[Episode title] “The Wedding Planner”

[Sweet music]

DESCRIPTION: Luc, Amala, and Lili sit in the garden.

LUC: Huh. Don't you just love watching the flowers grow?

[Sighs]

LILI: And don't you just love watching Ivan and Suzi? They're so happy!

DESCRIPTION: Ivan, who has gray hair and a mustache and is wearing a red floral shirt, puts his jacket over Suzi, who has brown curly hair and is dressed in a blue dress.

AMALA: And so sweet! I wonder what their wedding was like.

IVAN: Hello!

LILI: Yeah! Ivan, Suzi, you never told us about your wedding. Did you have a big celebration on your cruise?

[Ivan laughs]

IVAN: Actually... no. When we got married, it was just low-key… like us.

DESCRIPTION: Ivan and Suzi walk away.

[Gasps]

LILI: Ivan and Suzi never had a wedding celebration?

AMALA: We need to fix that!

LILI: Yeah! Best wedding planner in the world to the rescue!

[Record dies, crickets chirp]

LILI: Too much?

AMALA: Yeah, too much.

DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Lili pulls out a heavy drawing board. On it are illustrations of Ivan and Suzi, with hearts surrounding them.

[Lili grunting]

LILI: What do we want to do for Ivan and Suzi's big 16 Hudson wedding party?

[Luc gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Luc raises his hand.

LILI: Yes, Luc?

LUC: I have a great idea! Somebody should tell me what a wedding party is.

[Amala giggling]

AMALA: It's a party with friends and family, Luc. To celebrate the two people who get married.

LUC: Oh, fun! Then how about bubbles?

EDDIE: And laser tag?

AMALA: A bouncy castle!

LUC: Fireworks!

EDDIE: Cake!

AMALA: Wait! These are great ideas… for kids! But Ivan and Suzi are grown-ups!

LILI: What do grown-ups like for fancy wedding parties? Anybody know how their parents celebrating their weddings? What are we waiting for? Let's go ask them! I bet we get some great ideas, like…

DESCRIPTION: Lili flips through a picture book of Paul and Bayani’s wedding. Photographs display them eating, dancing, cutting cake, and playing the saxophone.

LILI: After a big, fancy dinner, Luc's dads had a four-foot-tall wedding cake that Bayani baked himself, and a big band that Paul played in! And they danced all night long!

DESCRIPTION: Lili flips through a picture book of Shamila and Frank’s wedding. Photographs show them playing the pipes, eating a lot of food, and holding hands.

LILI: Amala's parents' wedding was a mix of traditions. Amala's dad had Uilleann pipes from Ireland. And Amala's mom wore a red sari wedding dress and had her hands painted in a fancy pattern like in India. Guests threw rose petals. And afterwards, there was a feast!

DESCRIPTION: Lili flips through a picture book of Sam’s parents' wedding. Photographs display them folding cards, kneeling, Sam’s grandmother crying, and lots of food.

LILI: Sam's parents used red and gold colours for good luck on their invitations and decorations, and the Chinese double happiness symbol for a happy marriage. And they gave thanks to Nye-Nye for her love and support with a tea ceremony. And after they were married? A feast!

DESCRIPTION: Lili flips through a picture book of Eddie’s parents’ wedding. Photographs display a grand flower arch, his parents dancing, and lots of food.

LILI: Eddie's parents were married under a flower arch and wrapped in a handmade blanket to show the joining of two lives as one. His dad wore a ribbon shirt. His mom wore a white dress she made herself from elk skins! And after? A feast!

DESCRIPTION: Lili flips through a picture book of her parents’ wedding. Her mother is wearing a white dress, and her father is dressed in a black tuxedo with a pink bowtie. Sugar is sprinkled over their heads, and they eat cake.

My parents had a Persian wedding. There was a table full of special wedding things, and my aunt rubbed sugar cones together over their heads so their new lives together would be sweet. After that? Feast! And for dessert, they did our family tradition and bit the cake together!

[Lili giggling]

DESCRIPTION: A little while later, an assortment of drawings covers their drawing board. There are pictures of red envelopes, a four-tier cake, a flower arch, a saxophone, Irish pipes, and lots of food.

LILI: Okay, we've got all the ideas we need for Ivan and Suzi's big 16 Hudson wedding.

AMALA: But which ones do we do? How about bits of all of them?

EDDIE: Yeah, plus the one thing they've all had in common--

LUC: Food! And lots of it!

[All laughing]

DESCRIPTION: Later that day, the friends decorate 16 Hudson. Luc is hanging red lanterns, Amala is having Mehndi drawn on her hands, Eddie is setting a table, and Lili is directing adults on where to put more food. More children sit on benches and tune instruments.

LILI: Higher, higher! Thanks, everybody. Food goes on the left, drinks go on the right.

LUC: Yum! Celebration food!

[Upbeat music]

DESCRIPTION: A little while later, Lili knocks on Ivan’s door.

[Knocking]

IVAN: Lili! What a surprise!

LILI: I have an invitation for you and Suzi!

IVAN: Oh! I love parties!

DESCRIPTION: Ivan takes the invitation from its envelope and reads it. His eyes go wide, and he tugs on his shirt’s neckline.

IVAN: Uh… Uh, a wedding celebration? In Suzi and my honor? Oh, sorry, but I... ahem. I'm afraid we can't go.

LILI: What? Why not?

IVAN: Suzi and I love parties for other people, but being the center of attention? With all eyes on us? It makes us feel really nervous.

DESCRIPTION: Ivan shakes.

LILI: Nervous? Oh! Like when I have to talk in front of the class?

IVAN: Ah, I'm really sorry, Lili.

DESCRIPTION: Ivan shuts his door.

LILI: Uh...

DESCRIPTION: Back outside, Lili, Luc, Sam, Amala, and Eddie take down the party decorations.

LILI: How could the world's best wedding planner have missed the most basic question? "Does the couple even want a party?"

[Lili sighs]

LILI: What a mistake.

AMALA: Well, my mom says mistakes help people grow, like a garden.

EDDIE: What about disasters? Can you learn from a disaster?

[Lili sighs]

LILI: Everyone's going to be so disappointed.

DESCRIPTION: Suddenly, Lili spots the shadows of a cat and a dog cuddling. For a second, they look like Ivan and Suzi.

[Dog barking]

[Magical music]

DESCRIPTION: Lili drops what she’s holding and runs away.

[Clattering]

LILI: Freeze! In the name of love!

AMALA: What happened?

LUC: What did she see?

EDDIE: What's she thinking?

LUC: Do we still have to freeze? My arm's falling asleep.

DESCRIPTION: A short while later, Lili knocks again on Ivan’s door.

[Knocking]

IVAN: Lili? Everything okay?

LILI: I'm sorry, Ivan. I made a mistake. I should have asked you about your feelings before planning a wedding party for you.

IVAN: It's okay, Lili. I really appreciate the thought.

LILI: But I learned from my disaster! So I would like to invite you to Kensington and Lucy's wedding!

IVAN: They're my favorite cat and dog! Suzi and I would love to come!

DESCRIPTION: Back at the party, Kensington and Lucy stand together. Kensington is a large, white cat wearing a red bow tie, and Lucy is an old poodle wearing a veil.

LILI: Let the wedding celebration begin!

DESCRIPTION: Lili throws rose petals over Kensington and Lucy. Everyone has attended the party, and they take slices of cake and chat amongst each other.

[Romantic music playing]

[Laughter, chattering]

IVAN: To the happy couple!

LILI: And the world's best wedding planner ever!

DESCRIPTION: Lili places a slice of cake between Kensington and Lucy, and they take a bite at the same time. Lili looks over to her parents, who do the same.

[Laughs]

[Both parents laughing]

LUC: Now, let's dance all night! Come on, Dad!

DESCRIPTION: Luc and his dads dance with him; they start a conga line, and everyone joins.

[All laughing]

[Closing music]
