Elinor, the white rabbit, smiles as she walks through a forest. Orange flowers grow along a path. Elinor wears a red and purple dress. Her black hair is parted to one side and falls to her shoulders.

Elinor approaches a monarch butterfly on a boulder. It flies away from her. Elinor slides down a large red slide while an iguana crawls up a wooden post.
She plays on the swings with Olive, an elephant wearing a blue t-shirt and a matching bow on her head. Ari, the bat, is perched on top of the swing. He wears a green t-shirt and yellow shorts. Ms. Mole sits on a nearby rock and reads a book. She has curly red hair and wears a purple sweater with glasses.

Elinor sings,
WHEREVER I GO
I SEE THINGS THAT I WANT TO
KNOW
WHEREVER I AM
I FIND THINGS I WANT TO
UNDERSTAND
GO AND EXPLORE
LISTEN AND SEE
JUST FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY

Everyone sings,
ELINOR WONDERS WHY

Elinor, Ari, and Olive leap onto a rock as they cross a calm river. A blue bird flies by and lands on a branch. Elinor climbs the tree.

Elinor sings,
WHY DO BIRDS SING?
AND HOW DO THEY FLY?

Everyone sings,
ELINOR WONDERS WHY

Elinor watches ants march along a dirt path with her magnifying glass. Olive Elinor notes.

She sings,
WHY DO ANTS MARCH?
AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?
THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY

Elinor rushes to her mother, Ranger Rabbit, at night. Olive and Ari follow her. Fireflies surround them.

Everyone sings,
ELINOR WONDERS WHY

Elinor looks at fallen red and yellow leaves.

She sings,
ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?

Elinor slides across a frozen river.

Everyone sings,
ELINOR WONDERS WHY

Elinor follows Ari and Olive into a town.

Elinor sings,
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME

Text reads, “Elinor Wonders Why”.

A snowflake floats past the school and through the snow-covered town. A citizen enters a barbershop while another enters a bank.

Text reads, “The Science of Staying Warm”.

Mr. Moose shovels snow outside his house. He wears a green shirt and yellow shorts.

Kids play in the snowy streets. Mary, a goat wearing a green dress, pulls her identical sister, Lizzie, in a sled. Mary wears a green dress. Lizzie wears a blue one. Sally, the beaver, builds a snow beaver. She wears a purple sweater and blue earmuffs.

(All giggling)

Elinor smiles as she watches the other kids play from inside Olive’s bedroom. The snowflake lands on the window.

Elinor says,
WHAT A PRETTY SNOWFLAKE!
HURRY, OLIVE!
IT'S TIME TO PLAY IN THE SNOW!

Ari runs into Olive’s bedroom. He holds an orange sled and wears a blue and yellow helmet.

He adds,
YEAH, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY
MY NEW SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED.
WHOA, THAT'S HARD TO SAY.
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED.

(Giggling)

Elinor wraps her arm around Ari. They dance.

Elinor and Ari cheer,
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!

Olive says,
OKAY, I'M READY.
THERE'S NO TIME LIKE SNOW TIME!

(Trumpeting)

(Laughing)

Elinor cheers, YAY!

She rushes to the front door with Ari.

Ari says, ALL RIGHT!

Olive’s mom walks into the hallway. She holds a blue snowsuit and a purple scarf in her trunk.

She says,
OLIVE, SWEETIE.
AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING?

Olive replies,
AW, MOM, IT TAKES FOREVER TO
PUT ALL THOSE WINTER CLOTHES ON.

Olive’s mom says,
TRUE, IT TAKES MORE TIME,
BUT YOU KNOW IT'S COLD OUTSIDE.

Elinor says,
IT'S OKAY, OLIVE.
WE'LL WAIT FOR YOU.
RIGHT, ARI?

Ari turns to Olive.

He replies,
HUH?
OH, UH... YEAH.
SURE WE WILL!

Olive’s mom hands Olive the scarf.

Olive’s mom says,
COME, COME NOW, OLIVE.
I BET IF WE WORK TOGETHER WE CAN
GET YOU READY IN TWO SHAKES OF A
LAMB'S TAIL.
READY, SET...

(Trumpeting)

(Giggling)

Elinor and Ari walk to Olive.

Ari says,
I LOVE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT.

(Groaning)

Olive’s mom helps Olive put on her snowsuit. Elinor and Ari look excited as they watch Olive’s mom put on Olive’s hood and wrap the scarf around her neck.

Later, Elinor and Ari look bored.

Olive’s mom helps Olive put on her mittens. Olive puts on her boots and covers her trunk.

(Snoring)

Later, Elinor and Ari sleep

(Olive clearing throat)

(Yawning)

Elinor and Ari wake up.

They reply, HUH?

Olive says,
SORRY I TOOK SO LONG.
IT'S MY WINTER CLOTHES.
THERE'S KIND OF A LOT OF THEM.

Elinor sits up.

She says, THAT'S OKAY, OLIVE.

Ari adds,
YOU'RE ALL READY NOW!
COME ON!
I HAVE A NEED FOR SAUCER SLED
SPEED!

(Cheering)

Elinor and Ari run outside.

Olive says, WAIT UP, ELINOR.

Elinor asks, OLIVE, WHAT'S WRONG?

Olive replies,
I...
I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM.

(Sighing)

Ari drops his sled and falls face-first into the snow.

Later, Olive meets Elinor and Ari outside.

Olive says, OKAY, I'M READY.

Ari cheers, WHOO-HOO!

Elinor says,
COME ON!
YAY!

Elinor and Ari run down Olive’s front steps. Olive walks behind them slowly.

(Giggling)

Ari runs up a hill.

Elinor says,
OH, THIS SNOW IS PERFECT!
ARE YOU THINKING WHAT I'M
THINKING?

Elinor and Olive shout, SNOW BIRDS!

Elinor and Olive fall backward into the snow and make snowbirds.

(Giggling)

Elinor asks,
READY TO LOOK AT OUR SNOW
BIRDS, OLIVE?

Olive answers, READY!

Elinor stands up.

Elinor says,
ONE, TWO, THREE!
OOOH, SO PRETTY!
HOW'S YOURS, OLIVE?

(Grunting)

Olive lies in the snow.

She says, UH, HELP?

Elinor replies,
HUH!
I'M COMING, OLIVE!

(Grunting)

Elinor helps Olive stand up.

(Giggling)

Olive looks at her snow bird.

(Sighing)

Olive says,
MY SNOW BIRD LOOKS MORE LIKE
A SNOW-JELLYFISH!
I WISH MY WINTER CLOTHES WEREN'T
SO BIG AND PUFFY.

Ari slides down the hill on his sled.

He shouts,
LOOK OUT BELOW!
WHOA!
HOW DO YOU STEER THIS THING?!
WHOA!

Ari speeds past Elinor and Olive.

Elinor shouts, ARI!

She runs to Ari who lies in a pile of snow.

(Groaning)

Ari says, I THINK I'M STUCK.

(Giggling)

Elinor and Olive pull Ari out of the snow.

Elinor asks, ARE YOU OKAY?

Ari flaps his wings.

He answers,
I'M OKAY!
BUT, YEAH...
THAT DIDN'T GO EXACTLY AS
PLANNED.
BUT I'M GONNA TRY IT AGAIN.
WANNA COME?

(Giggling)

Elinor says,
COME ON, OLIVE.
LET'S GO SLEDDING!

She runs up the hill with Ari. Olive walks slowly behind them.

She says,
WAIT UP, ELINOR!
I'M...

(Panting)

Olive struggles to climb the hill.

She adds,
COMING!
WHOA!
AWW.

Olive falls. She slides down the hill.

Elinor says,
UH OH.
ARE YOU OKAY, OLIVE??

She runs down the hill.

Olive replies,
YEAH.
I WISH I DIDN'T HAVE TO WEAR ALL
THESE WINTER CLOTHES.
THEY'RE SO PUFFY, IT'S HARD TO
MOVE.

(Laughing)

Olive watches Mary and Lizzie build a snow bear.

Olive says, HMM…

Later, Olive’s snowsuit and scarf are wrapped around the snow bear.

Olive says,
THERE, NOW I CAN MOVE.

A snowball hits Olive.

She says,
HEY!
OH YEAH?
WELL, NOW IT'S MY TURN, JAVIER.
SNOWBALL FIGHT!

Javier, the moose, packs a snowball. He wears a green scarf and a backward purple hat.

Javier throws snowballs at Olive. She hides behind the snow bear.

(Giggling)

Olive chases Javier down the street.

(Giggling)

Olive throws a snowball at Javier. He throws one back at her.

(Grunting)

Olive shakes as she rubs her hooves together.

(Shivering)

(Teeth chattering)

Elinor hops to Olive.

Elinor says,
HEY OLIVE, WHY DIDN'T YOU
COME SAUCER SLEDDING?
OLIVE?

(Teeth chattering)

Olive shakes.

Later, Olive is wrapped in a green blanket as she sits on her bed at home.

She says, AHH, THAT'S B-B-B-BETTER.

Elinor looks out Olive’s bedroom window. She turns to Olive.

Elinor says,
YOU GOT REALLY COLD OUT
THERE, OLIVE.

Olive replies,
IT'S NOT FAIR.
HOW COME I HAVE TO WEAR BIG,
PUFFY WINTER CLOTHES WHEN I
GO OUTSIDE?

Elinor says,
OTHER KIDS WEAR THEM TOO.
LOOK AT BODIE.
HE'S WEARING A FULL SNOWSUIT.

Bodie, a hippopotamus wearing a yellow snowsuit, snowboards down the hill. He stops quickly and covers Rollie, an armadillo, with snow. Rollie wears a thick brown jacket.

(Laughing)

Rollie shakes off the snow.

Elinor adds, AND SO IS ROLLIE.

Olive replies,
HMM...
BUT JAVIER ISN'T WEARING A THICK
JACKET.
AND NEITHER ARE MARY OR LIZZIE.

Elinor says,
SOME OF OUR FRIENDS ARE
WEARING LOTS OF WINTER CLOTHES,
AND SOME AREN'T.
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!

Olive asks, I WONDER WHY THAT IS?

Elinor says,
I DON'T KNOW.
WAIT, I HAVE AN IDEA.
LET'S GO BACK OUTSIDE AND FIND
OUT.

She runs out of Olive’s bedroom and into the hallway.

Olive replies,
UH, I THINK I'LL STAY INSIDE.

Elinor says,
OKAY, YOU STAY HERE.
WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!

Elinor runs outside and jumps into the snow.

She sings,
THERE'S NO TIME
LIKE SNOW TIME
WHEN WINTERTIME IS HERE
SLIDING, GLIDING,
SNOWBALL FUN
WHAT A TIME OF YEAR
BUT WHEN THE SNOW HAS FALLEN,
AND THE LAKE HAS FROZE
DIFFERENT ANIMALS
SEEM TO WEAR
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CLOTHES
SOME WEAR COZY SNOWSUITS
WITH SCARVES AND MITTS
AND HATS
OTHERS WEAR THEIR
NORMAL CLOTHES
LIKE GOATS AND BEAVERS

Ari peeks out of a snow fort.

He shouts, AND BATS, AHH!

Elinor and Ari dance.

They sing,
THERE'S NO TIME
LIKE SNOW TIME
WHEN WINTERTIME IS HERE
SAUCER SLEDDING, SO MUCH FUN
WHAT A TIME OF YEAR

Elinor and Ari cheer, WHOO-HOO!

Later, Elinor walks into Olive’s bedroom. Olive reads a book as she sits on her bed.

(Sighing)

Olive asks,
WELL, DID YOU FIND ANYTHING OUT?

Elinor replies,
YES AND NO.
SOME OF US WEAR LOTS OF WINTER
CLOTHES.
AND SOME OF US WEAR HARDLY ANY
WINTER CLOTHES AT ALL.

Olive says,
HMM, I KNOW!
LET'S MAKE A CHART SO WE CAN SEE
WHAT'S THE SAME AND WHAT'S
DIFFERENT.

Olive makes a chart in a green notepad.

She adds,
WEARING LOTS OF WINTER CLOTHES...
NOT WEARING LOTS OF WINTER
CLOTHES.
TELL ME WHAT EVERYBODY IS
WEARING.

Elinor looks out the window.

She replies,
LET'S SEE.
BODIE AND ROLLIE ARE WEARING
FULL SNOWSUITS.

Bodie covers Rollie in snow again.

Olive says,
BODIE AND ROLLIE.
GOT IT.

Elinor adds,
HMM...
JAVIER, MARY, AND LIZZIE
ARE ONLY WEARING SCARVES OVER
THEIR NORMAL CLOTHES.

Javier juggles snowballs while Mary pulls Lizzie in a sled.

Olive says, JAVIER, MARY, AND LIZZIE.

Elinor looks at Olive’s chart. Ari rushes into Olive’s bedroom.

He shouts,
THIS SAUCER SLED IS AWESOME!
BUT KINDA HARD TO CONTROL.
WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING?

Elinor replies,
WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT
WHY OLIVE GOT SO COLD.

Olive adds,
YEAH, SOME OF US NEED LOTS OF
WINTER CLOTHES, AND SOME OF US
DON'T!

Ari says,
WELL, YOU CAN PUT ME IN THE
NOT-SO-MANY WINTER CLOTHES
CATEGORY.
I LIKE TO LET MY FUR FLY FREE!

Elinor replies,
BUT WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHY.
WAIT, FUR!
ARI, YOU HAVE FUR!

Ari says, YOU BET I DO!

Elinor adds,
AND I HAVE FUR TOO!
AND I DON'T NEED WINTER CLOTHES
TO STAY WARM IN THE SNOW.

Olive says,
BUT I DO!
AND I DON'T HAVE FUR.
LOOK!

Elinor looks at Olive’s chart again.

Elinor says,
THAT'S IT!
OUR FRIENDS THAT DON'T HAVE FUR
NEED WINTER CLOTHES TO STAY
WARM.
LIKE BODIE AND ROLLIE.

Olive marks herself down on the chart.

She adds,
AND ME!
BUT OUR FRIENDS THAT DO HAVE FUR
DON'T NEED A LOT OF WINTER
CLOTHES.

Elinor replies,
THAT'S AMAZING!
HAVING FUR KEEPS YOU WARM.
IT'S LIKE HAVING YOUR OWN
BUILT-IN SNOWSUIT!

Ari nods.

He says, YEAH!

Olive says,
THAT'S IT!
WE FIGURED IT OUT!

Elinor leaps in the air.

She says, YES!

(Giggling)

Elinor and Olive hug.

(Sighing)

Olive frowns.

She says,
I WISH I HAD FUR LIKE YOU
GUYS SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO WEAR
ALL THOSE WINTERY CLOTHES.

Ari replies,
WELL, I WISH I HAD A TRUNK
LIKE YOU, SO I COULD DO THAT
THING THAT YOU AND YOUR MOM DO.

Olive asks, YOU MEAN THIS?

(Trumpeting)

(Laughing)

Ari says, YEAH, I LOVE THAT.

Olive crawls off her bed.

She adds,
I GUESS WE'RE ALL JUST
DIFFERENT, AND SINCE I DON'T
HAVE FUR...
I GUESS I HAVE TO WEAR MY WINTER
CLOTHES TO STAY WARM.

Olive picks up her snowsuit and scarf.

She says,
WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?
LET'S GET OUTSIDE BEFORE THE
SNOW MELTS!

(Cheering)

Later, snow falls as Ari, Olive, and Elinor climb up the hill.

Olive says, WHOA!

Olive loses her balance. Elinor catches her.

(Giggling)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari reach the top of the hill. Ari sits on his sled.

Elinor asks, NICE AND WARM, OLIVE?

Olive answers, YEAH!

Ari asks,
ARE YOU GUYS SURE?
I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO STEER
THIS THING.

Olive replies,
YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
FOLLOW ME!
WHOO-HOO!

Olive makes a path in the snow as she slides down the hill.

(Grunting)

Olive says,
SEE!
MY SNOW CLOTHES KEEP ME WARM AND
THEY MAKE A PATH IN THE SNOW!
COME ON, YOU GUYS!
THERE'S NO TIME LIKE SNOW TIME!

Elinor and Ari cheer,
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!
SUPER SPEEDY SAUCER SLED!

Elinor sits on the sled with Ari.

Elinor says, YAY!

She slides down the hill with Ari. They land in the snow fort.

(Giggling)

Ari says, WHOO-HOO!

Ari runs out of the snow fort.

(Giggling)

Ari shouts, I LOVE SNOW!

(Giggling)

Elinor and Olive follow Ari back up the hill.

Later, Ms. Mole opens the classroom door and students hurry inside.

Ms. Mole says,
BRRR, IT'S SO COLD OUT TODAY.
LET'S WARM UP WITH A NICE CUP OF
HOT COCOA AND A STORY.

(Kids cheering)

The students sit on a rug in front of Ms. Mole.

Elinor asks,
WHAT'S TODAY'S STORY, MS. MOLE?

Ms. Mole opens a pop-up book. Icebergs float in the water on one of the pages.

Ms. Mole answers,
TODAY'S STORY IS ALL ABOUT STAYING
WARM.
BUT OUR STORY STARTS IN A VERY
COLD PLACE.
WAY UP IN THE NORTH, ONLY A FEW
ANIMALS CAN STAY WARM.
THE POLAR BEAR HAS A VERY THICK
COAT OF FUR TO STAY WARM.

A polar bear walks to the edge of an iceberg and stands on its hind legs.

Olive says,
ONE OF MY FRIENDS IS A POLAR BEAR.
WHEN SHE VISITS, SHE DOESN'T
EVEN WEAR A JACKET OUTSIDE.

Ms. Mole adds,
THAT'S RIGHT, POLAR BEARS HAVE
THICK COATS OF FUR ON THEIR SKIN
THAT LET THEM STAY WARM ON THE
ICE.
OR EVEN WHEN THEY SWIM IN
FREEZING WATERS.

The polar bear dives into the water. It floats on its back as it enjoys a drink with an umbrella in it.

Elinor asks,
MS. MOLE, WHY ARE POLAR BEARS
ALWAYS WHITE?

Ms. Mole replies,
GOOD QUESTION.
POLAR BEARS HAVE WHITE FUR SO
THEY CAN HIDE IN THE SNOW.

Olive adds,
YOU CAN HARDLY SEE HIM!

Ms. Mole says,
BUT THAT'S NOT EVEN THE MOST
AMAZING THING ABOUT POLAR BEARS!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT COLOUR A POLAR
BEAR'S SKIN IS UNDERNEATH ALL
THAT FUR?

Elinor says, I'M PINK UNDER MY FUR.

Ari asks, IS IT WHITE TOO?

Ms. Mole adds,
IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, A POLAR
BEAR'S SKIN IS ACTUALLY BLACK
UNDERNEATH THE FUR!
THE THICK WHITE FUR KEEPS THEM
COZY IN THE SNOW, AND THE BLACK
SKIN UNDERNEATH HELPS THEM SOAK
UP THE WARM LIGHT FROM THE SUN.
IT'S A GOOD THING POLAR BEARS
HAVE SUCH SPECIAL FUR AND SKIN.
YOU WON'T FIND A MOLE LIKE ME
SWIMMING IN FREEZING WATER.

Ms. Mole puts down the book. She wears a thick white jacket and a polar bear hat.

(Kids giggling)

Elinor runs to school on a sunny day. She blows a leaf into the sky.

Text reads, “The Seed of an Idea”.

Elinor hurries into her classroom. Ashley, a koala, stands at the door and waves to her. Ashley has red hair and wears a yellow dress.

(Giggling)

Elinor says, HI!

(Giggling)

(Velcro tearing)

Elinor hops past Ashley. Ashley loosens her Velcro boots.

Elinor says, HUH?

(Velcro tearing)

Medhi, the fox, opens his backpack. He wears a red fez and a grey hoodie.

Elinor says, HMM.

(Velcro tearing)

Javier opens his yellow jacket in front of Elinor.

Elinor says, OH…

She smiles as she scratches her head. Elinor bumps into Olive.

Olive says,
HI, ELINOR!
YOU LOOK EXTRA CURIOUS TODAY!

Elinor replies,
HI, OLIVE!
HI, ARI!

Ari says,
GOOD MORNING, ELINOR!
ARE YOU CURIOUS TO SEE SOMETHING
COOL?
CHECK THIS OUT!
I HAVE A NEW WATCH!

Ari wears a digital watch.

Elinor says, OOH...

Olive says,
HE'S BEEN SHOWING IT TO
EVERYONE THIS MORNING.

(Giggling)

Ari says,
MY PARENTS GOT IT FOR ME.
THEY SAID IT'S TO HELP ME STAY
ON TRACK.
"WATCH" THIS!

Ari presses a button on his watch.

The watch alarm says,
TIME TO GO TO SCHOOL!

(Giggling)

(Beeping)

The watch alarm says,
EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!

Elinor says, OH.

The watch alarm adds,
PUT YOUR PANTS ON!

Elinor says, OH!

Ari replies,
HEY, SOMETIMES I FORGET.

(Laughing)

Ari adds,
WANT TO SEE MY FAVOURITE PART?
LOOK AT THE WATCH STRAP!

(Velcro tearing)

Ari pulls his watch strap.

Elinor says, WHOA!

She looks amazed.

Ms. Mole stands in front of the class.

She says,
OKAY, CLASS, TIME TO FIND OUR
PLACES!

(Giggling)

The students sit on the rug in front of Ms. Mole.

They say, GOOD MORNING, MS. MOLE!

Ms. Mole replies,
GOOD MORNING!
NOW, WHERE IS MY BOOK?
AH-HAH!
IS THIS IT?

Ms. Mole lifts a carrot off her desk.

The students shout, NO!

Ari says, THAT'S A CARROT!

(Sniffing)

Ms. Mole replies, OOPS, YOU'RE RIGHT!

(Laughing)

(Chomping)

Ms. Mole takes a bite of the carrot and lays it back on the desk. She picks up a chalkboard eraser.

Ms. Mole says,
HMM, HERE, OKAY.
NOW THIS MUST BE MY BOOK!

The students reply, NO!

(Giggling)

Ari shouts, THAT'S AN ERASER!

(Sniffing)

Ms. Mole smells the eraser and blows on it. Chalk dust fills the air.

Ms. Mole says, AH... AH...

(Sneezing)

Ms. Mole picks up a book from her desk.

She asks,
HMM...
IS THIS MY BOOK?

(Laughing)

The students shout, YES!

(Giggling)

Ms. Mole says,
NOW WE ARE READY FOR THE
LESSON!
TODAY WE ARE GOING TO LEARN
ABOUT NATURE'S IDEAS.
IDEAS...

She whispers, IDEAS…

Ms. Mole opens the book.

Elinor replies, HMM.

Ms. Mole adds,
NATURE HAS SOLVED A LOT OF
DIFFERENT KINDS OF PROBLEMS
AND IS FULL OF USEFUL IDEAS.
FOR EXAMPLE...

(Velcro tearing)

(Giggling)

Elinor grins.

(Clearing throat)

Ms. Mole says,
NATURE IS FULL OF USEFUL
IDEAS, LIKE--

(Velcro tearing)

Elinor pulls on Ari’s watch.

The students look at Elinor. She shrugs.

Elinor mumbles, I DUNNO.

(Giggling)

Ms. Mole says,
NATURE IS FULL OF IDEAS
LIKE--

(Velcro tearing)

Elinor pulls on Ari’s watch again.

Ms. Mole says, ELINOR...

Elinor replies,
MS. MOLE, THIS STRAP IS SO COOL!
YOU CAN OPEN IT AND CLOSE IT
AND OPEN IT AND CLOSE IT.
MOST OF IT IS SOFT AND FUZZY,
EXCEPT FOR THIS SCRATCHY PATCH
WHICH STICKS TO THE FUZZY PART
OF THE STRAP.
THE TWO PARTS STICK TOGETHER
LIKE TAPE, BUT THEY AREN'T STICKY!

A student says, OH, WOW!

Elinor holds up Ari’s arm.

She adds,
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
AND LOOK!
THERE'S A PATCH LIKE THAT ON
ALL SORTS OF THINGS!

Elinor drags Ari across the classroom.

Ari says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!

Elinor pulls on Ashley's bootstrap.

She says,
IT KEEPS ASHLEY'S BOOTS CLOSED.

Ashley grabs Medhi’s backpack.

She adds,
IT KEEPS MEHDI'S BACKPACK
CLOSED.
AND IT'S ON JAVIER'S COAT!

(Velcro tearing)

Elinor pulls on Javier’s yellow jacket.

Olive says,
YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S ON EVERYTHING!

She pulls off Ari’s watch off his wrist with her trunk. Ari falls to the floor.

He says, OOF!

Elinor says,
BUT I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT
BEFORE.
I WONDER HOW IT WORKS?

Ms. Mole replies, WELL, ELINOR--

The watch alarm says,
TIME FOR RECESS!
TIME FOR RECESS!

Ms. Mole says,
AH, YES.
THANK YOU, ARI'S WATCH!
IT'S TIME FOR RECESS!

(Kids cheering)

Students rush out of the classroom. Elinor, Ari, and Olive look at the watch at the door.

Elinor asks,
HMM, HOW DOES THIS WORK?
HOW DOES THIS SCRATCHY PATCH
STICK TO THE FUZZY SIDE WITHOUT
BEING STICKY?

Olive replies,
DUN-DUN-DUN!
SOUNDS LIKE A MYSTERY.
I'LL SEE IF WE HAVE ANY BOOKS
ABOUT IT!

Ari watches the other students play outside from the classroom window.

He asks,
WHAT ABOUT GOING TO RECESS?

Elinor sticks Ari’s watch to the back of his t-shirt.

She says,
AND LOOK, THE PATCH ALSO
STICKS TO OTHER THINGS!

Elinor pulls the watch off Ari’s t-shirt.

Ari says, HEY!

Elinor tries to stick Ari’s watch to a chair. It slides off.

(Sighing)

Elinor says,
BUT IT DOESN'T STICK TO
EVERYTHING.

Ari replies,
HUH, THAT IS INTERESTING.

Olive carries a large stack of books into the classroom.

She says,
WELL, I FOUND SOME FUN BOOKS,
BUT NONE ABOUT MYSTERIOUS
SCRATCHY PATCHES THAT STICK TO
THINGS.

Ari adds,
OR DON'T STICK TO THINGS.
THAT'S THE MYSTERY!

Elinor says,
HMM, I HAVE AN IDEA.
LET'S TRY STICKING THE PATCH TO
A LOT OF THINGS, AND SEE WHAT IT
DOES AND DOESN'T STICK TO.
MAYBE THAT WILL TELL US HOW IT
WORKS.

Olive holds up a pencil and a notepad. She makes a chart.

Olive says,
I'LL WRITE IT DOWN!
STICKS TO, DOESN'T STICK TO.
READY!

Elinor says,
OKAY, LET'S SEE.
WE KNOW IT STICK TO ARI'S
SWEATER.
AND WE KNOW IT DOESN'T STICK TO
THE CHAIR.

Elinor, Olive, and Ari say, HMM.

Ari asks, HOW ABOUT THE RUG?

Ari’s watch sticks to the rug.

Elinor says,
RUG...
YES, IT STICKS!
CHALKBOARD...
NO!
OLIVE'S TRUNK...

(Giggling)

Ari’s watch slides down Olive’s trunk.

Olive says,
NO!
SO THE PATCH STICKS TO ARI'S
SWEATER AND THE RUG.
AND NOTHING ELSE?

Elinor replies, HMM...

Ari looks out the window. The monarch butterfly flies past.

Ari says,
LET'S TRY SOME THINGS
OUTSIDE!

Elinor says, YEAH, GOOD IDEA!

Elinor and Olive hurry outside. Ari flaps his wings.

He shouts, WE'RE GOING OUTSIDE!

Ari runs outside.

Elinor, Olive, and Ari cheer,
RECESS, YAY!

(Cheering)

Other students play on the slide and the swings.

Elinor points to a tree.

She says,
OOH, LET'S TRY THAT TREE!

(Giggling)

Olive and Ari follow Elinor to the tree.

Elinor places the watch on the tree trunk. It falls to the ground.

Elinor says,
TREE...
NO.

Elinor, Olive, and Ari say, HMM....

Elinor shouts,
WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!
LET'S GO!

Elinor leads Olive and Ari across a creek.

They sing,
WE WANT TO SOLVE THE MYSTERY

(Whistling)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari sing,
OF HOW THIS STICKS SO STICKILY

(Whistling)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari sing,
WE'RE GOING TO TRY IT HERE
AND THERE
AND EVERYWHERE
WHEN I HAVE A QUESTION
I DON'T KNOW

(Chirping along to the tune)

Blue birds fly past Elinor, Olive and Ari.

Elinor, Olive and Ari sing,
I LOOK FOR ANSWERS
HIGH AND LOW

(Whistling)

Elinor, Olive and Ari sing,
WE'RE GOING TO TRY THE ROCKS
THIS LOG
AND EVEN THIS FROG
INTO THE WOODS
AND UNDER THE TREES
WE FOLLOW OUR CURIOSITY

Olive walks through the forest with Elinor and Ari. She looks at her chart.

Olive says,
OKAY, THE SCRATCHY PATCH
STICKS TO SWEATERS AND RUGS,
BUT NOT ANYTHING ELSE.

Elinor responds,
HMM, I DON'T SEE HOW IT WORKS.
DO YOU GUYS?

Olive shakes her head.

She says, UH-UH

Ari adds,
NOPE, IT'S SUCH A STICKY MYSTERY!
AUGH!
WHAT'S THIS?
YEOW!

Brown prickly seeds stick to Ari’s shirt.

He shouts,
THESE SEEDS WON'T COME OFF!

Elinor hurries to Ari and looks at the seeds.

She says, OH...

(Laughing)

(Panting)

Elinor pulls the seeds off Ari’s shirt. She looks at one.

(Tearing noises)

Elinor says, OOOH...

Ari says,
PHEW, THANKS!
HEY!

Elinor sticks a seed back onto Ari’s shirt and rips it off again.

She says,
LOOK, THIS SEED STICKS TO
ARI'S SWEATER JUST LIKE THE
SCRATCHY PATCH!
IT EVEN MAKES THE SAME SOUND!
I WONDER…

Elinor sticks the seed to Ari’s watch strap.

Ari says, WHOA...

Elinor says,
THE SEED ALSO STICKS TO THE
FUZZY PART OF THE STRAP!
WHAT IS THIS LITTLE SEED?

Ari takes a closer look at the seed.

He says,
LOOK AT ALL THOSE LITTLE
HOOKS.

Elinor asks,
IS THAT WHAT MAKES THE SEED
STICK TO THE SWEATER?
IT LOOKS LIKE THE LITTLE HOOKS
GRAB THE FUZZINESS OF THE
SWEATER.

Ari replies,
HMMM.
THE PATCH ON THE STRAP ALSO
HAS LITTLE HOOKS!

Olive adds,
THEY'RE EVEN TINIER.
I HADN'T SEEN THEM BEFORE.

Elinor says,
HMM...
LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT
THE STRAP AGAIN.

Elinor sticks the strap of the watch together and pulls it apart.

Ari says, OH, I GET IT.

Elinor adds,
THAT'S HOW IT WORKS!
IT'S THE TINY LITTLE HOOKS THAT
MAKE THE PATCH STICKY.
BUT THE HOOKS NEED SOMETHING
FUZZY WITH LITTLE LOOPS TO GRAB
ONTO.

Olive makes a note on her chart.

She says,
YEAH!
THAT'S WHY THE PATCH ONLY STICKS
TO THESE FUZZY THINGS, AND NOT
TO THESE OTHER THINGS THAT
AREN'T FUZZY.
THESE THINGS DON'T HAVE LITTLE
LOOPS FOR THE HOOKS TO GRAB!

Ari adds, WE SOLVED THE MYSTERY!

Elinor says, LET'S TELL MS. MOLE!

(Cheering)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari run back to school.

Elinor says, LET'S GO!

(Giggling)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari climb the ladder to the slide. Elinor slides down first.

She says, YAY!

Ari slides down the slide.

He says, WHOO-HOO!

Olive slides down the slide.

(Cheering)

Elinor, Olive, and Ari hurry to Ms. Mole who is sitting on a rock.

Elinor says,
MS. MOLE, WE FIGURED IT OUT!

(Panting)

Olive shouts,
IT'S THE LITTLE HOOKS ON THE
PATCH!

Ari adds,
THEY MAKE THE STRAP STICK
TOGETHER!

Elinor says,
BUT THE HOOKS ONLY STICK TO
THINGS THAT ARE FUZZY AND HAVE
LITTLE LOOPS IN THEM.
THE HOOKS ON THE PATCH GRAB
LOOPS ON THE FUZZY PART AND
STICK TOGETHER!
AND THEN...

(Imitates velcro tearing)

(Sniffing)

Ms. Mole replies,
MY, I SMELL SOME CLEVER
LITTLE SCIENTISTS.
I KNEW YOU WOULD FIGURE IT OUT!

Elinor says,
WE FIGURED IT OUT BY LOOKING
AT THIS SPIKY SEED.

Elinor shows Ms. Mole the seed. Ms. Mole’s book is open to a picture of the same seed.

She replies,
HMM, YES, THAT'S THE SEED IN
MY BOOK.
THE STRAP AND THE SEED WORK THE
SAME WAY.
WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?

(Gasping)

Ari asks,
DID THE SEED COPY THE IDEA
FROM THE WATCH STRAP?

Olive says,
I THINK THAT WOULD BE SILLY.
WOULDN'T IT?

Elinor replies,
I BET THE IDEA FOR THE STRAP
CAME FROM THE SEED!

Ms. Mole says,
THAT'S RIGHT!
GEORGES DE MISTRAL WAS AN
INVENTOR WHO LIVED A LONG TIME
AGO.
HE LOVED TO GO FOR WALKS IN THE
WOODS, BUT ALWAYS CAME BACK WITH
SOME SEEDS STUCK TO HIS FUR
AND CLOTHES.

Elinor adds,
IT'S THE SAME SEEDS WE FOUND!

Ari chases the monarch butterfly across the schoolyard.

Ms. Mole says,
THAT'S RIGHT!
THE SEED HAS LITTLE HOOKS SO IT
CAN GRAB ON TO THINGS AND GROW
IN DIFFERENT PLACES.

Ari runs into a bush full of sticky seeds.

Ms. Mole adds,
GEORGES WONDERED IF HE COULD
USE THE SAME IDEA AND MAKE THE
HOOKS AND LOOPS HIMSELF.
THAT WAY, HE COULD GET OTHER
THINGS TO STICK TOGETHER.

(Velcro tearing)

Elinor replies,
WOW.
NATURE REALLY DOES HAVE SOME
GOOD IDEAS, MS. MOLE.
I'M GLAD WE WENT TO EXPLORE.

Elinor hops around Olive.

They sing,
INTO THE WOODS
AND UNDER THE TREES
WE FOLLOW OUR CURIOSITY

(Laughing)

Ms. Mole says,
WELL, I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT
YOU FOLLOWED YOUR CURIOSITY
AND FIGURED IT OUT YOURSELVES!

Ari crawls out of the bush covered in seeds.

Elinor and Olive scream, AH!

Ari pulls a seed off his shirt.

He adds,
YEAH, YOU COULD SAY WE REALLY
"STUCK" WITH IT!

(Laughing)

Ari shakes off the seeds as he flaps his wings. The seeds fall on Elinor and Olive.
