DESCRIPTION: In animation, five block friends run through a field in NumberLand. One is one red building block with one eye. Two is two orange blocks with glasses. Three is three yellow blocks wearing a crown. Four is a square of four green blocks. Five is five blue blocks with a star over their left eye, wearing a big blue glove.
SINGER: One, two, three, four, five, NumberBlocks. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
NumberBlocks.
DESCRIPTION: Six is a rectangle of purple building blocks with light purple dots. Seven is seven different coloured blocks that make a rainbow. Eight is a rectangle of eight pink blocks with tentacles. Nine is a 3 by 3 square with grey blocks. Ten is ten white blocks outlined in red wearing red star sunglasses.
SINGER: One and another one is two, and another one is…
DESCRIPTION: Two One NumberBlocks make a Two NumberBlock. A third joins and makes a Three NumberBlock.
THREE: Me!
SINGER: …that's three!
DESCRIPTION: NumberBlocks One, Two, Three, Four and Five fly in space. They land on Earth and run through NumberLand.
SINGER: Five, four, three, two, one, time for some number fun. You can count on us, we're the NumberBlocks!
[Title] NumberBlocks.
[Intense music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In space, as a rocket, a NumberBlock Ten flies past planets numbered one through ten to a grey planet full of craters. On the planet, another NumberBlock Ten stands behind a booth counter as a vendor. Two green aliens wander up to the booth.
VENDOR TEN: Welcome to Ten's rocket rides. Our next rocket is ready. So, where would you like to fly today?
ALIENS: Planet Two! Planet Two!
DESCRIPTION: A sign displays the different-coloured planets. Under the number two, a picture shows a purple and orange planet.
VENDOR TEN: A trip to Planet Two costs two pennies each. Let me work out your total. Rex?
DESCRIPTION: Rex, a rekenreks, hops onto the counter.
REX: Woo-hoo! Rex is here, so shout "hooray!" With just one push, you're on your way!
VENDOR TEN: Two and two more...
REX: Uh-huh?
VENDOR TEN: ...is four.
REX: Uh-huh!
DESCRIPTION: Ten moves four of Rex’s five red beads.
VENDOR TEN: Four pennies, please.
DESCRIPTION: One alien floats a two-penny coin onto the counter. The other alien floats two one-penny coins onto the counter.
VENDOR TEN: Ooh! A two-penny coin. Two and two ones. That's four pennies altogether. Enjoy your flight!
DESCRIPTION: The aliens scurry over to the Rocket Ten.
ROCKET TEN: Hop aboard!
DESCRIPTION: Rocket Ten lies down on a ramp, and the aliens hop on.
ALIENS: Hey-hey!
ROCKET TEN: Blast off!
DESCRIPTION: Rocket Ten blasts into space with the aliens to Planet Two.
ALIENS: Hey-hey-hey!
DESCRIPTION: On the grey planet full of craters, NumberBlock One lands a rocket chair next to the booth.
ONE: Hello, Ten. I came to see how your new rocket-flying service is going.
VENDOR TEN: It's really taking off.
[Vendor Ten chuckling]
DESCRIPTION: Two yellow robots wander up to the booth.
FIRST ROBOT: We'd like to fly to Planet Four, please.
DESCRIPTION: Under the number four, the sign displays a green, square planet.
VENDOR TEN: That's four pennies each. Rex?
REX: Uh-huh?
VENDOR TEN: Four and four.
REX: Uh-huh.
DESCRIPTION: Vendor Ten moves four of Rex’s red beads, then four more, equalling five red beads and three white beads.
VENDOR TEN: That's eight pennies in total, please.
ONE: Oh, wow. That was fast!
REX: Rex lets you see the answer straight away.
VENDOR TEN: If I push four beads over and another four, I can see straight away that there are five red beads and three white ones, and five and three is eight!
REX: Uh-huh.
SECOND ROBOT: Here is a ten-penny coin.
REX: I have ten beads in total.
VENDOR TEN: And with eight on that side, I can easily see it takes two more to make 10. So, I owe you two pennies change.
DESCRIPTION: Vendor Ten gives the yellow robots two pennies, and they roll toward Rocket Ten.
ROBOTS: Beep-beep-beep.
ROCKET TEN: Blast off!
[Rocket whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: A blue alien and a yellow alien inch up to the counter.
BLUE ALIEN: I'd like to go to Planet Six, please.
YELLOW ALIEN: And I'm going to Planet Three.
VENDOR TEN: That's six pennies and three pennies. One, see if Rex can help you work it out.
ONE: Okay! Let's start with six. One, two...
DESCRIPTION: On the counter with Rex, One pushes two of Rex’s beads. Rex jumps and resets the beads.
REX: Woo! Counting is slow.
VENDOR TEN: See if you can push six across at once. It's much faster.
ONE: Well, there are five red beads, and six is one more than five.
DESCRIPTION: One moves the five red beads and one white bead all at once.
ONE: That's six beads. And I know what three beads looks like.
DESCRIPTION: One moves three more white beads.
ONE: That leaves just one on the right. So, there must be nine on the left.
REX: Ooh!
ONE: Nine pennies, please.
DESCRIPTION: The blue alien floats a five-penny coin onto the counter, and the yellow alien floats two two-penny coins onto the counter.
VENDOR TEN: That's five, and two twos are four. And five and four...
REX: ...is nine!
VENDOR TEN: Thanks!
DESCRIPTION: Vendor Ten collects the coins. The blue alien and the yellow alien leave.
[Aliens giggling]
ROCKET TEN: Blast off!
[Rocket whooshing]
[Thudding]
ALIENS: Boing-boing-boing.
DESCRIPTION: The ground shakes. Rex and One bounce on the counter.
ONE: Wow!
DESCRIPTION: Two giant, white, ball-shaped aliens bounce up to the booth.
VENDOR TEN: Those are deca-blobs from Planet Ten! Where can we take you today?
DECA-BLOBS: Planet Seven. Planet Seven.
VENDOR TEN: A trip to Planet Seven will cost you seven pennies each. We're going to need a bigger Rex. My Rex may only go up to ten...
[Rocket whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Rocket Ten lands near the booth.
ROCKET TEN: ...but so does mine! Let's double up.
DESCRIPTION: Rocket Ten pulls out a second Rex rekenreks.
ROCKET TEN: Ten and ten...
DESCRIPTION: Vendor Ten and Rocket Ten come together and become NumberBlock Twenty.
TWENTY: ...is twenty.
BOTH REXES: Huh!
DESCRIPTION: Both Rexes come together and become one with two rows of beads.
[Rexes giggling]
ONE: Oh! Rex doubled up as well. It's Rex and Rex!
REX AND REX: Rex and Rex is hard to say. Call me Rek and Rek. Hooray!
TWENTY: My Rek and Rek has even more ways to show numbers. Look.
DESCRIPTION: Twenty places Rek and Rek on the counter.
TWENTY: Seven on the top row and seven on the bottom.
DESCRIPTION: Twenty moves Rek and Rek’s beads.
[Rek and Rek gasping]
REK AND REK: Ah-ha!
TWENTY: The reds are on this side, all ten of them, plus four more white beads. And ten and four is fourteen!
REK AND REK: Ah!
ONE: So, it will cost the two of you fourteen pennies, please.
DESCRIPTION: A small red deca-blob pops out between the larger deca-blobs.
RED DECA-BLOB: And Planet Three for me.
[Twenty chuckling]
TWENTY: Oh! I didn't see you there. You'll need to add three more pennies.
DESCRIPTION: One moves beads on Rek and Rek.
ONE: There are three more beads on the top row. That's all ten on the top row, and five and two, seven on the bottom, which is seventeen pennies in total.
REK AND REK: Uh-huh!
DECA-BLOBS: Boing-boing-boing-boing.
DESCRIPTION: The deca-blobs bounce past the booth. They leave a coin with the number seventeen on the counter.
ONE: What a funny-looking coin.
DESCRIPTION: Twenty breaks apart into two Ten NumberBlocks, Vendor Ten and Rocket Ten.
ROCKET TEN: This trip needs both of us.
VENDOR TEN: One, would you mind the counter for a bit?
ONE: Yes, please!
DESCRIPTION: Vendor Ten follows Rocket Ten toward the launch ramp. One smiles at Rek and Rek.
[One giggling]
DESCRIPTION: Now both rockets, Vendor Ten and Rocket Ten soar through space with the deca-blobs toward Planet Seven, a rainbow planet.
