Elinor, a white rabbit with long straight dark brown hair, wears a red and purple dress. She runs on a dirt path and stops to look at a monarch butterfly perched on a grey rock.

[Happy music plays]

Elinor sings, WHEREVER I GO
I SEE THINGS THAT I WANT
TO KNOW,

WHEREVER I AM I FIND THINGS
I WANT TO UNDERSTAND.

GO AND EXPLORE, LISTEN AND SEE
JUST FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.

Elinor smiles as she sings on a swing on a swing set. Olive Elephant swings on a swing beside her. Olive wears a blue bow on her head, with a blue shirt, skirts and leggings. Ari Bat hands upside down from the bar on the top of the swing set.

Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor sings, WHY DO BIRDS SING?
AND HOW DO THEY FLY?

Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor watches ants through a magnifying glass.

Elinor sings WHY DO ANTS MARCH?
AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?

THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.

[Chiming]

Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?

Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.

Text above Elinor reads, “Elinor Wonders Why.” A magnifying glass with pink bunny ears replaces the letter ‘O’ in Elinor’s name.

[Upbeat music plays, bell rings]

A bird looks at a small school as the bird takes off.

[Flapping]

Text reads, “Ms. Mole’s Glasses.”

A voice says, MS. MOLE’S GLASSES.

Ms. Mole stands by the open front door of the school. She wears her curly red hair pulled away from her face. She wears a purple jackets over a purple shirt and skirt. She waves to pupils as they exit the school.

Ms. Mole says, GOODBYE, KIDS!
SEE YOU TOMORROW!

Text reads, “Directed by Kevin Micallef.”

[Whistling]

Ari stands with Elinor as Olive kneels beside a shelf. Ms. Mole walks past them.

Ari says, TODAY WAS THE BEST
DAY EVER. WE GOT TO PLAY
HOPSCOTCH AND HAD MILK FOR
A SNACK!

Elinor says, BUT, ARI, WE PLAY
HOPSCOTCH AND HAVE MILK
EVERY DAY.

Ari says, AND THAT'S WHY EVERY
DAY IS THE BEST DAY EVER, ELINOR.

[Elinor laughs, rustling]

Text reads, “Written by Rachel Lipman.”

Olive says, OKAY, I'M READY.

Ari shouts, BYE, MS. MOLE!

Ms. Mole says, GOODBYE, KIDS!

Elinor asks, MS. MOLE?

[Rustling]

Ms. Mole says, YES, ELINOR?

Elinor asks, WHAT DO YOU DO
AFTER SCHOOL IS FINISHED?

Ms. Mole says, OH, I DO LOTS OF
THINGS, ELINOR.

TODAY, I'M DOING SOME SHOPPING.

[Surprised music plays]

Ari says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA.
WAIT A MINUTE.

YOU MEAN TEACHERS GO PLACES
BESIDES SCHOOL?

[Ms. Mole laughs]

Ms. Mole says, SURE.

WE TEACHERS ARE JUST LIKE
EVERYBODY ELSE, ARI.

Ari says, WOW.

[Upbeat music plays]

Olive asks, WHAT ARE YOU
SHOPPING FOR, MS. MOLE?

Ms. Mole takes off her eyeglasses.

She says, WELL, OLIVE--

[Blows on glasses]

Ms. Mole says,--FIRST, I'M GOING
TO GET SOME FRESH BREAD FROM
MR. RACCOON'S BAKERY.

Ari says, OOH, I LOVE FRESH
BREAD. IT SMELLS SO YUMMY.

[Elinor laughs]

Elinor says, I THINK WE BETTER
GO GET ARI A SNACK, MS. MOLE.

Olive says, BYE, SEE YOU TOMORROW!

Ari, Elinor, and Olive walk away from Ms. Mole’s desk.

Ms. Mole says, HAVE FUN, KIDS!

Ms. Mole cleans her glasses with a cloth.

[Exhaling, squeaking]

As leaves fall of trees, Ari, Elinor, and Olive walk out of the school. Ms. Mole follows and closes the school door behind her. She turns and walks in a different direction from the children.

[Door closes]

Ari says, I DIDN'T KNOW TEACHERS
DID THINGS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.
I THOUGHT THEY LIVED IN
THE SCHOOL.

[Elinor laughs]

Elinor says, ARI, IF MS. MOLE LIVED
IN THE SCHOOL, WHERE WOULD
SHE SLEEP?

Ari says, YOU MEAN TEACHERS SLEEP,
TOO? MIND-BLOWING.

[Elinor and Olive laugh]

[Olive gasps]

[Mellow music plays]

Olive says, WAIT. I FORGOT MY
NOTEBOOK. I MUST HAVE LEFT
IT ON MY CHAIR.

Elinor says, LET'S GO BACK AND
GET IT.

[Squeak, gasp]

Olive runs to a chair and uses her trunk to pick up a green notebook.

Olive says, I FOUND
MY NOTEBOOK!

Elinor says, GREAT!
GOOD THING WE CAME BACK.

[Olive gasps]

Olive runs to Ms. Mole’s desk. She picks up Ms. Mole’s eyeglasses.

Olive says, MS. MOLE'S GLASSES!
MS. MOLE LEFT THESE ON
HER DESK.

Ari says, UH-OH.

Elinor says, SHE WAS CLEANING
THEM BEFORE. SHE MUST HAVE
FORGOTTEN TO PUT THEM
BACK ON.

Olive asks, DO YOU THINK SHE
NEEDS THEM?

Ari says, MY DAD USES GLASSES.
HE SAYS HE CAN'T SEE ANYTHING
WITHOUT THEM.

Olive says, OH, NO. WHAT IF
MS. MOLE NEEDS THEM TO SEE?

Elinor says, HMM...

Olive says, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

Elinor says, LET'S FIND MS. MOLE
AND GIVE HER BACK HER GLASSES.

Ari says, YEAH, GOOD IDEA!
BUT HOW DO WE FIND HER?

Olive says, MM... SHE SAID SHE
WAS GOING TO THE BAKERY FIRST.

Elinor says, THEN LET'S GO TO THE
BAKERY. COME ON!

Elinor, Olive, and Ari leave the school.

[Upbeat music plays, door opens, door closes]

Blue birds fly over a town.

[Chirping, bell rings upbeat music plays]

Ms. Mole says, GOODBYE, MR. RACCOON!

[Whistling]

Elinor says, COME ON, WE'RE
ALMOST THERE!

[Sniffing]

Ari says, MMM, SOMETHING SURE
SMELLS GOOD AROUND HERE.

[Flapping]

Ms. Raccoon puts a loaf of breads on a wire shelf.

[Door opens, bell rings]

Elinor says, HI, MR. RACCOON.

Mr. Raccoon says, WELL, HELLO,
ELINOR, OLIVE, AND ARI. HOW
CAN I HELP YOU?

[Ari sniffs]

Ari says, IT SMELLS SO GOOD HERE.

Elinor agrees, IT SURE DOES, ARI.

[Mr. Raccoon laughs]

Elinor says, MR. RACCOON, WE'RE
LOOKING FOR MS. MOLE.

OLIVE FOUND HER GLASSES IN
THE CLASSROOM, AND WE WANT
TO GIVE THEM BACK TO HER.

Mr. Raccoon says, AW, HOW NICE
OF YOU.

SHE WAS HERE A MINUTE AGO, AND
I DID NOTICE SHE WASN'T WEARING
HER GLASSES. BUT SHE HAD NO
TROUBLE PICKING OUT A NICE LOAF
OF PUMPERNICKEL BREAD.

Elinor says, I WONDER... HOW DID
MS. MOLE PICK OUT THE PUMPERNICKEL
BREAD WITHOUT HER GLASSES?

Ari walks across the bakery.

[Ari sniffs]

Ari says, HERE IS THE
PUMPERNICKEL BREAD.

[Sniffing, sighing]

Ari says, OH, IT SMELLS SO GOOD!

Ari flies across the bakery.

[Sniffing, flapping, sighing]

Ari says, OOH, AND HERE'S
THE SOURDOUGH. MMM...

Elinor says, THAT'S IT! SHE MUST
HAVE SMELLED THE BREAD!

[Olive sniffs]

Olive says, I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT.

Mr. Raccoon says, WELL, I DO BAKE
THE BEST-SMELLING BREAD
IN TOWN.

OF COURSE, I'M ALSO THE ONLY
BAKER IN TOWN.

[Mr. Raccoon laughs]

Mr. Raccoon says, AND ALL MY
BREADS SMELL DIFFERENT.
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TRY
TO SMELL WHICH ONE IS WHICH.

[Sniffing, shuffling]

Ari says, I SMELL... RYE BREAD.

Elinor says, I THINK--

[Sniffing]

Elinor says, --I SMELL SOURDOUGH.

[Sniffing]

Olive says, YUM! THAT'S DEFINITELY
BANANA BREAD, MY FAVOURITE.

Mr. Raccoon says, YOU'RE EACH RIGHT.
NOW, GO AHEAD TASTE THE SAMPLES.

Ari shouts, YES!

Ari, Elinor, and Olive each take a sample of bread off of a round tray.

[Noisy eating]

[Peaceful music plays]

Olive says, YUMMY.
THANKS, MR. RACCOON.

Elinor says, WAIT. WE STILL
NEED TO FIND MS. MOLE.
DID SHE SAY WHERE SHE
WAS GOING?

Mr. Raccoon says, WHY, YES.
SHE SAID SHE WAS GOING TO
THE FRUIT STAND NEAR THE
PARK. MAYBE YOU CAN FIND
HER THERE.

[Zipping]

Elinor says, THANKS, MR. RACCOON!

Mr. Raccoon says, GOODBYE.

[Whistling]

Ms. Mole says, AND NOW TO
GET SOME FRUIT.

Ms. Mole walks to a fruit stand. Ms. Llama wears a white chef’s hat on her brown curly hair.

Ms. Llama says, HI, MS. MOLE.
HOW ARE YOU TODAY?

Ms. Mole says, I'M WELL, MS. LLAMA.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. HMM...

[Upbeat music plays]

Elinor says, I GUESS MS. MOLE
DIDN'T NEED HER GLASSES TO
PICK OUT THE BREAD.

Olive says, SHE JUST USED
HER NOSE.

Elinor points.

Elinor says, THERE'S MS. LLAMA'S
FRUIT STAND.

Ari throws bread into the air. He flips and catches the bread in his mouth.

[Slide whistle, crunching]

Elinor says, HI, MS. LLAMA!

Ms. Llama says, OH, HELLO, KIDS.
WHAT CAN I HELP YOU WITH TODAY?

Elinor says, WE'RE LOOKING FOR
OUR TEACHER, MS. MOLE.

Ms. Mole says, YOU KIDS JUST MISSED
HER. SHE WAS HERE A MINUTE AGO.

Elinor says, AW. WE FOUND HER
GLASSES, AND WE'RE TRYING TO
RETURN THEM TO HER.

Ms. Llama says, HOW NICE OF YOU.

I DID NOTICE SHE WASN'T WEARING
HER GLASSES. BUT SHE HAD NO
TROUBLE PICKING OUT THE FRUITS
SHE WANTED.

SHE GOT THREE APPLES, TWO
ORANGES, AND SOME GRAPES.

Ari asks, HOW DID MS. MOLE KNOW
WHICH FRUIT TO PICK?

THE FRUITS DON'T REALLY SMELL
THAT MUCH.

[Sniffing]

AND THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS.

Ari, Elinor, and Olive say, HMM...

Elinor touches a red apple.

Elinor says, OOH, FEEL HOW
SMOOTH THIS APPLE IS.

[Upbeat music plays]

Olive says, AND FEEL THIS
ORANGE. IT'S GOT LITTLE BUMPS.

Ari says, THESE GRAPES ARE
SMALL AND ROUND.

OOH, AND A LITTLE SQUISHY.

[Squishing]

Olive says, THE FRUITS ALL
FEEL DIFFERENT.

Elinor says, THAT'S IT!

MS. MOLE MUST HAVE USED HER
HANDS TO FEEL WHICH FRUIT
WAS WHICH!

Ms. Llama says, THAT'S RIGHT,
ELINOR. FRUIT CAN BE DIFFERENT
SIZES, BIGGER AND SMALLER, AND
ALSO HAVE DIFFERENT TEXTURES.

THAT MEANS THEY FEEL DIFFERENT,
LIKE HOW THE ORANGES FEEL BUMPY
AND THE APPLES FEEL SMOOTH WHEN
YOU HOLD THEM IN YOUR HAND.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY SOME
APPLE SLICES BEFORE YOU GO?

Elinor says, THANKS.

Olive says, YEAH.

Ari says, SURE.

[Crunching, noisy eating]

Elinor says, THANKS FOR THE
FRUIT, MS. LLAMA.

HMM, DO YOU KNOW WHERE
MS. MOLE WAS GOING NEXT?

Ms. Llama says, SHE SAID SHE
WAS GOING TO THE PARK.

Elinor says, THANKS!

Olive says, SHE HAS BREAD AND
FRUIT. MAYBE SHE'S GOING TO
HAVE A PICNIC.

[Happy music plays]

Elinor says, LET'S GO AND FIND HER!
BYE, MS. LLAMA!

Ms. Mole sits on a blue blanket under a tree in the park.

[Birds chirp, creak water burbles]

Elinor asks, NOW, WHERE IS
MS. MOLE?

Ari says, I'LL LOOK AROUND HERE.
DO YOU WANT TO LOOK UP
THAT PATH?

Elinor says, SURE.

Ari walks to the edge of a bridge over a creek. He looks right and left.

[Suspenseful music plays, rustling]

Ari shouts, HEY, ELINOR! OLIVE!
HEY, OLIVE! I DON'T SEE MS. MOLE!

DO YOU SEE HER ANYWHERE
THAT WAY?

Elinor shouts, WHAT?

Ari shouts, I SAID, HAVE YOU
SEEN MS. MOLE?

Ms. Mole peeks around a tree trunk behind Elinor and Olive.

Ms. Mole says, BOO!

Elinor and Olive scream, AH!

Ms. Mole asks, IS SOMEBODY
LOOKING FOR ME?

[Laughing]

Olive says, MS. MOLE, WE'VE
BEEN LOOKING ALL OVER FOR
YOU. HOW DID YOU FIND US?

Elinor asks, YEAH, HOW, MS. MOLE?

[Laughing

Ms. Mole says, OH, IT WAS EASY.
I COULD HEAR YOU.

WE MOLES HAVE GREAT HEARING,
ESPECIALLY FOR LOUD THINGS,
LIKE LITTLE BATS.

Ari says, LIKE ME!

[Elinor and Olive laugh]

Olive says, YOU LEFT YOUR
GLASSES IN THE CLASSROOM,
MS. MOLE, SO WE WANTED TO
BRING THEM TO YOU.

Ms. Mole says, WHY, THANK YOU.
THAT'S VERY KIND OF YOU TO
TRACK ME ALL THE WAY TO
THE PARK.

Ms. Mole puts on her eyeglasses.

[Upbeat music plays]

Ms. Mole says, AH, THAT'S A
BIT BETTER.

Olive asks, CAN YOU SEE
REALLY WELL NOW, MS. MOLE?

Ms. Mole says, NO, MY GLASSES
HELP ME SEE BETTER, BUT NOT
PERFECTLY. AND THAT'S OKAY.
DO YOU KNOW WHY?

Ari asks, WHY?

Ms. Mole says, MOLES LIKE ME
DON'T NEED STRONG EYES.

WE LIVE IN DARK TUNNELS,
SO WE USE OUR NOSES AND OUR
EARS AND OUR PAWS TO
GET AROUND.

A thought bubble appears above Ms. Mole. In the bubble, she pushes open a door in the ground and looks outside.

[Creaking, sniffing]

Elinor says, OH, NOW, WE GET IT.
YOU USED YOUR NOSE TO SMELL
THE LOAF OF BREAD.

AND YOU USED YOUR HANDS FEEL
THE FRUIT TO TELL THEM APART.

Olive says, AND YOU USED YOUR EARS
TO HEAR US AND FIND US IN THE PARK.

[Upbeat music plays]

Ms. Mole says, VERY GOOD!
I'M GLAD YOU UNDERSTAND.

Ms. Mole sings, WHEN I NEED TO KNOW
WHERE I SHOULD GO
I SOMETIMES SMELL,

[Sniffing]

Ms. Mole sings, USING MY NOSE.

WHEN I NEED TO CHOOSE
SOMETHING I WANT
I SOMETIMES FEEL
USING MY HANDS.

IN THIS GREAT BIG WORLD
THERE IS SO MUCH TO KNOW

WHEN I NEED TO FIND
THINGS THAT ARE NEAR
I SOMETIMES HEAR
USING MY EARS.

IN THIS GREAT BIG WORLD
THERE IS SO MUCH TO KNOW
SO MUCH TO HEAR AND SMELL
AND SEE
WHAT DO YOU KNOW.

Ms. Mole says, AND NOW, LET'S
HAVE A PICNIC!

Olive and Elinor cheer, YAY!

Ari says, AWESOME!
I LOVE A PICNIC. TASTE IS MY
FAVOURITE SENSE TO USE.

Ari reaches for fruit.

Ms. Mole says, AH-AH-AH, ARI!

Ari says, OH.

[Laughing]

Ms. Mole says, LET'S WAIT
FOR EVERYONE TO SIT
DOWN FIRST.

Elinor says, WAIT, MS. MOLE.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ARI WAS
REACHING FOR THE FRUIT?

Olive asks, DID YOU SEE, SMELL,
OR HEAR ARI?

Ms. Mole says, OH, I DON'T NEED
MY EYES, NOSE, OR EARS TO KNOW
THAT ARI IS ALWAYS HUNGRY.

I JUST USE MY HEAD!

[Laughing, upbeat music plays]]

Elinor watches Ari as he stands on a large tree stump. Olive stands in front of Mr. Dog. He wears a brown sweater over a light green shirt and tie.

Olive says, MR. DOG, WE'RE
LOOKING FOR SEÑOR TAPIR.

Mr. Dog says, I CAN HELP.
WATCH THIS TRICK.

[Mr. dog sniffs]

Mr. Dog finds Señor Tapir leaning against a tree. Señor Tapir holds a guitar.

Mr. Dog says, HELLO,
SEÑOR TAPIR.

Señor Tapir says, WOW!
YOUR NOSE FOUND ME.

THAT REMINDS ME OF A SONG
ABOUT A SCIENTIST NAMED
ALEXANDRA HOROWITZ.

Señor Tapir sits on the tree stump.

[Upbeat music plays]

Señor Tapir sings, SOME USE THEIR EYES
TO TELL WHO IS WHO,
THAT ONE IS JIM
THIS ONE IS LOU.

A DOG'S BEST SENSE
COMES FROM THEIR NOSE,
IS THAT HOW THEY TELL MIKE
FROM ROSE?

PROFESSOR HOROWITZ WONDERED
THAT TOO,
WHAT DO DOGS USE TO TELL WHO
IS WHO?

SHE DID A TEST
SHE FOUND A SURPRISE,
DOGS USE THEIR NOSE
LIKE WE USE OUR EYES.

JUST ONE SNIFF WITH A DOG'S
SUPER NOSE,
THEIR WORLD COMES ALIVE
WITH SCENTS THAT IT KNOWS.

ROSE HAS A SMELL
MIKE DOES AS WELL
FOR DOGS IT IS CLEAR
MIKE IS RIGHT HERE.

JUST ONE SNIFF WITH A DOG'S
SUPER NOSE,
THE WORLD COMES ALIVE
WITH SCENTS THAT IT KNOWS.

JUST ONE SNIFF WITH A DOG'S
SUPER NOSE,
THE WORLD COMES ALIVE
WITH SCENTS THAT IT KNOWS.

[Howls word “knows”]

[Birds chirp]

Señor Tapir says, SO, YOU SEE,
DOGS USE THEIR SENSE OF
SMELL TO FIGURE OUT WHO
IS WHO.

[Upbeat music plays]

Text reads, “Elinor Stops the Squish.”

A voice says, ELINOR STOPS
THE SQUISH.

A black and orange monarch butterfly flutters past a small yellow schoolhouse with an orange roof.

Text reads, “Directed by Kevin Micallef.”

Ms. Mole wears a purple jacket, shirt and skirt as she stands in front of a classroom full of children.

Ms. Mole says, AND THAT'S THE
END OF THE LESSON, KIDS.

WHICH MEANS IT'S TIME FOR...
SNACK TIME!

[Children cheer, upbeat music plays]

Ari says, OOH, IT'S SNACK TIME,
SNACK TIME.

I LOVE SNACK TIME!
LET'S SEE WHAT I GOT!

[Zipper unzips]

Ari says, I GOT--

(UNHAPPILY) HUH, CARROT STICKS.

[Rustling]

Elinor says, ARI, YOU GOT
CARROT STICKS?

I LOVE CARROT STICKS!
THEY'RE MY FAVOURITE.

LET'S SEE WHAT I GOT.

Elinor says unhappily, MM, RAISINS.

Ari says, ELINOR, YOU GOT
RAISINS? THAT'S AWESOME!
RAISINS ARE MY FAVOURITE!

[Triumphant music plays]

Ari and Elinor say, WANT TO SHARE?

Elinor asks, OLIVE, DID YOU FIND
YOUR SNACK?

Olive searches in her pink bag.

Olive says, IT'S IN HERE SOMEWHERE.

[Grunting]

AHA, FOUND IT!

Olive says, ELINOR, ARI, DID
YOU NOTICE? IT'S MS. MOLE'S
BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!

Olive points at a calendar.

Ari says, UH... TEACHERS
HAVE BIRTHDAYS?

[Elinor giggles]

Elinor says, OF COURSE THEY
DO. LET'S DO SOMETHING NICE
FOR HER.

Olive says, OKAY. WE COULD...
MAKE HER A PICTURE.

Ms. Mole uses a brush to clean a chalkboard.

[Brushing, Ms. Mole sneezes, rustling]

Drawings blow off the chalkboard. Ms. Mole picks them up and sticks them on the chalkboard.

She says, OH.

[Upbeat music plays]

Ari shouts, BLESS YOU!

SHE ALREADY HAS A LOT
OF PICTURES.

Elinor asks, HOW ABOUT A CRAFT?

[Brushing]

Olive looks at crafts on Ms. Mole’s desk.

Olive says, HMM... SHE HAS A LOT
OF THOSE, TOO. I KNOW! I'LL BRING
HER A CUPCAKE TOMORROW. MY
MOM MADE A WHOLE BATCH
FOR HER BOOK CLUB.

[Elinor gasps]

Olive says, IN FACT--

[Trumpeting, rustling]

Olive says, --I GOT ONE FOR
A SNACK! AW, IT'S SQUISHED.
I WONDER HOW THAT HAPPENED.

Elinor says, IT MUST HAVE
GOTTEN SQUISHED INSIDE
YOUR BAG.

Ari says, YOU DO CARRY A LOT
OF STUFF WITH YOU, OLIVE.

Olive says, BUT I NEED ALL MY
BOOKS WITH ME.

Ms. Mole asks, IS EVERYTHING
ALRIGHT, KIDS?

Olive hides the cupcake behind her back.

[Dramatic music plays]

Olive says, YES!

[Ari and Elinor gasp]

Ari says, THERE'S NO CUPCAKE!

Ari falls forward on the floor.

[Slide whistle, thump, Ari chuckles nervously]

Ms. Mole says, HUH? AH. OKAY.

[Brushing]

Ari says, PHEW! GOOD THING
WE DIDN'T MENTION CUPCAKES.

I'D HATE TO SPOIL THE SURPRISE.

Elinor says, YEAH.

[Ari laughs sheepishly]

Olive says, WELL, I'D HATE TO
SPOIL THE CUPCAKE TOMORROW.

WHAT IF IT GOES SQUISH INSIDE
MY BAG LIKE THIS ONE?

[Boinging]

Elinor says, DON'T WORRY, OLIVE.
WE'LL JUST HAVE TO FIND A
WAY TO STOP THE SQUISH.

Elinor, Ari, and Olive leave the school.

[Relaxing music plays, birds chirp]

Elinor says, HMM... I KNOW.

MAYBE YOU COULD CARRY THE
CUPCAKE ON A PLATE SO IT
DOESN'T SQUISH.

Olive says, I COULD, BUT WHAT
IF I TRIP?

In a thought bubble above her head, Olive imagines sliding down a tree root as she carries the cupcake on a plate.

[Popping, grunting, slide whistle]

In the daydream, she says, OH...WHOA...

Olive imagines jumping on a fallen log.

[Grunting, slide whistle]

In the daydream, she says, WHOA!

In the daydream, Olive trips and falls. The cupcake bounces off of the plate.

[Grunting, slide whistle]

In the present, Ari says, THAT
WOULD SQUISH IT, ALRIGHT.

WHAT IF I FLY IT TO SCHOOL?

Ari imagines carrying the cupcake as he flies.

[Upbeat music plays]

In his daydream, Ari drops the cupcake on Ms. Mole’s head.

[Slide whistle]

Ari says, WHOA!

Elinor says, THAT MIGHT
SQUISH THE CUPCAKE, TOO.

A voice calls, HEADS UP!

[Gasping]

A blue ball bounces off of a turtle’s shell. The turtle pulls its head into the shell and hides.

Elinor says, OH, NO!
POOR TURTLE!

Rollie, a young, dark yellow armadillo, runs to the turtle.

Rollie says, SORRY!

IS THE TURTLE OKAY?

The turtle pokes its head out of its shell.

[Slide whistle, mellow music plays]

Ari says, PHEW!
YEAH, HE'S OKAY.

Olive says, HE HARDLY
EVEN NOTICED.

Elinor says, THE BALL JUST
BOUNCED OFF HIS SHELL.

Olive says, YEAH, TURTLES HAVE
REALLY HARD SHELLS. I READ
ABOUT IT IN MY NATURE BOOK.

EVERY TURTLE IS BORN WITH A
SHELL, AND THEY WILL GROW
BIGGER AS THEY GET OLDER.

Ari exclaims, WHOA!

Olive says, THEY HAVE SHELLS
TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM
OTHER ANIMALS.

Ari adds, AND BALLS.

Elinor says, COOL!

Olive asks, WHAT ARE YOU
PLAYING, ROLLIE?

[Upbeat music plays]

Rollie says, OH, MY SISTER AND
I ARE JUST PLAYING BALL.

Rollie throws the ball into the air and bounces it off his shell.

[Thunking]

Elinor catches the ball.

Elinor asks, DOESN'T
THAT HURT?

Rollie says, WE ARMADILLOS
HAVE A PROTECTIVE SHELL, SEE?

[Knocking]

Ari says, JUST LIKE A TURTLE!
CAN YOU HIDE YOUR HEAD AND
YOUR ARMS INSIDE YOUR
SHELL, TOO?

Rollie says, UH, NO, BUT I CAN
ROLL UP REALLY TIGHT.

Rollie rolls into a ball.

[Whooshing]

Ari says, WHOA!

Olive says, IT'S LIKE YOU TURNED
INTO A BALL.

[Rollie talks, muffled]

Ari asks, WHAT DID YOU SAY, ROLLIE?

Rollie says, I SAID THIS SHELL HELPS
PROTECT ME.

[Ari, Elinor, and Olive laughs]

[Knocking, whoosh, birds chirp]

Rollie says, NICE AND HARD.
ANYWAY, I GOT TO ROLL.
SEE YOU LATER!

Olive says, WOW.
THAT'S SO COOL.

Ari says, IT'S LIKE HE HAS A
HELMET FOR HIS WHOLE BODY!

Elinor watches the turtle walk on a dirt path as Ari flies the other way.

[Flapping, crunching, upbeat music plays]

Elinor says, HMM...

[Birds chirp]

Ari says, PHEW!
SPEAKING OF "WHOLE BODY,"
MY WHOLE BODY IS THIRSTY.

Ms. Llama stands behind her fruit stand.

Ms. Llama says, WELL, YOU CAME
TO THE RIGHT PLACE.

[Birds chirp]

Elinor says, HELLO, MS. LLAMA.

Ms. Llama asks, WOULD YOU LIKE
A FREE SAMPLE OF COCONUT WATER?

Elinor says, YES, PLEASE!
THANKS, MS. LLAMA.

Olive picks up a coconut with her trunk.

Olive asks, OOH, CAN I SQUEEZE
OUT THE JUICE? I DO IT ALL THE
TIME WITH ORANGES.

Ms. Llama says, OH, BUT COCONUTS
ARE A BIT DIFFERENT THAN ORANGES.

[Grunting, straining]

Olive says, WOW. THE OUTSIDE
OF THIS COCONUT IS HARD.

[Knocking]

Ari says, I THINK YOU HAVE
TO PEEL IT FIRST, LIKE THIS.

[Scratching, grunting, bouncy music plays]

Ari asks, HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED
TO GET INTO THIS THING?

Ms. Llama says, YOU HAVE TO GO
THROUGH THE SHELL.

I'LL SHOW YOU.

Ms. Llama punches a hole in the coconut shell with a mallet and pick. She pours coconut water into three glasses.

[Grunting, liquid flowing]

Elinor says, SO THAT'S HOW
YOU GET COCONUT WATER OUT.

[Slurping]

Olive says, AH, IT'S DELICIOUS!

Ari says, YEAH, THANKS, MS. LLAMA.

Elinor asks, MS. LLAMA, WHY ARE
COCONUTS SO HARD?

Ms. Llama says, OH, GOOD QUESTION,
ELINOR. COCONUTS ARE THE FRUIT
OF PALM TREES.

[Popping, water sloshes, slide whistle, thud]

Ms. Llama imagines a palm tree growing on a small island. A coconut falls off the tree.

She says, PALM TREES GROW REALLY
HIGH, SO THE SHELL PROTECTS THE
COCONUT WHEN IT FALLS OFF
THE TREE.

THE SHELL ALSO PROTECTS THE
COCONUT UNTIL IT'S READY
TO GROW.

BECAUSE SOMETIMES, THE COCONUT
TRAVELS A LONG WAY BEFORE IT
FINDS JUST THE RIGHT PLACE
TO GROW.

[Thunking, water sloshes, slide whistle]

Elinor exclaims, WHOA!

Ari says, THAT IS C-C-COOL.

Ms. Llama says, YES, COCONUTS
ARE VERY INTERESTING.

AND WHAT BRINGS YOU TO
THE PARK TODAY, KIDS?

Olive says, WELL, MS. LLAMA,
WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT
HOW TO STOP THE SQUISH.

Ms. Llama asks, THE SQUISH?

Elinor holds the coconut and knocks on the shell.

[Knock]

Elinor says, HMM...

[Relaxing music plays]

Ari says, OLIVE WANTS TO BRING
A CUPCAKE TOMORROW FOR
MS. MOLE'S BIRTHDAY. BUT
EVERYTHING OLIVE PUTS IN
HER BAG GETS SQUISHED.

Olive says, I LIKE TO CARRY
A LOT OF THINGS.

Ms. Llama says, I SEE.

HUH, THAT IS A HARD PROBLEM.
OR A SOFT AND SQUISHY PROBLEM.

[Ms. Llama laughs, dramatic music plays]

Elinor says, THAT IS SO INTERESTING!

IT ISN'T JUST TURTLES AND
ARMADILLOS THAT HAVE SHELLS
TO PROTECT THEIR INSIDES.

COCONUTS HAVE THEM, TOO!

Ari says, HUH. THAT IS PRETTY COOL.

[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays]

Ms. Llama says, THAT'S RIGHT, ELINOR.

LOTS OF THINGS IN NATURE HAVE
SHELLS TO PROTECT THEM. LET'S
TAKE A LOOK AROUND AND SEE.

Elinor says, YEAH! WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.

Elinor, Ari, Olive, and Ms. Llama walk on a path in town.

[Upbeat music plays]

Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing, A SHELL, A SHELL
PROTECTED BY A SHELL,
A SHELL IS SUCH A CLEVER WAY
TO KEEP YOU SAFE AND WELL.

Elinor sings, THERE'S A BEETLE

Ari sings, LOOK HOW SMALL,

Olive sings, OOPS, IT BUMPED INTO
A WALL

Elinor sings, BUT SEE, IT DIDN'T
HURT AT ALL.
IT HAS A KIND OF SHELL.

Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing, A SHELL, A SHELL
PROTECTED BY A SHELL,
A SHELL IS SUCH A CLEVER WAY
TO KEEP YOU SAFE AND WELL.

Ari sings, YOU SEE THAT SNAIL?
I HAVE A HUNCH,
A BIRD WOULD LIKE HIM FOR
HER LUNCH.

Olive sings, BUT SHELLS ARE MUCH
TOO HARD TO CRUNCH.

Elinor sings, THAT'S WHY IT HAS
A SHELL.

Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing, A SHELL, A SHELL
PROTECTED BY A SHELL,
A SHELL IS SUCH A CLEVER WAY
TO KEEP YOU SAFE AND WELL.

The beetle flies off of the coconut.

[Fluttering]

Olive says, WOW, MS. LLAMA.
I NEVER KNEW SO MANY THINGS
IN NATURE HAD HARD OUTSIDES
TO PROTECT THEIR INSIDES.

Ms. Llama says, OH, YES, OLIVE.
SHELLS ARE VERY GOOD PROTECTION.

[Birds chirp]

Elinor says, AND I JUST GOT AN
IDEA OF HOW TO PROTECT
MS. MOLE'S CUPCAKE.

Stars twinkle around the full moon in the night sky.

[Crickets chirp, upbeat music plays]

Blue birds fly past the bright, yellow sun.

[Birds chirp]

Ms. Mole stands beside the school door as Rollie and Sally, a beaver in a purple dress, arrive for class.

[Upbeat music plays]

Ms. Mole says, HELLO, ROLLIE.
GOOD MORNING, SALLY.

Ari takes the coconut shell out of Olive’s bag. The shell has a line across the middle.

Olive says, I'VE NEVER GIFT-WRAPPED
SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE.

HOLD THE RIBBON TIGHT, ARI.

Elinor says, HURRY!

Olive wraps blue ribbon around Ari’s hands, tying them to the coconut shell.

[Ari gasps]

Elinor says, HERE COMES MS. MOLE!

[Birds chirp]

Olive whispers, OKAY, READY?

Elinor, Olive, and Ari say, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY, MS. MOLE!

Ms. Mole says, OH, MY!
WHAT A SURPRISE!

Ari says, WE GOT YOU
A BIRTHDAY--

[Grunts]

Ari says, --GIFT. HUH?
HEY, MY HAND IS STUCK!

[Grunting]

[Elinor gasps]

Elinor shouts, WATCH OUT!

Ari throws the coconut up into the air.

[Slide whistle]

Olive says, OH, NO!

[Gasping]

Ari says, I CAN'T LOOK!

[Upbeat music plays, whooshing]

The coconut lands on a red slide. It rolls down the slide and bounces to Ms. Mole’s feet.

[Rattling, thudding]

[Ms. Mole laughs]

Ms. Mole says, MY GOODNESS!
AND WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?

Elinor says, UH... BETTER OPEN
IT AND FIND OUT.

Ms. Mole says, OH, IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

[Pop]

Ari says, PHEW.

Ms. Mole says, THANK YOU, KIDS.

WHAT A CLEVER IDEA TO PUT
IT INSIDE A COCONUT SHELL.

Olive says, WE DID IT SO IT
WOULDN'T GET SQUISHED
IN MY BAG.

[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays]

Elinor says, WE NOTICED THAT
A LOT OF ANIMALS AND PLANTS
HAVE HARD OUTSIDES TO PROTECT
THEIR INSIDES.

SO WE MADE A COCONUT SHELL I
NTO A CUPCAKE CARRIER!

Ms. Mole says, AND THERE'S EVEN
A SNUG LITTLE POCKET TO HOLD
THE CUPCAKE!

[Birds chirp]

Ari explains, MS. LLAMA SCOOPED IT
OUT OF THE INSIDE OF THE COCONUT
FOR US.

Elinor says, THAT MEANS YOU'RE NOT
THE ONLY ONE WITH A SPECIAL SNACK
TODAY, MS. MOLE.

WE BROUGHT COCONUT TO SHARE!

[Cheering, children chatter, happy music plays]

[Upbeat music plays]
