Teacher Aldo stands in the lab.

Teacher Aldo is in his thirties, with short curly black hair and a shadow of a goatee. He wears glasses and a blue Homework Zone T-shirt.

He says HI I'M TEACHER
ALDO AND
WELCOME TO
THE HOMEWORK ZONE.
WHEN I MENTION THE
WORD PLANTS
WHAT
COMES TO MIND?
DO YOU THINK ABOUT
ITS STEM,
ITS
LEAVES?
MAYBE ITS FLOWERS
BUT HOW MANY
OF YOU THINK
ABOUT ITS ROOTS
AND WHAT ACTUALLY
GOES ON
DOWN THERE?
WELL YOU SEE PLANTS
DRINK WATER
JUST LIKE
YOU AND I -
THE QUESTION IS HOW
DO THEY DRINK WATER?
IT HAS EVERYTHING
TO DO WITH A
COMPLEX SERIES
OF CANALS CALLED
VESSELS, SPECIFICALLY
XYLEM VESSELS.
YOU SEE XYLEM
VESSELS ARE LITTLE
LITTLE TUBES THAT
TRAVEL UP AND
DOWN THE STEM
OF A FLOWER OR A
PLANT AND IT'S
THROUGH THESE
VESSELS THAT
WATER IS TRANSPORTED
UP FROM THE
ROOTS
INTO THE
LEAVES OF A PLANT.
LOOK AROUND YOUR
HOME OR TAKE A
LOOK IN YOUR
BACKYARD AND SEE
ALL THESE WONDERFUL
PLANTS OUT THERE.
CAN YOU TELL
IF THEY'RE HEALTHY,
CAN YOU TELL
IF THEY'RE
DRINKING WATER?

He turns his head towards a plant behind him and says IF THEY'RE STANDING
UP STRAIGHT
AND TALL LIKE
THIS PLANT, YOU KNOW
THAT THE XYLEM VESSELS
ARE WORKING;
I'M TEACHER ALDO
AND NOW YOU KNOW.
