GRAN GRAN NARRATES: It was an autumn day. The leaves were changing colour and falling from the trees, and JoJo and Gran Gran-- That's me-- were getting a call from Great Gran Gran.
[Ringtone chimes, tablet beeps]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran picks up a tablet, and she and Jojo sit on a couch. Gran Gran taps the screen, and Great Gran Gran appears on it.
JOJO: Great Gran Gran!
[Cheerful music plays]
GREAT GRAN GRAN: JoJo, my little sunshine, how lovely to see you. What are you up to today?
[Paper rustles]

GRAN GRAN: Great. And because this is your family tree, we'll start with you here.
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo holds photos of her mummy and daddy.
JOJO: Ooh. Do mummy and daddy go next to me?
[Glue squelches, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran glues the photos above JoJo’s photo. She glues Uncle Tyrell’s photo beside JoJo’s daddy and then glues Lexi below Uncle Tyrell. She takes a photo out of one of the boxes and holds it so JoJo can't see it.
GRAN GRAN: Um, close. They go here, just above you. And then Uncle Tyrell goes next to Daddy, because he's his brother. And then Lexi goes below Uncle Tyrell because he's her daddy. And who do you think goes above Mummy?
JOJO: Um, you're Mummy's mummy, so is it you?
[Glue squelches, JoJo giggles]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo puts glue above her parents’ pictures, and Gran Gran puts her own picture down.
GRAN GRAN: Yes.
JOJO: And Great Gran Gran must go above you.

GRAN GRAN: Now, we can draw all the lines joining everyone.
[Upbeat music plays, crayon scrapes, glue squelches]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a red line from her photo to her parents. She draws a straight line between her parents. She draws a red line connecting Lexi to her parents, Uncle Tyrell and Auntie Dee. JoJo draws a curved green line attaching her daddy’s photo to Uncle Tyrell. She glues a photo of her grandad next to Gran Gran, then connects them with a red line to her mummy’s photo.
JOJO: Granddad goes next to you, Gran Gran.
GRAN GRAN: Yes, he does.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo connects Gran Gran’s photo to photos of Great Gran Gran and her great-granddad. She connects Great Gran Gran to her parents, Great Great Gran Gran and Great Great Granddad.
JOJO: Gran Gran, we need more family photos.
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: By the café in the park, Gran Gran and JoJo meet Auntie Dee, who holds a photo box.
JOJO: Thank you, Auntie Dee.
[Upbeat music continues]
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s kitchen table, JoJo takes a photo of a waving man out of the box and shows Panda. She gives the photo to Gran Gran, who glues it next to JoJo’s Grandad. JoJo connects the two men with a curved green line. A red line connects JoJo’s Granddad’s brother to a photo of a woman beneath his photo. They decorate the paper with a brown tree trunk on one side and a branch in one corner. JoJo makes green handprints and leaves by the branches. She adds a drawing of Panda beside her own photo.
[Whoosh]
GRAN GRAN: Look, JoJo. Your family tree has lots of branches now, just like a real tree.
[Photo rustles]

JOJO: Ooh. Can I see? Who's that, Gran Gran?
[Gran Gran chuckles]
GRAN GRAN: It's Granddad's brother, your great-uncle Leon. He was such a funny man.
JOJO: So, Auntie Dee is Great Uncle Leon's daughter?
GRAN GRAN: That's right. Which makes Auntie Dee mommy's cousin.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a dotted yellow line between her mommy and Auntie Dee.
JOJO: Wow. Mummy's cousin is Auntie Dee?
GRAN GRAN: Uh-huh.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a dotted yellow line between her photo and Lexi’s photo.
JOJO: Hmm. And my cousin is Lexi.
GRAN GRAN: Yes.
[JoJo giggles]
JOJO: Can we show our family tree to Great Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: Good idea, JoJo.
[Whoosh]

GREAT GRAN GRAN: Oh, that is fantastic! You even got Great Great Gran Gran and Great Great Granddad. But wait. There's someone missing.
GRAN GRAN: Oh. Is there?

DESCRIPTION: JoJo finds the photo under the table and gives it to Gran Gran.
JOJO: Is it this photo, Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: Of course! Josephine. We saw her in the family photo earlier.
GREAT GRAN GRAN: She's your great great gran gran's sister.
JOJO: "Josephine" sounds a bit like "JoJo."
[Gran Gran chuckles]
GRAN GRAN: That's because you were named after Josephine, JoJo.
JOJO: Wow! Josephine, JoJo.
[JoJo giggles]
GRAN GRAN: Okay. We better get this family tree finished.
GRAN GRAN: Bye, Mama.
JOJO: Bye, Great Gran Gran.
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet screen, Great Gran Gran waves.

GRAN GRAN: Oh, that's a very good idea.
[Shutter clicks]

[Glue squelches, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran glues the photos above JoJo’s photo. She glues Uncle Tyrell’s photo beside JoJo’s daddy and then glues Lexi below Uncle Tyrell. She takes a photo out of one of the boxes and holds it so JoJo can't see it.
GRAN GRAN: Um, close. They go here, just above you. And then Uncle Tyrell goes next to Daddy, because he's his brother. And then Lexi goes below Uncle Tyrell because he's her daddy. And who do you think goes above Mummy?
JOJO: Um, you're Mummy's mummy, so is it you?
[Glue squelches, JoJo giggles]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo puts glue above her parents’ pictures, and Gran Gran puts her own picture down.
GRAN GRAN: Yes.
JOJO: And Great Gran Gran must go above you.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo puts glue above Gran Gran’s photograph, and Gran Gran attaches a photograph of Great Gran Gran.
GRAN GRAN: Because she's my mummy.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran shows JoJo a sepia-toned photo of a smiling woman.
GRAN GRAN: And right above Great Gran Gran goes Great Great Gran Gran.
[JoJo giggles]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo turns to Panda.
JOJO: This is Great Great Gran Gran.
[Gran Gran giggles]
GRAN GRAN: That's Great Gran Gran's mummy.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo glues the photo above Great Gran Gran’s photo.
JOJO: Ooh. Great Great Gran Gran.
GRAN GRAN: Now, we can draw all the lines joining everyone.
[Upbeat music plays, crayon scrapes, glue squelches]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a red line from her photo to her parents. She draws a straight line between her parents. She draws a red line connecting Lexi to her parents, Uncle Tyrell and Auntie Dee. JoJo draws a curved green line attaching her daddy’s photo to Uncle Tyrell. She glues a photo of her grandad next to Gran Gran, then connects them with a red line to her mummy’s photo.
JOJO: Granddad goes next to you, Gran Gran.
GRAN GRAN: Yes, he does.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo connects Gran Gran’s photo to photos of Great Gran Gran and her great-granddad. She connects Great Gran Gran to her parents, Great Great Gran Gran and Great Great Granddad.
JOJO: Gran Gran, we need more family photos.
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: By the café in the park, Gran Gran and JoJo meet Auntie Dee, who holds a photo box.
JOJO: Thank you, Auntie Dee.
[Upbeat music continues]
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s kitchen table, JoJo takes a photo of a waving man out of the box and shows Panda. She gives the photo to Gran Gran, who glues it next to JoJo’s Grandad. JoJo connects the two men with a curved green line. A red line connects JoJo’s Granddad’s brother to a photo of a woman beneath his photo. They decorate the paper with a brown tree trunk on one side and a branch in one corner. JoJo makes green handprints and leaves by the branches. She adds a drawing of Panda beside her own photo.
[Whoosh]
GRAN GRAN: Look, JoJo. Your family tree has lots of branches now, just like a real tree.
[Photo rustles]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo leans over the table and knocks a photo off the box. The photo lands beneath the table. JoJo points to the photo of her Granddad’s waving brother.
JOJO: Ooh. Can I see? Who's that, Gran Gran?
[Gran Gran chuckles]
GRAN GRAN: It's Granddad's brother, your great-uncle Leon. He was such a funny man.
JOJO: So, Auntie Dee is Great Uncle Leon's daughter?
GRAN GRAN: That's right. Which makes Auntie Dee mommy's cousin.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a dotted yellow line between her mommy and Auntie Dee.
JOJO: Wow. Mummy's cousin is Auntie Dee?
GRAN GRAN: Uh-huh.
DESCRIPTION: JoJo draws a dotted yellow line between her photo and Lexi’s photo.
JOJO: Hmm. And my cousin is Lexi.
GRAN GRAN: Yes.
[JoJo giggles]
JOJO: Can we show our family tree to Great Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: Good idea, JoJo.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: From the tablet screen, Great Gran Gran peers at the family tree.
GREAT GRAN GRAN: Oh, that is fantastic! You even got Great Great Gran Gran and Great Great Granddad. But wait. There's someone missing.
GRAN GRAN: Oh. Is there?
JOJO: Um—
[JoJo gasps]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo finds the photo under the table and gives it to Gran Gran.
JOJO: Is it this photo, Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: Of course! Josephine. We saw her in the family photo earlier.
GREAT GRAN GRAN: She's your great great gran gran's sister.
JOJO: "Josephine" sounds a bit like "JoJo."
[Gran Gran chuckles]
GRAN GRAN: That's because you were named after Josephine, JoJo.
JOJO: Wow! Josephine, JoJo.
[JoJo giggles]
GRAN GRAN: Okay. We better get this family tree finished.
GRAN GRAN: Bye, Mama.
JOJO: Bye, Great Gran Gran.
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet screen, Great Gran Gran waves.
GREAT GRAN GRAN: Bye-bye, my darling.
[Crayon scratches]
DESCRIPTION: JoJo puts glue beside the sepia-toned photo of Great Great Gran Gran and attaches Josephine’s photo. She draws a curved green line connecting them.
JOJO: Great Great Gran Gran's sister Josephine.
GRAN GRAN: I think we've got everyone from Great Gran Gran's photo on the family tree now, JoJo.

GRAN GRAN: Well, I'm not sure exactly, but it's probably older than everyone in that photo.
[Birds sing, gentle music plays]
JOJO: Oh. Can we take a new photo?
GRAN GRAN: Oh, that's a very good idea.
[Shutter clicks]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran holds up the tablet and takes a picture of herself and JoJo smiling in front of the tree.
[Whoosh, soft music plays]

[Everyone cheers, laughs]
DESCRIPTION: The girl’s granddad and Nana sit on the couch, and everyone leans over and hugs them.

JOJO: I love making my family tree and finding out about Josephine.
GRAN GRAN: Oh, she'd think it's so special that you're named JoJo.
[Both laugh]
JOJO: And I'm glad the special tree is still here. I love you, Gran Gran.
[Coat rustles]
