An animated sun waves. Over colourful art on a brick wall are different pictures of children. Under the animated sun, text reads, Sunny’s Quest.

In a backyard, Aayana says, HI, I'M AAYANA AND
I'M 9 YEARS OLD.
I'M CANADIAN-GHANIAN AND I LIVE
IN CALGARY, ALBERTA.

Calgary is marked on a map. A dotted line connects Calgary to Ghana, located in Africa on the map.

Aayana says, I'M GONNA SHOW YOU WHERE MY
FAMILY WAS BORN.

She sits on a couch with a globe ball.

She says, RIGHT HERE IN GHANA.

Aayana points to Ghana on the globe.

She says, GHANA IS LOCATED ON THE WEST
COAST OF AFRICA.

A flag is displayed.

MY MOM NITA AND MY DAD LEONARD.

Her mom and dad wave.

They say, HI.

Aayana says, THIS IS THE DESK WHERE I LEARN
ABOUT MY AFRICAN HERITAGE.

She has a book titled, Heir, and a book titled, Glory on the desk.

She says, I LEARNED TO SAY MEDAASE, WHICH
MEANS THANK YOU AND WO HO TE
SEN?
WHICH MEANS "HOW ARE YOU?"
IN THE GHANIAN LANGUAGE FANTE.
I GET TO PRACTICE EVEN MORE WHEN
I VISIT MY FAMILY IN GHANA.

Aayana stands in a bedroom with a bunkbed.

She says, THIS IS MY ROOM.

She grabs a teddy bear from the bunk bed stairs.

Aayana says, THIS IS MY TEDDY BEAR.
I BUILT HIM WITH A LITTLE HELP
FROM MY MOM WHEN I WAS 3.
ME AND MY BROTHER LOVE TO DOODLE
SO WE TOOK ONE OF OUR DOODLES
AND PRINTED IT ON A SHIRT.

She shows two shirts with doodles that hang on a bookshelf.

Aayana says, AND
BEHIND THESE I HAVE THIS LITTLE
AFRICAN PRINT BAG.

Aayana holds the small colourful bag.

She says, MY DAD GAVE IT TO ME SO I CAN
STORE SOME OF MY STUFF IN IT.

She stands by medals that hang on a wall.

Aayana says, I HAVE MEDALS THAT I GOT FROM
MATH AND READING CLUB AND I GOT
A SILVER AND A GOLD.

She stands by a chalkboard.

She adds a piece of chicken to a pot.

Aayana says, THIS IS PEANUT BUTTER.

She holds the plastic container of peanut butter.

She says, WE MAKE OUR OWN HOMEMADE PEANUT
BUTTER WITH NO SUGAR.
THIS IS SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER AND WATER.

Aayana opens a container with the smooth peanut butter and water.

She says, IT'S VERY LIQUIDY AND IT'S NOT
AS DARK AS THE ORIGINAL.
SO, THIS IS SOME SECRET
SEASONING.

Aayana holds out a container with small seeds.

She says, NOT SURE IF YOU CAN GUESS.
THE SECRET INGREDIENT IS MUSTARD
SEEDS!

Aayana dumps the mustard seeds into the pot with the other ingredients.

She says, AND THERE WE HAVE IT.
SOME PEANUT BUTTER SOUP.
ALL I NEED IS FOR MY MOM TO HELP
ME PUT IT ON THE STOVE.

Aayana’s mom puts the pot on the stove.

Aayana says, AND IT HAS LANDED.
AND NOW WE WAIT.
THE PART THAT TAKES FOREVER.

A lid covers the pot as the soup cooks. The animated sun dances.

Aayana says, AND NOW IT'S TIME TO CHECK.

She removes the pot’s lid. Tomatoes are in the soup.

Aayana says, WE ADDED TOMATOES EARLIER.

The soup bubbles.

Aayana says, LOOKS GOOD.
GHANIAN FOOD ALWAYS MAKES ME
HAPPY.

She stirs the soup.

She says, DON'T WORRY.
I'M NOT GREEDY.
I'LL SHARE.

Aayana takes a spoonful of soup from the pot.

She says, WHEN I VISIT MY FAMILY IN GHANA
WE RESERVE SUNDAYS FOR FAMILY
TIME TO CATCH UP,
AND TO COOK TOGETHER.

Aayana and her family eat peanut butter soup together at a table.

Aayana says, THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST THAT
HAS BEEN MADE IN AWHILE.

[Laughing]

Aayana’s dad says, ALL RIGHT!

Outside, a sign reads, Sage Meadows Market, African Store.

CLIMB THEMSELVES.

[Aayana laughing]

OUTSIDE WITH MY FRIENDS AND
MAKING UP GAMES.

She points to her left.

She says, YOU TWO WILL BE AT THE FRONT.
NOW TWO EQUALS ONE.

Two kids push Aayana and Jayden back and forth on a large swing.

[Laughing]

Aayana says, I'VE BEEN SKATING FOR 3 YEARS
NOW AND I LOVE IT.

Off the ice, Aayana stands beside a woman with short brown hair.

She says, THIS IS MY COACH MISS LESLIE.

Aayana skates on the ice.

IT ALL THE TIME.

Aayana skates on one foot with one hand out straight in front of her. With her other hand, she holds her other foot behind her.

Aayana says, THIS MOVE IS THE BUMPER CAR.
DON'T LET ME BUMP YOU.

She skates in a squat position with her arms out in front of her.

Aayana says, SOMETIMES I SEE MYSELF AS AN
AFRICAN BALLERINA ON ICE.

The animated sun puts on a crown and smiles.

[Cheerful music plays]

The animated sun bursts out of a gift box and blows a party horn. Text reads, Sunny’s Surprise! At the ice rink, Miss Leslie carries a tablet.

She says, AAYANA, SOMEONE HAS A SPECIAL
MESSAGE FOR YOU FOR ALL YOUR
HARD WORK.

LOVE AND KINDNESS AAYANA.
THAT'S ALL.
AND STAY FABULOUS!

Aayana smiles.
