The narrator says, LOOKS LIKE WE'RE READY.
LET'S GO!

Yaharra hits the golf ball.

(Upbeat music plays)

An animated sun waves. Over colourful art on a brick wall are different pictures of children. Under the animated sun, text reads, Sunny’s Quest.

On a backyard deck, Yaharra says, HI, MY NAME IS YAHARRA AND I'M
11 YEARS OLD AND I LIVE
IN WHITBY,
ONTARIO WITH MY MOM, MY DAD, MY
BROTHER AND MY DOG YOBI.

Yaharra sits with her family and dog. A map shows the location of Whitby.

On a bed, Yaharra says, MY MOM IS FROM THE COMMONWEALTH
OF DOMINICA AND THAT IS A SMALL
ISLAND LOCATED AROUND THE
CARIBBEAN SEA.

Yaharra shows the location of the island on a globe ball. The map shows the islands location.

Yaharra says, MY DAD'S BACKGROUND IS FROM
JAMAICA.

The map shows Jamaica’s location.

Yaharra says, THE JAMAICAN FLAG LOOKS LIKE
THIS.

The Jamaican flag is displayed.

Yaharra says, IT HAS THE COLOURS YELLOW, BLACK
AND GREEN.
YELLOW REPRESENTS SUNSHINE.
THE BLACK REPRESENTS HARDSHIPS.
AND THE GREEN REPRESENTS THE
LAND.
AND THIS IS THE COMMONWEALTH OF
DOMINICA'S FLAG.

The flag is displayed.

Yaharra says, IT HAS A RED CIRCLE BEARING A
SISSEROU PARROT ENCIRCLED BY 10
LIME GREEN STARS.

She stands by golf clubs in her room.

Yaharra says, THIS IS MY ROOM WHERE I KEEP ALL
MY STUFF AND I SPEND A LOT OF
TIME IN HERE.

She smiles.

She says, I SPEND SOME TIME DOING SOME
ARTS AND CRAFTS ONCE IN A WHILE
BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT COULD BE
REALLY FUN.
THESE ARE MY BLACK DOLLS.

Yaharra points to one of her dolls.

She says, THIS IS ACTUALLY MY DRESS THAT
SHE'S WEARING FROM WHEN I WAS A
BABY.

A picture shows Yaharra as a baby wearing a black and white leopard dress.

Yaharra says, THIS IS MY DESK AND THIS IS
WHERE I SPEND A LOT OF TIME
SOLVING THE RUBIK'S CUBE AND
CALLING WITH MY FRIENDS ON MY
LAPTOP.

She holds a Rubik’s cube.

She says, GUESS HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO
SOLVE THIS.
YOU DO IT BY ROWS.
THE LAST ROW IS HARDER BECAUSE
YOU CAN END UP IN DIFFERENT
WAYS.

Yaharra solves the Rubik’s cube and grins.

She says, SOLVED IT.

The animated sun puts on a crown and smiles.

Yaharra says, MY RECORD IS 1 MINUTE AND 23
SECONDS.

She stands between her desk and golf clubs.

She says, I REALLY LIKE TO PLAY GOLF AND
THESE ARE MY GOLF CLUBS.
THIS PIG IS ACTUALLY TO COVER IT.

Yaharra pulls the pig cover off her driver.

She says, AND THIS CLUB IS QUITE LONG SO
IT'S FOR VERY BIG SWINGS.

Outside, Yaharra wears a hat, polo shirt and shorts. She wears a golf glove and holds a club.

WHO ARE PRO GOLFERS IN CANADA
AND I WANT TO BE ONE OF THE
FIRST.

An animated golf ball flies past Yaharra. Yaharra stands beside a man holding a golf club.

Yaharra says, THIS IS MY GOLF INSTRUCTOR
CAMERON.

Cameron waves. Text reads, Cameron, Golf Coach.

Yaharra says, I DO A CAMP ONCE A WEEK TO HELP
MY TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGIES SO
THAT MAYBE ONE DAY I COULD
BECOME A PROFESSIONAL.

Yaharra gets ready to hit a golf ball.

Cameron says, FOCUS ON THE QUARTER
AND THE HALF.
QUARTER LOOKS LIKE WHAT?

Yaharra says, JUST LIKE THIS.

She demonstrates a swing.

Cameron says, GOOD.

Yaharra says, TO BE A GOLF PLAYER I THINK IT
TAKES A LOT OF PATIENCE BECAUSE
SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT NOT HIT THE
BALL RIGHT.

She hits the ball with her driver. It rolls a few feet away.

Yaharra says, NO.
THAT HIT THE SIDE.

She hits another ball. The animated sun waves and winks. Yaharra hits more golf balls with her clubs.

Cameron says, YAHARRA, GREAT
PRACTICE.

Yaharra says, THANK YOU.

She and Cameron high five.

In a kitchen, Yaharra says, TODAY WE'RE MAKING BAKES WHICH
IS A DOMINICAN DISH I ENJOY
EATING.

Text reads, Dominican Bakes. Yaharra has a large bowl on a counter with other small bowls of ingredients.

She says, SO FIRST YOU'RE GONNA ADD THE
BAKING POWDER AND THE SALT AND
THEN YOU TAKE THE MILK AND THE
WATER AND POUR THOSE TWO IN.

Yaharra adds the ingredients to the larger bowl. She mixes them together with a spatula.

She says, IT'S GONNA GET A BIT SLIMY BUT
LIKE IT JUST HAS TO GET INTO
LIKE ALMOST PLAY DOUGH OR LIKE
SLIME TEXTURE.
NOW YOU KINDA LIKE WANNA MOVE
THE DOUGH AROUND AND YOUR HANDS
GET VERY MESSY.

Yaharra kneads the dough on the counter. Her mom joins her. She has long brown braids and glasses. She laughs and helps Yaharra knead the dough.

Yaharra says, YOU TAKE A PIECE AND YOU ROLL IT
UP ALMOST LIKE A COOKIE SHAPE.

She and her mom roll and flatten small pieces of dough between their hands. Yaharra adds a flattened piece of dough to other pieces on the counter.

Yaharra’s mom says, THAT'S A BAKE.

Yaharra says, NOW WE HAVE TO FRY THE BAKES BUT
YOU SHOULD PROBABLY GET A PARENT
FOR THIS.

Her mom helps her fry the flattened pieces of dough in a pan on an oven. The animated sun appears and smells the dough.

Yaharra’s mom says, WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT
THEY'RE BAKED INSIDE RIGHT?

The animated sun rubs its belly.

Yaharra says, AND ALSO HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT
THEY DON'T STICK TOGETHER.

She flips one of the bakes with a pair of tongs.

Her mom says, GOOD GIRL.

A Yaharra Cam shows her mom frying more of the bakes and laying them on a paper towel.

Yaharra says, TIME TO EAT THE BAKES
NOW THAT THEY'RE ALL DONE.

She takes a bite of a bake.

She says, THAT'S SUPER GOOD.
YOU SHOULD TRY ONE.
YOU SHOULD MAKE SOME AT HOME.

Yaharra enjoys the bake,

MORE ABOUT TRADITIONAL CARIBBEAN

She adjusts Yaharra’s outfit.

Yaharra says, THE TRADITIONAL OUTFIT CONSISTS
OF THE TÊTE CASSÉ, THE CREOLE
TOP, WHICH IS CALLED BLOUSE, THE
FOULARD AND THE JUPE.

Arrows point to the different pieces of Yaharra’s outfit.

Yaharra says, MY DANCE INSTRUCTOR ALI IS GOING
TO BE TEACHING ME A COUPLE OF
BÉLÉ DANCE STEPS TODAY.

Ali demonstrates a dance move.

She counts, 1, 2, 3…
1, 2, 3…

She dances in bare feet.

Ali says, SO, FLAT,
TIP, TIP, DOWN.
TIP.

Yaharra says, THE DANCE IS PRONOUNCED BÉLÉ.
BÉLÉ IS A MIX OF AN AFRICAN AND
FRENCH DANCE THAT BECAME A
DOMINICAN DANCE.

She practices the dance move with Sophia and Ali.

Yaharra asks, DID YOU KNOW IT'S ONE OF THE
OLDEST DANCES OF DOMINICA?

Yaharra’s Aunt Veronica dances with Ali and the girls.

Yaharra says, AND ALSO PEOPLE DANCE IT IN
MARTINIQUE, SAINT LUCIA, HAITI,
GRENADA, GUADELOUPE, AND
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.

The animated sun dances. At home, Yaharra sits across from her brother with a chess board between them.

Yaharra says, ME AND MY BROTHER ARE PLAYING
CHESS AND BASICALLY YOU JUST
HAVE TO STAY VERY FOCUSED AND
ALWAYS THINK 3 STEPS AHEAD.

She moves her queen.

(Cheerful music plays)

The animated sun bursts out of a gift box and blows a party horn. Text reads, Sunny’s Surprise!

Yaharra’s brother says, SO, YAHARRA.
I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT
I'M REALLY PROUD OF YOU AND I
KNOW MOM AND DAD ARE ALSO VERY
PROUD OF YOU.
YAHARRA, WE HAVE
A SURPRISE FOR YOU.

Shasta says, SO I STARTED GOLF AT THE AGE OF
7.

Yaharra watches the video.

Shasta says, MY DAD GOT ME STARTED IN THE
GAME BECAUSE HE WAS PLAYING.
SO WHAT IS IT LIKE TO A
PROFESSIONAL GOLFER?
A LOT OF REPETITION AND WORK ON
YOUR FUNDAMENTALS AND MECHANICS.
JUST REALLY FIGURING OUT THE
GAME AND JUST HAVING FUN WITH
IT.
BEING ABLE TO OVERCOME AND
PERSEVERE IS REALLY WHAT MAKES
AN ATHLETE AN ATHLETE AND SO I
JUST WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU
KEEP PUSHING, KEEP HAVING FUN
WITH THE GAME AND JUST KEEP
INSPIRING OTHER YOUNG GIRLS
BEHIND YOU AND WE DEFINITELY ARE
ROOTING FOR YOU.

Yaharra says, WOW.

She looks amazed.

She says, WOW.
THANK YOU.
I APPRECIATE IT.

Yaharra moves a bishop on the chess board and flicks her brothers king off the board.

She says, CHECK MATE.

Her brother says, GOOD GAME.

Yaharra and her brother shake hands.
