(Tradition flute and drum music plays)

An animation plays of a black and white raven flying toward a river running through a forest. People wave to the raven from below. The raven flies over water and leaping orcas. The raven flies through a forest, passing different animals. Title, Legendary Myths: Raven’s Adventures, Raven and The Sea Wolf.

Two girls sitting in lawn chairs play on tablets. They wear their long black hair in braids. One girl has glasses and wears a black sweater. The other wears a dark and light blue jacket. They sit by a fire with a woman with glasses who wears a blue sweater. The fire crackles as the woman removes stones from the fire with a pair of tongs. The woman places the stones in a wooden box.

(Cheerful acoustic music plays)

The girl wearing black asks, WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT, NONNIE?

Nonnie says, JUST WATCH AND SEE, YOUNG ONES.

Nonnie adds another rock to the wooden box. She pours a jug of water over the rocks. She places a fish over the rocks.

The girl wearing black says, EW, ARE WE GOING TO EAT THAT?

The girl wearing blue says, THERE'S STILL SKIN ON THERE.

Nonnie sighs.

She says, THIS IS THE WAY MY
GRANDMOTHER USED TO COOK FISH.
AND I THINK YOU'LL LIKE IT.

Nonnie places a wooden lid over the box. Birds chirp in the distance as the fire continues to crackle.

Nonnie says, NOW, WHILE WE WAIT TO EAT,
I WILL TELL YOU THE STORY
ABOUT THE MISCHIEVOUS RAVEN
AND THE TROUBLE HE GETS
INTO WITH THE DREADED SEA WOLF.

The girl wearing black says, IS THIS A BOY STORY, NONNIE?

Nonnie says, WELL, YES AND NO.
THERE'S ALSO A BEAUTIFUL MAIDEN.

The girls put away their tablets.

Nonnie says, NOW, BE QUIET AND LISTEN
AND I'LL TELL YOU THE TALE.

(Traditional flute and drum music plays)

The black and white animated raven flies toward a river flowing through a forest.

Nonnie narrates, THE HAIDA ISLANDS
ARE SURROUNDED
BY RICH, ABUNDANT WATERS.
AND THIS IS WHERE
OUR STORY BEGINS.

A woman wearing brown hangs clothes on a rack in the centre of a village near a beache. The raven caws.

The raven says, THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL
GIRL I HAVE EVER SEEN.
I MUST GET CLOSE TO HER.

The raven flies in circles over the. In the distance, seagulls squawk and waves crash. The raven lands and transforms into a man.

Nonnie narrates, AS RAVEN MAN
APPROACHED ANGEPTU,
FISH MOTHER CALLED OUT TO HER.

Fish Mother calls, ANGEPTU, COME HERE.
I NEED YOU NOW.

Angeptu stands and starts to leave.

Nonnie narrates, AS ANGEPTU LEFT,
RAVEN MAN USED THIS OPPORTUNITY
TO STEAL SOME OF THE
CLOTHES AS HE WAS QUITE NAKED.

Raven Man wears the clothes from the rack. He turns to face Angeptu as she approaches. Their eyes connect.

(Angelic choir music plays)

Raven Man says, HELLO, ANGEPTU.
I AM CALLED "RAVEN".

Angeptu says, HOW –
HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?

Raven says, I HEARD YOUR
MOTHER CALLING TO YOU
WHEN I WAS UH...
WALKING ALONG THE BEACH.

Nonnie narrates, THE
COUPLE TALKED QUIETLY
AS ANGEPTU FINISHED THE LAUNDRY.
RAVEN MAN WALKED
ANGEPTU BACK TO HER HOUSE
WHERE FISH MOTHER WAS WAITING.

Angeptu and Raven walk up to Fish Mother, who has short black hair.

Fish Mother says, WHO IS THIS MAN AND WHY
IS HE WEARING MY
HUSBAND'S CLOTHES?

Raven says, I AM RAVEN AND CAME FROM AFAR
WITH NO CLOTHING OR A HOME.

Fish Mother says, WELL, YOU'RE NOT STAYING HERE.
I CAN TELL YOU THAT MUCH.
YOU'RE JUST LUCKY MY HUSBAND
IS ON A FISHING TRIP, OR ELSE.

Water laps against two boats sitting at the edge of the beach. Raven lets out a slow whistle. Angeptu holds Raven’s hand.

She says, I HAVE DECIDED
THIS IS THE MAN
I WANT TO MARRY.

Fish Mother says, HMM.
YOU MAY HAVE ANGEPTU'S
HAND IN MARRIAGE, LITTLE BIRD…

Angeptu smiles.

Fish Mother adds, …IF YOU CAN CATCH THE SEA WOLF
AND BRING IT
BACK TO THE VILLAGE.

Angeptu looks worried. She puts her hand on Raven’s arm.

She says, YOU MUSTN'T, RAVEN.
THE SEA WOLF HUNTS
KILLER WHALES FOR SPORT.
HE WILL DEVOUR YOU.

Raven brushes off Angeptu’s hand.

Nonnie narrates, FISH MOTHER HAD FOUND ONE
OF RAVEN MAN'S WEAKNESSES:
HIS PRIDE.

Raven furrows his brow.

He says, VERY WELL.
I WILL HUNT DOWN
THIS CREATURE OF THE SEA.
AND WHEN I RETURN WITH IT,
ANGEPTU'S HAND WILL BE MINE.

Raven blows a kiss to Angeptu.

Nonnie narrates, NOW, RAVEN MAN'S
IN A BIT OF A PICKLE
AS HE HAS NO IDEA
WHERE THE SEA WOLF IS
OR HOW HE IS GOING
TO CAPTURE THE BEAST.

Raven walks away from Angeptu and Fish Mother. An owl lands on a branch in front of Raven.

Nonnie narrates, OWL, BEING ONE OF THE
WISEST HAIDA CREATURES
SAW THROUGH RAVENS
HUMAN SHAPE AT ONCE.

Owl says, MY OLD TRICKSTER FRIEND.
WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THIS VILLAGE?

Raven says, I WAS FLYING ALONG,
JUST MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS
WHEN I SAW THE MOST
BEAUTIFUL GIRL, ANGEPTU.
I MUST HAVE HER AS MY WIFE.
BUT HER MOTHER
WON'T LET ME MARRY HER
UNTIL I BRING THE SEA WOLF
BACK TO THE VILLAGE.

Owl jumps off the branch onto the beach. A frog leaps across the sand.

Owl says, IF I WAS YOU…

Owl eats the frog.

Owl says, …I WOULD SHED THAT HUMAN FORM
AND FLY FAR AWAY FROM HERE.
THE SEA WOLF IS THE
TERROR OF THE SEAS.

Raven says, I'M NOT LEAVING
HERE WITHOUT HER.

Raven looks determined.

Owl says, WASGO, THE SEA WOLF
LIVES DEEP IN THE OCEAN.
YOU'LL NEED TO TRANSFORM
INTO A SHARK TO TRAVEL THERE.

Raven says, HMM. THANK YOU, OWL.

He drops his clothes.

He says, I LEAVE TO FIND MY DESTINY.

Raven steps out of his clothes and dives into the water.

Nonnie narrates, RAVEN
BECAME RAVEN SHARK.
HE'S LONGER THAN EIGHT FEET,
WEIGHED OVER 500 POUNDS,
HAD RAZOR SHARP TEETH,
AND COULD SMELL BLOOD FOR MILES.

Raven swims through the water as a shark. He reveals his teeth as fish swim by.

Raven says, THIS MUST BE THE BEAST I SEEK.

The shadow of a creature moves through the water above Raven.

(Ominous music plays)

Raven bites the tail of the creature, causing it to yelp. The creature reveals himself as a green four legged creature.

The creature says, LOOK, LITTLE BABY SHARK,
I DON'T THINK YOU KNOW WHO I AM
OR YOU WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT.
I AM THE TERROR OF THE SEAS,
WASGO, THE DREADED SEA WOLF.

Two orcas watch the interaction between Sea Wolf and Raven.

Sea Wolf says, I HUNT ORCA FOR SPORT
AND WHEN I GROW
TIRED OF THEIR FLESH,
I CLIMB TO THE VILLAGES OF
MEN AND I EAT THEM TOO. NO –

Nonnie narrates, AS THE
SEA WOLF CONTINUED
HIS DIATRIBE OF HOW GREAT HE IS,
RAVEN SHARK SCANNED
THE BEAST FOR A WEAKNESS.

Raven bites Sea Wolf’s neck. Sea Wolf yelps. He slaps Raven away.

Sea Wolf says, YOU ARE CUNNING,
LITTLE BABY SHARK.
AND ALTHOUGH I PREFER ORCA,
TODAY I AM
FEASTING ON SHARK SUSHI.
I THINK I WILL START
BY EATING YOUR HEART.

Nonnie narrates, A
COLOSSAL BATTLE HAPPENED
BETWEEN THE TWO
GREAT SEA BEASTS,
WITH RAVEN SHARK FINALLY
DEFEATING HIS OPPONENT.

(Groaning)

A green orca and a blue orca swim up to Raven.

The green orca says, THANK YOU, LITTLE BABY SHARK,
FOR SAVING US
FROM CERTAIN DEATH.

Raven says, MY NAME IS RAVEN UH...
RAVEN SHARK.

The blue orca says, WE ARE IN YOUR DEBT FOREVER.
HOW CAN WE REPAY YOU,
RAVEN SHARK?

Raven says, I AM REALLY RAVEN
BUT I AM A MAN TOO.
AND AM BETROTHED TO THE
MOST BEAUTIFUL
GIRL IN THE HAIDAS.
IN ORDER TO MARRY HER,
I MUST BRING THE SEA WOLF
BACK TO ANGEPTU'S VILLAGE.

The green orca says, IF I HAD MAGIC LIKE YOU,
I WOULD TAKE THE
SKIN OF THE SEA WOLF
AND WEAR IT BACK TO THE VILLAGE.

Nonnie narrates, NOW, RAVEN SHARK
WAS VERY TIRED
FROM HIS BATTLE
WITH THE SEA WOLF
BUT HE SUMMONED
ENOUGH MAGIC TO WEAR
THE SEA WOLF'S SKIN AS A COSTUME
AND THE ORCAS
GUIDED HIM TO THE VILLAGE.

Raven follows the orcas through the water while wearing the Sea Wolf’s skin.

Nonnie narrates, SOON THEY MADE IT
TO THE VILLAGE SHORE
WHERE THE YOUNG ORCAS
COULD GO NO FURTHER.

The blue orca says, JUST CALL FOR US
WHEN YOU NEED US
AND WE'LL BE THERE
FOR YOU, RAVEN SHARK.
AND THANK YOU
AGAIN FOR SAVING US.

Raven lifts his head out of the water with a splash.

Nonnie narrates, AS RAVEN LEFT THE WATER
IN THE SEA WOLF'S SKIN
AND GOT HIMSELF ON LAND,
PANDEMONIUM
ENSUED IN THE VILLAGE.

People run through the village screaming as Raven walks across the land in the Sea Wolf’s skin.

Nonnie narrates, HE WAS NOW RAVEN WOLF.

A person drops an ax.

Raven says, THIS IS KIND OF FUN.

Nonnie narrates, SOON NO ONE WAS LEFT
EXCEPT FOR ANGEPTU
AND FISH MOTHER
WHO HID IN THEIR LONG HOUSE.
WHEN THEY CAME OUT,
HE WAS WAITING FOR THEM.

Raven says, DON'T BE AFRAID, ANGEPTU.

Fish Mother raises her arm in front of Angeptu, blocking her from Raven in his Sea Wolf form.

Raven says, IT IS I, RAVEN, IN
THE SEA WOLF FORM.

Angeptu says, YOU'VE DONE IT, MY LOVE.
BROUGHT THE SEA WOLF
TO OUR VILLAGE.
WE'LL BE WED IN THE MORNING.

Fish Mother lowers her arm.

She says, SHOW YOURSELF, THEN, RAVEN.
SHOW YOUR TRUE FORM.

Nonnie narrates, WITHOUT EVEN THINKING,
RAVEN SHED THE SEA WOLF DISGUISE
AND BECAME HIS TRUE SELF.

Raven transforms into his raven form.

Fish Mother says, THIS IS RAVEN IN HIS TRUE FORM.

Fish Mother points to Raven.

She says, HE'S A LIAR AND A TRICKSTER.
HE'S NOT EVEN A MAN.
HE'S A- HE'S A-

Angeptu interputs and says, A HERO AND A BRAVE
SOUL, FISH MOTHER.
HE DID WHAT YOU
ASKED AND BROUGHT
THE SEA WOLF BACK TO THE VILLAGE
WITH STRENGTH AND CUNNING.
SURELY, HE'S A FITTING HUSBAND.
A LITTLE ODD LOOKING,
BUT A HUSBAND NONETHELESS.

Fish Mother says, NEVER.

She blocks Raven from her daughter.

Fish Mother says, NEVER WILL I ALLOW THIS.
ANGEPTU, GET IN THE HOUSE.
JUST WAIT TILL YOUR
FATHER GETS HOME.

Fish Mother guides Angeptu away and past the boats by the water. She returns to Raven.

Fish Mother says, RAVEN,
TRICKSTER AND DECEIVER.
LEAVE THIS PLACE
AND NEVER RETURN.
YOU'RE NOT WORTHY
OF ANGEPTU'S HAND.

Raven says, I DID WHAT YOU ASKED, OLD WOMAN.
BUT I CAN SEE NO
MATTER WHAT I DO,
IT'LL NEVER BE ENOUGH.

Raven briefly reveals his human form.

He says, GOODBYE, MY LOVE.

Raven flies away.

Angeptu says, WHY COULDN'T YOU
JUST LET HIM BE?

Fish Mother says, NO, HE'S A TRICKSTER
AND NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
BUT LOOK AT THE PRIZE HE LEFT.

Fish Mother holds the Sea Wolf skin.

She says, WE CAN BECOME HEROES OF THE
VILLAGE AND OF THE HAIDAS.

Angeptu says, I AM LEAVING YOU AND
THIS VILLAGE, FISH MOTHER.
YOU DON'T CARE
ABOUT WHAT I WANT.
IT'S ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT.

Angeptu walls away from her mother.

(Dramatic music with traditional flute plays)

Angeptu fishes while standing in the water. Seagulls squawk in the distance. The blue and green orcas circle Angeptu in the water.

(Ominous orchestral music plays)

Angeptu gasps as the orcas pop out of the water.

She says, WHAT?
WHAT DO YOU WANT?

The green orca says, WE SEEK SOMEONE THEY CALL RAVEN,
WHO WAS FIRST A
BIRD, THEN A MAN,
THEN A SHARK THAT
DEFEATED THE SEA WOLF MONSTER
AND THEN TOOK ITS
SKIN TO THE VILLAGE.

The blue orca says, HE DID ALL OF THIS FOR
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
IN THE HAIDAS TO GAIN
HER HAND IN MARRIAGE.

Angeptu drops her head and closes her eyes.

The blue orca says, RAVEN, HE SAVE US
FROM THE SEA WOLF
AND ALL ORCAS OWE HIM OUR LIVES.
WE ARE FOREVER INDEBTED TO
HIM BUT WE CANNOT FIND HIM.

Angeptu says, I AM THE WOMAN NAMED ANGEPTU
THAT RAVEN WAS TO MARRY.

Angeptu covers her face.

She says, HE'S NOT HERE.

Angeptu lets herself fall into the water. The two orcas dive into the water and carry her on their backs.

Angeptu says, AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE HE WENT.

The orcas carry Angeptu back to land.

The green orca says, WE'LL CONTINUE OUR
SEARCH FOR OUR PROTECTOR.
AND WHEN WE FIND HIM,
WE WILL BRING HIM TO YOU.

The blue orca says, AND UNTIL WE FIND HIM,
WE PROMISE TO BRING FISH
EVERY DAY TO YOU SO
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO
NET IN THE SHALLOWS.

The orcas return to the water. They splash in and out of the water. On the beach, Angeptu cooks fish in a wooden box decorated with a raven. A raven caws above her. Angeptu covers the box with a lid. Her box matches Nonnie’s.

Nonnie says, OKAY, CHILDREN, TIME TO
EAT BEFORE IT GETS COLD.

The girl in the black sweater says, THAT ISN'T FAIR.
WHY DIDN'T RAVEN
COME AND RESCUE ANGEPTU
LIKE IN THE FAIRY TALES?

The girl in blue says, AND WHAT, WHAT
HAPPENED TO RAVEN, NONNIE?

Nonnie says, WELL, IF YOU START
EATING LIKE I ASKED,
I'LL FINISH THE TALE.

The two girls pick up forks from the plates of food in front of them.

Nonnie says, YOU KNOW, MY NONNIE
WAITED A LONG TIME
TO FIND THE RIGHT MAN.

Nonnie removes the lid of the wooden box. She pulls out a wooden orca.

Nonnie says, AS A WEDDING GIFT,
HE GAVE HER A
SCULPTURE OF AN ORCA
AND SAID IT WOULD
BRING LUCK WITH FISHING.

An eye on the wooden orca lights up. The two girls jump back in surprised. Their eyes widen.

Nonnie says, THEY LIVED TO THE
END OF THEIR DAYS
IN A REMOTE VILLAGE IN
THE SOUTHERN HAIDAS.
THEY NEVER HAD TO
WORRY ABOUT FISH,
AS THERE WAS ALWAYS
A FRESH PILE OF FISH
IN THE MORNING ON THE BEACH.

The girl wearing black asks, ARE YOU FEEDING
US A LINE, NONNIE?

Nonnie winks.

She asks, WHERE DO YOU
THINK I WAS ABLE TO GET
THE FRESH FISH FOR YOU?

The girl wearing black smiles. Birds chirp in the distance. An animated butterfly flies past. In the distance, orcas swim in the ocean. Raven Man snatches a fish from a pile on a beach in his bird form. He flies away with the fish.
