Elinor, a white rabbit, has long black hair and bangs. She wears a red and purple dress as she walks through a forest.

Elinor sings, WHEREVER I GO
I SEE THINGS THAT I WANT TO
KNOW.

She admires a monarch butterfly.

Elinor sings, WHEREVER I AM
I FIND THINGS I WANT TO
UNDERSTAND.

Elinor swings on a swing set beside her friend Olive, an elephant, who wears a blue shirt and bow. Her friend Ari, a bat, perches on top of the swing set. He wears a green shirt. Ms. Mole reads a book on a rock nearby. She has curly red hair and wears a purple sweater.

Elinor sings, GO AND EXPLORE
LISTEN AND SEE
JUST FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.

She follows butterflies across a river.

Everyone sings, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Olive and Ari follow Elinor.

Elinor sings, WHY DO BIRDS SING?
AND HOW DO THEY FLY?

Everyone sings, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor and her friends watch ants march along a dirt path with leaves.

Elinor sings, WHY DO ANTS MARCH?
AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?

She watches ants walk into an ant hill with a magnifying glass.

She softly sings, THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.

At night, Elinor, Olive and Ari join Elinor’s mom, Ranger Rabbit. Fireflies fly around them.

Everyone sings, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Ari falls into a pile of leaves in the forest. Elinor laughs.

She sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?

Olive throws leaves over her friends.

Everyone sings, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.

Elinor plays in the forest with her friends.

She sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.

Olive and Ari make their way toward a town.

Title, Elinor Wonders Why. Created by Jorge Cham and Daniel Whiteson.

Elinor hops around outside her house. Spots of snow are scattered around her yard. She reads a title.

She reads, FEED THE BIRDS.

Snowflakes start to fall. Elinor gasps.

She says, IT'S STARTING TO SNOW!

Elinor wears a pink scarf and purple mittens . She giggles. Elinor wipes her nose and catches a snowflake on her tongue.

She says, HM.

Geese fly above Elinor, honking.

Elinor says, IT'S SOME GEESE FLYING SOUTH FOR
THE WINTER.
BYE, GEESE!
SEE YOU NEXT SPRING!

She waves and catches another snowflake on her tongue.

(Chirping)

Elinor gasps.

She says, I KNOW WHO THAT IS!

A bird lands on a tree branch.

Elinor says, CHICKY, I'M SO GLAD TO SEE YOU!
YOU'RE MY FAVORITE CHICKADEE
BIRD FRIEND.

Chicky chirps.

Elinor says, YOU SOUND HAPPY.
CHICK-A-DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE!

Chicky chirps and flies down onto a bush near Elinor’s house. Chicky takes a berry from the bush.

Elinor says, YUM, THAT BERRY LOOKS YUMMY.

Chicky chirps and flies away.

Elinor says, BYE, CHICKY!

She waves.

(Chirping)

Chicky returns.

Elinor says, OH, YOU'RE BACK?

Chicky takes another berry.

Elinor says, ANOTHER BERRY?
YOU MUST BE HUNGRY.

Chicky flies away.

Ranger Rabbit calls, ELINOR, TIME TO COME IN!

Elinor says, COMING MOM!
BYE, CHICKY!

She waves.

Inside, Elinor says, GUESS WHAT, MOM.
I SAW CHICKY TODAY!

It continues snowing in the night sky outside Elinor’s bedroom. Elinor and her mom wear pajamas. Elinor climbs onto her bed.

Ranger Rabbit says, OH, YOUR CHICKADEE BIRD
FRIEND?
HOW IS SHE?

Elinor says, SHE'S GREAT…

She frowns.

She says, …BUT WHY IS SHE
STILL HERE?

Ranger Rabbit asks, WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

Elinor says, MS. MOLE SAID BIRDS FLY
SOUTH WHERE IT'S WARM IN WINTER,
BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO FIND FOOD
WHEN THE SNOW COMES.

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT'S TRUE.

Elinor says, SO, WHY DIDN'T CHICKY FLY
SOUTH LIKE THE GEESE I SAW
TODAY?

Ranger Rabbit says, WELL, NOT ALL BIRDS FLY
SOMEWHERE WARM FOR THE WINTER,
ELINOR.
LOTS OF BIRDS STAY HERE, NOT
JUST CHICKY.
THE ONES THAT STAY ARE THE ONES
THAT CAN FIND FOOD.

She kisses Elinor’s forehead.

Ranger Rabbit says, MWAH, NOW, HAVE A GOOD SLEEP,
HONEY BUNNY.
I'LL SEE YOU IN THE MORNING.

Elinor pulls her blanket over her.

Ranger Rabbit says, SWEET DREAMS.

She flicks off the bedroom light.

(Door closing)

Elinor frowns and sits up.

She says, BUT HOW IS CHICKY GOING TO
FIND FOOD WITH ALL THE SNOW?

Elinor looks out here window where it continues to snow. During the day, Elinor steps out onto a porch to find the yard covered in snow. She wears her scarf and mittens.

She says, WOW, LOOK AT ALL THE SNOW!

She runs down the porch stairs and around to the side of the house.

Elinor says, UH-OH, THAT'S THE BUSH WHERE
CHICKY GOT THE BERRIES.
IT'S COVERED IN SNOW NOW.

She runs up to the bushes.

She says, CHICKY?
WHERE ARE YOU?
CHICKY!

Olive and Ari walk up to Elinor in warm clothes.

Ari says, HEY, ELINOR.

He eats a snack.

He asks, WHAT ARE YOU
DOING?

Elinor says, HI ARI, HI OLIVE.
I'M LOOKING FOR MY FRIEND
CHICKY.

Elinor calls out, CHICKY!

Olive says, OH, YOU MEAN THE LITTLE BIRD
WITH THE PRETTY BLACK FEATHERS
IN HER HEAD?

Elinor says, YEP, THAT'S HER.

Olive says, I LOVE HER, SHE'S SO
FRIENDLY.

Ari says, BUT DON'T BIRDS FLY SOUTH IN
THE WINTER?

Elinor says, NOT ALL OF THEM.
MY MOM SAID SOME BIRDS STAY
HERE.

(Munching)

Olive frowns.

She says, ARI, WHAT ARE YOU EATING?

Ari says, SUNFLOWER SEEDS!
WANT SOME?

Olive and Elinor both say, SURE!

They take some sunflower seeds from Ari. Olive uses her trunk.

(Crunching)

Elinor frowns.

She says, I'M A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT
CHICKY.

Olive asks, WHY?

Elinor says, YESTERDAY I SAW HER PICKING
SOME BERRIES FROM THAT LITTLE
BERRY BUSH.

She points to the snow covered bush.

Ari says, WHAT BUSH?
I DON'T SEE ANY BUSH.
JUST A LUMP OF SN—

A lump of snow falls off the bush.

Ari says, OOH, I GET IT.

Olive says, CHICKY'S BERRY BUSH IS
COVERED IN SNOW.

Ari says, YUP, EVERYTHING IS COVERED
IN SNOW.

Olive says, THEN HOW IS CHICKY GOING TO
FIND BERRIES?
OR ANY KIND OF FOOD?

Elinor says, MY MOM SAID BIRDS THAT STAY
HERE CAN FIND FOOD, BUT I DON'T
SEE HOW THEY CAN DO IT WITH ALL
THIS SNOW.

Olive says, HUH.

She and Elinor look thoughtful.

Elinor says, I KNOW, I'LL GET MY
BINOCULARS, AND WE'LL SEE IF WE
CAN FIND CHICKY.
WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!

She hops across the yard. Elsewhere, she looks through binoculars. Olive and Ari follow her as she searches the forest.

Olive says, SO, HOW DO BIRDS FIND FOOD IN
THE WINTER?

Ari says, MAYBE THEY ORDER PIZZA.

Olive says, MM, I DON'T THINK BIRDS HAVE
PHONES.

Ari says, RIGHT, GOOD POINT.

Olive says, I KNOW, MAYBE THEY PUT THEIR
FOOD IN LUNCH BOXES, LIKE WE DO.

Ari says, MAYBE, BUT HOW WOULD THEY
CARRY THEM?
THEY'RE WAY TOO BIG.

Elinor looks through her binoculars from behind a log.

Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
MAYBE THEY HAVE BACKPACKS?

Elinor says, LOOK, I SEE SOMETHING
FLUTTERING IN THE TREES!

Through her binoculars, a bird flies through the forest.

Olive says, LET'S GO CHECK IT OUT.

She takes her notebook out of her bag.

Elinor says, COME ON!

The friends go further into the forest. Elinor looks through her binoculars.

She says, OVER THERE!

Elinor looks at birds on a berry tree branch.

She says, THOSE BIRDS ARE EATING SOME
BERRIES.

Olive draws on her notepad. A berry bounces of Ari’s head. He catches it. He laughs with his friends. Elinor looks through her binoculars at a woodpecker taking a caterpillar out of a tree.

Elinor says, AND THAT BIRD IS PULLING BUGS
OUT OF THE TREE.

Olive says, WOW!

Ari says, COOL!

Olive draws a caterpillar.

Ari says, AND LOOK THOSE BIRDS ARE
EATING SEEDS FROM A SUNFLOWER.

Two birds take seeds from a sunflower on the ground. Olive draws a flower.

(Munching)

Elinor and olive frown. They look at Ari who’s eating more of his sunflower seeds. Ari shrugs and giggles. Olive laughs.

Elinor says, COME ON!

Ari eats more sunflower seeds. He follows his friends to the birds eating sunflower seeds.

Olive says, WOW, WINTER BIRDS FIND FOOD
IN ALL KINDS OF HIDDEN PLACES.
BERRIES, BUGS IN TREES,
SUNFLOWERS LEFT OVER FROM
SUMMER.

Ari munches on more sunflower seeds.

He says, ANYWHERE THEY CAN.

Elinor says, THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
BUT WHAT ABOUT CHICKY?
WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHERE SHE'S
GETTING HER FOOD.

(Chirping)

Elinor gasps. The friends look up and smile.

Elinor says, THAT'S CHICKY!
I KNOW IT'S HER BECAUSE SHE
ALWAYS GOES
"CHICK-A-DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE!"
COME ON!

The friends look around as they wander through the forest

Ari says, THERE SHE IS!

He points to a bird high up in a tree.

Olive says, WHAT'S SHE DOING?

Ari says, I'LL TAKE A CLOSER LOOK.

He flies up to Chicky. Elinor watches through her binoculars. Inside the tree is a collection of berries and seeds.

Ari says, HEY!

(Chirping)

Ari says, THERE ARE SEEDS AND
BERRIES INSIDE THIS TREE.

He flies back down to his friends.

Elinor says, I'LL BET CHICKY PUT THEM
THERE.
I SAW HER FLYING OFF WITH
BERRIES IN HER BEAK YESTERDAY.

Olive says, SMART CHICKY!
IT'S LIKE HER OWN LITTLE TREE
LUNCH BOX, SO I WAS SORT OF
RIGHT.

Ari says, SO, THAT'S HOW SHE GETS FOOD
DURING THE WINTER.
WHEN SHE'S HUNGRY SHE JUST GOES
TO THE TREE AND GETS SOME!

He frowns.

He says, BUT I
NOTICED THERE WEREN'T MANY SEEDS
IN THAT HOLE.

Ari looks worried.

Elinor says, UH-OH, WHAT IF CHICKY RUNS
OUT OF FOOD BEFORE THE END OF
WINTER?

Olive says, I KNOW, LET'S GIVE HER SOME
OF OUR SUNFLOWER SEEDS.

Ari says, GREAT IDEA!

He offers Olive his sunflower seeds. Olive takes some seeds with her trunk and holds them up toward Chicky.

She says, HERE YOU GO, CHICKY, SOME
NICE SEEDS FOR YOU.

(Chirping)

Chicky lands on Olive’s trunk and pecks at the seeds. Olive gasps. Chicky flies back to the tree.

Elinor and Ari say, WHOA!

Olive cheers, SHE LANDED ON ME!
SHE LANDED ON ME!
I CAN'T BELIEVE CHICKY LANDED ON
ME!

Chicky flies off the tree.

Elinor says, LET'S GO TELL MY MOM!

She starts to leave with Ari. Olive giggles and follows her friends.

Elinor says, AND THEN WE SAW BIRDS LOOKING
FOR FOOD IN ALL KINDS OF COOL
PLACES, MOM.

Ranger Rabbit sits at a table. Mr. Rabbit sleeps on a couch.

Ari says, LIKE BUGS INSIDE TREES.

Olive adds, AND LEFTOVER APPLES.

Ranger Rabbit says, YEP, IT'S TRICKY, BUT BIRDS
WHO STAY HERE IN WINTER FIND
FOOD ANYWHERE THEY CAN.
THAT'S CALLED FORAGING, WHEN YOU
LOOK IN ALL KINDS OF PLACES.
LIKE WHEN CHICKY FORAGED FOR
SUNFLOWER SEEDS ON OLIVE'S
TRUNK!

Elinor, Olive and Ari giggle.

Elinor says, WAIT A MINUTE, I KNOW HOW WE
CAN HELP CHICKY.
LET'S BUILD BIRD-FEEDERS SO
CHICKY AND OTHER BIRDS CAN GET
MORE FOOD IN WINTER.

Ari says, BUT WHAT WILL WE MAKE IT OUT
OF?

Olive looks thoughtful.

She says, I KNOW, LET'S FORAGE AROUND
THE HOUSE AND LOOK FOR THINGS
WE CAN USE TO MAKE BIRD-FEEDERS.

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT'S A FABULOUS PLAN!
FORAGE AWAY, KIDS!

(Cheerful music plays)

A bird flies onto Elinor’s head.

She and her friends sing, LET'S FEED THE BIRDS
LET'S FEED THE BIRDS!
WINTER IS SNOWY
SO, LET'S FEED THE BIRDS.

The friends search a bathroom.

Olive sings, CHICKY NEEDS A FEEDER.

Ari searches a bookshelf.

He sings, WE'LL BUILD HER SOMETHING
GREAT.

Elinor grabs a piece of paper from a desk.

She sings, FROM THINGS WE FIND AROUND THE
HOUSE…

Olive sings, …SOME STRING…

Elinor sings, …A TUBE…

Ari sings, …A PAPER PLATE!

The friends carry their supplies through the house.

Elinor sings, WE'LL BUILD A BIRDFEEDER

Ari sings, AND WHEN OUR WORK IS THROUGH

Olive sings, SHE'LL HAVE LOTS OF FOOD TO
EAT

Elinor sings, AND ALL HER FRIENDS WILL,
TOO!

Together, the friends sing, LET'S FEED THE BIRDS
LET'S FEED THE BIRDS.
WINTER IS SNOWY
SO, LET'S FEED THE BIRDS!

Mr. Rabbit jerks awake.

He says, HUH?!

The three friends build bird feeders at the table with their foraged supplies. Mr. Rabbit falls back asleep on the couch. Olive lifts her bird feeder with her trunk.

She says, FINISHED!

Elinor says, YOU MADE A MILK CARTON INTO A
BIRDFEEDER HOUSE.
THAT IS SO SMART, OLIVE!

Olive says, OH, THIS ISN'T JUST A HOUSE.

She flips through the pages of a miniature book on her milk carton house.

Ari says, IT'S A BIRDFEEDER LIBRARY!
NICE!

Olive says, THIS WAY THE BIRDS WILL HAVE
SOMETHING TO READ WHILE THEY
HAVE A SNACK!

Elinor and Ari giggle.

Ari says, I MADE A FLYING SAUCER BIRD
FEEDER FROM TWO PAPER PLATES.
THE TOP PLATE IS THE ROOF, AND
THE BOTTOM PLATE IS FOR THE
SEEDS.
BEEP-BOOP-BOOP-BEEP.

Ari waves around his flying sauced bird feeder.

He says, BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BOOP.
BEEP-BOOP-BOOP.
TAKE US TO YOUR BIRDSEED.

Olive laughs.

She says, LET'S SEE YOUR BIRDFEEDER,
ELINOR.

Elinor says, HERE IT IS!

She places her birdfeeder on the table.

Olive says, IT LOOKS JUST LIKE CHICKY'S
TREE!

Elinor says, I MADE IT OUT OF A
PAPER-TOWEL ROLL.
YOU JUST POUR THE FOOD IN THE
TOP AND IT COMES OUT THIS HOLE
ON THE SIDE.

Ari says, COOL, THERE SURE ARE LOTS OF
DIFFERENT WAYS TO MAKE A
BIRDFEEDER.

He taps his bird feeder.

Olive says, HM, NOW, WE JUST HAVE TO
FILL THEM UP WITH FOOD.
ARI, CAN WE HAVE SOME OF YOUR
SUNFLOWER SEEDS, PLEASE?

Ranger Rabbit walks past the kids and into a kitchen.

Ari says, SURE THING!

He pulls out his bag of sunflower seeds and frowns.

He says, UH-OH, WE ATE THEM ALL.

Olive says, OH, NO!
NOW WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

Ranger Rabbit chuckles.

She says, HM, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, EH?

She opens a cupboard and takes out a bag of sunflower seeds. She brings them over to Elinor.

Elinor says, MOM, YOU HAVE A SECRET HIDING
PLACE!

Olive says, JUST LIKE CHICKY.

She and her friends giggle.

Elinor says, THANKS, MOM.
WHAT ELSE DO BIRDS LIKE TO EAT,
OLIVE?

Olive says, UH, APPLES.

Ranger Rabbit says, I HAVE SOME APPLES RIGHT
HERE.
I'LL CUT UP SOME SLICES.

She turns back toward the kitchen.

Olive adds, AND BUGS!

Ranger Rabbit says, SORRY, KIDS, NO BUGS IN MY
KITCHEN.

The friends laugh. Outside, Ari hangs his flying saucer bird feeder up on a branch in the tree outside Elinor’s house.

He says, THERE WE ARE.
WOO-HOO!

He flies down from the tree. Olive and Elinor hang their bird feeders.

Olive says, NICE WORK, ARI.
HM.
NOW ALL WE NEED IS...

(Chirping)

Elinor says, IT'S CHICKY!

Chicky flies up to Elinor’s bird feeder.

Olive says, LOOK, SHE'S USING THE
BIRDFEEDER YOU MADE, ELINOR!

(Birds chirping)

Elinor says, AND SO ARE ALL HER BIRD
FRIENDS!

Birds fly up to the other bird feeders.

Ari says, TAKE AS MUCH FOOD AS YOU
WANT, BIRDIES!

Birds stand on both of the plates of Ari’s bird feeder. Chirpy flies off of Elinor’s bird feeder and another takes his place. A bird takes seeds out of Olive’s bird feeder house. Another flips a page in the book.

Olive says, WE MADE THESE SPECIAL
BIRD-FEEDERS FROM ALL THE STUFF
WE FORAGED AROUND THE HOUSE.

Ari says, UH-HUH, THAT'S RIGHT, WE
FORAGED!

His stomach growls.

Ari says, WOW, WATCHING THOSE BIRDS MAKES
ME HUNGRY.

Olive says, MAYBE WE SHOULD BUILD AN
ARI-FEEDER NEXT!

The friends laugh and run around the yard. A bird chirps as they take more sunflower seeds from Elinor’s bird feeder.

Outside a barn, Olive and Elinor stand on either side of a snowman at night in winter clothes. Ari, Mary, Lizzie and Bodie stand by the barn with Senor Tapir who carries a guitar.

Elinor says, SENOR TAPIR, HOW DO
CHICKADEES KEEP WARM IN THE
WINTER?

A chickadees rests on the nose of the snowman. Another sits on the snowman’s head.

Elinor says, THEY DON'T HAVE WINTER COATS OR
FUR LIKE US.

Senor Tapir says, YOU KNOW WHAT, ELINOR?

Elinor and Olive join Senor Tapir.

Senor Tapir says, A SCIENTIST NAMED RICHARD HILL
HAD THE SAME QUESTION.

A chickadee lands on Senor Tapir’s guitar.

Senor Tapir says, LIGHTS, PLEASE.

A spot light shines on Senor Tapir. Senor Tapir plays his guitar.

He sings, HOW DO CHICKADEES KEEP WARM IN
THE WINTER?
RICHARD HILL WANTED TO KNOW.

Richard Hill, as a rabbit, walks through a forest. A chickadee flies by.

Senor Tapir signs, WHEN THE TEMPERATURE'S
DROPPING, OH, WHY DON'T THEY
STOP AND BECOME POPSICLES IN THE
SNOW?

Richard shivers as it starts to snow.

Senor Tapir sings, THE SHAPE OF A CHICKADEE'S
SHADOW GAVE RICHARD
THE ANSWER THAT HE FOUND.

Richard studies a chickadee and their shadow.

Senor Tapir signs, 'CAUSE IN CHILLY WEATHER,
BIRDS POOF UP THEIR FEATHERS
THE COLDER IT GETS THEN THE
MORE THEY GET ROUND.

Richard lowers the temperature on a thermostat and the chickadee’s feathers puff up.

Senor Tapir signs, CHICKADEE-DEE-DEE
YOUR SHADOW HELPED THEM SEE
HOW YOU POOF UP YOUR FEATHERS
IN A COLD WINTER STORM.

Richard wears a lab coat as he studies the bird’s shadow.

Senor Tapir signs, CHICKADEE-DEE-DEE
YOUR SHADOW HELPED THEM SEE
THE WAY YOU STAY TOASTY AND
WARM.
TOASTY AND WARM!

The bird stands on a branch outside as it snows.

Senor Tapir sings, AS YOU PERCH ON YOUR SEAT,
YOUR FEATHERS TRAP HEAT
FROM YOUR CHICKADEE HEAD TO
YOUR CHICKADEE FEET.
CHICKADEE-DEE-DEE
YOUR SHADOW HELPED THEM SEE
THE WAY YOU STAY TOASTY AND
WARM.

Richard observes other chickadees in the snowy forest.

Senor Tapir signs, TOASTY AND WARM!

(Kids cheering)

Elinor cheers, YES!

Senor Tapir says, GRACIAS, AMIGOS!

(Laughing)

Elinor reads a title.

She reads, SENOR TAPIR SAYS “ADIOS”.

Senor Tapir stands on an outdoor stage with Elinor and some of her friends. He plays his guitar.

Senor Tapir signs, WHEN SOMETHING YOU SEE
TICKLES YOUR CURIOSITY.
WHEN YOU HAVE TO KNOW MORE
AND QUESTIONS PULL YOU OUT
THE DOOR

Elinor, Olive and Ari play different instruments.

Senor Tapir signs, LET'S GO, LET'S EXPLORE!

The friends applaud with their other friends Koa, Sally and Tito.

Senor Tapir says, AND THAT'S A SONG ABOUT A
SCIENTIST WHO EXPLORED THE
OCEAN!

Elinor says, WE LOVE YOUR SONGS ABOUT
SCIENTISTS, SENOR TAPIR.

Ari says, MY FAVORITES ARE THE ONES
WHERE YOU SING ABOUT A SCIENTIST
WHO EXPLORES AND THEN THEY ASK
QUESTIONS…

He does a flip.

He says, …AND THEN THEY DISCOVER
SOMETHING!

Senor Tapir laughs.

He says, YES, ISN'T LEARNING ABOUT
SCIENTISTS FUN?
I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE THEM AND I
LOVE PLAYING AND SHARING THESE
SONGS WITH ALL OF YOU.

Elinor asks, WILL YOU SING US ANOTHER ONE,
SENOR TAPIR?

Senor Tapir says, AW, I WOULD LOVE TO, ELINOR,
BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING
IMPORTANT.

Olive asks, WHAT IS IT, SENOR TAPIR?

Senor Tapir says, THE TIME HAS COME FOR ME TO
LEAVE ANIMAL TOWN.

All the kids say, WHAT?

Olive says, WHY?

Koa says, THAT'S A BUMMER.

Elinor says, YOU'RE LEAVING?

Senor Tapir says, YES, TOMORROW I'M SAD TO SAY.
NOW THAT WINTER IS COMING, IT'S
TIME FOR ME TO GO TO ANOTHER
TOWN.

Ari says, TO ANOTHER TOWN?

Olive says, BUT WHY?

Senor Tapir says, WELL, IT'S MY JOB, YOU SEE.
I'M A TRAVELING MUSICAL
INSTRUMENT SALES-ANIMAL, AND MY
JOB IS TO GO FROM TOWN TO TOWN
PLAYING MUSIC AND SHARING THESE
WONDERFUL INSTRUMENTS WITH
EVERYONE.

Olive says, I HOPE THEY LOVE YOUR SONGS
AS MUCH AS WE DO.

Elinor says, YEAH!

Senor Tapir says, AW, THANK YOU, KIDS.
THAT REALLY MAKES MY HEART SING,
AND YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MY HEART
LIKES TO SING.

He strums his guitar and laughs.

He says, BUT DON'T WORRY, KIDS, I'LL BE
BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

Ari says, WOAH, NEXT YEAR?!
I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!

Senor Tapir chuckles.

He says, I ALWAYS COME BACK TO ANIMAL
TOWN IN THE SPRING.
BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, THE FLOWERS
WILL BE IN BLOOM AND YOU'LL SEE
ME AGAIN.
WHO KNOWS, MAYBE I'LL HAVE NEW
SONGS TO SING TO YOU.

Senor Tapir strums his guitar.

Ari says, AWESOME!

Senor Tapir says, WELL, I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN
TOMORROW TO SAY GOODBYE BEFORE
I LEAVE, BUT NOW IT'S TIME FOR
YOU TO GO.

The kids get up from their seats. Elinor and her friends return their instruments.

Senor Tapir says, THANK YOU.
MUCHAS GRACIAS.

He hangs Olive’s tambourine on his back and straps on Ari’s bongos,. He picks up his guitar with a grunt.

Senor Tapir says, ADIOS!

Elinor says, BYE, SENOR TAPIR!
SEE YOU TOMORROW.

Senor Tapir says, SEE YOU LATER!

Elinor, Olive and Ari walk through a forest that’s filled with fall colours. A gust of wind passes through. Olive shivers.

She says, BRR. IT IS GETTING KINDA CHILLY.
IT FEELS A LITTLE LIKE WINTER
ALREADY.

Elinor says, IT'S TOO BAD SENOR TAPIR HAS
TO LEAVE.

Ari says, YEAH, WHO'S GONNA SING US
SONGS ABOUT SCIENTISTS NOW?

Elinor says, HEY, I KNOW, WHY DON'T WE DO
SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR SENOR
TAPIR BEFORE HE LEAVES?

Olive says, GREAT IDEA, ELINOR!
HE ALWAYS IS DOING NICE THINGS
FOR US, WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING
NICE FOR HIM!

She pauses.

She says, BUT WHAT SHOULD WE
DO?

Elinor says, HM.

She looks thoughtful. She and her friends continue their walk back to her house where Ranger Rabbit fills Elinor’s birdfeeder.

Ranger Rabbit says, HI, KIDS.
YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO
FIGURE SOMETHING OUT.

Elinor says, MOM, SENOR TAPIR IS LEAVING
TOMORROW.

Ranger Rabbit says, YES, I HEARD.
I BET YOU KIDS MUST BE SAD.

Olive says, YEAH, WE'RE REALLY GOING TO
MISS HIM.

Elinor says, MOM, WE WANT TO GIVE SENOR
TAPIR SOMETHING SPECIAL.

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT'S VERY SWEET OF YOU,
KIDS.
I'M SURE YOU'LL FIND JUST THE
RIGHT THING TO GIVE SENOR TAPIR
BEFORE HE LEAVES TOMORROW.

Elinor says, I HOPE SO.

Olive says, IT'S TIME TO GET HOME.
GOODNIGHT, ELINOR.
GOODNIGHT, RANGER RABBIT!

She waves.

Ari says, BYE-BYE!

He waves and leaves with Olive.

Elinor says, SEE YOU TOMORROW!

She and her mom wave. They walk up to their house and day turns to night. A bird sings outside the house during the day. Elinor wakes up in her bed.

She says, HUH?
WHAT'S THAT?

She climbs out of bed and goes to her window.

Elinor says, HM, I WONDER WHAT THOSE SOUNDS
ARE.

(Bird singing)

Mr. Rabbit snores beside Ranger Rabbit in their bed.

Elinor loudly whispers, MOM!

Ranger Rabbit says, HUH?

She grunts as she wakes. She looks at Elinor.

She asks, WHAT IS IT, DEAR?

Elinor says, I HEARD AN INTERESTING SOUND
OUTSIDE THAT WOKE ME UP!

Ranger Rabbit says, HM, WHAT KIND OF SOUND WAS
IT?

Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW, I WANT TO GO
OUTSIDE AND FIND OUT.
WILL YOU COME WITH ME, MOM?

Ranger Rabbit yawns. She pulls back her blanket.

She says, WELL, I GUESS IT'S NEVER TOO
EARLY IN THE MORNING TO BE
CURIOUS, IS IT?

Elinor cheers, YAY!

(Bird singing)

Elinor says, THERE ARE THE SOUNDS AGAIN!

She looks excited.

She loudly says, COME ON, WE NEED MORE OB—

Mr. Rabbit snores loudly and rolls onto his side.

Ranger Rabbit says, SHHH!

Elinor quietly says, WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!

She leaves. Ranger Rabbit stretches and yawns before following. She and Elinor step outside wearing purple housecoats.

(Bird singing)

Elinor gasps.

She says, THERE IT IS!

She hops down the steps.

She says, THAT'S THE SOUND I HEARD!

Ranger Rabbit says, HM, THAT IS AN INTERESTING
SOUND.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS?

Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER HEARD IT
BEFORE.

(Bird singing)

Elinor says, THERE IT IS AGAIN.
I THINK IT'S COMING FROM OVER
THERE.

Ranger Rabbit says, I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT.

Elinor and her mom walk down a path in the forest. Birds rest on high branches in different trees.

(Bird singing)

Elinor says, LOOK, IT'S THOSE BIRDS IN THE
TREE THAT ARE MAKING THE SOUND.

The birds sing and chirp.

Ranger Rabbit says, MM-HM.

She looks up at the birds. A bird with brown feathers joins another on a branch in one tree.

She says, THOSE ARE WOOD
THRUSHES AND MAGNOLIA WARBLERS.

The Magnolia Warblers, two birds with yellow feathers, are in the tree across from the Wood Thrushes.

Elinor says, BUT MOM, I'VE NEVER HEARD A
BIRD MAKE THOSE SOUNDS BEFORE.
BIRDS USUALLY SOUND LIKE CHIRP
CHIRP, CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP, CHIRP,
CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP.

She flaps her arms like a bird.

She says, THESE SOUND MORE LIKE
CHEEP-CHEEP-CHEEP-CHEEP.
I WONDER WHY DO THESE BIRDS
SOUND DIFFERENT?

Ranger Rabbit says, KEEP OBSERVING, ELINOR, I
THINK YOU MIGHT FIND OUT SOON.

(Bird singing)

The pair of Magnolia Warblers join a group of Warblers and fly away.

Elinor says, WOW, LOOK AT THAT ALL THOSE
BIRDS LEAVING.

The Wood Thrushes leave with other Thrushes.

(Chirping)

Elinor says, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE ALL GOING
THE SAME WAY.

A gust of wind blows through the forest. Elinor gasps.

She says, MOM, ARE THE BIRDS LEAVING FOR
THE WINTER, LIKE SENOR TAPIR?

Ranger Rabbit says, YES, THEY ARE.
THEY'RE MIGRATING.
YOU SEE, SOME BIRDS DON'T LIKE
THE COLD, SO WHEN IT'S ALMOST
WINTER, THEY FLY AWAY SOMEWHERE
WARMER.

Elinor says, MIGRATING?

Ranger Rabbit says, YES, THESE BIRDS ARE ON THEIR
WAY THERE NOW.

Elinor gasps.

She says, IS THAT WHY THEY ARE MAKING
THAT SPECIAL SOUND?
BECAUSE THEY'RE ON A TRIP?

Ranger Rabbit says, YES, SOME BIRDS MAKE A
SPECIAL SOUND OR CALL WHEN
THEY'RE FLYING TOGETHER FOR THE
WINTER.

Birds sing as they fly past Elinor and her mom.

Ranger Rabbit asks, WHAT'S WRONG, ELINOR?

Elinor says, I'M JUST A LITTLE SAD THAT
THE BIRDS ARE LEAVING, JUST LIKE
SENOR TAPIR.

Ranger Rabbit says, OH, DON'T WORRY, ELINOR.

She kneels beside Elinor.

She adds, THE BIRDS AND SENOR TAPIR WILL
COME BACK NEXT YEAR.
SOMETIMES THINGS IN NATURE
LEAVE, BUT THEN THEY COME BACK.

Elinor smiles.

She says, YEAH, IT'S NICE THAT THE
BIRDS MAKE SPECIAL SOUNDS, WHEN
THEY GO ON A TRIP.

Ranger Rabbit says, MM-HM!

Elinor looks thoughtful.

She says, MOM, THAT'S IT!
I THINK I KNOW WHAT WE CAN GIVE
SENOR TAPIR BEFORE HE LEAVES.
COME ON!

Elinor runs down the path. Her mom slowly follows. Senor Tapir stands with his bag by the outdoor stage with Mr. Racoon, Ms. Lama, Mr. Buffalo and Ms. Mole.

Mr. Racoon says, WELL, HAVE A GOOD TRIP, SENOR
TAPIR.
HERE, I BAKED YOU SOME FRESH
SNACKS FOR YOUR TRIP.

He hands Senor Tapir a box.

Senor Tapir says, WOW, THANK YOU, MR. RACCOON!
I SHOULD SING A SONG ABOUT HOW
YUMMY YOUR TREATS ARE.

He packs the treats.

Mr. Racoon says, OH, WELL, THANK YOU.
I DO BAKE THE BEST TREATS IN
TOWN.
OF COURSE, I'M ALSO THE ONLY BAKER
IN TOWN.

Ms. Lama says, THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR
BEAUTIFUL SONGS, SENOR TAPIR.

Senor Tapir says, THANK YOU, MS. LLAMA, I'LL
MISS YOUR FRUITS AND YOUR
SPECIAL SAUCES.
MUY DELICIOSAS!

Ms. Lama says, AWW, GEE.

Senor Tapir says, WELL, NOW IT'S TIME FOR ME TO
GO!

Elinor says, SENOR TAPIR, SENOR TAPIR!

She runs up to Senor Tapir with Olive, Ari, Sally, Koa and Tito.

Senor Tapir says, ELINOR, KIDS, I'M SO GLAD YOU
CAME TO SAY GOODBYE.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ANIMAL
TOWN BEFORE SAYING ADIOS ONE
LAST TIME.

Elinor says, SENOR TAPIR, WE MADE
SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU TO
TAKE ON YOUR TRIP.

Senor Tapir says, SOMETHING SPECIAL?
WHAT IS IT?

Elinor says, WELL, WE WERE TRYING TO THINK
OF WHAT TO GIVE YOU.

Olive says, BECAUSE YOU'RE ALWAYS SINGING
FUN SONGS TO US.

Elinor says, AND THEN I HEARD AN
INTERESTING SOUND OUTSIDE THAT
WOKE ME UP.

Olive says, YEAH, ELINOR TOLD US ALL
ABOUT IT.
IT WAS BIRDS, AND THEY WERE
LEAVING TOO.

Ari says, AND WHEN THEY LEAVE FOR THE
WINTER, THEY MAKE A SPECIAL BIRD
CALL.

Senor Tapir says, THAT'S SO INTERESTING!

Elinor says, YES, IT IS!
SO WE HAD THE IDEA TO MAKE A
SPECIAL SONG FOR YOU FOR YOUR
TRIP, JUST LIKE THE BIRDS HAVE
A SPECIAL CALL WHEN THEY GO ON
A TRIP.

Senor Tapir says, HOW WONDERFUL, KIDS!
I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR IT.

The kids giggle.

Elinor says, GREAT!

Olive says, YES!

(Soft music plays)

Elinor and her friends sing, IT'S TIME FOR SOME BIRDS TO
FLY, FLY AWAY.

A gust of wind passes over the friends.

The friends sing, IT'S GETTING TOO COLD FOR THEM
TO STAY.

A group of birds fly away.

The friends sing, AND JUST LIKE THE BIRDS WE
SING, SING A SONG
TO SAY GOODBYE, BUT NOT FOR
LONG.
WHEN FRIENDS SAY GOODBYE
JUST SING THEM THIS TUNE
AND THEY'LL COME RIGHT BACK
YOU'LL SEE THEM SOON.

The birds return to the forest with the trees now green.

The kids sing, YOU'LL SEE THEM SOON.
OH, SENOR TAPIR
THANKS FOR YOUR SONGS.
PLEASE THINK OF US
AS YOU TRAVEL ALONG.

Senor Tapir plays his guitar.

The kids sing, OH, SENOR TAPIR
PLEASE HEAR OUR WORDS
PLEASE COME RIGHT BACK
JUST LIKE THE BIRDS.
WHEN FRIENDS SAY GOODBYE
JUST SING THEM THIS TUNE.

They sing their song on the outdoor stage.

They sing, AND THEY'LL COME RIGHT BACK
YOU'LL SEE THEM SOON.
YOU'LL SEE THEM SOON!

The kids bow.

(Applause)

The kids hop off the stage. Senor Tapir sniffles as he wipes a tear.

He says, THAT SONG WAS ABSOLUTELY
WONDERFUL, KIDS!
I'LL REMEMBER THIS SPECIAL SONG
AND TAKE IT WITH ME ON MY
TRAVELS.

Olive says, WE'RE SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT,
SENOR TAPIR.

Elinor says, IT'S OUR WAY OF SAYING
GOODBYE.

Senor Tapir says, WHERE I COME FROM, WE SAY
"ADIOS AND HASTA LUEGO" WHICH
MEANS "GOODBYE AND SEE YOU
LATER."

He pulls on his bag.

Olive says, "HASTA LUEGO", I LIKE THAT.

Senor Tapir adjusts his bag.

He says, OKAY.

He opens his arms.

The kids say, AWW.

(Giggling)

Elinor, Olive and Ari hug Senor Tapir.

Ari says, I'M GOING TO MISS YOUR SONGS
ABOUT SCIENTISTS, SENOR TAPIR.

Senor Tapir says, WELL, YOU DON'T NEED ME TO
SING TO YOU ABOUT SCIENTISTS,
ARI.
YOU ARE ALL GREAT SCIENTISTS
YOURSELVES.
JUST LOOK HOW MUCH YOU LEARN BY
LISTENING AND OBSERVING!

Elinor says, YEAH!

Ari says, THAT'S RIGHT!

Olive giggles.

Senor Tapir says, GOODBYE, EVERYONE!

Elinor says, ADIOS, SENOR TAPIR.

Olive says, AND HASTA LUEGO!

Everyone waves as Senor Tapir leaves.

Senor Tapir says, ADIOS AND HASTA LUEGO,
AMIGOS!

He waves and continues into the forest.

(Cheerful music plays)
