AND WARM UP NEXT TO US.

(Mole excited squeaking)

Little Malabar says, YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S REALLY WARM HERE NEXT TO YOU. BUT DON'T YOU GET BORED ALL ALONE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN?

The large vent says, ALL ALONE? US?

(Chuckles)

The large vent says, WE'RE NOT ALONE!

Another vent says, LOOK A LITTLE DEEPER, AND YOU WILL SEE.

Little Malabar swims along the ocean floor. Creatures cling to the base of the rock vents.

Little Malabar says, WOW! OH, WHAT FUNNY WORMS! AND A HAIRY CRAB.

(Giggles)

Little Malabar says, THERE ARE LOTS OF ANIMALS HERE.

A rock vent says, THAT'S RIGHT. AND ALL THESE ANIMALS LIVE AND STAY CLOSE TO US.

The large vent says, IT'S THANKS TO OUR WARMTH. THEY COULDN'T LIVE ELSEWHERE.

Little Malabar says, AHH... YOU SEE, MOLE, HOW NICE AND WARM IT IS NEXT TO THE HYDROTHERMAL VENTS?

Tiny voices say, OH, YES! AND WE'RE THE FIRST WHO CAME TO GET WARM NEXT TO THEM!

Little Malabar says, BUT WHO'S TALKING?

The tiny voices say, WE ARE! THE BACTERIA INSIDE HERE.

The mole pokes at a vent.

Little Malabar says, WHOA! BE CAREFUL, LITTLE MOLE. IT'S HOT.

The tiny voice say, HELLO, WE ARE TINY BACTERIA!

The bacteria continue, AND WE LIVE HERE, INSIDE THE CHIMNEYS OF THE HYDROTHERMAL VENTS!

Little Malabar says, HELLO, BACTERIA. AREN'T YOU TOO HOT INSIDE THE CHIMNEY?

The bacteria says, NOT AT ALL!

One says, WE LOVE THE HEAT!

Another says, WE'RE USED TO IT NOW. WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS.

(Giggles)

The bacteria says, WE ARE AMONG THE FIRST LIVING BEINGS ON EARTH.

Little Malabar says, WOW! WHOOPS, MY LIGHT HAS GONE OUT. WE HAVE TO GO BACK UP NOW, LITTLE MOLE.

The bacteria asks, ARE YOU LEAVING ALREADY?

Little Malabar says, WELL, YES. WE LIVE UP IN THE LIGHT OF THE SUN. HE WARMS US UP, TOO. SEE YOU LATER, BACTERIA.

The bacteria says, GOODBYE, LITTLE MALABAR.

The vents say, GOODBYE, MOLE. COME BACK AND SEE US!

Little Malabar and the mole swim upwards.

Little Malabar lies on the beach, wearing sunglasses and sipping from a coconut.

Little Malabar says, AH, THE LIGHT AND THE WARMTH OF THE SUN ARE THE BEST.

The mole jumps into a burrow.

Little Malabar says, WELL, EXCEPT FOR LITTLE MOLES WHO PREFER TO BE IN THE COOL AND DARK.

(Giggles)

The narrator says, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEANS, WHERE THERE IS NO LIGHT, ANIMALS LIVE NEAR VERY WARM HYDROTHERMAL VENTS FILLED WITH BACTERIA. LIFE EXISTS IN THE MOST UNEXPECTED PLACES.
