[Cheerful music plays]

A path leads up a grassy hill to a town of brightly coloured houses. Cookie, an orange tabby, wears a blue striped shirt and a blue sailor hat with a picture of an anchor on it. Pudding, an orange tabby, wears a blue shirt and hat. Candy, an orange tabby, wears a red dress and bow.

[Upbeat music plays, birds chirp]

A narrator says, IN THIS LITTLE TOWN LIVES A KITTEN NAMED COOKIE, HIS BIG BROTHER PUDDING, AND THEIR LITTLE SISTER CANDY. LOTS OF OTHER KITTENS LIVE HERE TOO.

Kittens wave happily.

The narrator says, COOKIE, CANDY, AND PUDDING! KID-E-CATS!

Title: Kid-E-Cats.

Cookie and Pudding say, WE'RE CUTE!

Candy says, BUT I'M CUTER!

All three say, ME-WOW!

Episode title: The Language of Friendship.

[Chiming, birds chirping, clattering, rustling]

Fluffy blue clouds float above the Kid-E-Cats yellow and red two-storey house. Daddy Cat walks to the car's open trunk, and the rest of the family follows him.

The narrator says, ONE DAY, DADDY AND THE KITTENS WANTED TO GO FISHING.

Cookie asks, DADDY, WHERE ARE ALL OUR FISHING RODS?

Daddy Cat replies, SORRY, LOOKS LIKE WE LEFT THEM AT YOUR GRANDPA'S HOUSE. BUT DON'T WORRY, WE'LL STOP AT A STORE AND GET NEW ONES ALONG THE WAY.

Mommy Cat says, AND DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP A SNACK WHILE YOU'RE THERE.

Candy says, FISHING IS GOING TO BE SO COOL.

[Happy music plays]

The kittens say, SO AWESOME.

They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!

[Trunk slamming, engine rumbling]

Daddy cat shuts the trunk. Mommy Cat waves as Daddy Cat and the kittens drive away.

Mommy Cat says, BYE, KITTENS.

[Upbeat music plays]

At the store, Daddy Cat says, ALL RIGHT, I'LL GO CHECK OUT THE FISHING RODS, AND YOU KITTENS CAN CHOOSE SOME GOOD SNACKS.

[Rustling]

Candy takes two boxes off a shelf.

Candy asks, CHOCOLATE BISCUITS OR PEANUTS?

Cookie and Pudding say, CHOCOLATE, PLEASE.

[Rustling]

Candy puts a box on the shelf. She looks through the open back of the shelf and watches two cats using sign language.

Candy says, HUH? THAT'S INTERESTING. THEY'RE USING THEIR PAWS INSTEAD OF TALKING.

[Rustling, upbeat music plays]

A Mom Cat and a Dad Cat show a girl hats. She wears a red hat and checks her reflection in a mirror.

Cookie says, MAYBE IT'S THEIR OWN SECRET LANGUAGE, SO NOBODY CAN FIGURE OUT THEIR SUPER SECRETS. MAYBE THEY'RE SECRET AGENTS OR SOMETHING.

[Slide whistle, clicking, whirring, zapping, beeping, squeaking, slide whistle, popping]

In a thought bubble, Cookie imagines the cat family revealing a secret door and sneaking into a hallway. Clothing shelves move and block the door and the thought bubble pops.

Cookie says, WE SHOULD FOLLOW THEM AND SEE WHAT THEY'RE UP TO.

[Gasping, paper rustling]

Cookie peers around the end of the aisle, and Candy runs into him. Pudding runs into Candy’s back.

Candy says, KEEP IT QUIET.

Pudding says, LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE BUYING A MAP OF THE PARK. MAYBE THEY CAME FROM SPACE AND THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET AROUND ON EARTH.

Cookie asks, YOU THINK EVERYONE ON THEIR PLANET TALKS WITH THEIR PAWS TOO?

[Slide whistle, crashing, whirring, beeping, exciting music plays, slide whistle, popping, clanking]

In a thought bubble, a spaceship crashes, and three cat aliens jump out. Light swirls around them, and they transform into the cat family. The thought bubble disappears. The cat family picks up pots, and the kittens watch them through a tent window.

Candy says, MAYBE THEY'RE A FAMILY OF MAGICAL WIZARDS, AND THEY CAST MAGIC SPELLS WITH THEIR HANDS.

[Slide whistle, eerie music plays, splashing, smoke poofing, chiming, slide whistle, popping, footsteps pattering]

The cat family stands around a cauldron. They drop a flower and a shoe into the cauldron and then add a potion. Smoke puffs, and a butterfly appears. The thought bubble pops. In the store, the cat family carries the map and a pot past the tent.

Candy says, WE'VE GOT TO FOLLOW THEM AND SEE WHAT THEY'RE DOING. I DON'T WANT TO MISS THEM CASTING A SPELL.

[Thunking, Candy exclaiming, thumping, rustling]

Candy trips over a tent rope and stumbles into the back of the girl wearing the red hat. Candy drops the cookie box, and the girl picks it up and gives it to her.

Candy says, UH, THANKS A LOT.

[Upbeat music plays]

Daddy Cat arrives with the fishing rods.

Daddy Cat says, HEY, KITTENS. I FOUND THE FISHING RODS. LET'S PAY FOR THEM SO WE CAN GET BACK ON THE ROAD. COME ON.

[Car engine starting, birds chirping]

Daddy Cat drives the car out of the store parking lot.

Candy says, I WONDER WHAT THE KITTEN WAS TRYING TO SAY TO US AT THE STORE.

Pudding says, I WISH I SPOKE HER ALIEN LANGUAGE.

Cookie says, IT'D BE SO COOL IF WE WERE FRIENDS WITH HER.

HOW AWESOME WOULD IT BE IF SHE TAUGHT US HOW TO SPEAK HER ALIEN LANGUAGE?

[Car engine rumbling, splashing]

Daddy Cat drives past a sign with a picture of a fish and hook. The kittens walk to the edge of the shore and watch fish jump.

The narrator says, DADDY AND THE KITTENS ARRIVED AT THE LAKE AND FOUND THE PERFECT SPOT FOR FISHING.

[Rattling, birds singing]

Daddy Cat takes the rods out of the trunk.

Daddy Cat says, OH, I FORGOT TO GET BOBBERS AT THE STORE.

Pudding says, OH, NO, NOW WE'RE NEVER GOING TO GO FISHING.

[Pudding whimpering, rods clattering]

The kittens drop their rods onto the ground.

Daddy Cat says, OH, NOT TO WORRY, PUDDING. I'M SURE THERE'S A WAY WE CAN FIND SOME.

[Reel cranking, splashing, rustling, bubbling]

Someone casts a fishing line into the lake on the other side of bullrushes and bushes. Daddy Cat and the kittens peer over the bushes and see the cat family. The Mom Cat fishes while the child and adult tend to the pot over a campfire.

Daddy Cat says, LOOK, OUR NEIGHBOURS ARE FISHING AS WELL. I'LL ASK IF WE CAN BORROW A BOBBER.

Candy says, NOT SO FAST, DADDY. THOSE AREN'T ORDINARY CATS.

Cookie says, THEY SPEAK A LANGUAGE WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

Pudding says, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THEM. THEY JUST MOVE THEIR PAWS AROUND.

Candy says, IT'S TRUE, AND THEY MIGHT BE MAGIC WIZARDS.

[Daddy Cat laughing, birds chirping]

Daddy Cat says, I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THAT, CANDY. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THEY PROBABLY JUST SPEAK TO EACH OTHER USING SIGN LANGUAGE. LET ME GO ASK IF WE CAN BORROW WHAT WE NEED TO FISH.

[Bushes rustling, bubbling]

Daddy Cat waves over the bushes.

Daddy Cat says, AHEM. HI THERE. MY KITTENS AND I ARE TRYING TO GO FISHING IN THE LAKE, BUT I FORGOT OUR BOBBERS.

[The Mom Cat laughing, birds chirping, light music plays]

The Mom Cat says, NO PROBLEM. PLEASE TAKE SOME OF OURS. WE'VE GOT PLENTY.

Daddy Cat says, WHOA, THANKS A TON.

Candy says, WE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN ALIENS OR MAGICAL WIZARDS BECAUSE YOU WERE USING YOUR PAWS TO TALK.

[The other adult chuckling, bubbling]

The other adult, the Dad Cat, says, NOPE, NO WIZARDS AROUND HERE. OUR FAMILY USES SIGN LANGUAGE BECAUSE OUR DAUGHTER MARGARET CAN'T HEAR US.

Pudding says, OH, NO. WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK WITH SIGN LANGUAGE.

Candy says, I'VE GOT A REALLY GOOD IDEA. MAYBE WE CAN ALL LEARN SOME IF WE ASK MARGARET TO TEACH US. COME ON.

[Hands smacking, bubbling]

Candy and the girl, Margaret, shake hands.

Candy says, HI, MARGARET. LET'S BE FRIENDS.

Margaret signs.

The Dad Cat says, MARGARET SAYS SHE'D LOVE TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE THREE OF YOU.

[Happy music plays]

The kittens say, SO AWESOME.

They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!

Margaret waves her arms and dances.

[Laughing]

The children run in circles around the campsite. Daddy and Mom cat sit together and fish.

The narrator says, AND THAT'S HOW THE KITTENS LEARNED THAT BEING FRIENDLY IS A LANGUAGE WE CAN ALL SPEAK.
