Luane prepares a snack.

Luane says, MY PARENTS ARE FROM BRAZIL WHICH
MAKES ME CANADIAN AND
AFRO-BRAZILIAN.
MOST BRAZILIANS ARE PORTUGUESE,
AFRICAN OR MIXED RACE.
THIS IS A BRAZILIAN FLAG.

The Brazilian flag is displayed.

Luane says, THE GREEN MEANS THE RAINFOREST,
THE YELLOW MEANS MINERALS AND
THE GOLD.
THE BLUE MEANS THE SKY AND THE
STARS MEAN THE STATES.
STATES ARE LIKE PROVINCES.

On the map, lines appear over Brazil that show the states.

Luane says, AND I LOVE BRAZIL.

She says, I STARTED WITH STUFFING INSIDE
AND THEN WE CUT THIS PART.

Luane points between the bunny’s ears.

She says, AND
THEN WE PUT THE LITTLE GOOGLY
EYES AND THE NOSE AND THE TAIL.
THE TOP WE PUT AN ELASTIC AND
THE MIDDLE WE PUT AN ELASTIC.

Luane holds up a yellow and green shirt that reads, Brasil, 11.

She says, I GOT THIS FROM BRAZIL BECAUSE
MY GRANDMA GAVE ME IT.

Luane and other kids wear white. They do push ups together in a circle in a studio.

She says, MY FAVOURITE SPORT IS CAPOEIRA.
WHEN YOU PRACTICE CAPOEIRA WE
ALL WEAR WHITE AND DANCE IN A
CIRCLE.

Luane practices Capoeira with a person with others standing in a circle around them, singing and clapping. Other kids try to balance on their hands in the circle.

Luane says, CAPOEIRA IS A TRADITION THAT
COMES FROM AFRICANS IN BRAZIL.
IT MIXES DANCING, ACROBATICS AND
SINGING.

She plays a string instrument.

She says, MY FATHER TEACHES CAPOEIRA AND
THE FAVOURITE PART OF DOING IT
IS SINGING AND EVERY TIME I LIKE
TO DO IT I ASK MY DAD IF I CAN
SING AND IT'S REALLY FUN.
THERE'S LOTS OF INSTRUMENTS YOU
CAN PLAY.
MY FAVOURITE ONE IS THE BERIMBAU
BECAUSE WHEN I WAS 5 I HAD A
BERIMBAU.
I REALLY LOVE IT.

In her room, Luane holds a berimbau

She says, YOU HAVE A STICK AND A ROCK SO
YOU CAN PLAY IT.
YOU'RE GONNA HOLD THIS AND THEN
YOU'RE GONNA HAVE THE STICK BUT
YOU'RE GONNA GO LIKE 1, 2.

Luane plays the berimbau. She taps a stick against the steel string of the bow-like instrument. She holds a small rock against the string.

Luane says, THAT'S MY FAVOURITE PART OF
PLAYING IT BECAUSE I ALWAYS LIKE
COLLECTING ROCKS AND THIS IS MY
FAVOURITE ROCK THAT I USE.

She holds out her rock.

She says, MY DAD IS TEACHING ME HOW TO
PLAY SOCCER.

Outside, Luane passes a soccer ball back and forth between small orange cones with another player.

Luane says, MY FRIEND KYLE AND I, WE LOVE
PRACTISING TOGETHER.

Kyle continues practicing with Luane.

Luane says, IT HELPS US GET BETTER AND FROM
TIME TO TIME BEAT THE BOYS.
EVEN MY DAD.
HAHA!

In a Luane Cam, Luane kicks a ball toward a net. Her dad blocks the ball.

Luane says, SOMETIMES WE LIKE TO PLAY SOCCER
TOGETHER.
JUST LIKE IN BRAZIL.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BRAZILIAN
WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM IS ONE OF
THE BEST TEAMS IN THE WORLD?

Her dad passes the ball between her and Kyle.

Luane says, IN THE PASSED WOMEN WERE NOT
ALLOWED TO PLAY SOCCER BUT NOW I
AM HAPPY THAT WE ALL ARE ALLOWED
TO PLAY IN BRAZIL.

She scores a goal on her dad.

She cheers, AH!

Inside, Luane and her sister sit at a table.

Luane says, WHEN I'M NOT PLAYING SOCCER OR
PRACTISING MY CAPOEIRA MOVES I
LIKE SPENDING TIME WITH MY
SISTER CAMILLA.

T-shirts lie on the table in front of Luane and Camilla.

Luane says, WE'RE DOING A CRAFT.
WE'RE DOING A T-SHIRT CRAFT.

She and her sister decorate their shirts with flowers and gems.

Camilla asks, DO YOU WANT TO USE RIBBON?

Luane says, YEAH!
HE-HE-HE.

Camilla helps Luane unravel ribbon.

Luane says, CUT, CUT, CUT.

She places pieces of ribbon across her shirt. Camilla unravels her own piece of ribbon.

(Cheerful music plays)

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE DISH
BECAUSE IT'S FROM BRAZIL.
A BRAZILIAN DESSERT.
IT'S VERY SIMPLE TO MAKE.
ALL YOU NEED IS A BOWL, BUTTER,
CONDENSED MILK, CHOCOLATE POWDER
AND SPRINKLES.
FIRST YOU'RE GONNA START WITH
BUTTER.
WE'RE JUST GONNA GRAB A LITTLE
BIT AND THEN PUT IT ON YOUR HAND
AND START RUBBING.

Luane spreads butter over her hands.

She says, SO AS YOU SEE, WE HAVE SOME
BRIGADEIRO RIGHT HERE.
MY MOM'S GONNA HELP GET IT AND
NOW WE'RE GONNA ROLL IT UP UNTIL
IT ENDS UP IN A BALL.

Luane rolls her birgadeiro into a ball between her hands.

She says, AND NOW WE'RE GONNA PUT IT IN
THE SPRINKLES.

She drops the ball into a bowl of chocolate sprinkles and coats it in sprinkles.

Luane says, WE'RE JUST GONNA ROLL THE
SPRINKLES UP AND NOW WE'RE GONNA
PUT THE SPRINKLES IN THE CUP.

She puts the sprinkle covered brigadeiro in a small paper baking cup.

Luane says, YEAH.
WE'RE DONE.

The animated sun winks. Luane eats the treat and gives two thumbs up.

At the table with Camila, Luane says, THANKS FOR
JOINING ME GUYS.
