Outside, Hisani wears a jacket and gloves. He waves.

He says, JAMBO.
I'M HISANI.
I'M 9 YEARS OLD.
LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT MY LIFE IS
LIKE.

On a bed, Hisani holds a globe ball.

He points to the continent on the globe.

RELATIVES LIVE.

Hisani says, I TOOK A FERRY ON THE INDIAN
OCEAN.
IN THE PLAINS OF SERENGETI YOU
CAN SEE LOTS OF ANIMALS LIKE
ZEBRAS AND LIONS AND GIRAFFES.

Pictures show the different animals. A flag is displayed.

Hisani says, THIS WAS THE FLAG OF TANGANYIKA
AND THIS WAS THE FLAG OF
ZANZIBAR.

The Zanibar flag is displayed.

Hisani says, THESE TWO FLAGS MADE THE FLAG OF
TANZANIA.

The flag of Tanzania flag is displayed.

Hisani says, GREEN MEANS LAND.
THE BLUE IS FOR THE WATER.
BLACK IS FOR THE PEOPLE.
YELLOW IS FOR THE WEALTH OF THE
COUNTRY.

He walks into a kitchen where a bald man with glasses cleans a counter.

Hisani says, HEY DAD.
I'M CRAVING SOME UGALI.
CAN WE MAKE SOME?

His dad says, YEAH.
FOR SURE.
DO YOU WHAT IS THE INGREDIENTS?

Hisani says, YEP.

He goes into a pantry.

His dad says, OKAY.

Hisani and his dad stand at a stove. Hisani mixes a pot of ingredients.

He says, UGALI IS MADE OUT OF CORNMEAL
FLOUR AND YOU MIX IT WITH HOT
WATER.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE MASHED
POTATOES BUT IT TASTES A LITTLE
DIFFERENT.
MY FAVORITE AFRICAN DISH IS
MANDAZI.
IT'S LIKE A DOUGHNUT BUT NOT
ROUND.

Hisani’s dad adds triangles of mandazi dough into a pot of oil. The oil sizzles as the dough fries.

Hisani says, MMM.

He watches the dough fry.

His dad says, WOW, THIS IS NICE.

The mandazi puffs and browns. Hisani takes a bite of ugali. The animated sun rubs their belly. Hisani’s dad brings over a pan of mandazi.

Hisani says, I NEVER USED TO LIKE MANDAZI
UNTIL MY GRANDMA MADE IT FOR ME
IN AFRICA.

He enjoys a mandazi.

Hisani says, DAD TRIES REALLY HARD BUT YOU
ALL KNOW GRANDMAS MAKE IT THE
BEST.

His dad looks offended.

Hisani says, MMM.
DELICIOUS.

(Door bell ringing)

Hisani jumps from his seat.

His dad says, SAVED BY THE BELL.

Hisani looks out a window.

He says, HEY.
IT'S MY FRIEND.

Outside, a boy with brown hair waves. Outside a building, Hisani walks with the boy and two others.

Hisani says, WE'RE HEADED TO THE REC CENTER.

In a gym, he says, THIS IS LUKE.

The brown haired boy says, HELLO.

Hisani says, BRYSON AND CROSBY.

Bryson has short light brown hair. Crosby has short dark brown hair.

Hisani says, THEY ARE MY BEST FRIENDS.

The friends play basketball.

Hisani says, WE PLAY BASKETBALL, SOCCER AND
FLOOR HOCKEY TOGETHER.

Crosby shoots a basket.

Hisani says, THEY'RE REALLY GOOD AT HOCKEY.

The friends play floor hockey.

Hisani says, ONE DAY I HOPE TO JOIN THE ICE
HOCKEY TEAM.

Crosby hits his hickey stick against the floor.

He says, AND HE HITS THE POST.

The friends continue their floor hockey game.

Hisani says, MY FRIENDS ARE AWESOME.
WE CHEER EACH OTHER ON.

One of the friends cheers, GO! GO! GO!

Hisani jumps behind three drums.

He says, THESE ARE MY DRUMS.
IN SWAHILI WE CALL THEM NGOMA.
THAT MEANS DRUMS.
I LIKE TO PLAY DRUMS BECAUSE I
CAN PLAY ANYTHING.
I JUST HAVE TO FIND THE GOOD
RHYTHM.

Hisani plays the drums. The animated sun waves.

Hisani says, THE NGOMA DRUMS ARE PLAYED IN
TANZANIA AND ALL OVER THE WORLD.
IT MAKES ME FEEL REALLY GOOD
WHEN I FIND THE RIGHT RHYTHM.

He plays a beat.

He says, I'VE BEEN PLAYING THE DRUMS
SINCE I WAS A BABY.
MY DAD TAUGHT ME HOW TO PLAY
THEM.

Hisani plays another beat.

He asks, DO YOU WANT TO SEE SOME OTHER
INSTRUMENTS?

He holds an electric guitar.

Hisani says, I PLAY THE GUITAR BUT IT'S
PRETTY BROKEN RIGHT NOW.
MY DAD TRIED TO ADJUST THE
STRINGS BUT HE ACCIDENTALLY
POPPED IT.

He grins. Hisani holds a ukulele.

He says, THE UKULELE SOUNDS LIKE THIS.

He strums the ukulele.

He says, AND
THE KALIMBA SOUNDS LIKE THIS.

Hisani plucks the metal tines on a kalimba.

With another instrument, he says, THIS IS A DIDGERIDOO.

He speaks through the long instrument.

He says, WE HAVE IT BUT WE DON'T PLAY IT
MUCH.

Hisani wears different colourful outfits.

He says, LOOKING GOOD!

Hisani’s dad says, HISANI IS A GOOD HUMAN BEING, AN
INSPIRATIONAL PERSON.
SAY A LOT OF INSPIRING THINGS TO
HISANI AND I'M SURE HE'S GONNA
LOVE THIS MESSAGE AND THIS
