The narrator says, COOKIE, CANDY, AND PUDDING! KID-E-CATS!
Title: Kid-E-Cats.
Cookie and Pudding say, WE'RE CUTE!
Candy says, BUT I'M CUTER!
All three say, ME-WOW!
Episode title: Message in a Bottle.
[Upbeat music plays, gulls calling]
A red flag flies on top of a lighthouse. On a beach, Daddy Cat and Mommy Cat relax on beach chairs.
The narrator says, ONE DAY, THE KITTENS WENT TO VISIT GRANDPA WITH THEIR MOMMY AND DADDY.
[Splashing]
By the shore, Candy, Pudding, Cookie and Grandpa stand with Grandpa Cat. Cookie throws rocks into the water.
Cookie says, CHECK THIS OUT! I BET I CAN THROW MY ROCK THE FARTHEST!
[Grunting, splashing, clattering, waves whooshing]
Cookie throws his rock into the water, and three glass bottles tangled in seaweed wash ashore by Pudding’s feet.
Candy says, OH, WHERE'D ALL THESE BOTTLES COME FROM?
Grandpa Cat says, SOMEONE THREW THEM IN THE OCEAN. IT'S A SHAME, THERE'S BEEN FAR TOO MUCH TRASH IN THE WATER RECENTLY.
[Bottles clinking, gull calling]
Grandpa Cat puts the bottles on the beach.
Pudding asks, GRANDPA, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ANYTHING INTERESTING WASH UP?
Grandpa Cat replies, I'VE FOUND A TON OF INTERESTING THINGS! ONE TIME I FOUND A VERY OLD ANTIQUE BOTTLE WASHED UP ON THIS VERY SHORE. IT WAS 300 YEARS OLD.
The kittens say, OH, WOW!
Cookie asks, AND WHAT WAS INSIDE OF IT? A GENIE?
[Slide whistle, Cookie laughing, water splashing, lively music plays]
In a thought bubble, Cookie imagines Grandpa Cat taking a bottle out of the water, and a genie floats out.
The genie says, YOU HAVE FREED ME FROM MY BOTTLE, AND NOW I WILL GRANT YOU THREE WISHES, KIND SAILOR.
Grandpa Cat says, I WISH FOR A NEW MOTOR FOR MY BOAT.
[Clapping, chiming bubbling, clicking]
The genie claps, and a boat appears behind Grandpa Cat. Large jet motors pop out of the back.
Grandpa says, WHOA!
[Slide whistle, popping, everyone laughing, gull calling]
The thought bubble disappears.
Grandpa Cat says, NOT EXACTLY. INSIDE IT WAS A NOTE.
The kittens ask, A NOTE?
[Slide whistle, feather pen scratching, serene music plays]
In a thought bubble, a sailor on a raft writes on paper.
Grandpa Cat replies, UH-HUH! A SAILOR BACK THEN HAD WRITTEN ALL ABOUT HIS GREAT ADVENTURES. HE HOPED THE BOTTLE WOULD FLOAT ALL THE WAY BACK TO HIS FRIENDS AND THEY COULD READ ABOUT IT.
[Whooshing, clicking, splashing, slide whistle, popping, waves whooshing, Cookie chuckling]
The sailor puts the note into the bottle and throws the bottle past the shark fins circling his raft. The thought bubble disappears.
Cookie asks, HOW COME HE DIDN'T JUST CALL THEM?
Grandpa Cat replies, BECAUSE, BACK IN THOSE DAYS, THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY TELEPHONES.
Pudding asks, HEY, GRANDPA, CAN WE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS OLD BOTTLE?
[Waves crashing]
Grandpa Cat replies, I GAVE IT TO THE MUSEUM. I'LL TAKE YOU KITTENS TO SEE IT SOMETIME, BUT THESE BOTTLES DON'T NEED TO GO TO THE MUSEUM. WE'LL PUT THEM IN THE RECYCLING BIN.
The narrator says, LATER, GRANDPA AND DADDY WENT FISHING ON THEIR BOAT WHILE MOMMY AND THE KITTENS PLAYED ON THE BEACH.
[Thumping, bright music plays]
Daddy Cat throws a bag into a rowboat. On the beach, Mommy Cat stands beside her beach chair. She and the kittens wave.
Daddy Cat says, SEE YOU LATER! DON'T MISS US TOO MUCH! BYE-BYE!
[Water splashing]
Grandpa Cat rows the boat away from shore.
Grandpa Cat says, BYE-BYE!
The kittens say, BYE-BYE!
[Upbeat music plays, sand rustling, water splashing]
Mommy Cat sits on her chair and opens a book. The kittens grab their pails and shovels. They run to another part of the beach, and Pudding and Cookie make a sandcastle. Candy collects seashells by the edge of the water.
Candy says, OH!
[Water splashing, shells clattering, gulls calling]
Candy runs away from a wave. She returns to her pail and drops her shells in. She takes the pail to her brothers, and Cookie and Pudding decorate the sandcastle with the shells.
The narrator says, THE KITTENS BUILT A SANDCASTLE, BUT THEY SOON RAN OUT OF THINGS TO DO.
[Lid clattering]
Pudding drinks from a water bottle and puts the lid on.
Pudding says, I CAN'T WAIT TO GO TO THE MUSEUM AND SEE THAT OLD BOTTLE AND NOTE.
[Waves crashing, rustling]
Cookie asks, WHAT IF WE WROTE OUR OWN MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, AND THEN THREW IT IN THE OCEAN?
Candy says, OH, YEAH! THEN SOMEONE IN THE FUTURE WOULD FIND IT A LEARN ABOUT US!
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
[Water dripping]
Cookie empties Pudding’s plastic water bottle.
Cookie asks, SO, WHAT DO WE WRITE?
[Waves splashing]
Pudding says, MAYBE WE SHOULD DRAW SOMETHING INSTEAD. FUTURE CATS MIGHT NOT SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE THAT WE DO. THAT'S WHY DRAWINGS ARE GOOD.
Candy says, LET'S DRAW US WAVING TO THE CATS IN THE FUTURE TO SAY HEY.
[Pencil scratching, kittens laughing]
Pudding draws on a notepad.
[Snoring, gulls calling, gentle music plays, line creaking, bell ringing]
In the rowboat, Daddy Cat and Grandpa Cat nap, holding fishing rods. Daddy Cat’s line moves and a bell on his rod rings.
Daddy Cat says, OH, I GOT A BITE FINALLY!
Grandpa Cat says, HM, ABOUT TIME. I THOUGHT WE'D BE GOING BACK EMPTY-HANDED.
[Reel cranking, whooshing, Daddy Cat chuckling, rustling, waves sloshing]
Grandpa Cat catches Daddy Cat’s catch in a net. Daddy Cat pulls seaweed off the plastic bottle with the note inside.
Daddy Cat says, AW, IT'S JUST A PLASTIC BOTTLE.
Grandpa Cat says, YEAH, THE POLLUTION AROUND THESE PARTS HAS GOTTEN WORSE IN RECENT YEARS.
Daddy Cat says, HM, LOOKS LIKE THERE'S SOME PAPER INSIDE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Daddy Cat unrolls the picture of the three kittens on the beach.
Daddy Cat says, HUH, IT'S OUR KITTENS, BUT WHY WOULD THEY THROW THIS OUT?
[Rustling]
Grandpa Cat says, DON'T WORRY, I KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Later, on the beach, the kittens play with their sandcastle.
Grandpa Cat says, KITTENS, YOUR DADDY AND I FOUND THIS WHILE WE WERE FISHING.
Cookie says, YEAH, THAT'S THE MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE WE SENT FOR THE CATS OF THE FUTURE TO LEARN ABOUT US. WE THREW IT OUT TO SEA LIKE THAT SAILOR.
Pudding says, OH, NO, NOW THEY'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET IT.
[Pudding crying]
Candy says, YEAH, IT'S TOO BAD YOU HAD TO CATCH IT.
[Note rustling, gulls calling]
Grandpa Cat says, NO, IT'S GOOD. IT'S A GREAT THING WE CAUGHT YOUR BOTTLE. WE SHOULD NOT BE THROWING BOTTLES INTO THE OCEAN. THEY DIDN'T KNOW THIS 300 YEARS AGO, BUT NOW WE KNOW THAT THROWING TRASH INTO THE OCEAN CREATES POLLUTION THAT'S BAD FOR THE WILDLIFE, YOU KNOW?
Mommy Cat says, YES, GRANDPA'S RIGHT. THE OCEAN HAS ENTIRE ISLANDS MADE UP OF JUST TRASH.
[Slide whistles, serious music plays, whooshing]
In a thought bubble, a pile of trash floats in the ocean. The thought bubble disappears.
The kittens say, OH, NO!
Pudding says, WE DIDN'T KNOW ALL OF THAT.
Cookie says, GARBAGE ISLANDS ARE DEFINITELY NOT SO AWESOME.
Candy says, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA. WE SHOULD WALK ALONG THE BEACH AND PICK UP ALL THE GARBAGE WE SEE THAT WASHES UP ON THE SHORE.
Daddy Cat says, THAT IS A GREAT IDEA, CANDY.
[Chuckling]
Daddy Cat says, WE WEREN'T CATCHING ANY FISH ANYWAY.
Cookie asks, BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR-- OUR DRAWING FOR THE FUTURE CATS?
Grandpa Cat says, HOW ABOUT WE TAKE A PICTURE OF IT AND POST IT ON THE INTERNET, THEN THOSE FUTURE CATS WILL DEFINITELY BE ABLE TO SEE IT. AH.
[Upbeat music plays, camera lens snapping]
Cookie holds the picture, and Grandpa Cat takes a photograph with his camera.
Grandpa Cat says, I GOT IT.
[Chuckling]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
[Splashing]
Cookie scoops up a bottle from the water with a fishing net.
Cookie says, CHECK IT OUT, I CAUGHT A BOTTLE JUST NOW.
Pudding says, AND MOMMY AND I CAUGHT A WHOLE BAG FULL OF GARBAGE TO THROW OUT.
[Tapping]
Mommy, Pudding, and Candy use grabbers and drop trash into a bag.
Candy says, THE BEACH IS PRETTY WHEN THERE'S NO MORE TRASH.
[Giggling, rustling, gulls calling]
On the rowboat, Daddy Cat and Grandpa Cat scoop trash out of the water with their fishing nets.
The narrator says, SO, THAT'S HOW THE KITTENS LEARNED WE MUSTN'T THROW GARBAGE IN THE SEA, AND THAT THE BEST MESSAGE TO THE CATS OF THE FUTURE IS HAPPY SEA LIFE AND CLEAN SEAS.
