AND OVER THE REEF.
THERE'S A SUNNY LITTLE PLACE
CALLED KANGAROO BEACH.

The singer sings, FRIZZY, GEMMA,
NEVILLE AND POUNCE.
Frizzy, a koala with blue fur, balances sunglasses on her head. Gemma, a platypus, wears goggles strapped over her head. Neville, a wombat, wears a bucket hat. Pounce, a kangaroo, hops over his friends and down a slide. All the friends wear a red and blue uniform.
The singer and others sing, CADETS IN THE CLUB,
SO COME ON, LET'S BOUNCE.
Gemma, Frizzy and Neville follow Pounce down the slide.
The singer sings, GOOD FRIENDS SURFIN'
SWIMMIN', LEARNIN’
Pounce surfs down the slide. Gemma slides down on her stomach. Fizzy follows with her hands in the air. Neville spins down the slide.
He screams, AAH!
Outside, on the Kangaroo Beach dock, he blows a whistle and points to the water.
[Whistle blaring]
The singer sings, BONDI, SANDY,
BIG TREV TOO.
Bondi and Sandy, kangaroos, speed across the water on a boat with Pounce. Underwater, Frizzy travels in a submarine with Big Trev, a bearded koala with green fur.
The singer sings, TRAININ' WITH THE VERY BEST
LIFEGUARD CREW.
STAYIN' SAFE, BEING BRAVE,
RIDE A WAVE, MAKE A SAVE.
Gemma rides in a helicopter. The lifeguards and junior cadets return to the beach. The cadets surf a big wave.
The singer sings, WE'RE HERE ALL SUMMER,
IT JUST GETS FUNNER.
LET'S HOP DOWN TO...
A large wave crashes into the lifeguards and cadets on the beach.
The singer sings, …KANGAROO BEACH!
Title, Kangaroo Beach. A splash of water reveals the episode title on the beach.
Neville reads, SANDY’S SURF SCHOOL.
Text reads, Written by Tim Bain. A wave rolls over the episode title and reveals Gemma asleep in bed at the lifeguard headquarters.
[Gentle music plays]
[Gemma sighing]
Asleep, Pounce kicks his feet in the air.
[Pounce softly snoring]
Frizzy sleep with an eye mask.
[Frizzy softly snoring]
Neville sleeps with his thumb in his mouth.
[Neville softly snoring]
At a control panel, Sandy presses a button that activates the P.A. system.
[Sandy imitating fanfare]
Through the P.A. system, Sandy says, RISE AND SHINE,
SLEEPYHEADS!
One by one the junior cadets wake up.
Pounce says, HUH?
Frizzy pulls off her sleep mask.
She says, WHAT?
Gemma says, HMM?
Sandy continues, SURF'S UP!
[Neville groaning]
Neville pulls the curtain over his bed closed. Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce jump out of their beds.
Gemma cheers, WOO-HOO!
Frizzy cheers, AWESOME!
LET’S GO!
Pounce cheers, WOO-HOO!
OH YEAH!
Gemma cheers, WHOO!
Frizzy says, YEAH!
She starts to follow Gemma and Pounce out of the room.
[Neville groaning]
Frizzy frowns. She pulls Neville’s curtain back.
She says, COME ON, NEVILLE!
Frizzy drags Neville out of bed.
[Neville yelping]
Frizzy bounces down the slide. Neville stumbles and rolls down the slide head first.
[Neville grunting]
Pounce surfs down the slide.
He cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Gemma slides down on her stomach.
She cheers, WHOO, YEAH!
Fizzy follows with her hands in the air.
[Frizzy laughing]
Neville tumbles down the slide.
[Neville yelping]
Pounce cheers, YEAH, WHOO!
He jumps out the slides exit.
[Laughing]
Gemma flips out of the slide. Frizzy walks out behind her.
She says, THAT WAS SO FUN!
[Frizzy giggling]
[Neville grunting]
Neville stumbles onto the mat at the bottom of the slide.
He says, OW!
Sandy stands by a wall of surfboard stands and life vests with Frizzy, Pounce and Gemma who look excited.
Sandy says, WELCOME TO SURF SCHOOL,
GROMMETS.
Neville joins the group.
The cadets look confused.
Gemma and Pounce say, HUH?
Frizzy says, WHAT?
Sandy says, THAT MEANS BEGINNER SURFERS.
Gemma and Frizzy say, OOH!
Pounce says, NICE ONE!
Sandy asks, WHO'S READY TO SURF A WAVE?
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce speak over each other saying, ME! ME!
NO, ME! NO! ME!
ME!
Neville looks hesitant.
He asks, CAN WE SURF THE WEB INSTEAD?
[Sandy laughing]
Sandy says, GOOD ONE, NEV.
NOW, WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT
THING ABOUT SURFING?
Pounce says, CATCHING A HUGE WAVE!
Frizzy says, HIGH-FIVING A DOLPHIN!
Sandy says, OBVIOUSLY, AND ALSO CHOOSING
THE RIGHT BOARD FOR YOU.
She gestures to the surfboards beside her.
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce cheer, WHOO!
Gemma cheers, YEAH!
Pounce says, ALRIGHT!
Frizzy cheers, YEAH!
Pounce says, AWESOME!
The three cadets rush over to the boards.
Sandy says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
HOLD ON, YOU LOT!
YOU DON'T CHOOSE THE BOARD.
THE BOARD CHOOSES YOU.
[Spooky music plays]
The four cadets say WHAT?!
Sandy says, I'M JUST KIDDING!
YOU CHOOSE IT.
THEY'RE NOT MAGIC.
BUT THE BIGGER THE BOARD, THE
EASIER THE RIDE.
Neville looks at a tall board.
He says, IN THAT CASE, I'LL CHOOSE THE
BIGGEST BOARD.
He takes the board off the stand.
Neville quietly says, PLEASE BE GENTLE.
Pounce asks, YOU OKAY, NEV?
Neville says, NOT REALLY.
I'VE MADE A FOOL OF MYSELF IN
EVERY SPORT SO FAR.
Pounce says, IT'S ALRIGHT, NEV.
MAYBE SURFING WILL BE YOUR
SPORT.
Neville says, THANKS, POUNCE.
MAYBE IT WILL BE.
He smiles at his surfboard.
On the beach, Frizzy cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Gemma cheers, LET'S GO!
Frizzy says, ME FIRST!
The cadets run to the water with their surfboards.
Sandy says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce skid to a stop at the water’s edge.
Sandy says, A-PLUS FOR ENTHUSIASM, BUT YOU
NEED TO KNOW YOUR LIMITS IN THE
WATER.
BEGINNERS PRACTISE ON THE SAND
FIRST.
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce groan, AW.
They look disappointed.
Sandy says, ALRIGHT, CADETS.
PADDLE!
The four cadets lie on the sand on their surfboards. They paddle as if they were on the water.
Sandy says, PADDLE, PADDLE, PADDLE,
PADDLE, AND POP!
One by one, the cadets pop up onto their feet on their surfboards. They spread their arms out level with their feet.
First, Pounce, POP!
Then Gemma, POP!
Then Frizzy, POP!
Next, Neville tries to pop up onto his board but stumbles.
He says, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
[Neville yelping]
Sandy says, AW, COME ON, NEV.
TRY AGAIN, CHAMP.
EASY DOES IT.
Neville lies on his board, then pops up onto his feet. He grins.
[Neville giggling]
Sandy says, THERE YOU GO.
YOU GOT IT.
Gemma says, THAT'S IT, NEV.
Frizzy says, YOU'RE A NATURAL.
A seagull lands on Neville’s head.
Neville says, HEY, GET OFF!
SHOO!
[Squawking]
The bird flies away and Neville stumbles backward.
He yelps, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
Neville grunts, OOF!
The seagull returns and lands on Neville’s feet sticking up.
[Squawking]
[Neville groaning]
Elsewhere on the beach, the cadets carry their boards toward the water. Sandy follows.
[Cadets laughing]
Sandy says, OKAY, GROMMETS, GET OUT
THERE AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
A large wave in the ocean curls, then crashes.
[Neville gasping]
Neville looks scared.
He says, THAT'S HUGE!
Neville drops his board and runs away.
He wails, AH!
Sandy grabs Neville’s arm.
She says, WHOA, NEV!
WATER'S THAT WAY, CHAMP!
She turns back toward the ocean. On the water, the cadets lie on their surfboards. Pounce paddles in a wave. As the wave starts to curl, it lifts Pounce. Pounce pops up on his surfboard.
Pounce says, UH... WHOO!
His balance wobbles as he surfs the wave.
He says, OH, YEAH!
WHOO!
Elsewhere on the water, a wave lifts Neville.
Neville wails, AH!
WHOA, WHOA!
The wave curls and crashes, throwing Neville off his board. Elsewhere on the water, Gemma pops up on her board as another wave starts to curl over her.
Gemma says, WHOA!
[Gemma grunting]
Gemma surfs the wave.
She says, WHOO-HOO, YEAH!
Neville struggles to surf another wave.
He wails, WHOA!
The wave curls and throws Neville off his board.
[Neville grunting]
[Wave crashing]
Elsewhere on the water, Frizzy pops up onto her board on a curling wave.
[Frizzy wailing]
Frizzy confidently surfs the wave with Gemma and Pounce.
Frizzy cheers, WHOO-HOO!
OH, YEAH!
Neville rides the wave while lying on his stomach. He pops up on his board and stumbles.
Neville yells, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
Neville grunts, OOF!
He falls into the wave.
Neville pops up out of the water.
[Neville groaning]
Pounce, Frizzy and Gemma walk onto the beach with their surfboards.
Sandy cheers, YES!
COOL!
She carries three medals.
She says, YOU CRUSHED IT.
WHO WANTS A SURFING MEDALLION?
Sandy puts a medal around Pounce.
Gemma says, YES, ME, ME!
Frizzy says, ME, ME, ME!
Pounce, Frizzy and Gemma say, WOW.
Pounce says, SO COOL!
Frizzy says, THANK YOU.
I DESERVE THIS.
[Gemma laughing]
Gemma says, THANKS!
The three cadets admire their medals. Behind them, Neville carries his surfboard. He looks disappointed. Sandy frowns. Neville puts down his board.
[Neville sighing sadly]
Sandy joins Neville by the water.
She says, NICE TRY, NEV.
TOP EFFORT.
BUT MAYBE THESE WAVES, THEY'RE
JUST A BIT BEYOND YOUR LIMIT AT
THE MOMENT.
Neville sighs, AW.
Pounce says, DON'T WORRY, NEVILLE.
WE'LL HELP YOU PRACTISE ON THE
SAND.
Neville asks, REALLY?
Frizzy says, TRUST US.
WE'RE PROFESSIONALS.
She holds up her medal. Behind her, in the sand, her board falls over. A splash of water reveals Neville wearing a helmet.
[Neville gasping]
Neville stands at the top of a sand dune on his surfboard.
He nervously asks, ARE YOU SURE THIS IS A GOOD
IDEA?
On either side of him, Gemma and Pounce stand on their boards also wearing helmets.
Gemma confidently says, ABSOLUTELY.
FOLLOW US.
YOU'LL BE FINE.
Gemma and Pounce surf down the sand. Neville wobbles on his board.
[Neville whimpering]
On the sand dune, Gemma cheers, WHOO!
WHOO!
At the top, Frizzy says, YOUR TURN, NEV!
She pushes Neville down the sand dune.
Neville says, WHOA!
Frizzy says, STAY BALANCED.
Neville wails, WHOA!
[Neville grunting]
Neville briefly wobbles on his board, then gains his balance.
Neville says, I CAN DO IT!
I CAN SURF!
He surfs further down the sand dune.
He says, I CAN'T STOP!
At the bottom of the sand dune, beachgoers relax on the sand.
Neville yells, WHOA!
The beachgoers look worried as Neville surfs past them. Further down the beach, other beachgoers jump out of Neville’s path.
One says, LOOK OUT!
Another says, GET OUT OF THE WAY!
A third says, WHOA!
Neville surfs up a ramp and through a lifeguard lookout where Bondi uses binoculars.
A beachgoer warns, WATCH OUT!
Neville flies off the ramp and past Bondi on his surfboard.
Neville screams, AH!
He crashes onto the beach and off his board.
Bondi says, WOBBLY WOMBATS!
WHERE'D HE COME FROM?
He looks around with a confused expression. Neville slides toward the water. He stands up and scratches his head.
He says, I CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT A
SURFBOARD WITHOUT FALLING OVER.
MAYBE THIS ISN'T MY SPORT.
The other cadets join Neville.
Gemma says, THAT'S OKAY, NEVILLE.
YOU'RE GREAT AT LOADS OF OTHER
THINGS, LIKE, UM...
She taps her chin.
Frizzy says, VIDEO GAMES!
Gemma says, AND MAKING THINGS.
Neville looks sad.
[Neville gasping]
Neville glances at his surfboard stuck in the sand. The fin on the board shines. Neville smiles.
He says, AHH!
At headquarters, Big Trev works on a jet ski.
He grunts, NEVER WORKS.
OH, HANG ON.
OH, COME ON, YOU BUCKET OF
BOLTS.
[Big Trev grunting]
[Rustling]
Neville joins Big Trev.
He says, HIYA, BIG TREV.
MIND IF I BORROW SOME STUFF?
Big Trev says, HUH, WHAT?
IF YOU MUST.
Neville says, THANKS!
He grabs a box of tools and knick knacks. Oil from the jet ski sprays Big Trev in the face as Neville walks away.
Big Trev groans, OH, GREAT GUM NUTS.
On the beach, Neville carries the box of knick knacks into a changing room. He pulls his surfboard inside and closes the door.
[Clattering]
Elsewhere on the beach, Pounce looks shocked.
He says, AMAZING.
Gemma says, INCREDIBLE!
[Upbeat music plays]
Neville expertly surfs a wave.
Frizzy says, AWESOME!
NEVILLE'S A SUPERSTAR!
The three cadets cheer, WOW!
WHOO-HOO!
Under water, a motor attached to the fin on Neville’s surfboard spins. On the board, Neville holds a remote.
He says, WHOO-HOO!
A SELF-CONTROLLED SURFBOARD?
WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS
EARLIER?
On the beach, Neville carries his board back to the changing room.
Neville says, LET'S JUST KEEP THIS BETWEEN YOU
AND ME.
He puts his board inside the changing room.
Pounce says, NEVILLE!
Neville jumps and quickly closes the door.
Ne nervously says, WHA…WHA?
Pounce says, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
Gemma says, ME NEITHER!
YOU GOT REALLY GOOD... REALLY
FAST.
She looks at Neville suspiciously.
Neville says, DID I?
Frizzy says, YEAH, AND I KNOW EXACTLY HOW.
She glares at Neville.
Neville nervously says, YOU DO?
Frizz says, MY SAND DUNE TRAINING!
She smiles.
Neville says, YEAH, IT WAS THAT.
THANKS, FRIZZY.
He looks relieved.
Pounce says, AND GUESS WHAT?
YOU'RE SO GOOD, WE'VE SIGNED YOU
UP FOR THE SURF PRO CARNIVAL!
Neville says, YOU DID WHAT?
Gemma says, IT'S THIS AFTERNOON.
Frizzy asks, EXCITED?
Neville says, TOTALLY…
At the lifeguard headquarters, Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy stand in the kitchen.
Nearby, Neville nervously says, UM, EVERYONE, I'VE GOT SOMETHING
I HAVE TO TELL YOU.
His friends turn around.
Pounce says, THERE YOU ARE.
WE MADE YOU LUNCH.
Gemma says, A GRILLED GRASS SANDWICH.
Frizzy says, AND A SHRUB SHAKE.
Frizzy and Gemma bring Neville the sandwich and shake.
Gemma says, SO, WHAT WAS IT YOU WANTED TO
TELL US?
Neville says, UH, I...
Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy look at Neville.
Neville says, …UH, LOVE YOU ALL SO
MUCH.
Gemma and Frizzy say, WHOA.
Pounce says, AW, RIGHT BACK AT YOU, MATE.
Frizzy says, NOW, EAT UP.
YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT ON
THOSE MONSTER WAVES.
[Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy cheering]
Neville takes a bite of his sandwich. He looks nervous.
He says, HMM…
At the Surf Pro Carnival, a crowd is gathered on the beach. Neville floats on his surfboard near the beach.
Ferdinand announces, WELCOME, DUDES AND
DUDE-ETTES, TO THE KANGAROO
BEACH SURF PRO CARNIVAL.
He speaks into a microphone from inside a food truck.
He says, THE FIRST COMPETITOR TO ENTER
THE WATER IS NEVILLE.
Pounce calls out, GOOD LUCK, NEV, NOT THAT YOU
NEED IT!
Neville paddles on his board.
[Neville groaning]
Gemma says, HE LOOKS A LITTLE NERVOUS.
Pounce says, MAYBE HE NEEDS MORE SURF WAX?
Gemma walks into Neville’s changing room. She reaches for Neville’s surf wax, which is beside a paper with Neville’s surfboard motor plans.
Gemma says, WHAT?
She picks up the plans.
She says, OH, NO!
LOOK!
Gemma shows Pounce and Frizzy the plans.
She says, THAT'S WHY HE GOT SO GOOD.
Pounce says, HUH?
HE'S GOT A MOTOR ON IT!
Frizzy looks shocked.
She says, SO IT WASN'T MY TRAINING.
Pounce says, WE HAVE TO STOP HIM!
On the water, Neville paddles over a tall wave.
Ferdinand announces, AND NEVILLE HEADS
OUT THE BACK JUST AS A HUGE SET
ROLLS IN.
Neville’s friends run toward the water.
Pounce yells, NEVILLE, COME BACK TO THE
BEACH!
Gemma waves her hands frantically.
Frizzy yells, WE KNOW YOU TRICKED US, BUT
WE DON'T CARE!
On the water, Neville says, HUH?
A tall wave starts to life his board.
Gemma yells, WE THINK YOU'RE AMAZING NO
MATTER WHAT!
Neville says, I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE
SOUND OF THE…
A giant wave curls over Neville.
Neville yells, AH!
The wave crashes over Neville.
[Water splashing]
[Ferdinand laughing]
Ferdinand says, WIPEOUT!
[Gemma gasping]
Frizzy covers her eyes.
Pounce says, OH, NO!
HE'S BROKEN HIS BOARD!
He leaves Gemma and Frizzy.
[Frizzy gasping]
Neville pops up from under water as half his board floats past him.
Ferdinand announces, HE'S ALRIGHT,
FOLKS.
[Frizzy sighing in relief]
Gemma calls out, HANG ON AND FLOAT!
Neville grabs onto the piece of his board.
Ferdinand says, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE
THE LITTLE FELLA COULD USE A
HAND.
Pounce hops over to the lifeguard headquarters as Sandy comes down the stairs.
Pounce says, SANDY!
NEVILLE!
He points to the water.
Sandy says, ON IT LIKE A SEAGULL ON A
CHIP.
She jumps off the dock and onto a jet ski.
She says, ROO TO THE RESCUE.
[Alarm blaring]
[Upbeat music plays]
In a montage, the Kangaroo Beach lifeguards prepare for rescue with radios, first aid kits, and rescue boards. The travel in their rescue vehicles, a helicopter, boat, submarine and golf cart. The junior cadets gather, ready for action, and pose.
[Neville whimpering]
On the water, Neville clings to his piece of broken surfboard as another tall wave curls over him.
Ferdinand says, WHOA!
The wave crashes over Neville.
Ferdinand says, NEVILLE TAKES ANOTHER POUNDING.
Gemma says, WHOA!
[Frizzy gasping]
Ferdinand says, THAT'S GOT TO
HURT.
Neville lies on his piece of surfboard as another wave curls around him.
He wails, WHOA!
Neville lies on his stomach as he rides the wave with the broken board.
Ferdinand says, BUT WAIT!
HE'S MADE IT OUT!
Gemma and Frizzy say, OOH!
Ferdinand says, NEVILLE'S RIPPING!
Neville says, WHOA, WHOA!
[Cheering]
Neville glides across the wave.
[Neville whimpering]
Neville flies off the water with the broken board, then back onto the wave.
Gemma says, WOW.
She and Frizzy look amazed.
Neville wails, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
He bounces across the wave.
Ferdinand says, HE'S CRUSHING IT
WOMBAT STYLE!
Neville flips with his board.
He yells, WHOA!
He rides off the wave.
[Laughing]
Neville smiles. He glides down the water back toward the beach.
Ferdinand says, WELL, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING
LIKE IT.
Sandy steers the jet ski toward the beach behind Neville.
Ferdinand continues, GROMMET TO GURU IN JUST ONE
DAY.
Neville slides onto the beach.
[Cheering]
Ferdinand says, GIVE IT UP FOR THE LITTLE
FELLA.
[Pounce, Gemma and Frizzy cheering]
Sandy hurries over to the cadets.
She says, NEV, YOU ALL GOOD?
[Neville sighing]
Neville briefly wobbles on his feet. Sandy kneels beside him.
Neville says, says, I THINK SO.
SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITHIN MY
LIMITS, RIGHT?
Sandy says, BINGO!
BUT HEY, GREAT JOB USING YOUR
BOARD TO STAY AFLOAT.
Neville smiles. His self-controlled surfboard motor and remote float to shore. Neville looks embarrassed.
He says, I'M SO SORRY I CHEATED.
I JUST WANTED TO SURF AS GOOD AS
YOU.
Pounce says, WHO CARES ABOUT SURFING,
NEVILLE?
YOU'RE GREAT AT OTHER STUFF.
Gemma says, LIKE BUILDING AMAZING
INVENTIONS.
Frizzy says, YEAH, AND BOOGIE-BOARDING.
Neville asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Sandy says, WHAT'S THAT?
WHAT YOU JUST DID!
THAT WAS SURFING BUT ON YOUR
BELLY.
Neville smiles.
Pounce says, HEY, NEVILLE, I THINK
YOU JUST FOUND YOUR SPORT.
Neville says, THANKS, EVERYONE.
THIS IS THE PROUDEST MOMENT OF
MY LIFE.
A seagull lands on his head.
[Seagull squawking]
Neville frowns. The seagull poops on his hat.
[Cadets and Sandy laughing]
Neville smiles.
[Neville laughing]

Pounce surfs down the slide. Gemma slides down on her stomach. Fizzy follows with her hands in the air. Neville spins down the slide.
He screams, AAH!
Outside, on the Kangaroo Beach dock, he blows a whistle and points to the water.
[Whistle blaring]
The singer sings, BONDI, SANDY,
BIG TREV TOO.
Bondi and Sandy, kangaroos, speed across the water on a boat with Pounce. Underwater, Frizzy travels in a submarine with Big Trev, a bearded koala with green fur.
The singer sings, TRAININ' WITH THE VERY BEST
LIFEGUARD CREW.
STAYIN' SAFE, BEING BRAVE,
RIDE A WAVE, MAKE A SAVE.
Gemma rides in a helicopter. The lifeguards and junior cadets return to the beach. The cadets surf a big wave.
The singer sings, WE'RE HERE ALL SUMMER,
IT JUST GETS FUNNER.
LET'S HOP DOWN TO...
A large wave crashes into the lifeguards and cadets on the beach.
The singer sings, …KANGAROO BEACH!
Title, Kangaroo Beach. A splash of water reveals the episode title on the beach.
Neville reads, SANDY’S SURF SCHOOL.
Text reads, Written by Tim Bain. A wave rolls over the episode title and reveals Gemma asleep in bed at the lifeguard headquarters.
[Gentle music plays]
[Gemma sighing]
Asleep, Pounce kicks his feet in the air.
[Pounce softly snoring]
Frizzy sleep with an eye mask.
[Frizzy softly snoring]
Neville sleeps with his thumb in his mouth.
[Neville softly snoring]
At a control panel, Sandy presses a button that activates the P.A. system.
[Sandy imitating fanfare]
Through the P.A. system, Sandy says, RISE AND SHINE,
SLEEPYHEADS!
One by one the junior cadets wake up.
Pounce says, HUH?
Frizzy pulls off her sleep mask.
She says, WHAT?
Gemma says, HMM?
Sandy continues, SURF'S UP!
[Neville groaning]
Neville pulls the curtain over his bed closed. Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce jump out of their beds.
Gemma cheers, WOO-HOO!
Frizzy cheers, AWESOME!
LET’S GO!
Pounce cheers, WOO-HOO!
OH YEAH!
Gemma cheers, WHOO!
Frizzy says, YEAH!
She starts to follow Gemma and Pounce out of the room.
[Neville groaning]
Frizzy frowns. She pulls Neville’s curtain back.
She says, COME ON, NEVILLE!
Frizzy drags Neville out of bed.
[Neville yelping]
Frizzy bounces down the slide. Neville stumbles and rolls down the slide head first.
[Neville grunting]
Pounce surfs down the slide.
He cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Gemma slides down on her stomach.
She cheers, WHOO, YEAH!
Fizzy follows with her hands in the air.
[Frizzy laughing]
Neville tumbles down the slide.
[Neville yelping]
Pounce cheers, YEAH, WHOO!
He jumps out the slides exit.
[Laughing]
Gemma flips out of the slide. Frizzy walks out behind her.
She says, THAT WAS SO FUN!
[Frizzy giggling]
[Neville grunting]
Neville stumbles onto the mat at the bottom of the slide.
He says, OW!
Sandy stands by a wall of surfboard stands and life vests with Frizzy, Pounce and Gemma who look excited.
Sandy says, WELCOME TO SURF SCHOOL,
GROMMETS.
Neville joins the group.
The cadets look confused.
Gemma and Pounce say, HUH?
Frizzy says, WHAT?
Sandy says, THAT MEANS BEGINNER SURFERS.
Gemma and Frizzy say, OOH!
Pounce says, NICE ONE!
Sandy asks, WHO'S READY TO SURF A WAVE?
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce speak over each other saying, ME! ME!
NO, ME! NO! ME!
ME!
Neville looks hesitant.
He asks, CAN WE SURF THE WEB INSTEAD?
[Sandy laughing]
Sandy says, GOOD ONE, NEV.
NOW, WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT
THING ABOUT SURFING?
Pounce says, CATCHING A HUGE WAVE!
Frizzy says, HIGH-FIVING A DOLPHIN!
Sandy says, OBVIOUSLY, AND ALSO CHOOSING
THE RIGHT BOARD FOR YOU.
She gestures to the surfboards beside her.
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce cheer, WHOO!
Gemma cheers, YEAH!
Pounce says, ALRIGHT!
Frizzy cheers, YEAH!
Pounce says, AWESOME!
The three cadets rush over to the boards.
Sandy says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
HOLD ON, YOU LOT!
YOU DON'T CHOOSE THE BOARD.
THE BOARD CHOOSES YOU.
[Spooky music plays]
The four cadets say WHAT?!
Sandy says, I'M JUST KIDDING!
YOU CHOOSE IT.
THEY'RE NOT MAGIC.
BUT THE BIGGER THE BOARD, THE
EASIER THE RIDE.
Neville looks at a tall board.
He says, IN THAT CASE, I'LL CHOOSE THE
BIGGEST BOARD.
He takes the board off the stand.
Neville quietly says, PLEASE BE GENTLE.
Pounce asks, YOU OKAY, NEV?
Neville says, NOT REALLY.
I'VE MADE A FOOL OF MYSELF IN
EVERY SPORT SO FAR.
Pounce says, IT'S ALRIGHT, NEV.
MAYBE SURFING WILL BE YOUR
SPORT.
Neville says, THANKS, POUNCE.
MAYBE IT WILL BE.
He smiles at his surfboard.
On the beach, Frizzy cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Gemma cheers, LET'S GO!
Frizzy says, ME FIRST!
The cadets run to the water with their surfboards.
Sandy says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce skid to a stop at the water’s edge.
Sandy says, A-PLUS FOR ENTHUSIASM, BUT YOU
NEED TO KNOW YOUR LIMITS IN THE
WATER.
BEGINNERS PRACTISE ON THE SAND
FIRST.
Gemma, Frizzy and Pounce groan, AW.
They look disappointed.
Sandy says, ALRIGHT, CADETS.
PADDLE!
The four cadets lie on the sand on their surfboards. They paddle as if they were on the water.
Sandy says, PADDLE, PADDLE, PADDLE,
PADDLE, AND POP!
One by one, the cadets pop up onto their feet on their surfboards. They spread their arms out level with their feet.
First, Pounce, POP!
Then Gemma, POP!
Then Frizzy, POP!
Next, Neville tries to pop up onto his board but stumbles.
He says, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
[Neville yelping]
Sandy says, AW, COME ON, NEV.
TRY AGAIN, CHAMP.
EASY DOES IT.
Neville lies on his board, then pops up onto his feet. He grins.
[Neville giggling]
Sandy says, THERE YOU GO.
YOU GOT IT.
Gemma says, THAT'S IT, NEV.
Frizzy says, YOU'RE A NATURAL.
A seagull lands on Neville’s head.
Neville says, HEY, GET OFF!
SHOO!
[Squawking]
The bird flies away and Neville stumbles backward.
He yelps, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
Neville grunts, OOF!
The seagull returns and lands on Neville’s feet sticking up.
[Squawking]
[Neville groaning]
Elsewhere on the beach, the cadets carry their boards toward the water. Sandy follows.
[Cadets laughing]
Sandy says, OKAY, GROMMETS, GET OUT
THERE AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
A large wave in the ocean curls, then crashes.
[Neville gasping]
Neville looks scared.
He says, THAT'S HUGE!
Neville drops his board and runs away.
He wails, AH!
Sandy grabs Neville’s arm.
She says, WHOA, NEV!
WATER'S THAT WAY, CHAMP!
She turns back toward the ocean. On the water, the cadets lie on their surfboards. Pounce paddles in a wave. As the wave starts to curl, it lifts Pounce. Pounce pops up on his surfboard.
Pounce says, UH... WHOO!
His balance wobbles as he surfs the wave.
He says, OH, YEAH!
WHOO!
Elsewhere on the water, a wave lifts Neville.
Neville wails, AH!
WHOA, WHOA!
The wave curls and crashes, throwing Neville off his board. Elsewhere on the water, Gemma pops up on her board as another wave starts to curl over her.
Gemma says, WHOA!
[Gemma grunting]
Gemma surfs the wave.
She says, WHOO-HOO, YEAH!
Neville struggles to surf another wave.
He wails, WHOA!
The wave curls and throws Neville off his board.
[Neville grunting]
[Wave crashing]
Elsewhere on the water, Frizzy pops up onto her board on a curling wave.
[Frizzy wailing]
Frizzy confidently surfs the wave with Gemma and Pounce.
Frizzy cheers, WHOO-HOO!
OH, YEAH!
Neville rides the wave while lying on his stomach. He pops up on his board and stumbles.
Neville yells, WHOA!
He falls off his board.
Neville grunts, OOF!
He falls into the wave.
Neville pops up out of the water.
[Neville groaning]
Pounce, Frizzy and Gemma walk onto the beach with their surfboards.
Sandy cheers, YES!
COOL!
She carries three medals.
She says, YOU CRUSHED IT.
WHO WANTS A SURFING MEDALLION?
Sandy puts a medal around Pounce.
Gemma says, YES, ME, ME!
Frizzy says, ME, ME, ME!
Pounce, Frizzy and Gemma say, WOW.
Pounce says, SO COOL!
Frizzy says, THANK YOU.
I DESERVE THIS.
[Gemma laughing]
Gemma says, THANKS!
The three cadets admire their medals. Behind them, Neville carries his surfboard. He looks disappointed. Sandy frowns. Neville puts down his board.
[Neville sighing sadly]
Sandy joins Neville by the water.
She says, NICE TRY, NEV.
TOP EFFORT.
BUT MAYBE THESE WAVES, THEY'RE
JUST A BIT BEYOND YOUR LIMIT AT
THE MOMENT.
Neville sighs, AW.
Pounce says, DON'T WORRY, NEVILLE.
WE'LL HELP YOU PRACTISE ON THE
SAND.
Neville asks, REALLY?
Frizzy says, TRUST US.
WE'RE PROFESSIONALS.
She holds up her medal. Behind her, in the sand, her board falls over. A splash of water reveals Neville wearing a helmet.
[Neville gasping]
Neville stands at the top of a sand dune on his surfboard.
He nervously asks, ARE YOU SURE THIS IS A GOOD
IDEA?
On either side of him, Gemma and Pounce stand on their boards also wearing helmets.
Gemma confidently says, ABSOLUTELY.
FOLLOW US.
YOU'LL BE FINE.
Gemma and Pounce surf down the sand. Neville wobbles on his board.
[Neville whimpering]
On the sand dune, Gemma cheers, WHOO!
WHOO!
At the top, Frizzy says, YOUR TURN, NEV!
She pushes Neville down the sand dune.
Neville says, WHOA!
Frizzy says, STAY BALANCED.
Neville wails, WHOA!
[Neville grunting]
Neville briefly wobbles on his board, then gains his balance.
Neville says, I CAN DO IT!
I CAN SURF!
He surfs further down the sand dune.
He says, I CAN'T STOP!
At the bottom of the sand dune, beachgoers relax on the sand.
Neville yells, WHOA!
The beachgoers look worried as Neville surfs past them. Further down the beach, other beachgoers jump out of Neville’s path.
One says, LOOK OUT!
Another says, GET OUT OF THE WAY!
A third says, WHOA!
Neville surfs up a ramp and through a lifeguard lookout where Bondi uses binoculars.
A beachgoer warns, WATCH OUT!
Neville flies off the ramp and past Bondi on his surfboard.
Neville screams, AH!
He crashes onto the beach and off his board.
Bondi says, WOBBLY WOMBATS!
WHERE'D HE COME FROM?
He looks around with a confused expression. Neville slides toward the water. He stands up and scratches his head.
He says, I CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT A
SURFBOARD WITHOUT FALLING OVER.
MAYBE THIS ISN'T MY SPORT.
The other cadets join Neville.
Gemma says, THAT'S OKAY, NEVILLE.
YOU'RE GREAT AT LOADS OF OTHER
THINGS, LIKE, UM...
She taps her chin.
Frizzy says, VIDEO GAMES!
Gemma says, AND MAKING THINGS.
Neville looks sad.
[Neville gasping]
Neville glances at his surfboard stuck in the sand. The fin on the board shines. Neville smiles.
He says, AHH!
At headquarters, Big Trev works on a jet ski.
He grunts, NEVER WORKS.
OH, HANG ON.
OH, COME ON, YOU BUCKET OF
BOLTS.
[Big Trev grunting]
[Rustling]
Neville joins Big Trev.
He says, HIYA, BIG TREV.
MIND IF I BORROW SOME STUFF?
Big Trev says, HUH, WHAT?
IF YOU MUST.
Neville says, THANKS!
He grabs a box of tools and knick knacks. Oil from the jet ski sprays Big Trev in the face as Neville walks away.
Big Trev groans, OH, GREAT GUM NUTS.
On the beach, Neville carries the box of knick knacks into a changing room. He pulls his surfboard inside and closes the door.
[Clattering]
Elsewhere on the beach, Pounce looks shocked.
He says, AMAZING.
Gemma says, INCREDIBLE!
[Upbeat music plays]
Neville expertly surfs a wave.
Frizzy says, AWESOME!
NEVILLE'S A SUPERSTAR!
The three cadets cheer, WOW!
WHOO-HOO!
Under water, a motor attached to the fin on Neville’s surfboard spins. On the board, Neville holds a remote.
He says, WHOO-HOO!
A SELF-CONTROLLED SURFBOARD?
WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS
EARLIER?
On the beach, Neville carries his board back to the changing room.
Neville says, LET'S JUST KEEP THIS BETWEEN YOU
AND ME.
He puts his board inside the changing room.
Pounce says, NEVILLE!
Neville jumps and quickly closes the door.
Ne nervously says, WHA…WHA?
Pounce says, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
Gemma says, ME NEITHER!
YOU GOT REALLY GOOD... REALLY
FAST.
She looks at Neville suspiciously.
Neville says, DID I?
Frizzy says, YEAH, AND I KNOW EXACTLY HOW.
She glares at Neville.
Neville nervously says, YOU DO?
Frizz says, MY SAND DUNE TRAINING!
She smiles.
Neville says, YEAH, IT WAS THAT.
THANKS, FRIZZY.
He looks relieved.
Pounce says, AND GUESS WHAT?
YOU'RE SO GOOD, WE'VE SIGNED YOU
UP FOR THE SURF PRO CARNIVAL!
Neville says, YOU DID WHAT?
Gemma says, IT'S THIS AFTERNOON.
Frizzy asks, EXCITED?
Neville says, TOTALLY…
At the lifeguard headquarters, Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy stand in the kitchen.
Nearby, Neville nervously says, UM, EVERYONE, I'VE GOT SOMETHING
I HAVE TO TELL YOU.
His friends turn around.
Pounce says, THERE YOU ARE.
WE MADE YOU LUNCH.
Gemma says, A GRILLED GRASS SANDWICH.
Frizzy says, AND A SHRUB SHAKE.
Frizzy and Gemma bring Neville the sandwich and shake.
Gemma says, SO, WHAT WAS IT YOU WANTED TO
TELL US?
Neville says, UH, I...
Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy look at Neville.
Neville says, …UH, LOVE YOU ALL SO
MUCH.
Gemma and Frizzy say, WHOA.
Pounce says, AW, RIGHT BACK AT YOU, MATE.
Frizzy says, NOW, EAT UP.
YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT ON
THOSE MONSTER WAVES.
[Gemma, Pounce and Frizzy cheering]
Neville takes a bite of his sandwich. He looks nervous.
He says, HMM…
At the Surf Pro Carnival, a crowd is gathered on the beach. Neville floats on his surfboard near the beach.
Ferdinand announces, WELCOME, DUDES AND
DUDE-ETTES, TO THE KANGAROO
BEACH SURF PRO CARNIVAL.
He speaks into a microphone from inside a food truck.
He says, THE FIRST COMPETITOR TO ENTER
THE WATER IS NEVILLE.
Pounce calls out, GOOD LUCK, NEV, NOT THAT YOU
NEED IT!
Neville paddles on his board.
[Neville groaning]
Gemma says, HE LOOKS A LITTLE NERVOUS.
Pounce says, MAYBE HE NEEDS MORE SURF WAX?
Gemma walks into Neville’s changing room. She reaches for Neville’s surf wax, which is beside a paper with Neville’s surfboard motor plans.
Gemma says, WHAT?
She picks up the plans.
She says, OH, NO!
LOOK!
Gemma shows Pounce and Frizzy the plans.
She says, THAT'S WHY HE GOT SO GOOD.
Pounce says, HUH?
HE'S GOT A MOTOR ON IT!
Frizzy looks shocked.
She says, SO IT WASN'T MY TRAINING.
Pounce says, WE HAVE TO STOP HIM!
On the water, Neville paddles over a tall wave.
Ferdinand announces, AND NEVILLE HEADS
OUT THE BACK JUST AS A HUGE SET
ROLLS IN.
Neville’s friends run toward the water.
Pounce yells, NEVILLE, COME BACK TO THE
BEACH!
Gemma waves her hands frantically.
Frizzy yells, WE KNOW YOU TRICKED US, BUT
WE DON'T CARE!
On the water, Neville says, HUH?
A tall wave starts to life his board.
Gemma yells, WE THINK YOU'RE AMAZING NO
MATTER WHAT!
Neville says, I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE
SOUND OF THE…
A giant wave curls over Neville.
Neville yells, AH!
The wave crashes over Neville.
[Water splashing]
[Ferdinand laughing]
Ferdinand says, WIPEOUT!
[Gemma gasping]
Frizzy covers her eyes.
Pounce says, OH, NO!
HE'S BROKEN HIS BOARD!
He leaves Gemma and Frizzy.
[Frizzy gasping]
Neville pops up from under water as half his board floats past him.
Ferdinand announces, HE'S ALRIGHT,
FOLKS.
[Frizzy sighing in relief]
Gemma calls out, HANG ON AND FLOAT!
Neville grabs onto the piece of his board.
Ferdinand says, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE
THE LITTLE FELLA COULD USE A
HAND.
Pounce hops over to the lifeguard headquarters as Sandy comes down the stairs.
Pounce says, SANDY!
NEVILLE!
He points to the water.
Sandy says, ON IT LIKE A SEAGULL ON A
CHIP.
She jumps off the dock and onto a jet ski.
She says, ROO TO THE RESCUE.
[Alarm blaring]
[Upbeat music plays]
In a montage, the Kangaroo Beach lifeguards prepare for rescue with radios, first aid kits, and rescue boards. The travel in their rescue vehicles, a helicopter, boat, submarine and golf cart. The junior cadets gather, ready for action, and pose.
[Neville whimpering]
On the water, Neville clings to his piece of broken surfboard as another tall wave curls over him.
Ferdinand says, WHOA!
The wave crashes over Neville.
Ferdinand says, NEVILLE TAKES ANOTHER POUNDING.
Gemma says, WHOA!
[Frizzy gasping]
Ferdinand says, THAT'S GOT TO
HURT.
Neville lies on his piece of surfboard as another wave curls around him.
He wails, WHOA!
Neville lies on his stomach as he rides the wave with the broken board.
Ferdinand says, BUT WAIT!
HE'S MADE IT OUT!
Gemma and Frizzy say, OOH!
Ferdinand says, NEVILLE'S RIPPING!
Neville says, WHOA, WHOA!
[Cheering]
Neville glides across the wave.
[Neville whimpering]
Neville flies off the water with the broken board, then back onto the wave.
Gemma says, WOW.
She and Frizzy look amazed.
Neville wails, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
He bounces across the wave.
Ferdinand says, HE'S CRUSHING IT
WOMBAT STYLE!
Neville flips with his board.
He yells, WHOA!
He rides off the wave.
[Laughing]
Neville smiles. He glides down the water back toward the beach.
Ferdinand says, WELL, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING
LIKE IT.
Sandy steers the jet ski toward the beach behind Neville.
Ferdinand continues, GROMMET TO GURU IN JUST ONE
DAY.
Neville slides onto the beach.
[Cheering]
Ferdinand says, GIVE IT UP FOR THE LITTLE
FELLA.
[Pounce, Gemma and Frizzy cheering]
Sandy hurries over to the cadets.
She says, NEV, YOU ALL GOOD?
[Neville sighing]
Neville briefly wobbles on his feet. Sandy kneels beside him.
Neville says, says, I THINK SO.
SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITHIN MY
LIMITS, RIGHT?
Sandy says, BINGO!
BUT HEY, GREAT JOB USING YOUR
BOARD TO STAY AFLOAT.
Neville smiles. His self-controlled surfboard motor and remote float to shore. Neville looks embarrassed.
He says, I'M SO SORRY I CHEATED.
I JUST WANTED TO SURF AS GOOD AS
YOU.
Pounce says, WHO CARES ABOUT SURFING,
NEVILLE?
YOU'RE GREAT AT OTHER STUFF.
Gemma says, LIKE BUILDING AMAZING
INVENTIONS.
Frizzy says, YEAH, AND BOOGIE-BOARDING.
Neville asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Sandy says, WHAT'S THAT?
WHAT YOU JUST DID!
THAT WAS SURFING BUT ON YOUR
BELLY.
Neville smiles.
Pounce says, HEY, NEVILLE, I THINK
YOU JUST FOUND YOUR SPORT.
Neville says, THANKS, EVERYONE.
THIS IS THE PROUDEST MOMENT OF
MY LIFE.
A seagull lands on his head.
[Seagull squawking]
Neville frowns. The seagull poops on his hat.
[Cadets and Sandy laughing]
Neville smiles.
[Neville laughing]
[Upbeat music plays]
