DESCRIPTION: Stars sparkle in the night sky.
GRAN GRAN NARRATING: It was a cold winter evening. The trees were bare, the air was frosty, and JoJo and Gran Gran, that's me, were getting ready for a sleepover.
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s house, Jojo sits on the sitting room couch in her pyjamas. Jojo looks at shows on a streaming service on the T.V. with the Panda and the T.V. remote at her side.
[JoJo humming]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran walks across the room.
GRAN GRAN: Have you chosen one for us to watch yet, JoJo?
JOJO: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo clicks through episodes of a show featuring a young black-haired girl wearing a pirate hat and an eyepatch.
JOJO: This one! "Captain Chloe Goes Under the Sea."

DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran walks back across the sitting room. Jojo hops off the couch with Panda and starts to follow. The lights and T.V. turn off, and they stop.
JOJO AND GRAN GRAN: Oh!
JOJO: Could you turn the lights back on, please, Gran Gran?
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran flips the light switch on and off.
[Light switch clicking]
DESCRIPTION: The lights and T.V. remain off.
JOJO: Why isn't it working?
GRAN GRAN: I think it might be a power cut, JoJo.
JOJO: A power cut?
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran walks over to Jojo.
GRAN GRAN: Power cuts are when the electricity goes off, and everything connected to it turns off, too. That's why the lights have gone out.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran kneels beside Jojo. Jojo frowns and looks at Panda.
JOJO: Panda's never seen a power cut before.
GRAN GRAN: They don't happen often, and they're nothing to worry about. But when they do happen, it's good to be prepared.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran opens the cupboard under the T.V. and takes out two flashlights.
GRAN GRAN: Ah-hah! These are what we need. Torches!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran turns on the flashlights, also known as torches, and hands one to Jojo.
[Jojo giggling]

BROWN-HAIRED BOY: Wind turbines get electricity for us, as well.
GIRL WITH TIGHTLY BRAIDED HAIR: I've seen wind turbines on hills when I'm in my car, and they spin, like a fan.
BROWN-HAIRED BOY AND GIRL: Round and round and round and round and round and round...
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s house, Jojo and Gran Gran walk to the front door with their flashlights. Gran Gran opens the door to Cynthia, who wears her winter coat and holds a flashlight.
JOJO: Hello, Cynthia!
CYNTHIA: Hi, JoJo! Hello, Gran Gran. Has your electricity gone off?
JOJO: It has!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia steps inside.
CYNTHIA: I've had a power cut, too. Good job I had my torch with me. I wanted to come over and check everything is okay.
GRAN GRAN: Oh, thanks, Cynthia.
JOJO: Can we still have cocoa tea and watch the Captain Chloe film?
GRAN GRAN: Well, electricity powers the kettle and the T.V., so I don't think we can.
JOJO: Aww.
CYNTHIA: Hmm. We might not be able to make cocoa tea with electricity, but I know a way to make it without! Follow me to my garden!
[Jojo squealing]
DESCRIPTION: In Cynthia’s backyard, Jojo and Gran Gran wear their winter coats and scarves. Cynthia and Gran Gran kneel on opposite sides of a small stove with their flashlights. Steam wafts from a pot on the stove. Jojo stands on the stone pathway with Panda and her flashlight.
CYNTHIA: This is my camping stove! This stove uses gas, so it can heat up the cocoa tea without electricity.
GRAN GRAN: Perfect.
[Jojo giggling]
JOJO: Yay!
GRAN GRAN: Oh, it's ready.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran takes the pot off the camping stove and pours cocoa tea into a set of red mugs and a small mug with a pirate ship logo.
GRAN GRAN: Ah, there we go. Three cups of lovely cocoa tea.
CYNTHIA: Oh, thanks, Gran Gran.
JOJO: Let's put marshmallows on top!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo grabs a bag of marshmallows.
JOJO: One cup. Two cups. Three cups!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo drops marshmallows in each of the mugs.
GRAN GRAN: Ooh, lovely.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia grab their mugs and sip their tea. Jojo’s flashlight lies on the ground. The light points at Panda and the back fence.
JOJO: Mmm. This is so delicious. But I wish we could still watch a Captain Chloe film.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo glances at Panda.
[Jojo gasping]
JOJO: Look at Panda's shadow on the wall.
[Gran Gran chuckling]
GRAN GRAN: Panda looks ever so big.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran looks at Panda’s shadow on the fence.
GRAN GRAN: Oh! You've given me an idea for a Gran Gran plan!
[Celebratory music plays]
GRAN GRAN: Well, we might not be able to watch "Captain Chloe Goes Under the Sea," but we can create our own story, with shadow puppets!
JOJO: Yes!
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In Gran Gran’s sitting room, Cynthia closes the curtains. Jojo sits on the couch with Panda and her flashlight aimed at the curtains.
JOJO: How do we make our shadow puppets, Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: I'll show you!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran rests a flashlight against a book at an angle on the coffee table.
GRAN GRAN: We can make all kinds of shapes using our hands.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran waves her hand in front of the flashlight, and her shadow appears on the curtains.
[JoJo giggling]
[Cynthia giggling]
CYNTHIA: Look, JoJo. See if you can guess the animal.
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a shadow puppet with her hands.
JOJO: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia spreads her fingers, then opens and closes her index and middle fingers.
[Jojo gasping]
JOJO: It's a crab!
CYNTHIA: Yay!
GRAN GRAN: This crab is on its way to meet Captain Chloe.
JOJO: Your turn, Gran Gran.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a shadow puppet with her hands.
JOJO: It's a turtle!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a treasure chest shadow puppet.
JOJO: Guarding the treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran and Cynthia smile and lower their hands.
JOJO: My turn now.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo puts Panda on the floor. She looks at her hands and frowns.
JOJO: Um... What do I do?
GRAN GRAN: Well, you need to put your hands out.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran holds out her hands with their palms facing down. Jojo copies Gran Gran’s moves.
JOJO: Hands out.
GRAN GRAN: Then cross your thumbs over.
JOJO: Cross my thumbs.
GRAN GRAN: Then we flap our fingers.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo and Gran Gran cross their thumbs and flap their fingers like wings.
[Jojo and Gran Gran laughing]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo climbs up a small stool and recreates the shadow puppet in the light of the flashlight.
JOJO: It's a bird!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a bird shadow puppet.
JOJO: And another!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a bird shadow puppet.
JOJO: And another!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia flap their fingers and the wings of their bird shadow puppets flap.
[Jojo giggling]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia lower their hands.
JOJO: Can we make a Captain Chloe?
[Gran Gran chuckling]
GRAN GRAN: That might be a bit tricky with our hands. But I know another way we could do it!
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At the kitchen table, Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia draw on pieces of coloured paper in the light of their flashlights. Cynthia draws a pirate ship, then cuts the ship out of the paper and holds it up on a craft stick. Gran Gran cuts out a fish, then holds it up on another craft stick. Jojo cuts out a paper Captain Chloe. She holds the cutout up on a craft stick and smiles. On the sitting room coffee table, Jojo places Panda and t-rex Hugo on either side of the flashlight.
[Hugo squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo and Cynthia hold the pirate ship and Captain Chloe cutouts in front of the light. Gran Gran makes a shadow puppet bird.
JOJO: Captain Chloe is on an adventure to find treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo holds up her shadow puppet, so it looks like Captain Chloe is standing on the pirate ship. Under the ship, Gran Gran’s fish cutout moves about.
JOJO: She jumped into the sea and swam underwater with the fish!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo moves Captain Chloe under the ship. Cynthia makes a crab shadow puppet with her hands.
CYNTHIA: A helpful crab showed her the way.
[JoJo giggling]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a turtle shadow puppet with her hands. Cynthia makes a treasure chest shadow puppet with her hands.
[Gran Gran gasping]
GRAN GRAN: A turtle was guarding the treasure!
JOJO: But it was friendly and shared it with Captain Chloe.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo holds Captain Chloe between the pirate and treasure chest shadow puppets. Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia lower their hands.
JOJO, GRAN GRAN AND CYNTHIA: Yay!
JOJO: Captain Chloe found the treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Panda’s head tips forward.

TILLY: I'm going to get you!
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: No, I'm too little! You should wait for a bigger goat.
TILLY: Okay.
DESCRIPTION: Tilly lowers the troll shadow puppet, and the short-haired boy crosses the bridge with the Small Gruff shadow puppet.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: So the troll waited for Big Gruff to cross the bridge.

SHORT-HAIRED BOY: No, I'm still too little! You should wait for an even bigger goat.

[Tilly shouting]
TILLY: I'm going to get you!
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: Oh no, you're not!
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy moves the Really Big Gruff shadow puppet across the stage, and Tilly pulls the troll shadow puppet away.
[Tilly shouting]
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: And chased him away.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy holds the Small Gruff, Big Gruff and Really Big Gruff goat shadow puppets in place on the other side of the bridge.

JOJO AND GRAN GRAN: Oh!
JOJO: Could you turn the lights back on, please, Gran Gran?
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran flips the light switch on and off.
[Light switch clicking]
DESCRIPTION: The lights and T.V. remain off.
JOJO: Why isn't it working?
GRAN GRAN: I think it might be a power cut, JoJo.
JOJO: A power cut?
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran walks over to Jojo.
GRAN GRAN: Power cuts are when the electricity goes off, and everything connected to it turns off, too. That's why the lights have gone out.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran kneels beside Jojo. Jojo frowns and looks at Panda.
JOJO: Panda's never seen a power cut before.
GRAN GRAN: They don't happen often, and they're nothing to worry about. But when they do happen, it's good to be prepared.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran opens the cupboard under the T.V. and takes out two flashlights.
GRAN GRAN: Ah-hah! These are what we need. Torches!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran turns on the flashlights, also known as torches, and hands one to Jojo.
[Jojo giggling]
[Gran Gran chuckling]
[Whooshing]
[Cheerful music plays]

BROWN-HAIRED GIRL: All the way to our homes.

DESCRIPTION: The long-haired girl shrugs.
BLOND-HAIRED BOY: To save electricity, we turn off lights. We keep… keep our ovens off, we close our fridges.
BROWN-HAIRED BOY: Wind turbines get electricity for us, as well.
GIRL WITH TIGHTLY BRAIDED HAIR: I've seen wind turbines on hills when I'm in my car, and they spin, like a fan.
BROWN-HAIRED BOY AND GIRL: Round and round and round and round and round and round...
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s house, Jojo and Gran Gran walk to the front door with their flashlights. Gran Gran opens the door to Cynthia, who wears her winter coat and holds a flashlight.
JOJO: Hello, Cynthia!
CYNTHIA: Hi, JoJo! Hello, Gran Gran. Has your electricity gone off?
JOJO: It has!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia steps inside.
CYNTHIA: I've had a power cut, too. Good job I had my torch with me. I wanted to come over and check everything is okay.
GRAN GRAN: Oh, thanks, Cynthia.
JOJO: Can we still have cocoa tea and watch the Captain Chloe film?
GRAN GRAN: Well, electricity powers the kettle and the T.V., so I don't think we can.
JOJO: Aww.
CYNTHIA: Hmm. We might not be able to make cocoa tea with electricity, but I know a way to make it without! Follow me to my garden!
[Jojo squealing]
DESCRIPTION: In Cynthia’s backyard, Jojo and Gran Gran wear their winter coats and scarves. Cynthia and Gran Gran kneel on opposite sides of a small stove with their flashlights. Steam wafts from a pot on the stove. Jojo stands on the stone pathway with Panda and her flashlight.
CYNTHIA: This is my camping stove! This stove uses gas, so it can heat up the cocoa tea without electricity.
GRAN GRAN: Perfect.
[Jojo giggling]
JOJO: Yay!
GRAN GRAN: Oh, it's ready.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran takes the pot off the camping stove and pours cocoa tea into a set of red mugs and a small mug with a pirate ship logo.
GRAN GRAN: Ah, there we go. Three cups of lovely cocoa tea.
CYNTHIA: Oh, thanks, Gran Gran.
JOJO: Let's put marshmallows on top!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo grabs a bag of marshmallows.
JOJO: One cup. Two cups. Three cups!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo drops marshmallows in each of the mugs.
GRAN GRAN: Ooh, lovely.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia grab their mugs and sip their tea. Jojo’s flashlight lies on the ground. The light points at Panda and the back fence.
JOJO: Mmm. This is so delicious. But I wish we could still watch a Captain Chloe film.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo glances at Panda.
[Jojo gasping]
JOJO: Look at Panda's shadow on the wall.
[Gran Gran chuckling]
GRAN GRAN: Panda looks ever so big.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran looks at Panda’s shadow on the fence.
GRAN GRAN: Oh! You've given me an idea for a Gran Gran plan!
[Celebratory music plays]
GRAN GRAN: Well, we might not be able to watch "Captain Chloe Goes Under the Sea," but we can create our own story, with shadow puppets!
JOJO: Yes!
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In Gran Gran’s sitting room, Cynthia closes the curtains. Jojo sits on the couch with Panda and her flashlight aimed at the curtains.
JOJO: How do we make our shadow puppets, Gran Gran?
GRAN GRAN: I'll show you!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran rests a flashlight against a book at an angle on the coffee table.
GRAN GRAN: We can make all kinds of shapes using our hands.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran waves her hand in front of the flashlight, and her shadow appears on the curtains.
[JoJo giggling]
[Cynthia giggling]
CYNTHIA: Look, JoJo. See if you can guess the animal.
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a shadow puppet with her hands.
JOJO: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia spreads her fingers, then opens and closes her index and middle fingers.
[Jojo gasping]
JOJO: It's a crab!
CYNTHIA: Yay!
GRAN GRAN: This crab is on its way to meet Captain Chloe.
JOJO: Your turn, Gran Gran.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a shadow puppet with her hands.
JOJO: It's a turtle!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a treasure chest shadow puppet.
JOJO: Guarding the treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran and Cynthia smile and lower their hands.
JOJO: My turn now.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo puts Panda on the floor. She looks at her hands and frowns.
JOJO: Um... What do I do?
GRAN GRAN: Well, you need to put your hands out.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran holds out her hands with their palms facing down. Jojo copies Gran Gran’s moves.
JOJO: Hands out.
GRAN GRAN: Then cross your thumbs over.
JOJO: Cross my thumbs.
GRAN GRAN: Then we flap our fingers.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo and Gran Gran cross their thumbs and flap their fingers like wings.
[Jojo and Gran Gran laughing]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo climbs up a small stool and recreates the shadow puppet in the light of the flashlight.
JOJO: It's a bird!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a bird shadow puppet.
JOJO: And another!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia makes a bird shadow puppet.
JOJO: And another!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia flap their fingers and the wings of their bird shadow puppets flap.
[Jojo giggling]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo, Gran Gran, and Cynthia lower their hands.
JOJO: Can we make a Captain Chloe?
[Gran Gran chuckling]
GRAN GRAN: That might be a bit tricky with our hands. But I know another way we could do it!
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At the kitchen table, Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia draw on pieces of coloured paper in the light of their flashlights. Cynthia draws a pirate ship, then cuts the ship out of the paper and holds it up on a craft stick. Gran Gran cuts out a fish, then holds it up on another craft stick. Jojo cuts out a paper Captain Chloe. She holds the cutout up on a craft stick and smiles. On the sitting room coffee table, Jojo places Panda and t-rex Hugo on either side of the flashlight.
[Hugo squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: Jojo and Cynthia hold the pirate ship and Captain Chloe cutouts in front of the light. Gran Gran makes a shadow puppet bird.
JOJO: Captain Chloe is on an adventure to find treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo holds up her shadow puppet, so it looks like Captain Chloe is standing on the pirate ship. Under the ship, Gran Gran’s fish cutout moves about.
JOJO: She jumped into the sea and swam underwater with the fish!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo moves Captain Chloe under the ship. Cynthia makes a crab shadow puppet with her hands.
CYNTHIA: A helpful crab showed her the way.
[JoJo giggling]
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran makes a turtle shadow puppet with her hands. Cynthia makes a treasure chest shadow puppet with her hands.
[Gran Gran gasping]
GRAN GRAN: A turtle was guarding the treasure!
JOJO: But it was friendly and shared it with Captain Chloe.
DESCRIPTION: Jojo holds Captain Chloe between the pirate and treasure chest shadow puppets. Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia lower their hands.
JOJO, GRAN GRAN AND CYNTHIA: Yay!
JOJO: Captain Chloe found the treasure!
DESCRIPTION: Panda’s head tips forward.
[Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia laughing]
DESCRIPTION: The lights come on.
GRAN GRAN: Oh!
[Gran Gran chuckling]
[Jojo gasping]
JOJO: The electricity is back!
CYNTHIA: Aww, we were having so much fun.
GRAN GRAN: Would you like to watch your Captain Chloe film now, JoJo?
JOJO: Hmm. Me and Panda want to keep playing shadow puppets.
GRAN GRAN: Oh, let's do that, JoJo!
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran turns off the lights.
[Jojo, Gran Gran and Cynthia laughing, cheering]

DESCRIPTION: In a sitting room, the short-haired boy shines a flashlight onto a bare wall.
[Flashlight clicking]
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: It cast a shadow.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy holds the goat shadow puppet in front of the light, and the light casts the shadow of the goat onto the wall.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: My Mum is making the room nice and dark by closing the blind and switching off the lights. So we can make shadows with the torch.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy’s Mum, a woman with long, dark brown hair, closes a blind and turns off the sitting room light. In the dark, the short-haired boy rests the flashlight on a couch armrest, then turns it on. The short-haired boy and Tilly carry a homemade shadow puppet stage toward the couch.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: We're setting the stage, ready for the show. My Mum and little sister come to watch.

SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: Small Billy Goat Gruff went across the bridge.
DESCRIPTION: The small goat shadow puppet moves across the bridge. Under the bridge, a troll shadow puppet appears.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: A troll jumped out!
DESCRIPTION: Behind the stage, Tilly moves the troll shadow puppet. The short-haired boy holds the Small Gruff shadow puppet.
TILLY: I'm going to get you!
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: No, I'm too little! You should wait for a bigger goat.
TILLY: Okay.
DESCRIPTION: Tilly lowers the troll shadow puppet, and the short-haired boy crosses the bridge with the Small Gruff shadow puppet.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: So the troll waited for Big Gruff to cross the bridge.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy holds the Big Gruff shadow puppet over the bridge facing the troll shadow puppet.
[Tilly shouting]
TILLY: I'm going to get you, said the troll.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: No, I'm still too little! You should wait for an even bigger goat.
TILLY: Okay.
DESCRIPTION: Tilly lowers the troll shadow puppet.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: So the troll waited for the really big goat.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy’s mum and sister smile as they watch the show. The short-haired boy brings the Really Big Gruff goat shadow puppet into view on the stage, and Tilly holds up the troll shadow puppet.
[Tilly shouting]
TILLY: I'm going to get you!
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: Oh no, you're not!
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy moves the Really Big Gruff shadow puppet across the stage, and Tilly pulls the troll shadow puppet away.
[Tilly shouting]
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: And chased him away.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy holds the Small Gruff, Big Gruff and Really Big Gruff goat shadow puppets in place on the other side of the bridge.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY: And all the billy goats made it across the bridge.
SHORT-HAIRED BOY AND TILLY: The end!
[Mum and sister clapping]
SHORT-HAIRED BOY NARRATING: We loved putting on our shadow puppet show.
DESCRIPTION: The short-haired boy and Tilly bow in front of the stage.
[Mum and sister clapping]
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
[Whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: At Gran Gran’s house, with the lights on, Cynthia puts on her winter jacket and waves to Jojo and Gran Gran.
CYNTHIA: Bye!
JOJO: Bye!
GRAN GRAN: Bye!
DESCRIPTION: Cynthia leaves. Gran Gran closes the door behind her.
GRAN GRAN: Our evening didn't quite go as planned, but did you still have fun, JoJo?
JOJO: Yes, I did!
[Gran Gran chuckling]
JOJO: We had cocoa tea...
GRAN GRAN: And we made our own Captain Chloe shadow puppet.
JOJO: And it was really fun having Cynthia here. I love you, Gran Gran!
DESCRIPTION: Jojo runs and jumps into Gran Gran’s arms.
GRAN GRAN: Oh, I love you too, JoJo.
DESCRIPTION: Gran Gran hugs Jojo close, and Jojo nuzzles Gran Gran’s cheek.
