A red flag flies on top of Grandpa Cat’s lighthouse. Inside, Grandpa Cat and the kittens stand around a box.
The narrator says, ONE DAY, THE KITTENS FOUND GRANDPA SORTING THROUGH A BOX FROM HIS SAILING DAYS.
Cookie asks, GRANDPA, WHAT'S THAT BIG, GIANT NET FOR?
[Slide whistle, whooshing, splashing, thumping, slide whistle, popping]
In the thought bubble, young Grandpa Cat throws the net over the side of a ship and pulls it up filled with fish. The thought bubble pops.
Grandpa Cat replies, THAT'S A PIECE OF MY VERY FIRST FISHING NET, COOKIE. BACK WHEN I WAS A SAILOR, I USED TO CATCH FISH WITH IT.
Candy says, A WHEEL. IS IT FROM A CAR?
Grandpa Cat says, THIS IS A SHIP'S WHEEL, FOR SAILING. THE SHIP IS RETIRED NOW, BUT SHE SURE SAW PLENTY OF ADVENTURES WHEN SHE WAS AT SEA.
[Slide whistle, engine humming, slide whistle, popping]
In a thought bubble, young Grandpa Cat steers the ship around rocks. The thought bubble pops.
Pudding says, WHOA. A SPYGLASS, YOU GUYS.
Grandpa Cat says, SURE. I WOULD LOOK THROUGH IT FROM THE DECK TO SEE IF THERE WAS LAND ON THE HORIZON.
[Slide whistle, clicking, cheerful music plays, whooshing]
In a thought bubble, young Grandpa peers through the spyglass and finds a small island.
Young Grandpa Cat shouts, LAND AHOY. LAND AHOY!
[Laughing, slide whistle, popping]]
The thought bubble pops.
Candy asks, GRANDPA, WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH ALL THESE COOL THINGS?
[Rustling]
Grandpa Cat rubs the side of the box.
Grandpa Cat says, I'M NOT QUITE SURE, CANDY. I'D THROW IT ALL AWAY TOMORROW, BUT IT ALL HOLDS FAR TOO MANY MEMORIES.
Cookie asks, CAN WE PLAY WITH THEM, GRANDPA?
Grandpa Cat replies, WHY, OF COURSE YOU CAN. YOU KITTENS COULD GIVE THESE DUSTY OLD THINGS A WHOLE NEW LIFE.
Candy says, HOORAY! WE CAN BE SAILORS LIKE GRANDPA.
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
[Waves splashing, rustling, happy music plays]
On the beach, Pudding stands a flag with a fish on it in the corner of their cardboard box ship. Candy turns the steering wheel.
The narrator says, THE KITTENS FOUND A LARGE BOX, TURNED IT INTO A SHIP, AND SET SAIL FOR ADVENTURES AT SEA.
Cookie says, FULL SPEED AHEAD TOWARD TREASURE ISLAND.
Cookie lifts a cardboard anchor.
Candy says, THERE ARE BIG ROCKS IN THE WAY. STEER LEFT.
[Cracking, thumping]
The wheel falls on the sand with two broken handles.
Cookie and Pudding say, OH.
Candy says, OH, NO.
OUR SHIP'S WHEEL IS BROKEN.
Pudding says, AND WHEN THE SEA IS THIS STORMY, THAT CAN'T BE GOOD. BUT I KNOW WHAT TO DO. THERE MIGHT BE LAND. LET'S SEE.
[Clicking, water splashing]
Pudding peers at the water, and discovers the spyglass is cracked.
Pudding says, HMM. OH, NO. THE LENS IN OUR SPYGLASS IS ALL CRACKED.
Candy says, SO, WE HAVE A BROKEN SPYGLASS AND A BROKEN WHEEL. WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO AT SEA?
Cookie says, I KNOW. LET'S CATCH SOME FISH.
[Rustling, toys squeaking]
Pudding throws toys on the beach, and Cookie throws the net over them.
Cookie says, WHOA. CHECK OUT THIS HAUL. HEAVE HO. READY?
[Rustling]
The kittens pull on the net.
The kittens say, HEAVE HO!
[Toys squeaking]
The toys fall out of the net. Pudding picks it up and looks through a hole.
Pudding says, OH, NO. THERE'S A HOLE IN OUR FISHING NET.
[Rustling]
Pudding drops the net.
Candy says, WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH ALL THESE OLD BROKEN THINGS, PUDDING? IT'S JUST NO FUN PLAYING SAILORS ANYMORE.
[Gentle music plays]
Pudding says, WE COULD DONATE THEM TO A MUSEUM, MAYBE. I THINK THEY'D LOVE THIS STUFF. DON'T YOU?
[Camera shutter snapping, chiming]
In Grandpa’s house, Pudding photographs the wheel, spyglass, and net, and emails the photographs to the museum.
The narrator says, AND SO, WITH GRANDPA'S PERMISSION, THE KITTENS TOOK PHOTOS OF ALL THE ITEMS AND SENT THEM TO THE MARITIME MUSEUM NEARBY. VERY SOON, A WORKER FROM THE MUSEUM GAVE THEM A CALL.
[Telephone ringing]
A worker appears on a tablet screen.
The kittens say, HI, MUSEUM.
The museum worker says, GOOD AFTERNOON, KITTENS. THANK YOU FOR SENDING YOUR PICTURES.
Pudding says, YOU'RE WELCOME. DOES THE MUSEUM WANT OUR OLD THINGS?
The museum worker says, WELL, KITTENS, SEVERAL OF YOUR ITEMS AREN'T OLD ENOUGH FOR OUR MUSEUM.
The kittens say, AW.
Pudding asks, THEN WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH THEM?
The museum worker says, DON'T WORRY. I'M SURE THREE SUCH SMART KITTENS WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE FINDING USE FOR THEM.
[Sad music plays, rustling]
On the beach, Cookie drags the net to where Candy sits beside the broken wheel, and Pudding holds the spyglass.
Cookie says, OH, WELL. EVERYTHING'S HERE. I GUESS WE SHOULD PUT THEM IN THE BOX AGAIN.
Pudding asks, HEY, CANDY. CAN YOU THINK OF ANYTHING WE CAN DO?
Candy replies, AH, I ONLY WISH I KNEW.
Cookie says, MAYBE WE COULD TAKE THE NET AND MAKE IT INTO A ROYAL CAPE.
[Slide whistle, grunting, creaking]
In a thought bubble, Cookie wears a crown and the net.
Cookie says, HUH?
The net cape snags on a branch.
[Whooshing, rustling]
Pudding imagines hanging the net over a window.
Pudding says, OR CURTAINS FOR WINDOWS. OH. GUESS NOT.
[Creaking, slide whistle, popping, waves crashing]
Pudding imagines his arm stuck in the hole in the net. The thought bubble pops.
Candy says, LET'S JUST SIT AND THINK. WE'LL COME UP WITH SOMETHING.
[Rustling]
Pudding drops the net onto the sand.
Pudding says, LYING DOWN'S EVEN BETTER. THAT'S WHEN I GET MOST OF MY BEST IDEAS.
Candy says, HEY. WHAT IF WE HANG UP THE NET, LIKE BETWEEN TWO TREES? YOU KNOW, LIKE A NICE, BIG HAMMOCK. WE COULD LAY ON THAT, AND THEN THINK.
Cookie says, WAY TO GO, CANDY.
Pudding says, WHAT A GREAT IDEA.
[Rustling, upbeat music plays]
The narrator says, THE KITTENS ASKED THEIR GRANDPA TO HELP THEM MAKE A HAMMOCK FROM THE FISHING NET.
[Candy laughing, thumping]
Candy sits on the hammock.
Candy says, OH. I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING. WE COULD TURN THE OTHER THINGS INTO STUFF WE COULD USE, TOO, RIGHT? COULDN'T WE, GRANDPA?
Grandpa Cat says, BRILLIANT, CANDY. WE'LL START RIGHT AWAY.
[Clicking]
In Grandpa Cat’s house, Pudding puts a photograph of young Grandpa Cat in the centre of the wheel, and Candy rolls it across the floor.
The narrator says, WITH GRANDPA'S HELP, THE KITTENS TURNED THE SHIP'S WHEEL INTO A NEW PICTURE FRAME, AND THE BROKEN SPYGLASS INTO A SUPER COOL KALEIDOSCOPE.
[Rattling, clicking]
Candy puts coloured rocks into the spyglass, and Grandpa Cat puts a cover on the end. He looks through it and turns the end.
Grandpa Cat says, GREAT JOB, KITTENS. YOU'VE TAKEN THESE OLD THINGS AND TRANSFORMED THEM INTO SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL.
Cookie says, TOO BAD YOU DON'T HAVE ANY MORE STUFF. THEN WE COULD MAKE THINGS OUT OF THOSE, TOO.
Grandpa Cat says, BEFORE YOUR NEXT TRIP, I'LL HUNT AROUND THE HOUSE AND FIND YOU KITTENS SOMETHING NEW, OKAY? UH, I MEAN, SOMETHING OLD.
[Everyone laughing, happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
[Waves crashing, gentle music plays]
On the beach, the kittens share the kaleidoscope in the hammock.
The narrator says, AND SO, THE KITTENS LEARNED THAT OLD THINGS SHOULDN'T JUST BE THROWN AWAY, BUT THAT WITH A LITTLE IMAGINATION, THEY CAN ALWAYS BE MADE INTO SOMETHING NEW.
[Upbeat music plays]
