Descriptive Transcript

[Bushes rustling, guitar music plays]

DESCRIPTION: In an animation, at Forest Camp for Young Birds, Odo, a brown and white owl, pops up as other campers scatter and hide behind bushes and trees.

ODO: Ha-ha, here I come.

DOODLE SINGS: Odo.

THREE CHICKENS SING: Odo.

BIRDS AND A PEACOCK SING: Odo.

THREE YELLOW CANARIES SING: Odo.

[Mud splashes]

DESCRIPTION: Odo jumps into a muddy puddle.

TOUCANS SING: Odo.

FLAMINGOS SING: Odo.

EVERYONE SINGS: Odo.

[Chime]

DESCRIPTION: Odo winks.

[Episode Title] The Strawberry Sunset.

[Campers laugh, murmur, upbeat music plays]

DESCRIPTION: The three canaries arrive at camp and join the other campers in a semi-circle around Camp Leader, who hops onto a tree stump and spreads her wings wide.

CAMP LEADER: Good morning, campers!

[Reddie and Odo shout, chickens scream, clucking, soft thump, exciting music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Odo and Reddie run out of the forest, arriving behind Flo, Joe, and Shirley, who flee. Flo trips, and Joe runs over her. Flo stands and follows him. Nearby, Shirley hides behind pink flowers. She points at Reggie and Odo, and Joe and Flo stand up behind her.

SHIRLEY: Huh? Oh! Why, it's just Reggie.

[Mellow music plays]

ODO: Reggie wants to tell you about something amazing!

REGGIE: The other foxes and I wanted to invite you to join us for the Strawberry Sunset celebration!

[Birds chirp]

DOODLE: Hurray! Whee! Wait, what is the Strawberry Sunset celebration?

[Upbeat music plays]

REGGIE: Every year on this special day, the sunset turns the sky strawberry red. And we all gather on Foxes Hill to say thank you to the forest. The forest gives us everything we need: Food, shelter and friends like you.

[Campers chatter excitedly, tense music plays]

JOE: Uh, question. So, are you saying there will be other foxes?

REGGIE: Yup!

[Chickens yelp]

DESCRIPTION: The chickens hug each other.

ODO: I know you were scared by a fox once, but this is Reggie's family.

FLO: We like Reggie.

DESCRIPTION: The chickens let go of each other.

CAMP LEADER: Thank you for inviting us, Reggie, but today's an important day for us birds too. It's Conker Polishing Day!

CAMPERS: Oh.

CAMP LEADER: So, unfortunately, we won't have time to join you.

[Campers sigh sadly]

DESCRIPTION: Camp Leader hops off the stump and leaves. The campers’ shoulders slump, and they look down at the grass.

ODO: Remember the last time we had a conker-polishing lesson?

DESCRIPTION: In a flashback, Camp Leader polishes a conker, also known as a horse chestnut, with a cloth. Bored campers watch with half-closed eyes, and few campers nap.

CAMP LEADER: Some like to polish in vertical lines, but a circular motion is much more effective.

[Campers groan, wobbling]

DESCRIPTION: The chickens’ eyes spin as they watch the cloth move in circles.

CAMP LEADER: Going around and around and around and around and around...

[Chickens cluck]

DESCRIPTION: The flashback ends. In the present, the chickens’ eyes spin, and they shake their heads.

RUDI: The Strawberry Sunset celebration sounds like much more fun than conker polishing.

ANNA: Tell us more about the celebration, Reggie.

[Upbeat music plays]

REGGIE: We go to the highest hilltop at sundown, and we start by thanking the forest. Like this…

[Campers exclaim]

DESCRIPTION: Reggie stands on his back legs, closes his eyes, and lifts his front paws.

REGGIE: And then we dance, like this...

[Campers exclaim, lively music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Reggie dances.

ODO: Wow!

[Mellow music plays]

REGGIE: Then we "gekker" like this…

DESCRIPTION: Reggie shuts his eyes.

REGGIE: Gekk-gekk-ge-ge-gekk!

[Campers gasp, exclaim, Doodle giggles]

DOODLE: Akk! Akk-akk...

[Reggie giggles]

REGGIE: That's good. Gekk-gekk-ge-ge-gekk!

DOODLE: Oh! I wish we could come.

REGGIE: I wish you could, too. Maybe next year.

[Whoosh, Reggie chuckles, leaves rustle, campers chuckle]

DESCRIPTION: Reggie leaps through bushes. He waves, then runs into the forest. The campers wave.

CAMPERS: Bye, Reggie!

REGGIE: Bye!

[Campers chuckle, feathers whoosh, bird sings, mellow music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Feathers wave. In a clearing, Camp Leader stands beside a large bowl of conkers, holding a cloth and a conker.

CAMP LEADER: Right, campers! Let's get started, ha-ha! Hey...

[Campers groan, Doodle and Odo sigh]

DESCRIPTION: Camp Leader polishes the conker. The chickens’ heads wobble as they watch her polish the conker.

CAMP LEADER: We go around and around and around and around and around...

[Campers grumble, Odo sighs]

DESCRIPTION: The campers polish conkers.

ODO: There must be a way to make conker polishing more interesting. Maybe we should start by thanking the forest.

DOODLE: Great idea, Odo.

DESCRIPTION: Odo and Doodle put their conkers on the grass. They close their eyes and raise their wings. The other campers notice and do the same.

CAMP LEADER: And around and around. Lots of questions! Uh, yes, Odo?

DESCRIPTION: The campers drop their wings and open their eyes.

ODO: Oh. No. Sorry, Camp Leader. We don't have questions. We're thanking the forest, like Reggie and the foxes.

CAMP LEADER: Oh, I see! Well, that's actually very nice. It's important for us to respect nature. Now, back to polishing! Around and around...

[Chime]

DESCRIPTION: Camp Leader holds up her gleaming conker and goes back to polishing it.

JOE: I didn't know foxes were so good at dancing! Did you see Reggie's dance moves?

[Clucking, campers laugh]

DESCRIPTION: Joe dances, and the other chickens join him.

RUDI: I think you'll find he went like this:

[Rudi sings, campers laugh, upbeat music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Rudi and Anna leap gracefully, and the flamingos run to them. The other campers each drop their conker and cloth and form a ring around the swans and the flamingos.

ODO: Oh, yeah!

CAMP LEADER: Huh?

[Campers exclaim, clucking]

DESCRIPTION: The swans and flamingos face each other and dance.

CAMPERS CHANT: Go, go, go!

CAMP LEADER: What on earth is going on?!

[Soft music plays, hummingbird wings flutter, birds sing]

DESCRIPTION: Camp Leader runs to campers, and the dancing stops.

ODO: The foxes do a sunset dance. We were just trying to remember what Reggie showed us.

CAMP LEADER: Oh, I see! What else did Reggie say?

ODO: Well, they gekker, kind of like this. Tweet-tweet-tweet-twoo! No, that's not right.

CHICKENS: Like this!

[Chickens cluck, campers exclaim, honk, birds chirp]

CAMP LEADER: Yes, yes, thank you! I think I get the idea. We are birds. We can't gekker like foxes. But we can make sounds in our own way.

DOODLE: Do you mean like this?

[Doodle sings, gentle thumps]

DESCRIPTION: Camp Leader picks Doodle up.

CAMP LEADER: Oh, beautiful, Doodle! You know, the Strawberry Sunset really does sound like something very special. Well, just as special as conker polishing!

ODO: So, can we go? Reggie's family did invite us.

CAMPERS: Please!

CAMP LEADER: Well...

[Feathers whoosh, birds sing, serene music plays, footsteps rustle]

DESCRIPTION: Feathers wave. Later, as the golden sun sinks in the red and orange sky, Reggie and his family walk up a hill.

REGGIE: Gekk-gekk-ge-ge-gekk!

[Campers exclaim, cheer, laugh]

DESCRIPTION: At the top of the hill, the campers and Camp Leader wave. Reggie wags his tail and runs to them.

REGGIE: Odo! Campers! You're here!

ODO: We're here to join your Strawberry Sunset celebration...if that's okay.

RED FOX: Of course. You are welcome.

CAMP LEADER: We can't do it exactly like you, but maybe we can do it in our own way.

REGGIE: Do you think you can?

CAMPERS: We know we can!

[Everyone laughs, cheers, Odo gasps]


ODO: This is it! The Strawberry Sunset!

[Campers exclaim]

EVERYONE: Wow!

[Upbeat music plays, Joe clucks, Reggie laughs, everyone laughs, singing]

DESCRIPTION: In the reddish-pink sky, the sun sets behind trees. The foxes gather and swish their tails. They shut their eyes and raise their front paws. The campers and Camp Leader do the same. Reggie winks at Odo and Doodle, then joins hands with the other foxes. They dance in a circle, their faces turned towards the sky, and then twirl away from each other. Leonardo and the chickens dance together. Reggie holds out his paw, and Joe takes it. They dance to the side, with a swan holding Joe’s other wing. In the sky, the canaries fly, smiling. Mice, insects, and squirrels run to the hilltop, and Boo the bat awakens and flies out of their tree.

CAMP LEADER: This really is a wonderful way to celebrate and say thank you.

[Campers laugh, singing]

DESCRIPTION: Everyone dances around Reggie and Camp Leader. At the edge of the forest, the squirrels, insects, mice, and Boo watch the celebration.

REGGIE: Don't thank me, thank the forest. Because we all live in the forest together.

EVERYONE: Gekk-gekk-ge-ge-gekk!

[Upbeat music plays]
