Transcript: Ellie's Island/Buckley's Wombatty Playdate
Work It Out Wombats
Descriptive Transcript
[Slide whistle, rhythmic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: A staircase spirals around the tree trunk of the Treeborhood. Tiny houses are nestled in the tree. In the Wombat’s house, Malik, a blue-grey wombat, Zadie, a purple wombat, and Zeke, a yellow wombat, sleep in hammocks. They wake up, jump out of their hammocks, and high-five each other. Their grandmother, Super, a blue wombat with pink hair, pours milk and breakfast cereal into their bowls. Zeke holds his stuffed wombat, Snout. The children leave the house and slide across tree branches.
MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE SING: When there's a problem, what do we say? Work it out, work it out, work it out, wombats. Where there's a will, there's always way. Work it out, work it out, work it out, wombats.
ZADIE SINGS: We’ve got ideas for days.
MALIK SINGS: Solve problems lots of ways.
ZEKE SINGS: I love it when we play…
MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE SING: All together.
DESCRIPTION: Ellie, an orange moose, jumps on a trampoline, and her blue hat flies off. In a hot air balloon basket, Malik catches the hat and returns it to Ellie.
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
ZADIE SINGS: Hey, I'm Zadie; bring on the problems. Try some different things 'til we solve 'em.
DESCRIPTION: Zadie puts apples on a table. The apples fall, and Zadie and Mr. E, a green iguana with a black bowler hat, pick the apples up.
[Whoosh, slide whistle]
MALIK SINGS: I'm Malik. We'll work it out, just wait. We make some plans, and then we build and create.
DESCRIPTION: Malik rides in a go-kart with his friend JunJun, a pink Philippine Eagle. They both wear helmets.
ZEKE SINGS: I'm Zeke, here's snout. We like to explore.
MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE SING: Let's go do it, one, two, three, four. Help's never far away, that's for sure. Work it out, work it out, work it out, wombats. Come join the fun, you ready? Let's go. Work it out, work it out, work it out, wombats. Work it out, work it out, work it out, wombats. Yeah!

ZADIE: Huh?
[Slide whistle, light music plays]

MALIK: Ha! Gotcha! You're it!

ZADIE: Look!
[Slide whistles, rope creaks]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke rides in a barrel on an elevator.
ZEKE: Hi! Me and Snout found this new elevator. I'm gonna see where it goes.
[Rope creaks]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Malik hop onto the elevator.
MALIK: Looks like it's going to the top of the tree. All the way to...Ellie's house?
DESCRIPTION: Ellie pulls the rope and lifts the barrel and wombats to her deck.
ELLIE: Malik? Zadie? Zeke? What on earth?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie lowers the elevator onto her deck and removes the barrel. The wombats jump onto the deck.
MALIK: Ellie, when did you get your own elevator?
ELLIE: Sorry to be the one to tell ya, but this isn't an elevator. It's just a plain old, nothing special barrel.
[Barrel thumps, musical flourish plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie rolls the barrel into her house.
ELLIE: Ta-da!
ZEKE: Aww, I wanted it to be an elevator.
ELLIE: Actually, it's more like a suitcase, which I'm going to pack full of presents.
[Music notes chime, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie gestures at boxes of crackers, comic books, and clothes on a table.
ZEKE: For us presents?
[Rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie takes a family photograph off the wall, featuring five people gathered around the colourful Nyabinghi drum.
ELLIE: No, sweetie. Presents for some friends, for my family, and for Nani.
ZEKE: What's a Nani?
[The music stops]
ELLIE: She's my grandma, just like Super is your grandma.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie points to people in the picture. She points to her Nani, who has curly brown hair and wears eyeglasses, hoop earrings, and a floral-patterned shirt.
ELLIE: These are my aunts, uncles, and cousins. And this is my sunny, funny grandma, Nani.
[She chuckles]
ELLIE: Tomorrow is Nani's birthday. So, today...
[Rustle, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie puts the photograph back on the wall and twirls.
ELLIE: I am going home. So, we can all be together on her special day.
[Whoosh, thump, soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke hugs Ellie’s leg.
ZEKE: But this is your home, isn't it? Isn't the Treeborhood your home?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie picks Zeke up and puts him on her shoulder.
ELLIE: Of course, it is. But I was born in Jamaica, and most of my family is there, so that's my other home.
ZEKE: Wait, you have two homes?
DESCRIPTION: Ellie nods.
ZEKE: And what's a Jamaica?
[Ellie chuckles]
ELLIE: I can see I have a lot of questions to answer.
[Upbeat tropical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie gestures to a picture on the wall showing a map of Jamaica and a photograph of a beach and mountains. She points to a Jamaican flag on her wall.
ELLIE: This is Jamaica. It's an island with mountains, and cities, and wide, beautiful beaches. I like to keep things from Jamaica around me, like the flag...
DESCRIPTION: Ellie puts Zeke on the floor and walks to the drum.
ELLIE: And Nani's favourite Nyabinghi drum.
[Drumming]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie plays the drum, and Zeke dances. Zadie brings a pair of pants to Ellie.
ZADIE: Wait, are you bringing sparkle pants to Jamaica?
[Pants rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie folds the pants and puts them on the table.
ELLIE: Yep. I'm bringing things that are hard to find down there, like sparkle pants and Super's cornmeal crackers.
[Jars rattle, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. slides down a pole beside a ladder, carrying a box of jars.
MR. E.: And Duffy's famous peach plum jam.
ELLIE: Thank you, Mr. E. You can put that on the table.
[Jars clatter, Mr. E. sighs, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. puts the box on the table, wipes his brow, and sits on the floor.
MR. E: Phew!
[Upbeat music plays]
ELLIE: Then, my family packs the barrel full of things that are hard to find here in the Treeborhood, fruits like ackee and soursop, and my favourite hot pepper sauce.
MR. E: Oh, boy.
[The music stops]
ELLIE: Mr. E, can I get you a refreshing glass of water?
[Mr. E. groans]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. nods.
ELLIE: And could I ask you three a teensy-weensy favour?
ZADIE: Yes, Ellie.
ELLIE: Actually, it's more of a medium-sized favour. Would you pack the presents into the barrel for me? I have to get started on Nani's birthday cake – her favourite cocoa yummy grater cake.
DESCRIPTION: Ellie carries Mr. E. on her back.
ZEKE: We love packing stuff!
[Upbeat music plays, Mr. E. slurps, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Malik and Zadie nod. Ellie carries Mr. E. up the ladder and puts him on a dining room chair. She puts a straw into his mouth, he drinks from a cup, and then hops to his feet.
MR. E.: Now, that hit the spot! Now, let's get crackin' on that cake!
[Upbeat music continues, jump boings, slide whistle, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Downstairs, Zeke throws a box of crackers into the barrel.
ZEKE: In go the crackers!
MALIK: In goes the bag of baseballs!
[Slide whistle, crunch, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Malik drops a bag of baseballs into the barrel and then winces. His eyes widen.
MALIK: That was not a good sound.
ZADIE: That was a... "we just crunched the crackers" sound.
[Box rustles, sad music notes play, coconut rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie takes the crushed cracker box out of the barrel. In the kitchen, Ellie stirs liquid in a saucepan. At the table, Mr. E. smiles and shakes coconut into a bowl. Ellie walks to the table and pours the contents of the pan into the bowl.
ELLIE: Not quite so energetic with the coconut, Mr. E.
WOMBATS SHOUT: Ellie!
DESCRIPTION: Malik climbs the pole into the kitchen.
MALIK: We smushed some of the crackers. The baseballs were too heavy.
ELLIE: Oh!
[Box rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie puts the saucepan on the table and follows Malik. Downstairs, she takes the crackers from Zadie.
MALIK: Sorry, Ellie.
ELLIE: No worries. Who wants to eat crackers when you can make music with them?
[Cheerful tropical music plays, crackers rustle, Ellie laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie shakes the crushed box and dances.
ELLIE: Keep on packing, kids. I know you'll make sure the rest of the crackers stay safe.
[Electronic whirring]
DESCRIPTION: The wombats nod. Ellie startles and runs to the ladder.
MR. E: Whoa! Whoa!
[Exciting music plays, Mr. E. yelps, batter squelches, slide whistle, button clicks]
DESCRIPTION: At the table, Mr. E. holds a mixer and spins in circles above the bowl. The bowl tips over and falls onto his head. Ellie catches the mixer and pushes a button.
ELLIE: How about you read me the recipe, while I do the cooking?
[Slide whistle, bowl thumps, paper rustles, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. sits up, and the bowl falls off his head. He picks up the recipe.
MR. E: I am on it! Next step, pour batter into pan.
[Batter rustles, soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: The batter falls onto the table, and Mr. E. smiles. Downstairs, Malik rubs his chin and looks at the barrel.
MALIK: I'm thinking...
ZADIE: I knew it! You're wearing your thinking face!
MALIK: That we should put the heavy presents on the bottom.
ZADIE: Right, so they don't crush the lighter stuff.
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke pokes his head out of the barrel.
ZEKE: But how do we know which presents are heavy and which ones are light?
MALIK: We can weigh them with my arms. They're really good at weighing stuff. Try me.
[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie puts the stack of crackers on Malik’s hand and puts the stack of pants on the other hand.
MALIK: The sparkle pants are heavier than the crackers.
[Ding, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke and Zadie carry the crackers and pants away.
ZADIE: Let's put everything in order from heaviest to lightest. Heavy stuff near the barrel because they go in first, and light stuff over here.
[Bag rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke drags the bag of baseballs towards the barrel.
ZEKE: The baseballs are super heavy.
ZADIE: So they go on the heavy end.
ZEKE: Are the baseballs heavier than the jam?
ZADIE: I think so, but let's weigh them to be sure.
[Bag rustles, Zadie grunts, Zeke grunts, jars clink, slide whistle, box thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie drags the balls to Malik. She and Zeke carry the box of jars and put it in Malik’s other hand. He clenches his teeth and puts the jam jar box down.
MALIK: Whoa! The jam is way heavier!
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Zeke carry the jam jar box closer to the barrel.
[Light music plays]
MALIK: Now, we compare baseballs to comics.
[Comics rustle, slide whistle, balls thud]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke puts a stack of comics on Malik’s hand. The hand holding the bag of baseballs drops, and he lifts the comic books.
MALIK: Baseballs are definitely heavier than comic books.
[Bag rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie drags the baseball bag and puts it behind the jam jar box.
ZADIE: Next up, comic books versus sparkle pants!
MALIK: Hmm, close.
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke brings Malik the stack of pants, and he lifts them up and down, holding the comic books on his other hand.
MALIK: But the comic books are heavier.
ZADIE: So, the comic books go in the middle because they're heavier than sparkle pants, but lighter than baseballs or jam.
DESCRIPTION: Zeke puts the sparkle pants between the crackers and the comic books.
ZEKE: And we already know sparkle pants are heavier than crackers. So, that's the final order.
[Whoosh, dings]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke runs to the box of jam jars, then walks along the row of items.
ZEKE: Jam is the heaviest, then baseballs, comics, sparkle pants, and crackers are the lightest.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Malik jumps with his arms in the air.
MALIK: Yay for my arms! Let's get packing!
[Thud]
DESCRIPTION: Malik and Zadie drop the box of jam jars into the barrel.
ZADIE: The jam goes in first because it's the heaviest. Baseballs next because they're lighter than the jam.
[Bag rustles, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Zeke drags the bag of baseballs to Malik, who drops it into the barrel. Zeke gives him the comic books, and he places them in the barrel.
ZADIE: Then, the comics because they're lighter than the baseballs.
DESCRIPTION: Zadie gives Zeke the pants, and he gives them to Malik. Malik puts them in the barrel.
ZADIE: And then, the sparkle pants.
[Phone vibrates, rings]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Ellie ices the cake as Mr. E. watches. She runs to the table and picks up her smartphone. Her Nani appears on the screen, and Ellie waves.
ELLIE: Nani! How are you?
ELLIE’S NANI: Mi deh yah, yuh know.
ELLIE: Zadie, Zeke, Malik, come say hi to Nani.
[Light music plays, boxes rustle, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Downstairs, Malik and Zeke run towards the ladder, smiling. Zadie puts the cracker boxes on top of the pants.
ZADIE: And the lightest thing goes on top - the crackers. Coming!
DESCRIPTION: She climbs the ladder to the kitchen and walks to Ellie.
ELLIE: And this is my other dear friend from the Treeborhood - Zadie.
ZADIE: Hello, Nani. Happy birthday. I wish we could come to your party.
ELLIE’S NANI: I wish you could, too.
[Nani giggles]
ELLIE’S NANI: When are you leaving, me love?
[Upbeat music plays]
ELLIE: In a little bit, soon as your grater cake is cooled. I made a big one!
ELLIE’S NANI: Oh, my favourite! Thank you, sweetheart!
MR. E.: I read her the recipe!
[Paper rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. waves the recipe.
ELLIE’S NANI: Then, thank you, too! Ellie, I wanted to mention that cousin Ava's knee is acting up.
MR. E. WHISPERS: We'll give you some privacy.
ELLIE’S NANI: Uncle Winston took her dancing...
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. leads the wombats to the ladder.
ELLIE: I can't wait to be home and be staying with you, my Nani.
DESCRIPTION: Zeke stops walking.
ZEKE: What? Ellie's staying?
[Pop, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Malik covers Zeke’s mouth, then holds his finger to his lips.
MALIK: Shh!
ZEKE: She's staying in Jamaica? She's not coming back to the Treeborhood?
[Soft music plays, slide whistle, door opens, footsteps rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. leads Zadie and Malik outside.
MALIK: Aah! That's not possible. Is it?
[Sad music plays]
MR. E.: No! Surely, she would tell her best friend - me - if she wasn't coming home, surely. Unless she didn't want to upset me.
[He sniffles]
MR. E.: I don't know why she thinks I'd be upset.
[He sobs]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. falls to his knees on the grass.
MR. E.: I won't have it, I tell you! I will make a Treeborhood rule that Ellie must come back
MALIK: Can you do that?
MR. E.: Uh... no.
ZADIE: Where'd Zeke go?
[Light music plays, door squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Everyone runs back inside, where Zeke sits in the barrel.
ZADIE: What are you doing?
ZEKE: If Ellie's not coming back, then I'm going with her.
[Thump]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie picks Zeke up and carries him away from the barrel.
ZEKE: No, I have to go! Otherwise, my heart will hurt.
ZADIE: Listen, Zeke, I have an idea, all thanks to you. We can't stop Ellie from going...
[Mr. E. sobs]
ZADIE: And we can't go with her, but we can make her want to come back...
[Mr. E. sobs, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie rolls to the barrel.
ZADIE: By putting things in the barrel, remember things that show how much we love her.
MALIK: Yeah, and when she finds them, she'll miss us so much, she'll come home right away.
MR. E.: Hot potato! That's a great idea!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Malik takes a box of crackers out of the barrel.
MALIK: Since the barrel's already packed, the remember things have to go on top, which means they have to be lighter than the crackers, okay?
[Rustle, bang]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie takes out two boxes and gives Zeke one. Mr. E. takes out another box.
ZADIE: Let's each take a box of crackers, so we can make sure our stuff is lighter. Ready? Go!
[Upbeat music plays, slide whistles, rock clatters]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie holds the crackers and a small blue box. Malik holds a box of cookies, which he lowers. Zeke throws a rock away. He picks up Snout, hugs him, and then weighs him against the cracker box. In the Everything Emporium, Mr. E. leaves a photobooth.
MR. E.: Ahh! No, I blinked! Ahh!
[Machine whirrs]
DESCRIPTION: A photo strip prints, and he picks it up.
MR. E.: Calm down, machine! Done!
[Lid clatters, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In Ellie’s house, Malik puts the lid on the barrel.
MALIK: All our remembered things are lighter than the crackers, and they are all packed in the barrel.
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie carries the barrel into the basket beneath a hot air balloon and waves. Mr. E., Malik, Zadie, and Zeke watch her.
ELLIE: Goodbye. Farewell. Inna tomorrows!
[Sad music plays]
ALL: Bye, Ellie.
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. releases a rope, and the hot air balloon rises.
ZEKE: Wait! No! Stop!
[Jump boings, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. leaps and grabs the rope, and the hot air balloon lowers to the ground.
ELLIE: My goodness! Whatever is the matter, Zeke?
ZEKE: Snout's in the barrel. I thought I could let him go with you, but I can't.
[Lid thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie lifts the lid and picks up Snout.
ELLIE: How'd Snout get in here?
ZADIE: Zeke put him in there, so you'd come back to us. Also, there's a necklace. I made it for you. It has a locket.
[Music notes chime]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie opens the locket and discovers a photo of her and Zadie. She hugs the locket.
MALIK: And I made you a card, a special card.
[Card rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie picks up a card depicting Malik holding a heart-shaped balloon.
MR. E.: And I have gifted you with several photographs.
DESCRIPTION: Ellie looks at the photos.
ELLIE: I love these. Thank you. But why the presents?
MALIK: Because we need you to remember us.
ZADIE: And know we love you.
ZEKE: So, you'll come back to the Treeborhood.
ELLIE: Of course I'm coming back. Why wouldn't I?
ZEKE: Because you told Nani you were staying. We heard you.
[Light music plays]
ELLIE: I'm staying with her, yes, but only for a week, and then I'm coming home to the Treeborhood.
MR. E.: Really?
ELLIE: Really. Listen, Jamaica fills me with joy because I get to see my family and friends.
ZADIE: That's the problem: Jamaica sounds funner than us.
ELLIE: Ah, but what is extra wonderful is that I can bring that joy back to my now home, which is here with you.
[Mr. E. chuckles]
ELLIE: You need Snout back.
[Rustle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie picks up Snout.
ZEKE: And I think I need a hug.
[Lid thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie picks up Zeke and hugs him. She gives him Snout and puts him back on the ground. Ellie puts the lid on the barrel.
ELLIE: I will treasure all these lovely presents. Farewell, friends.
[Rope creaks, music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie waves, and the hot air balloon rises until it hits the end of the rope Mr. E. holds.
ELLIE: The rope, you need to let go of the rope.
MR. E.: Oh. My bad.
DESCRIPTION: Mr. E. lets go of the rope.
MR. E.: Goodbye, Ellie.
[Upbeat music plays]
WOMBATS: Bye, Ellie!
DESCRIPTION: Ellie waves, and the hot air balloon floats into the sky.
ELLIE: I'll be back with you soon.
[Light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: By her house, Mrs. Fishman floats beside a speaker. Ellie stands beside a speaker in a room.
MRS. FISHMAN: Thank you so much for babysitting, Ellie! How are my little fishes doing?
ELLIE: The kids are doing just fine, Mrs. Fishman. I'll see you soon!
[Babies cry]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie ends the call and turns to a fishbowl stroller where Frannie, Flip, and Finn sob.
ELLIE SINGS: Don't cry, little fishes. What are your wishes? I can get anything you need in a jiffy. Would you like a snack?
DESCRIPTION: Ellie dangles a cookie at the top of the water, and the Fishman babies turn away.
BACKUP SINGERS: Snack, snack.
ELLIE SINGS: Try some of this or that?
[Babies cry]
BACKUP SINGERS: That, that.
ELLIE SINGS: I didn't expect you'd still be upset. What's causing these tears? What should I try next? Would you like toys?
BACKUP SINGERS: Toys, toys.
[Rattling, duck squeaks, babies cry]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie shakes a rattle and squeezes a rubber duck. The babies turn away.
ELLIE SINGS: That make noise?
BACKUP SINGERS: Noise, noise.
DESCRIPTION: Ellie gently moves the stroller back and forth.
ELLIE SINGS: I didn't expect you'd still be upset. What's causing these tears? What should I try next? I need to think.
BACKUP SINGERS: Think, think.
ELLIE SINGS: How to stop your tears.
BACKUP SINGERS: Tears, tears.
DESCRIPTION: The babies fall asleep, and Ellie wraps a blanket around the bottom of the fishbowl.
ELLIE SINGS: Now, I understand why you were upset. What was causing those tears? What you needed was rest. Turns out the cause.
BACKUP SINGERS: Cause, cause.
ELLIE SINGS: Was needed sleep.
BACKUP SINGERS: Sleep, sleep.
ELLIE SINGS: The effect.
BACKUP SINGERS: Effect, effect.
ELLIE SINGS: Is you stopped your crying.
BACKUP SINGERS: Crying, crying.
[Ellie yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Ellie stretches. She picks up a blanket and lies on the floor with a pillow.

ELLIE SINGS: For a little nap.

[Light music plays]

[Beanbag chair rustles, boing]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie throws herself back onto a beanbag chair.
ZADIE: But why?! It’s just gonna get messy again.
SUPER: If you don't clean up, you won't be able to find the toys you want to play with.
ZADIE: But I don't want to clean up. That's not fun at all.
SUPER: Think of all the fun you'll have once Buckley's here.
ZADIE: Like what?
SUPER: Well, if you clean up for Buckley, then after he gets here, I could make you both a very special breakfast.
ZADIE: Deal.
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Super shake hands.
SUPER: Deal. I'll go get started.
[Cheerful music plays, rustling]

BUCKLEY: Wow! Cool room! And it's so neat!

[Whoosh, Buckley giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie puts a party hat on Buckley’s head, and he shakes his head.
BUCKLEY: Nope, it's not my birthday.
ZADIE: Hmm...And I don't have an ouchie. Do you, Buckley?
BUCKLEY: Nope, no ouchie.
ZADIE: If it's not your birthday, and if we don't have ouchies, then why do we get special pancakes?
[Plate clunks]
DESCRIPTION: Super puts a plate with a bowl of blueberries and a jug of syrup on the table.
SUPER: It's so nice to have you over, Buckley.
ZADIE: Oh, I know. Because you came over to play, we get to have special pancakes.
[Tail thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley eats the pancakes and hits his tail against the table.
BUCKLEY: These... are... the best pancakes - mmm - I've ever had!
ZADIE: How about you come over, like, every day?
BUCKLEY: If we get super special pancakes, then sure, I'll come over all the time!
[Hands and tail slap, fists bump]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley and Zadie high-five. She high-fives his tail, and they bump their fists.
BOTH: Deal!
[Both munch]
DESCRIPTION: They smile and eat their pancakes.
ZADIE: Mmm.
BUCKLEY: Mmm...
ZADIE: So, what do you want to do now?
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley looks through a window at two easels with pads of paper and buckets of yellow, red, and blue paint.
BUCKLEY: Can we paint? I love painting!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie looks out the window.
ZADIE: Totally! Let's go!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: They stand by the easels. Buckley picks up the yellow paint and paints.
BUCKLEY: I know exactly what I'm going to paint. It's going to be amazing!
ZADIE: Hmm...What should I paint? A purple cucumber? No. A teeny-tiny castle for fairies? No.
[Slide whistle, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie imagines three pink unicorns bouncing on the yellow moon.
ZADIE: I want to paint a big yellow moon with moon unicorns bouncing on it. Ooh!
[Paint splats]
DESCRIPTION: Yellow paint splashes on Zadie.
ZADIE: Ah, Buckley! You're splattering paint everywhere, and it's making a mess!
BUCKLEY: Oops! Sorry. I get excited when I paint.
[Bucket rattles, Zadie gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley gives Zadie the yellow paint bucket.
ZADIE: It's empty, Buckley! Because you used all the yellow, now I can't paint my big yellow moon.
DESCRIPTION: Buckley’s painting features three smiling bananas dancing on a field of daisies beneath the smiling sun.
BUCKLEY: I'm sorry, but I needed it for my bananas dancing around -daisies painting. You like it?
[Bucket clanks, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie puts the bucket down.
ZADIE: Yeah, I really do. You're a great painter, Buckley.
DESCRIPTION: Buckley points at the yellow paint splatters on Zadie’s paper.
BUCKLEY: Thanks. Hey, you could turn the yellow paint splatters into a bunch of tiny little stars, and, uh, the moon unicorns could bounce from star to star.
ZADIE: Hmm...that might just work.
[Brush scrapes, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie paints yellow unicorns jumping on stars.
ZADIE: I love it. Thanks, Buckley. If you hadn't splattered my painting, then I wouldn't have been able to make these beautiful stars.
[Surprised music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Super arrives carrying a watering can.
SUPER: What in the world happened out here? Why don't you two wash off?
ZADIE: But I don't want to take a bath now. I'm having too much fun.
SUPER: Who said anything about a bath? I have a better way for you to get clean.
[Sprinkler sprays]
DESCRIPTION: On the ground in front of the tree, Super, Zadie, and Buckley look at a sprinkler.
ZADIE: If we run through the sprinkler, then we can wash off the paint.
BUCKLEY: Oh, yeah!
SUPER: And if you use the sprinkler, then I won't have to water the plants.
[Super chuckles]
DESCRIPTION: Super carries her watering can away.
BUCKLEY: Come on, Zadie. Race ya!
[They laugh, water sprays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Buckley run through the sprinkler water.
ZADIE: Whoo! Yeah!
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Buckley dry off in the bedroom. Buckley gives Zadie his towel.
ZADIE: I'll go hang these in the bathroom.
[Upbeat music plays, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie carries the towels away. Buckley runs to a desk and looks at Zadie, Super, and Mr. E. finger puppets. Zadie enters the room.
ZADIE: Huh?
BUCKLEY: Ooh, can I play with your finger puppets? I love puppets.
[Light music plays]
ZADIE: Well... they're really, really special. But since we're having a play date, I'll share them with you.
DESCRIPTION: Buckley wears the Mr. E. finger puppet on one hand and the Zadie finger puppet on the other. Zadie watches with wide eyes.
BUCKLEY: I'm Super Acorn! And you're Acorn Girl. There, in the sky, it's the Super Acorn signal. We're off to rescue Acorn Baby!
[Zadie gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley runs across the room.
ZADIE: Stop, Buckley! You're playing too rough!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The Zadie finger puppet falls apart.
BUCKLEY: Uh-oh.
ZADIE SHOUTS: You played too rough, and you made my puppet break! Why'd you do that?
BUCKLEY: I was just-- I'm sorry! I...
[Buckley sobs]
DESCRIPTION: Super enters the house, and Buckley runs outside past her.
SUPER: Buckley?
[Slide whistle, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Super runs to Zadie’s room. Inside, Zadie sits on the floor. She throws the pieces of the Zadie finger puppet down and crosses her arms.
ZADIE: Grr.
SUPER: What happened, squish? Buckley just bolted out of here, crying.
ZADIE: I'm mad. He broke my toy, so I yelled at him.
DESCRIPTION: Super sits beside Zadie.
SUPER: Zadie, I understand why you're mad. He broke something you made, something that was really special. I'd be mad, too. But the things we say affect other people. When you yelled at Buckley, that made him sad.
ZADIE: I don't want Buckley to be sad. What do I say to him now?
SUPER: How about you find him and ask him what you can do to make him feel better?
ZADIE: Then you might feel better, too.
ZADIE: Okay, I'll go find Buckley.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie runs to the living room.
ZADIE: Buckley, where are you?
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie rolls outside.
ZADIE SHOUTS: Buckley!
[Soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley’s purple tail hangs over the edge of a knothole.
BUCKLEY: I'm not in this knothole! But if I were in here, I'd say I'm really sorry I broke your puppet. It was an accident. I didn't mean to.
ZADIE: I know. And I'm really sorry I yelled at you. What can we do to make us both feel better?
BUCKLEY: What if we found something fun to play together?
[Wind whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: The wind blows an orange leaf over Zadie’s head.
ZADIE: Whoa! Look at that leaf spin! I wonder how long it will do that.
BUCKLEY: I don't know. Maybe forever? Let's follow the leaf to see how long it stays in the air.
ZADIE: And the leaf is on the move!
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie chases the leaf. Buckley leaps out of the knothole and follows her.
ZADIE: Around and around it goes. Where it stops, nobody knows!
[Door slams]
DESCRIPTION: The leaf blows into a gondola, and the children follow it. Buckley closes the door, and the gondola moves along a rope. Inside, they sit on a bench.
BUCKLEY: Don't let it fall!
[Both blow, wind gusts, broom scrapes]
DESCRIPTION: They both blow the leaf up into the air. The gondola arrives at a platform, and Zadie opens the door. The leaf blows in the wind, and they follow it. At the Everything Emporium, Mr. E. sweeps the front stoop. Zadie takes out her microphone and holds it towards Buckley.
ZADIE: Have you ever seen anything like this in your entire leaf-chasing career?
BUCKLEY: No, I have not!
ZADIE: Ooh...
[Buckley giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Buckley run and stop near a greenhouse. The orange leaf lands on Buckley’s head.
ZADIE: Huh. Where's the leaf?
BUCKLEY: I don't know.
[Slide whistle, both laugh, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: The leaf falls onto Buckley’s nose. He and Zadie fall on the grass, laughing.
BUCKLEY: I feel all better. Do you?
[Zadie chuckles]
ZADIE: Yeah. Hey, now, do you want to do...
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie speaks into her microphone.
ZADIE: Zadie's Extreme Obstacle Challenge?!
BUCKLEY: Yeah!
DESCRIPTION: In the bedroom, Zadie and Buckley wait in a crouch start near the stuffed animals.
ZADIE: Ready?
BUCKLEY: Ready!
[Whistle blares, upbeat music plays, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: They run and hop into the hoops on the floor.
ZADIE: And they're off! Zadie takes the lead!
[Slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Buckley hurls pillows at Zadie as she walks on the blue foam pool noodle.
BUCKLEY: But what's this, Buckley's hurling pillows! Look out, Zadie!
[Thump]
DESCRIPTION Zadie falls, and Buckley runs across the pool noodle.
ZADIE: Wah! Buckley takes the lead, but Zadie has not given up!
DESCRIPTION: They hop over the row of pool noodles, with Zadie leading.
ZADIE: Now, Zadie takes the lead!
[Rustle, tense music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie crawls through the rainbow tunnel with Buckley right behind her. They hop on the pillows over the blue paper.
ZADIE: So close! Who will win the race?
DESCRIPTION: They run to the finish line.
BOTH: It's a tie!
[Upbeat music plays, hands thump]
DESCRIPTION: They bump fists, and Zadie high-fives Buckley’s tail.
BOTH: Yeah!
[Super knocks, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Beatrice and Super stand at the open bedroom door.
BEATRICE: Hey, kids, how was your play date?
DESCRIPTION: Buckley and Zadie glance at each other and smile.
BUCKLEY: Oh, it was awful.
ZADIE: The worst.
DESCRIPTION: Beatrice and Super glance at each other.
BOTH: Just kidding.
[Children giggle]
BUCKLEY: I wish I could have play dates with Zadie every day. I had so much fun.
[Slide whistle, munching, water sprays, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a flashback, Zadie remembers eating pancakes with Buckley, painting on the easels, running through the sprinkler, and chasing the leaf along a pathway.
ZADIE: Because Buckley came over, we got to eat super special pancakes, paint tiny yellow stars, go through the sprinkler, chase a leaf...
DESCRIPTION: The flashback disappears. In the bedroom, Zadie stands beside Buckley.
[Upbeat music plays]
BUCKLEY: And run through Zadie's Extreme Obstacle Challenge!
BEATRICE: This obstacle course reminds me of the ones we used to make, Super. Oh, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Ooh!
SUPER: Let's run it, for old time's sake.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Buckley hold microphones and sit behind the stuffed animals.
ZADIE: Grandma Super and Beatrice take their marks.
BUCKLEY: Who will win? Let's find out. Ready, set...
[Whistle blares]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie blows her whistle.
BUCKLEY: Go!
[Upbeat music plays]
SUPER: Whoopee!
DESCRIPTION: Super and Beatrice run forward.
[They laugh]

Yeah!
Title: Work It Out Wombats.
Episode title: Ellie’s Island.

[Opening Credits] Written by Kathy Waugh. Story by Tymika Tafari, Kathy Waugh, and Kimberly Wright. Directed by Jeff Barker, Andrea Gerstmann. Song by Pierce Freelon.
ZEKE: "Ellie's Island."
[Energetic music plays, feet skid]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie runs up a tree limb and stops.
ZADIE SINGSONGS: You can't catch me! No one can catch me!
ZADIE: Huh?
[Slide whistle, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Malik drops down behind Zadie and tags her.
MALIK: Ha! Gotcha! You're it!
DESCRIPTION: Zadie points.

[Lid thumps]

BACKUP SINGERS: Tears, tears.
DESCRIPTION: The babies fall asleep, and Ellie wraps a blanket around the bottom of the fishbowl.

ELLIE SINGS: Was needed sleep.
BACKUP SINGERS: Sleep, sleep.
ELLIE SINGS: The effect.
BACKUP SINGERS: Effect, effect.
ELLIE SINGS: Is you stopped your crying.
BACKUP SINGERS: Crying, crying.
[Ellie yawns]

ELLIE SINGS: For a little nap.

ZADIE: Extreme Obstacle Challenge record!
[Light music plays]

[Slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie picks up the stuffed animals and throws them into a row by the hammock pole. She dances.

BUCKLEY: Wow! Cool room! And it's so neat!

SUPER: Who wants pancakes?
BOTH: Me, me, me, me, me, me, me!

SUPER: Here are my extra special blueberry chocolate chippy pancakes with smiley face whipped cream on top.
[Super chuckles, soft music plays]
ZADIE: No way! We only get these pancakes if it's someone's birthday or a holiday, or a day when we get a big ouchie. It must be your birthday, Buckley.

[Slide whistle]

BUCKLEY: Come on, Zadie. Race ya!
[They laugh, water sprays]
DESCRIPTION: Zadie and Buckley run through the sprinkler water.
