A narrator says, MEET KHALIL.

Khalil has short curly black hair. In a kitchen, a woman with short curly brown hair holds a bowl of ingredients. Khalil takes some of the ingredient.

The narrator says, HE LOVES MAKING HIBISCUS JUICE
AND TO SEW WITH HIS GRANDMA.

Khalil helps a woman cut fabric.

He says, THIS IS PAGNE.

He holds up the decorative fabric. On a track, he stands ready to run.

The narrator says, HE'S ALSO VERY COMPETITIVE WHEN
IT COMES TO RUNNING.

Khalil says, I'M RUNNING AROUND THE
TRACK TO BEAT MY OWN TIME.

He runs down the track.

He says, LET'S SEE HOW I CAN DO.

The narrator says, LOOKS LIKE WE'RE READY.

Outside a house, Khalil says, HI, MY NAME IS KHALIL AND I'M 8
YEARS OLD.
I LIVE IN OTTAWA, ONTARIO.

Khalil stands on a back porch.

He says, MEET MY FAMILY.
MY MOM AND MY GRANDMA COME FROM
CAMEROON.

Khalil’s mom and grandma wave.

Khalil says, MY DAD IS FRENCH-CANADIAN.

His dad waves.

Khalil says, THIS IS MY SISTER, AND THIS IS
MY BROTHER.

His sister waves. His mom carries his younger brother on her back. Inside, Khalil sits on a bed. He catches a globe ball.

He says, OTTAWA IS RIGHT HERE.

He holds his finger over a spot on the globe.

Khalil says, OTTAWA IS THE CAPITAL OF CANADA
AND THIS IS WHERE CAMEROON IS
LOCATED, WHERE MY MOM COMES
FROM.

A map shows the location of Ottawa and Cameroon.

Khalil says, THEY ARE FAR APART.

A flag is displayed.

Khalil says, THIS IS THE CAMEROONIAN FLAG.
THE FLAG IS GREEN, YELLOW, RED.
THE MIDDLE OF THE CAMEROONIAN
FLAG IS A STAR.
THE STAR STANDS FOR UNITY.
THAT MAKES ME A

A Khalil Cam shows Khalil running after a soccer ball. He gets the ball and kicks it across the field.

Khalil says, IT IS FUN TO PLAY SOCCER.

Khalil kicks the ball. He approaches friends who have the ball.

In a bedroom, Khalil pokes his head out a window in a tree fort loft bed.

AND LITTLE BROTHER AND FRIENDS
HERE.

The animated sun gives a thumbs up.

Khalil says, IT'S WHERE I KEEP MY SOCCER
MEDALS.

He holds his medals out the window. The animated sun smiles and waves. Khalil stands behind a counter top with a glass of water.

He says, I'M A BIT THIRSTY.

He snaps his fingers and the water becomes a dark drink.

He says, WHOA.
THIS IS BISSAP.
IT'S ALSO CALLED FOLÈRE OR
HIBISCUS JUICE.
IT'S MADE FORM HIBISCUS PETALS
KNOWN AS FOLÈRE OR BISSAP IN
CAMEROON.

He says, AH.
FRESH.
MY GRANDMA TEACHES ME HOW TO
MAKE IT.

Khalil’s grandma puts her arm around him.

Khalil says, TO MAKE BISSAP JUICE WHAT YOU
NEED IS, BISSAP LEAVES, WATER,
PINEAPPLE JUICE AND SUGAR.

His grandma points to the different ingredients needed. She stands by a pot on a stove with Khalil.

Khalil says, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ADULT WITH
YOU.

His grandma holds the bowl of bissap leaves.

Khalil says, DID YOU KNOW THAT BISSAP HAS
VITAMINS AND MINERALS?
FIRST WE NEED TO PUT THE LEAVES
INSIDE THE BOILING WATER.

He sprinkles the leaves into the pot.

He says, THEN WE COVER IT AND WE LET IT
BOIL FOR A LONG TIME.
THEN WE STRAIN THE FLOWERS.

Khalil’s grandma scoops the liquid and flowers into a strainer over a jug.

Khalil says, THEN WE PUT IN THE SUGAR.

His grandma pours the sugar into the jug.

Khalil says, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST WE PUT IN
THE PINEAPPLE JUICE.

His grandma adds the pineapple juice to the jug.

Khalil says, TRADITIONALLY, WE SERVE IT TO
GUESTS IN OUR CULTURE.

He grabs a glass of bissap.

He says, HERE.
YOU WANT SOME?

He holds out the glass.

He says, CHEERS.

The animated sun dances. Khalil drinks the bissap.

On the track, he says, I LIKE RUNNING BECAUSE IT FEELS
GOOD.

Khalil’s dad stands with him on the track.

Khalil says, I'M RUNNING AROUND THE TRACK TO
BEAT MY OWN TIME.
LET'S SEE HOW I CAN DO.

An animated clock ticks as Khalil runs down the track.

Khalil says, MY FAVOURITE RUNNER WOULD BE

MAKE CLOTHES WITH PAGNE.

He holds a piece of paper in place over a piece of pagne. He speaks in French as his Grandma cuts the pagne.

His Grandma says, APRÈS JE RECULE, OKAY?

In another room, Khalil’s mom dances with Khalil and his sister. She carries his younger brother on her back.

Khalil says, MY MOM TEACHES AFRO-CARIBBEAN
DANCE.
THE DANCES COMES FORM AFRICA.

He dances.

He says, WOW.
AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS VERY
CHALLENGING BUT VERY FUN AND
KEEPS MY CAMEROONIAN VIBES
ALIVE.

Khalil does the worm. His mom cheers and claps.

(Cheerful music plays)

The animated sun bursts out of a gift box and blows a party horn. Text reads, Sunny’s Surprise!

Khalil’s mom holds a tablet.

She says, I'M ABOUT TO SHOW KHALIL THIS
VIDEO.
WE'VE BEEN WATCHING THE
OLYMPICS.
HE'S BEEN, YOU KNOW?
TELLING ME ABOUT HOW HE THINKS
HE'S SUPER FAST AND HE WOULD

She takes a seat beside Khalil at the table covered with pagne.

A message plays of a bald man with a grey beard.

The man says, HI KHALIL.
I HOPE YOU ARE WELL.
MY NAME IS BRUNY SURIN.
I'M AN OLYMPIC CHAMPION.

Bruny says, YOU LIKE SPRINTING AND YOU ARE

Khalil looks amazed.
